Mornië utúlië (1x1 w/ Jikkah)

Surely the man thought that Nana too was a Selkie, and he only wanted her pelt as well, surely this man wasn’t so terrible that he.... No, no it had to be he had mistaken Nana for a Selkie, surely, if he knew she was human as well, he’d leave her be.

He wouldn't risk it. It wasn't going to let anything happen to Nana. He hurried back quickly and moved to hide Nana under the floor, hoping it would be enough to keep her safe. He would have to get her to a healer at some point later.

It was pretty common for floorboards to be easily removable, with a small storage space beneath them for valuables, so it was really the only hiding spot he could put Nana in without taking her out of the house. She was out cold at that point, so even when he rushed her over to her hiding spot, she hardly stirred.

He pet her hair and kissed her head for maybe the hundredth time before moving and setting the floorboards back. He was so scared, he couldn't leave her there forever.

She would have to stay there for now, neither of them had much of a choice. He could move her when she was safe from him, but Motochika knew he would be watching the home closely, waiting for both himself and Nana; he would just have to keep her asleep with the poppy milk for now, and pour broth down her throat when he could.

If the man, Shusuke, wasn't in the house ordering Motochika around, he was taking the money Motochika earned from the stall. At least the times he wasn't hanging around Motochika could take care of Nana.

Nana would require constant cleaning and re-bandaging of her eyes, which only caused her more pain, and in turn, required her to drink more poppy milk. She didn’t seem to care- or notice rather -that she was being stuck under the floorboards, only ever murmuring about Motochika’s pelt.

"I found it, Nana..." He said gently; it was safe enough to have her out of the floor just for the night. He held her tight against him and pet her hair, "I found it...I just gotta figure out how to get it back..."

Nana was coherent enough to hold a conversation with Motochika, holding onto him loosely. “I’m glad... I’m so glad.. I wish I could do something to help..”

She held him tighter and shook her head slightly. “I’d do anything... Anything if it meant you got to be free..” She whispered softly, and he could tell she was getting drowsy again.

She gave a slow nod and rested head head to his chest, sitting with him in silence, her breathing becoming slower as she fell asleep once again.

Morning would come and his routine would continue; he cleaned her eyes out and fed her what little food they had left in the house that Shusuke hadn’t eaten, before giving her more milk of the poppy for the pain she suffered from him disinfecting her eyes.

He hid her under the floor again, hoping she would be asleep long enough that if Shusuke came back he wouldn't notice where she was.

Though Nana was hardly sober, she would still float in and out of consciousness. Motochika told her it was important to stay quiet no matter what, so even when she woke in a drowsy state, she did her very best not to move a muscle. What woke her this time was loud talking and footsteps above her, but she didn’t recognise the voice at all, but then she heard a second voice; Motochika.

"I'm hungry. Make me dinner."
"There's no food, you ate it all." Motochika sounded exasperated and angry. Shusuke made a noise and moved to sit down.
"Where's your woman?"
"I told you, I sent her away since you destroyed her eyes." Motochika growled. Shusuke scoffed.
"Shame. I wanted to use her."
"You disgusting human fucking filth."

Was this the man who had come in and taken Motochika’s pelt? She felt an anger burn in her chest, but she remained still, only lightly clenching her fist. If he hadn’t stolen her sight, she could’ve helped Motochika her his pelt back, and now, she would never get to see his wonderful smile again. She remained silent, swallowing her rage.

"There's nothing more for you here. Just leave. Return my pelt." Motochika demanded. Shusuke made a noise.
"Your home is nicer than mine." Shusuke said.

As Motochika spoke, something he hadn’t noticed before caught his attention, and it made his blood run cold. The wooden plank he had been moving everyday since he hid Nana under the floor, the only thing between this man and Nana; the edge of the rug was tucked into the board. He must’ve not noticed it in his haste to hide Nana earlier, but he had accidentally tucked the rug into the floor, exposing he had been lifting it.

He tried to keep his expression annoyed but the color drained from his face regardless. Shusuke noticed right away.
"What?" He asked, squinting at the Selkie. Motochika shook his head calmly.
"Nothing. Just annoyed that you won't leave my home."

He just couldn’t look at it, all he had to do was avoid looking at it or thinking about it until this man left, then he could fix it.

But he caught himself glancing at it every now and again, hoping Shusuke wouldn't catch him at any point doing it. But the human was getting suspicious, he noticed. Shusuke was going to catch on.

Thankfully Nana seemed to be asleep, not moving or making a single noise at all, now he just needed to get him out of the house.
