Katy smiled at the teacher and said "well from what it sounds like you know your brooms Mr.Donovan ". she then held out her hand to him and said "The name is Katy Katy swift nice to meet you ". she looked around the group of girls and made a mental note that Nicko and Donovan was the only guys in the group. She still held onto Nicko's hand when she held out the other one like she was afraid if she let him go he would go away. the truth was she kinda forgot she was holding his hand while her attation was else were.

Renee nodded, extending her hand to Katy. Renee liked her immediately, sensing that the girl was going to be a lot of fun... the good kind and possibly just enough of the bad to be interesting. She was going to have more intensive flying lessons, though she knew all the basics just needed help. She let Katy know that she didn't really have to worry about her male friend with her eyes, but she already was interested in her alone.

"It is very good to meet you, Katy. I hope you are having fun and getting to know as many people as you can, as this is really getting very interesting a night indeed."

She then returned to answer what Professor Donovan had said, making a point of allowing Katy to know what they were talking about if she or the guy that was with her may want to know as well.

"Prof. Donovan was helping Ashley and I with some information on broom selections and the like, and he is encouraging any and all students to benefit from his knowledge even before taking his class. I think that is a good idea, as I really could use the thoroughness."

Renee was very glad, not gushing too much, but wanting Donovan to know she was very much going to allow him to help her with her broom skills.

Ashley smiled and nodded to Katy, a bit jealous herself but not showing it. It wasn't really the hand holding, rather it was the way that one of the people in the group they were in had attention elsewhere. She didn't understand it, but she went with hiding it. She had to deal with the sudden reality she was the only one that seemed to not be with someone. She smiled though, and nodded at Renee's words.

"Actually she is right, Katy. Professor Donovan has been helpful already, and hopefully we will all be able to get better with our flying skills if he is as good a teacher as we think he is already."

She was being a little playful, wanting to generate for the Professor interest from other students. While waiting for him to comment, Ashley then decided to ask the question herself regarding the trip.

"Katy, several of us are planning a 'girls' weekend' into town, and you were one of those outside of the group we have pooled together so far that I thought we should ask."

She continued to smile, her eyes letting Katy know she really was being invited.

Sam kissed her again, this time making a slower, more thorough job of it. He was very pleased with the taste of her drink on her mouth, rather enjoying the reality that he was going to get to be with her. He broke the kiss just as slowly, wanting their mouths to linger on each other for a while. He then moved his head back from her caressing her cheek with his hand as he spoke to her again.

"I will do my best, not just to win. I want to have you to be proud of me as well, as even win or lose, you should be as proud of me as I always am proud of you. I love you very much, and always have... even when you and I would trade quips back at Primary."

He grinned, knowing that she had always loved him just as much as he did her.

"I know where it will take you, Lori. I have seen you in class... in Dueling Club. You have skills and talent. Matter of fact, you could give Sam a run for his money.. and he is that damn good. I don't tell him often to keep him humble..."

James smiled at Lorelai, sipping his drink as he did. She was a lot better than she really though herself to be, but then she had to be to go from Primary to Uni. There was not promises that anyone would get in, nor that they would graduate. But he knew students who would make it, and never sugar coated anything for anyone. He said she had ability because she did, just like many of the students he had helped bring to the Uni for that year. He had never did Uni recruitment till then, as he wanted to be there first to help with their educations. He then whispered to her, letting her know something else.

"Also.. the better you do.. the better the chance we will have easier ways to spend time like we did earlier."

Alice felt her tummy flutter and her heart race as Sam kissed her. There was so much fire and emotion behind it that she literally felt it throughout her entire body. She'd known Sam for quite a while and loved him very deeply. She loved him as a brother, friend, lover... Even though the romantic love was fresh and new, it seemed older somehow. But it probably had to do with how well she knew him and for how long she'd actually loved him.

"You'll always make me proud, Sam," Alice said. "I don't think you'll ever disappoint me. You haven't yet." She grinned at him and gave him a nuzzle. "So go and do your best. Win or lose. Whatever the outcome, I'll still be here and my feelings for you only stronger."

Cameron couldn't help but blush a bit at Ashley's words, he was a very humble man but knew he was good at what he did and was happy that he was getting along so well with the students already. "Well thank you Ashley I appreciate the kind words and let me tell you I am looking forward to teaching you I think we're going to have a lot of fun" ,he stated with a smile. He then turned to Katy and Nicko, "Are either of you interested in flying or quidditch at all"? He asked curiously trying to add them into the conversation. "Riku how about you? Is there any particular things you'd like to know"? Cameron made sure he paid attention to everyone in the group so that none of them felt like they couldn't speak up if they wanted too.

She honestly wasn't one for sports of any kind but she was interested in flying for travel means and learning the origin of the broomstick so she did look forward to his class but it was for a different reason then most.

"Well there are four balls in total in a quidditch game the quaffle, two bludgers, and the golden snitch, the bludgers are two round rock solid things that fly around and go after the players a beater carries a bat when they fly, their job is to prevent the bludgers from hitting the other players on their team and some beaters like to send bludgers toward opposing team members I was never one to do such dangerous things but there are some viscous quidditch players out there" ,Nicko said in response to Katy's question. "So what is a cheerleader"? He asked curiously, Nicko knew of mascots during quidditch games but he had never heard the term cheerleader before and was curious. It felt good to open up to people and he was beginning to feel more comfortable around this particular group.

When Nicko mentioned viscous quidditch players Cameron looked at him, "You're very right about that Nickolai I've encountered a few vicious quidditch players in my day in fact I was injured by one severely during a game, he sent a bludger straight at my head knocked me from my broom, I was in the hospital wing for nearly two weeks" ,he told the students. Cameron wanted anyone interested in quidditch to be prepared for any and all types of players for some weren't very nice nor did they play fairly. "But if anyone interested in the actual sport of quidditch follows what I teach them then you will lessen the risk of being hit by one of those nasty things, I learned from my experiences that their are ways to avoid injury even if someone is trying to hurt you".

Lorelai felt her cheeks get a bit warm and she knew she was blushing slightly. Turning her gaze toward the floor she smiled a little and giggled softly. "Well, perhaps that will motivate me to try my hardest, Professor Magnus." She paused a bit, still smiling. "I just hope that if I don't win I still make someone proud. And that if I still don't win, someone will help me further with my studies." Her cheeks reddened a bit more as she spoke, but her smile grew. Finally, she looked up at James, her eyes hopeful, seeking his approval and reassurance. She loved him and didn't want to disappoint nor fail him. But even still, for him... she'd try.

Wincing as Prof. Donovan told them about how he ended up on the hospital, Renee nodded her head at both what he and Nicko said about Quidditch getting more than just competitive. She had witnessed a few things first hand, at some of the international games she had the fortune to see.

"It is similar, unfortunately, to how some players, and even fans, in the Muggle game of football, or soccer as you Americans call it, get. I saw one Quidditch game in Australia that got so intense, four players got penalize, two of them hurt, and several dozen fans were ejected from the game. But we are all very glad you are alright, Professor, as I agree with Ashley as your presence is going to make things very interesting this year.. especially for Quidditch."

Renee smiled, as she also knew that some of the crowd at that game had gotten ejected for reasons other than the game itself. She kept that to herself, however, as right now that didn't need to be talked about. She figured that Katy wanted to wait till the subject of Quidditch and brooms was over before she answered Ashley's question, but she smile at Ashley, letting her know that she should remain relaxed about it for the time being.

Ashley was hoping she was not being ignored by Katy, as she really did want to know if she wanted to go with them on the girls' trip to town. She sipped her drink and was curious if Katy did want to play, as she was thinking she may actually enjoy it. Sports were something she liked to watch, but she didn't play that much. She had been on the Quidditich team at her old school, but she didn't see it as a career. She just liked to play, something that she found didn't always sit with others. She brushed her hair back from her ear, shaking her head at the stories of poor sportsmanship.

"I always thought the main thrust of playing was supposed to be both fun and learning teamwork, myself."

She said that aloud, making certain everyone heard her. She did know that there was supposed to be a winning team and a losing team, but she didn't understand the idea of bringing violence into an already rough sport.

Sam moved his mouth to Alice's ear, whispering to her while things were getting set up for the first of the games. He also knew that in between the games for the Fifth through Seventh years, there would be others that the younger years could participate in. He glanced over where Renee and Ashley were standing, another Professor there that he could tell. Whispering to her, Sam teased and flirted with Alice just a bit.

"I have to say, one of the things you most certainly can do for me is to get ready for our first time totally alone together, as I intend for it to be very special. I am thinking a romantic meal.. a nice walk.. perhaps taking advantage of the Cove..."

He kissed her cheek, knowing that she would know what he didn't speak of. He wasn't going to talk that way here, as he was getting ready to participate as a few other Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Years started moving closer to the fountain.

"You are never a disappointment to me, as I am always proud of you. You are one of the smartest students I know, and I also know that if you put your heart into it, you can win. You do your best, and you will make all who really care about you very proud indeed."

James nodded, letting Lorelai know that he spoke what he himself really thought about her. He was a judge, but she knew that he would not just let her have points she didn't earn. He knew deep down she could do it, could win, and he knew that even if she only came close he would still be very proud of her. He waited for her to go along with the others, seeing Sam himself starting to move over to the fountain.

Alice felt she and Sam floating downwards to the ground so that the older students wishing to participate in the games could. As they did, he leaned in close and whispered, his words making her blush and her body stir. Never had it stirred like it did in that moment, aching suddenly in ways that were strange and new and... pleasant. Biting down on her lip she looked at him and nodded, her cheeks reddening even more as she watched him head toward the fountain. She wondered how and when that first time would be and what it would be like. Surely Sam had more experience than she did since she knew she had none... so many things suddenly swam through her head... nerves, fear and so many other things... She'd pined for him for so long. Had he? When did he know? Would she disappoint him? Her breaths began to quicken as she watched him get ready, her heart pounding hard. Swallowing, she gave him a smile and blew him a kiss and then mouthed the words, "Good luck. I love you."

Lorelai smiled at James. She was glad to know that he'd be proud of her no matter what and even more so that he truly believed in her. It meant a lot for him to think such things and it helped to boost her confidence a bit. Yes, win or lose, he'd still love her and be proud of her. And she had to admit it was most definitely worth trying given the reward if she managed to win.

Nodding, Lori smiled. "All right, I'll give it a go." She blushed as she finished up her lemonade and then went over to the fountain where the others were gathering who planned to compete in the games.

Lori saw Sam making his way over and grinned at him sheepishly, her cheeks a deep shade of scarlet. She then turned to look back at James, but only briefly. Giggling, her eyes suddenly focused on the floor and she felt everyone's eyes staring and she tried to pretend that everyone was gone, that only she and James were there. It was hard, but she was going to try. She really wanted to do well. She really wanted the extra time with James.

"I know you do, Alice.. I have for a very long time."

Smiling as he then turned, Sam soon was at the fountain. As if it was supposed to happen, he ended up standing beside Lorelai, a grand total of thirty from each of the Houses there. Fortunately, there was a symbolical order to them, and the older students wanting to participate were only a fraction of those that were there. Some just didn't want to compete, while others just preferred to watch and cheer. Sam then leaned to Lorelai, smiling as he was both encouraging and honest at the same time. He spoke quickly, knowing that only she could hear him.

"You can do it, Lori. Besides, if one of the judges thinks you can... you can. Magnus will be fair.. but he is pulling for you... in more ways than one. He will vote honestly, just remember how much he likes to be impressed...."

He was teasing her a bit, but he knew how good she was as well. He looked over those other than the two of them that are going to compete, and he smiled. It was going to be fun, as well as competitive, and he liked it that way.

James watched first as Lorelai walked up to the fountain, and then Samuel joined her. He was pleased with them both, but it was Lori that needed to be confident in herself. This was important, not just because he wanted the extra time and ability for her to have ways for them to be alone. He knew that she would be a fair hand as Head Female. He hated that term "Head Girl", as he had always heard a sexual note to it when spoken by some of the male students who should have been much more mature about it. He moved to the side where the other three judges where, knowing that Donovan would be there soon. It was going to be a very interesting set of games, with spaces in between for the younger students to compete in some if they wanted. He knew at least one who would, but he also knew that with only five in this one for the older year students, there would be some that would not pull punches.. especially in the last two.

Alice was excited and nervous for Sam all rolled into one. She knew he had an excellent chance of winning given that he'd won the year before, but even still... she couldn't help it. And then there were her nerves over the things they could do together given the privileges he'd have if he did win. Just then her cheeks went hot and a nervous giggle passed over her lips. Looking at all the student readying themselves to participate, she suddenly noticed Lori standing next to Sam.

"Oh my!" Alice gasped, smiling. She quickly glanced over at Professor Magnus, wondering if he was the reason she was competing. Looking back at her friend, her smile only grew bigger. She then looked at Sam, her own nerves melting away.

Yes, Alice was still a bit apprehensive, but she knew that was normal. Typical. This was Sam and she loved him. He'd make sure that she was ready and that things would be right. At that, she suddenly felt warm inside, her love and trust for him growing... her hope that he'd win stronger than ever.

Lorelai looked at Sam and nodded, her tummy fluttering with butterflies as her nerves tried to get the better of her. "I'll try my best, that's for sure," she said. "And I'll try to remember that."

Lori's cheeks went red as she thought about impressing James. Just how would he be picturing her as she stood up there competing? Oh, how could she do this? Was it too late to withdraw? Oh... she couldn't do that. Not now. She looked over at James. He seemed so pleased that she was going to try so she wasn't about to let him down. Not now. No. She'd see this through.

"I just need to calm down," Lori then added. "I've never been good in front of a crowd. I just have to keep focused. I'll manage. I know I will." Again, she looked at Sam and she gave him a smile. She didn't know how he kept so calm all the time. Then again, he was a Gryffindor. At that thought, she couldn't help but giggle softly to herself.

"Don't worry, Lori. You will do just fine. Just remember, like always, there will be times in between that there will be other magical games for the other students in the younger years. You will be able to prepare yourself, and I know you always do well when you have time."

Sam was complimenting Lorelai justly, as she didn't need a lot of time. When she had a bit, though, she would always come through spectacularly. Sam had always believed in her, just like he believed in Alice. Alice was the woman he loved in a romantic sense, but Lori was the "Sister" he always encouraged and looked out for. She needed this, needed to be in the competition. It was not just about winning, but about her knowing she could do it. Her magic was so much stronger than she thought, and he was there to also push her in using it fully. He had seen her do so before, but now she needed to allow herself to use it for herself some as well.

James nodded to the three other of the five judges that were there. He and they were waiting on Donovan, as they were smiling and very eager to get started. He turned and realized that the leader of the band had something else to say. He waited, watching her with the other three judges as they waited on what she was going to say.

"Remember all of you First through Fourth Years... in between the games for the Upperclassmen, you will also have games that all of you can participate in no matter what your year. Yes, even those of you who are newly sorted, you can compete in games for your selves and your house, which will garner special first term benefits for you and your fellows."

James smiled broadly, very intent on seeing many of the things happen that were going to that night. The mixer was going to go well into the night, with classes starting later in the day. He then looked back to both Sam and Lori, nodding to them as well as all in their house, then doing the same with all the other students. It was going to be a blast... and a lot of new standing would happen throughout the night.

Alice stood there by herself as she watched Sam and Lori ready themselves for the competition. As she watched, she wondered if she should dare try her hand at the other games about to go on. She hadn't ever participated in any of the games in previous years, but seeing Lori mustering up her courage to try had her wondering. And what's more, Lori was trying for the upperclassmen competition, which was a much bigger deal. She bit down on her lip just then, her hands fidgeting a bit as her mind reeled over what to do... should she dare?

At that, Alice set her jaw and walked over to where the younger students were gathering. If Lori could try, so could she. After all, both had promised that they'd try harder this year to be more open. And so far this year had been proving to be full of promise. So... why not go for it. Why not try.

((Game Time: Has just returned from the Hogsdale Inn unnoticed, is now attending the mixer))

Lorelai took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Yes, I'll try to remember that too. I'm just dealing with a bit of stage fright. You know how I can be." She smiled sheepishly and giggled. "I'll be all right though. I have you and J-Professor Magnus pulling for me. And Alice."

Lori looked over at the brunette standing across the room and noticed that she was walking over to where the younger students were gathering for the other games. Immediately she quirked a brow and gasped, her hands going to her mouth as she giggled loudly.

"Sam, look," Lori said as she then nudged him. "Alice is going to participate in the other games. Look." She was proud of her friend. The two of them had come such a long way together. And the year was truly proving to be one of many firsts for them both.

James was very pleased with all three of the friends participating, his smile very telling that he hoped that all three of them would come out on top. He talked politely with the other three professors, waiting, it seemed, for Donovan. One of the other professors had told him that Donovan was the other judge, and he knew that the slightly younger man would be a good one. It would make it a almost balanced set, with three male and two female judges. McAlistair had the right of tie-breaking vote, as judges who couldn't decide between two competitors would be counted as an abstaining vote if there was not a clear winner. The upside to that was that it was seen as a high mark when you impressed judges that well.

He watched Alice move over to the group of the younger students, noticing the look Sam was giving her. He was good, and that was something that made him wonder. There were others in his league among the older students, the senior Slytherin prefect Kurt among them. He knew Kurt as well, and he knew that, though a paragon of the good things his house was about, though he was less prone to the bad he was still a very clever opponent. He wondered how they would do in the Dueling competition, as both were very skilled in both offense and defense.

"I see, Lori.. and I am glad. The both of you are very... skilled, and I hate that at times you don't know your own abilities, but tonight, as well as this year, that is going to change."

He smiled at Alice, then at Professor Magnus. The man was going to take things to a new level, both in his classes and in his leadership of the Dueling Club. That was something that was going to be very interesting. Magnus had very hands-on experience dealing with the cells of Death Eaters that still existed in Europe, as well as some of their offshoots scattered all over the world. There was rumor mostly, but Sam suspected that the one that was much more truth was that Magnus had had to Duel to the death at least once. The polished and skilled wizard was someone Sam looked up to, but also he saw in Magnus a stroke of dark intensity in the eyes. It was a bit of memory, of past actions that he wished he had never had to do.

"This year... everyone, no matter what the standing, is going to have to take things up a notch. I feel it, Lori. And you know how accurate my feelings are."
