Pantsless Pirates [IC]

Orin continues to remain silent, though there's a flicker of something across his face.

He's unlikely to talk with merely threats.

You think he's not actually sure what they were planning should they have actually won that fight.

Zahn Cragscale
Zahn naturally disarmed and searched all of the pirates for any hidden daggers or small, concealable blades that they could use to undo their binds. Once he was satisfied with the belief that they had no swift way to get free, the lizardfolk looked around for gags to apply to them and other bits and pieces of furniture to put them in or pin them under.

While he worked, he shot Helena a friendly look: "Yes, we can train!" He seemed excited to finally get to spar with her as well!

"We can leave. They act in cahoots with sahuagin and we know they consort with evil entities, because of that ritual stuff they possess. We can report our findings to the one who sent us: all we need is to lie if anyone sees us without a 'guide' or escort."

His eyes looked to Helena and then Joy. "I believe you can do that easily."

"I apologize for my rash words. I only want to help and fight sahuagin, not this..."

"I, too, apologize for my harsh language," Joy told the others softly, bowing her head. "Terrible things are necessary in battle. I hate violence...the Lady has placed me on this world to bring pleasure, not pain."

She sniffed and sighed. "I know we didn't have a chance, but...I'm still sorry to anyone hurt by my words."

As the others got to work on the prisoners, she checked through their belongings until she found her shirt and donned it before Orin was roused.

"Want tae spar some time? Ifn we make it oot a this mess. Speakin' a. How are we doin' that? Ah dinnae want tae fight the 'ole ship. We'll need a good lie ta get oot a this with all our bits in place."

"Maybe we won't have to!" Joy said, her voice brighter. "They were going to betray the officers, right? We know Sin suspected their plots. Perhaps others, did, too! We could tell the others, or just threaten to!"

Joy flinches as Helena's foot connects with Orin, turning her head away with a grimace. She doesn't have the stomach for this sort of business. Not for the first time, she silently thanks the Lady for guiding her to friends that can handle these ugly necessities for her.

She looks at Zahn and smiles, nodding slightly, then sits cross-legged in front of Orin. Reaching out, she runs her fingers through his hair and gazes into his eyes.

"What were you going to do to the rest of the crew, Orin?" she asks softly.

Nanbako shrugged saying "Alright we'll just let the ship full of right bastards go out and about their day. And not cause a massive malfunction making most of the ship scramble to fix it and not focus on us for awhile." she said shaking her head. Looking down to Orin and squatted down at his side looking over. "Suggest you start answering questions. Im far less kind than them, but im kind enough to put you back together no matter how much we take off." she said with a toothy grin.

"Orin." Joy cups his jaw in her hands, gently. "We're going to find out. One of the others will tell us, or we'll talk to the rest of the crew and put the pieces together. People have noticed you."

She swings a leg over Orin and straddles him. Her hips shift slowly back and forth over his lap.

"We'll learn, Orin, but you can decide how we learn." Her hands slide down, long the sides of his neck and over his chest. "This is the time to negotiate, Orin."

Charisma (Persuasion) check: 27. Of course, Persuasion is not mind control.

"Give up, the dopey bastard willnae tell us a thing." Helena said. She didn't shout, but certainly spoke louder than was necessary.

"Play along. I 'ave a plan. Somethin' scarier'n any'hin' we can cook up."

Helena walked over to the barrel Henry was in, and sat herself down on it, before waving over everyone else for a huddle.
"Right, knock'im back oot an wake some other cunt up. Maybe that bastard 'enry. We ask 'im questions, but make oot like we a'ready ken the answers. We make it oot like some'n a'ready snitched. Then once 'e's tryin' ta figure oot who told, we 'let slip' 'twas Orin. 'specially if'n we 'eal 'im, so it does nae looked like we 'ad to torture 'im. If 'enry thinks 'es a traitor.. ah cannae even think what 'ed do. Betrayin' under torture's one ting. But talkin' withoot it...." At that Helena paused her monologue, every word of which she'd made sure Orin could hear, but in a way that made it look like he wasn't supposed to. She gave a dramatic shudder, as though imagining all the harm Henry might inflict on a traitor who switched sides so easily.

"Might e'en sacrifice 'im like t'other poor bastards. Found a skull when ah went peekin' 'round.. doubt there'll be enough'f 'im e'en fer that." She added, just for good measure.

Like i said in ooc chat, basically trying to fuck with his head. He knows Henry, and probably thinks whatever he'll do is a lot worse than we could do... hell he might be right which is a scarier thought.

Performance for making the conversation sound like he wasn't meant to hear it. (Hey maybe it'll grant a bonus on intimidation if the dm is feeling nice 👉 👈
17+8 = 25

Indimidation:
6 + 8 = 14... aaand gonna reroll with my inspiration 🥺
Well, better this time:
11+8

Glad i got a social-ish character now ngl. Also so sorry for how long this took me.

Keep your Inspiration-that plan's enough for Advantage.

Orin's eye goes wide. "Look-the people here are soft! Lily-livered civilians, and wallflowers, and the like. Not proper fighters. The Damnation isn't some charity house, it should be a war machine," he says quickly. "With a little work, whoever's in charge could rule whatever they wanted-but the cowards in charge aren't doing a damn thing. So, get rid of some of the people who're too weak to do a damn thing, get some partners who can help attack whatever needs fighting, and get rich doing it."

Helena looked over and gave a wide, mad grin.
"Oh aye? Cowards like the sort 'ho spill there guts af'er a kick?" She asked, taunting him. If words could kill, Orin would have died three times over from the utter contempt radiating from the lanky redhead.

"Acourse the 'proper fighters' 'ho could nae e'en take us down while we were oot numbered, on yer 'ome turf, an ye 'ad the element o' surprise. Aye the likes ae ye'd make a mighty pirate king indeed. Sovereign o' a sandbar mere like, an that's bein' generous." She piled on, adding insult to injury. "Mah sister ken fight be'er than all o' ye put toge'er, an' she's a bloody cleric!" Helena seemed to take personal offence at how innefectual and just... bad at piracy they were.

"But, ne'er mind all that. Since yer feelin' mere chatty, care ta tell'us 'ow many of ye bastards're in on it? Or be it only ye in this room? Ma'er ae fact, does yer cap'n ken about the sacrifices 'n communin' with the sauhagin?"

Ok first I wanna say, I don't mean offence to you with the 'innefectual' thing above. This campaign's been genuinely great so far, no complaints ngl. Wanted to be clear because I realise that can come off passive aggressive and it's not my intent.

Now then. Not *actually* sure what to roll to get him to keep talking.

Thinking either intimidation or persuasion.
But i rolled a d20 and got a 1, then used my inspo and got a 5 :(

So for intimidation that'd be a 5+8 for 13, oor for persuasion it'd be 5+11 for 16.

He rattles off a list of names, totaling about two dozen people all told. "That's not all-but that's all the people I know who were in on this, I swear. I don't know how the rituals work-I just help find people."

Zahn Cragscale
Zahn listened to the proceeding interrogation of the captured pirate, while he himself kept busy by gaggin the rest of the unconscious enemies. Once they all were gagged more or less effectively, the lizardkin stood back up and crossed his arms in a contemplative stance.

"Why the rituals? What do they do?"

While she'd stayed quiet as Helena spoke, something in Joy's eyes changes as the subject of rituals comes up. Her gaze is much sharper as she looks down at Orin, though she continues to straddle him.

"If you don't know how the rituals work," she says, her tone uncharacteristically neutral, "does that mean you don't know their effects? Or you don't know how they're performed?"

After a moment's thought, she shakes her head slightly. "It doesn't matter. Who can tell us more about the rituals, Orin?"

"Right.. any'ne go' thumbscrews? Red 'ot pokers.. needles ta put unner 'is fingernails or o'er places? Because ah dinnae 'hink 'es gonna be mer talkative.." Helena asked, though her tone made it clear that the question wasn't serious.

Seeing as how the discussion returned to Henry after a bit, Zahn offered, in his usual, gravelly and deep voice: "Do we wake Henry up?"

The barbaric warrior asked the group, brown eyes looking over to the barrel that Henry had been stuffed in and that was placed on its side, in the corner of the room so it would not move.

He was ready to help the group ask more questions, if they were not satisfied yet.

"By Her name, yes." Joy stands, looking at Zahn. "We need to know what they're doing, who they're talking to."

She puts her hands on her hips and looks down at Orin. "I can't think of anything else we need from him." She glances at Helena. "Or screws, pokers, or needles."

Zahn Cragscale
Since Joy answered his query, Zahn went ahead and righted the barrel rightside-up and pulled Henry out of the thing by his bound legs. The man dangled from the barbarian's effortless grip for a moment, before the lizardkin turned him up rightly as well and gave him a couple of slaps to wake him up.

Nothing forceful: the warrior knew how to control his strength and did not intend to hurt Henry just yet. He only wanted to wake him up, so Joy could sate her curiosity with him.

Zahn ungagged and then held Henry by the wrists, though the hand he used to slap him with went and rested against Henry's throat, to throttle him and squeeze his windpipe shut if he got any unwise ideas, such as shouting for help.

Henry's eyes flutter open, and a small "Urgh..." escapes his lips. When he realizes the situation he's in, they go wide, and he inhales deeply.

Zahn gives just a little pressure to his windpipe, making clear that doing what he was planning on is a bad idea.

With your prisoner aware that he's not in control, he glares at Zahn.

The Tabaxi listened kinda of zoned out before the information hit her about the rituals and that only a small part of the crew were "bad guys" as simply as she could call them. That ruined her idea of sinking the ship, would have been a great show but she shrugged and moved over towards Zahn as he began to wake up Henry. "Sounds like we got a whole list of names of people to take out only question is the how and why. You're going to answer that." She said pointing a clawed finger towards Henry with a grin.

"Not only that." Joy crouches by Henry. She stares down at him - not explicitly aggressive, but serious and determined. Her earlier, flirty behaviour is completely gone. "Tell us about the rituals, Henry."

Charisma (Intimidation): 11

Henry takes some prodding, but explains what he did for the rituals. It doesn't sound like he knows how it works-he's cunning, not smart. But he does them all the same.

One of you heads off to find Captain Sasha, while the other three stand guard. The one who left finds Sasha talking with an officer of the Damnation. You quickly relay the information, with the officer looking a little incredulous. "Surely you can't be serious?" he asks.

"I trust my crew with my life-their word is as good as mine. That being said, do you have any proof to offer to them?" Sasha says.

You lead the officer to the room with the captives, who spill the beans. The officer asks you to continue guarding till some of the Damnation's crew can get here, and some time later, you're finally back on the upper decks. There, you find Sasha talking with Orns. The orcish woman is speaking when you arrive. "I wish I could say I can't believe it-but it's all too believable."

After the incident with Henry and his little faction was done and dusted, Zahn followed Joy, Helena and Nanbako to the upper decks, where they would meet with Sasha and Orns.

The lizardfolk nodded absent-mindedly when Orns voiced her disbelief with regards to the treacherous dealings going on within the bowels of her own vessel.

"I find their preying on weaker folk appalling."

Blunt and to the point, the brown eyes remain on Orns for a bit, moving to Sasha and after a bit more time, moving to Nanbako: Zahn was looking forward to sparring with her.

If his eagerness was any indication, it seemed that he had been itching for a friendly bout with her ever since she joined the crew and he saw what she was capable of, but never had the chance to flex his own stuff.

"And for what?" Joy mutters, half to herself. "Power for its own sake? To make the Damnation crueler? To erase its mercy and kindness?"

She shakes her head regretfully. "Why would they seek such a thing?"

"Some people are cruel. Some people don't care about others," Orns says. "But at least this was found out before too many people were harmed."

Sasha nods. "We're happy to lend assistance where and when we can. Although, of course, I don't suppose there's any rewards we can be given for our services..."

The orcish woman laughs. "Of course, there's the catch! Not much I can offer myself, unfortunately."
