A guard with a twist (cat/Divine)

She shrugged a she often did when she didn't know what to say or how to respond. She frowned slightly when she noticed he took a piece but moved another piece. "I really don't know...but it's over now.." she trailed off before tucking some hair behind her ear. "I hope."

"Yes. Lets just be glad it's over." He said, moving another piece. He would glance up at the prinvess every now and again, to see how she was doing, and he was relieved to see she seemed to be doing just fine. Maybe a little shook up, but much better now.

After awhile the game came to an end and a maid came up to tell them Dinner was to served. She stood brushing ringlets from her face and shoulder before glancing at Alex. She smiled before waltzing out of the room and off down the stairs. She seemed to be in a better mood, the day's ride helped as did the checkers.

((Wanna do a time skip? like a few weeks from now and they're traveling or something so we can work in your idea.))

((Yes.))

The prince slowly moved his pieces across the board, and was kinged a few times.. But he let the princess win in the end, he figured she could do with a smile. So when the maid came, he admitted defeat and they walked off to dinner together.

((KK time jump))

It had been weeks since the princess had taken on a new bodyguard, Alex and now things again were changing. Her father had thought it best if she went to the Winter castle while the threat of war was still in the air. She and Alex were to travel to the castle before dawn and now in the carriage it was cold and bumpy. She sat under a heavy quilted blanket as she rest her head against the wall of the carriage, she peered out the window with heavy orbs. The ride would be long and annoying but at least she had Alex to keep her company.

It had been several weeks since the two met, and in that time, they had become close. They shared secrets and he had been teaching her some basic swordplay. She didn't tease him as much now, and they had made a good peace. He gently put a hand on her shoulder while they were riding through the forest. The prince looked out the window and thought he saw some kind of movement in the trees. "Princess... I think there's something out in the trees..." He said softly, touching the hilt of his sword.

She felt his hand on her shoulder and gently turn to her gaze to him before returning it to the window. "wha.. what do you see Alex." she asked as she tried to see what he saw, she was hoping for a deer or something but couldn't see anything through the heavy branches of the shrubs and trees. "Alex... I don't see anything." She whined as she pressed her gaze through the window.

Alex stared out into the woods and he suddenly grabbed the princess's head and pushed her down, and ducked himself. The arrow sailed through the glass window moments later, shattering the pretty glass into shards. He had pushed the princess beneath himself for just such an occasion, and he gently nudged her to the floor of the carriage. He glanced slowly out of the window as the vehicle rolled to a stop. The right side of the vehicle had been pelted, and Alex guessed that the driver had been hit or had released the reins and threw himself to the floor. The prince drew his sword slowly, only the top of his head showing out of the window. Four men rushed the carriage, each wearing chainmail and a mask. No crests or symbols shone on their armor. They were assassins, sent to kill the princess without anyone knowing any better. "Harlequin. Stay here. Stay down. Until I tell you it is safe, do not move." He said. The men ran up and one of them flung the door open. Alex thrust forward, the tip of his thin rapier slipping through the man's armor and into his throat. He fell back clutching at the wound. The prince leapt from the carriage and knocked another one of them down. He rolled to his feet and the fight began against the two remaining fighters. The prince used his speed and agility to dodge most of the attacks. He blocked one of their swings and dodged the other's. He was incredibly graceful. He seemed to be fighting defensively, perhaps waiting for something. Finally, one of his enemies made the thrusting stab he had been waiting for. He grabbed the man's armored hand after dodging the strike, and pulled him hard, right onto the deadly sharp point of the rapier. He was stabbed, and injured, but the real injury came a second later when the other assassin swung down at the prince, and the clever noble used the first assailant's body as a shield. This certainly killed the man, and he was tossed aside. He began to go toe to toe with the final man. Their blades bounced and clanged off each other to no avail, but in a remarkable surprise attack, the assassin pulled a second dagger and sliced right up the middle. The prince barely avoided a lethal strike by jumping back, but his shirt and more importantly his collar was severed. He also now sported an ugly cut on his stomach. But the move sent this final man off balance, and with one well placed stab, even he fell. The collar was held together by a few strings, almost any kind of touch would ruin it, and the prince's secret would be revealed.

Her hands quickly went to cover her head as she heard the shattering glass and the weight of Alex shielding her. She gave a soft nod if not nervous nod as she kept her gaze down, her arms shielding her from the broken glass. The outside noise of the men fighting startled her and made her cringe as she wasn't sure who was winning or if Alex was okay. She Did her best to stay down and quiet. She waited with baited breath as she listened to the fight go on.

Soon the fighting stop as did the sounds. She stayed still as she waited in the silence, her heart racing.

The prince walked from corpse to corpse, making sure that each one of them was down. He got to the one he had simply knocked down and he executed the unconcious man. He groaned softly and clutched the cut on his stomach and chest. It wasn't terribly deep, but it hurt. The prince thought about it, and really had gotten lucky, The man had come within centimeters of his unprotected neck. He looked up at the wrecked carriage. "It's safe now, Princess." He said, his voice sounding like a cracked. But he was far too old to have his voice still cracking... He reached to his collar and gasped when he found the cut in it. His hands went to his chest... But apparently the choker was still working. At least mostly.

She slowly rose, peeking out through the broken window before she pushed the door open and exited the carriage. Her eyes widen as she saw the bloody corpse, her hand quickly moving to cover her mouth as she looked away. Slowly she stepped around the bodies as she made her way over to Alex. Once she was away from the bodies she threw her arms around him and buried her head against his shoulder and the crook of his neck. "A.. Are you alright?" she asked before she pulled back slowly, her orbs widen as she saw the wounds on his chest. She bit her lip as her orbs began to fill with tears. "We have to get you help..." she began before looked around for something to clean the wounds with.

Alex hugged her back, getting blood smeared on her dress, and he bit his lip. That wasn't a good sign. It meant that the bleeding was worse than he had originally thought. He touched the wound and gasped a bit, and touched his collar. "Are there any extra blankets in the carriage?" He asked, his voice cracking agian. He grabbed the collar and held he two broken sides closer together, and it stopped the cracking for a bit. But he would need to have it mended, or risk his secret being discovered. He just hoped she wouldn't notice it.

She chewed her lip as she gazed at his wounds before she tilted her head to the side. His voice seemed different though she didn't bother to question it but rather nod. "Yes, there are a few.." she turned her gaze to the carriage before walking over to it and pulling a blanket out. "Here" she chimed before handing it to him.

Alex thanked her for the blankets and took off his cut up shirt. He tied a blanket around his torso, to stem the minor bloodflow, and tied it over his chest. "Yes. We need to get to your winter home, and hopefully there aren't any more assassins on the road. I don't think I can handle it." He said, walking over to her. "We can take the horses that pulled the carriage." He suggested.

She gave a faint nod as she watched him before going off to gather up the horses. Though she wasn't to sure about leaving the carriage behind, she shrugged it off as she went to work unhitching the horses. As she worked she couldn't help but let her mind wonder of Alex's voice change, true it was only a crack but it never happened before and now it was frequent. She bit her lip before she pulled the horses away from the carriage and glanced over to Alex. "You think you'll be able to ride?"

The prince tied the blanket tighter to stem the bloodflow and when the princess was done unhitching the horses, he walked over. He nodded, still holding the collar together. "Yes... I should be fine. But I would like to see a healer soon." He said. His voice cracked again and he swore aloud. "Come princess... We must make haste." She said.

Her brow lifted ever so slightly to the crack in his voice before she gave a nod and easily mounted the horse. She glanced back at Alex before she gave a soft nudge of her heels to the beast making it take off with a jump and easily moving along the road that lead to her winter home. She knew Alex would be able to follow and keep up with her, after all they had rode together before and he always kept up with her or vice verse. The path was long and after a few deep bends in the road a clearing soon opened up and just pass the lush fields laid her Winter home, up in the hills away from the outside world. Cut off by towering Pine and oak tress, they shielded the castle nicely and made it almost impossible to see all expect the tip of the tall towers. She gave another nudge to the horse who seemed all to eager to reach the castle. The wind whipped through her curled locks, her cheeks flushed as she raced along the dirt road.

Soon trumpets could be heard as the guards shouted to one another before noting it was indeed the princess and her Guard. The gates were quickly opened allowing them entrance and safety. The beat of the hooves against stone echoed through out the tiny court. All at once question came flying and she quickly looked to Alex before she rose her hand in a hushing Manner. "We need the Healer, Quickly!" One guard went off in a sprint to fetch the Healer as another helped her from the horse looking her over before She told them what had happened. Quickly the lead guard gather a few men and set out to retrieve the carriage and the dead men, the clatter of hooves echoing as the made haste out of the castle, the heavy gates closing after them.

She then looked to Alex, her brow knitting together in worry as those heavy violet orbs watched him.

Although the ride itself was very peaceful, it was a very nervous trip. Who knew if they sent in another team? Another group of men could be right around the bend, ready to pelt them with arrows, or stab them to death, and in his weakened state, Alex couldn't fight them off again. He was holding the reigns with one hand, and playing with his collar with the other, trying to fix it. They rode into the smaller castle, and he was ushered off the horse and they helped him walk all the way down to the healer's ward.

He was laid down on a bed easily, and they untied the blanket he had wrapped around himself, and wiped the wound down slowly. They wanted to take the choker off, saying it could inhibit his breathing, but he stubbornly held it in place, and wouldn't let any of the people near it. One of the healer's assistants came over to the princess and bowed. "Your guard will be just fine, your Majesty. He is hurt, but nothing a few bandages and a day or so of rest won't fix." The man said.

She gave a sigh of relief before nodding her head slowly. "Thank you" she chimed softly before fidgeting with her fingers as she often did when nervous. She was so busy worrying about Alex that she didn't bother to think of the danger until now. It was a tad unnerving to think about the ride here now and what could have happened. she was just thankful Alex was okay and they had both made it here safely. "May I see him?" she asked not knowing if he was 'fixed' yet and not wanting to bug.

She seemed uneasy as she looked up to the Assistant but before she could say anything she heard the familiar sounds of hooves beating against the stone. Her gaze drifted outside and slowly she made her way to the returning guards. The Captain quickly getting down and tell her they found no one alive but were able to retrieve her things and the bodies. She nodded slowly as the guard went on, explaining things to her. After awhile he bowed and left her with her thoughts.

The assistant nodded. "Yes, you may see him... But would you know anything about the black choker he wears? It is damaged, and he is holding it together... But holding it against his throat is limiting his air supply. We can't get him to let go of it, and we were wondering if you could. We would appreciate it very much." The man said, bowing to her and departing before the captain showed up.

He spoke for a while, outlining the short battle and what they recovered. He said he was impressed with the prince, and bowed to her as well, departing with his men for the castle. They left the princess standing alone in the small courtyard. The prince was in his own little room, bandaged up, but holding his choker still.

She gave a faint sigh before turning back to head into the castle and to see what do about the choker Alex wore. She found it odd she never really noticed it until now, after all she spent so much time with him, she thought she had spotted everything little thing about him. Though she didn't often pay much attention to his neck. She rolled her shoulders into a faint shrug as she walked back inside and to Alex's room. She gave a soft knock before entering.

"Hi....They told me I could visit.....They told me about your choker. Any reason as to why you won't remove it? It seemed to be causing problems..." she began before looking up over to him, she had been fidgeting with her fingers, not wanting to see him bandaged up so. Her eyes felt heavy as she looked to him, her violet orbs falling on the tiny tore choker.

The male was laying on a large bed that he had been given all to himself. He was shirtless with bandages wrapped around his chest and he waved a bit when she came in. He was still holding the choker together. "Hello, princess." He said. "Yes... The choker is important to me..." He said, being cryptic about it.

He looked away a bit at a loss for words. He had fought with the doctors so they would leave it alone, and they sent in the woman he was charged with protecting. "If you don't mind to terribly, I am quite tired..." He said. "You can stay.. I would prefer it, in fact... But I have to rest." He said, laying back easily.

Her brow slowly lifted before she bit her lip, casting her gaze down. "I don't want to trouble you..." she started before lifting her heavy violet orbs back to him. "Does it need mending? I could fix it while you rested.." she began before biting her lip again, she didn't want to press the issue but she did want to help. She gave a soft sigh before walking over to a plush chair and sitting. Her gaze kept falling from him to the floor as she fought for something to say or do. She hated being the cause of his suffering.

The prince shook his head to say no. "It's fine... I'll mend it later." He said, pulling up his covers with one hand, and slowly falling asleep. He began to snore lightly like usual, and his hand slipped from the black choker. His snoring would start to become high pitched. Every now and again he would have a higher pitched breath and then he would be back to normal. He was fast asleep now, and she would be able to see the latch on his collar when he turned his head away from her slowly.

She had been busy with picking at the pits of grass on her dress when his snoring caused a strange look to cross her face. She hadn't heard it before and it puzzled her. He tone kept changing and before long she stood and walked over to his bed side, ready to wake him to make sure he was okay. Instead she notice the choker and the latch. She stood there for a moment before her finger ran along the the fabric that made the choker. She sighed softly before she glanced around as her fingers took hold of the choker and slowly began to pull it from his neck. Seeing how he was sleeping, she would mend and return it once she was done.
