Alex stared out into the woods and he suddenly grabbed the princess's head and pushed her down, and ducked himself. The arrow sailed through the glass window moments later, shattering the pretty glass into shards. He had pushed the princess beneath himself for just such an occasion, and he gently nudged her to the floor of the carriage. He glanced slowly out of the window as the vehicle rolled to a stop. The right side of the vehicle had been pelted, and Alex guessed that the driver had been hit or had released the reins and threw himself to the floor. The prince drew his sword slowly, only the top of his head showing out of the window. Four men rushed the carriage, each wearing chainmail and a mask. No crests or symbols shone on their armor. They were assassins, sent to kill the princess without anyone knowing any better. "Harlequin. Stay here. Stay down. Until I tell you it is safe, do not move." He said. The men ran up and one of them flung the door open. Alex thrust forward, the tip of his thin rapier slipping through the man's armor and into his throat. He fell back clutching at the wound. The prince leapt from the carriage and knocked another one of them down. He rolled to his feet and the fight began against the two remaining fighters. The prince used his speed and agility to dodge most of the attacks. He blocked one of their swings and dodged the other's. He was incredibly graceful. He seemed to be fighting defensively, perhaps waiting for something. Finally, one of his enemies made the thrusting stab he had been waiting for. He grabbed the man's armored hand after dodging the strike, and pulled him hard, right onto the deadly sharp point of the rapier. He was stabbed, and injured, but the real injury came a second later when the other assassin swung down at the prince, and the clever noble used the first assailant's body as a shield. This certainly killed the man, and he was tossed aside. He began to go toe to toe with the final man. Their blades bounced and clanged off each other to no avail, but in a remarkable surprise attack, the assassin pulled a second dagger and sliced right up the middle. The prince barely avoided a lethal strike by jumping back, but his shirt and more importantly his collar was severed. He also now sported an ugly cut on his stomach. But the move sent this final man off balance, and with one well placed stab, even he fell. The collar was held together by a few strings, almost any kind of touch would ruin it, and the prince's secret would be revealed.
