Hey there! This is an interest check for a Mass Effect RP that takes place between the events of Mass Effect 2 and 3
as the galaxy recognizes the looming Reaper threat and prepares for an intergalactic war. Instead of enjoying Commander
Shepard's story, the plot will follow the story of our crew. I am hoping that by having everyone in the same crew
that there will be plenty of opportunities for bonding moments and exciting interactions when combat comes into play.
Perhaps our dear Commander is a Renegade? Perhaps the crew is not Council-approved at all and are just a bunch of
space cowboys trying to make the galaxy a better place. We can discuss the details, but we need a crew first.

The RP will consist of original characters only and there will be a set roles that can be taken around the ship. A
Commander for sure, a doctor, a pilot, etc. It's all bare bones for now, but who would be interested in this venture?

2186. We're starting the story/game in the period between ME2 and ME3.

So the events of ME2 have occurred, Shepard is under House Arrest, etc...

The Reapers are yet to begin their assault on the galaxy.

Appearance

This former Alliance Engineer was born in County Cork, Ireland on his home world Earth to Catholic parents and baptized as an infant. His family wasn't impoverished, but they also weren't middle class neither. Cattle workers herding and sheering sheep, he spent much of his time outdoors in the slopes of Cork where he grew an ire for adventure and the outdoors. He often described those days as 'the freest and happiest kid in the world'. But even that came to a halt when the young Patrick had graduated from his schooling and was left at a dilemma on where his life direction would take him. Having no opportunity or desire herding cattle for the rest of his life or the finance to blindly enter a career path, he settled on enlisting into the Alliance Navy.

Passing through rigorous training, he found himself apart of the 5th Fleet, 63rd Flotilla Scout aboard the SF-1 SSV Omaha Class 'Typhoon' under XO Lemmons. His vessel was involved with extensive probing of interstellar space and untouched portions while also doing moderate patrols through pirated regions of intergalactic space. Most of his days, he'd spent his time and energy for his job as an Avionics Engineer, which also dealt with Electronical and Mechanical Engineering. Serving as a handyman in the generator with his co-workers, he got to learning the vessel inside out and absorbed the information as he felt like if he were apart of something bigger than himself and doing something with his life.

There were times however where he'd seen dark sides of what the real world had to offer. Responding to an attack of Batarian raiders on a colony on the planet 'Forgreen', the Omaha and 2nd Frontier Division launched an attack to expel any remaining raiders and rescue the survivors. In the aftermath, Patrick volunteered with the medical officers and their group of forty volunteers went about to assist with the displaced colonizers. Patrick saw up close the grim realities some had to face, with wives crying over the bodies of their husbands, children disheveled and dirty, homes burnt and weeping folk damning their God for taking everything from them. From all races, which left a profound impact on the young Patrick. What kind of a person would bring such level of terror and angst, he'd ask himself.

Five years into his service, Patrick was honorably discharged from the Navy and immediately went into work as a devout humanitarian. He swore pacifism and while understood violence, would often refrain from it unless if it was absolutely necessary. He joined and worked with an organization called 'Intergalactic Healers', a non-profit organization ran by few philanthropists and donations. He was aboard a cargo vessel which ferried food to the downtrodden parts of the galaxy. Street corners in impoverished Omega, and even in remote colonies where locals were experiencing unique hardships. He spent his days keeping the vessel up to date, and than participating in handing out food stuffs, medicine, and clothes as a volunteer. He felt by doing so, he was making an actual difference to the world and involving himself into the lives of thousands.

It ended when the money ran out and the philanthropists lost interest and forced the organization to disband after three years of operation. Jobless, Patrick sought to seek work through the Ministry of Defense as a GS Civilian aboard a military vessel, where through his credentials and experience he was directed to one ship that was seeking for additional engineers. Patrick agreed, and settled for his next path.

Bouchard Province is an expansion of France's initial Martial colony and is affiliated with the ESA and EU. It was settled by a team led by millennial Captain Jacques Bouchard in 2035. Today it is Mars' largest urban center and the hub of it's night life, and features the largest collection of casinos in one city, outside of Las Vegas. It also has a recreation of the Eiffel tower, as a tribute to both Vegas and Paris which have shaped it's identity. Most people who live in Bouchard these days hail from (or have relatives who hail from) France, Canada, or the United States. Official languages are French and English. Bouchard also features the Alliance's largest Martian military base and boasts a population of 1.6 million in the city and 220,000 on the base. This is almost half of Mars' entire human population.

It's times like these I'm sad I never finished any of the ME games.

It's times like these I'm sad I never finished any of the ME games.

It's not too late, it's never too late! Oh crap that's a song stuck in my head now :p . Jokes aside, the new ME collection is a good chance to try beating most of them. That said all that matters is not so much a play by play knowledge of the storyline but rather knowledge behind the universe at large and how it works. Do you know what A Turian is? A Mass Effect Field is? How Guns do not have ammo but rather have heatsink systems? That Cerberus is a human focused near zealot organization and that the Reapers are coming? Then I see no reason you shouldn't be in!

Is it too late to throw my hat in the ring??
Same with you Desperado, I see no reason. I think we can use more people in the general crew, not sure about the actual squad so to speak but still. Make yourself whoever you want to play. The bigger the group the better in terms of having our own child forum. (Which in my opinion is the Ideal for any group play.)

I had the new Collection...until I had to sell everything for food money!! Groans in the struggle is real. But at least I have a half-decent computer and good internet, which is better than nothing. What's this about the "actual squad?" That said, if there are more ship-centric roles (e.g. engineer, navigator, helmsman) and more Pathfinder/Spectre-type roles (the kind that venture forth and kick ass planetside), I would prefer to be primarily among the latter category. With that in mind...

Name: David Flannigan
POB: Boston, Massachusetts, Earth
Age: 27
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 230 lbs
Combat Role: Ground Team Lead/Pathfinder/Scout
Shipboard Role: VBSS/Anti-Boarding Defense/Commanding Officer

David's childhood was uneventful, if a little colorful; he was privileged enough to not need to work before turning eighteen, yet he always had a strong work ethic and excelled in school. But when it came down to it, he had always wanted to be an Alliance Naval Officer, and after many trials and tribulations, he had enlisted and skyrocketed through the ranks until he was a Commander, with his own ship. To get there, he had trained extensively with all manner of both Alliance and alien weaponry, and specialized in asymmetrical ground warfare, where he and a small, properly-equipped team would achieve the same effects as a much larger conventional force; as well as a secondary specialization in Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, and repelling hostile boarders on Alliance and allied alien vessels.

His skill was such that he came to wear the coveted N7 designation on his uniform. However, his glory was short-lived after his unit was decimated following a routine patrol gone wrong. He got through it as best he could, but he needed to take some time to himself. This is where he is now, in the midst of the growing Reaper threat, and he has come to realize that if he went back to his ship, it wouldn't do any good; by the time everyone was done squabbling about what could be done, there would be nothing left to defend. And his first duty was to the people of Earth and her allies.

Hopefully, when the dust settled, the Alliance wouldn't mind that he had such a loose interpretation of his oaths, and would be grateful for his willingness to sacrifice his career to stop the Reapers.

Hopefully, he would live long enough to find out.

This has actually got me into replaying the Mass Effect trilogy all over again, so I'm looking forward to it.

I don't know when we are starting but here's some code to help with scene placement for when we are ready.

Code:

If anyone needs help with making an image thumbnail, I know of a safe and free browser based image editor. Or you can just use windows paint lol.

Id imagine people can play things like that, but I also imagine it would be hard to interact with everyone on the regular if you were a non crew member, let alone an antagonist. Id reserve such ideas for a secondary character of yours as opposed to a main but certainly do what you want! Just giving my take on the cons of playing such characters.

Well yeah it would require multiple threads, multiple ships, multiple planets, etc, but it might make things more realistic. It might require a sub board.

By the way are you looking for any non-crew characters? Antagonists, temporary allies, etc?

If you're thinking about various non-crew NPCs, that'll probably be dependant on the scenario - eg a minor merchant you can probably write yourself, but a major plot point would be GM-controlled.

If, rather, you're thinking about having a non-crew character as your primary character, then I'd be a bit hesitant myself, given it'd be limiting yourself to only writing in that specific location, which would be separate to wherever the PC crew is.

Would need discussion with @minccino I'd suggest. :)

Im stretched a little thin, but I can do it if no one else will. Not like there is much interest in my own group interest check any way :p haha. Edit; And that is only if they really did lose interest, which is fine. It happens.
