Ellie nodded. She understood that Cassie would need time to herself after the morning she had had. She hugged her and kissed her before watching her walk away. It was perhaps silly and such a cliché but she couldn't resist calling to her girlfriend.
"Hate to see you go babe, but I sure love watching you walk away."
She broke into a giggle at just how stupid it sounded even if it was true that she did enjoy the sight of Cassie's swaying ass when she walked down the corridor towards the door.
"I suppose you are," Ellie said and followed Adrienne who was almost a full head taller that she was and from what she'd seen of her when she raced he body was quite muscular.
"Y'know I wasn't exactly surprised when I saw your latest video, at least not the part about the two of you being a couple now," Adrienne said as they walked side by side across the school yard heading for their next class.
"I mean ... You've got that vibe about you, and the way Cassie looks at you when you're not looking at her. C'mon ... she would have jumped you in class had she thought she could get away with it. You must have known. Right?"
Ellie looked at her substitute BFF for the day and shook her head, half in disbelief, half to say that no she honestly hadn't known even if now that she did know the signs had been there and some of them had been quite obvious.
She had also been unaware that he had that vibe about her. She was less surprised though that Adrienne had picked up on it. The star runner for the track team was after all the first openly gay person Ellie had known for real.
Class by class, break by break, the school day flew past and the two barely separated except for visits to the toilets. They talked, laughed and Ellie quite enjoyed Adrienne's company and the looks they got as they had coffee in the cafeteria, leaning in close to each other talking in hushed voices, as if sharing secret. Adrienne told Ellie how she'd realised she was into girls even before starting puberty. She had after all been quite boyish herself and boys simply didn't interest her at all. She'd had her first crush on a girl when she was 12 but it had of course not lead anywhere except a very embarrassing rejection when she had asked the girl to dance once. After that the cat had been out of the bag and revealed to be gay. All in all it was a good day despite Cassie not being there.
They also talked about music and Adrienne confessed to being a big fan of Funhouse Sweethearts.
"You guys should really put your music out there in a more I dunno ... professional way. Have you considered starting an artist's account on Spotify?"
Ellie nodded. They had considered it but she said that she didn't think the sound quality she could get out of her equipment was good enough for it.
"Maybe we should look into going to a real studio, do some good quality demos at least."
"You most definitely should," Adrienne agreed.
"I'm telling you, you two could be huge."
About ten minutes after last bell Ellie and Adrienne stood outside the school waiting for Cassie to come pick up Ellie. It would be obvious even from a distance that the two had had a good day together and that they were now friends rather than just classmates.
