Spike was sympathetic to her when she mentioned living on the streets, "I didn't realize you were struggling like that. I grew up in a typical suburban home, but things went sour and I had to leave." He replied keeping the details fairly vague.
When they entered he flipped the switch closest to the door. Instead of turning on the main lights in the office, all that came on was a dim red emergency light on the opposite side of the room. It made it hard to make out any specific details, but it allowed them to walk through without bumping into anything.
The side entrance led into what looked like a seating area with a counter. It was likely used as a front desk for customers. It looked almost like it was lost in time. There was a rotary phone sitting on the counter next to a customer log and cash register. There was even an old box television was mounted in the top corner with a VCR. The furniture was at least a couple of decades old and looked a bit worse for wear. There was one steel door with a small window that led into the main garage, a customer bathroom and a stairway that led up.
Spike walked toward the stairs and responded before they went up, "I live here with my band. I guess that wasn't something brought up before, but they aren't like us. But they know what I am and both Therese and Jeanette know they know so its all on the up and up. I'm not sure how much you know, probably not much, but I'll explain later. Right now, I'll find a safe place for this and a place for you to bunk undisturbed."
