Once Ruby was at his side Bren turned his head away from her and said "I am sorry I left you up there to fight alone...... did Serenity live?" It was clear in his tone and words that Bren was still concerned about Serenity, not able to completely give up his feelings for her. Though before ruby could respond Capetian Carter came up and whispered in Ruby's ear "Bren has been court marshaled, I think they want to interrogate him about Serenity..... they may try to pin it on him"
 
Ruby stiffened as she heard that news before glancing down at the ground, how could they blame it on him... She looked at Bren before taking his hand in hers. "You were stabbed through the chest by someone who should be in the ground dead... No i didn't return her there." Ruby muttered as she glanced at Carter before looking back at Bren as a concerned look formed on her face. "Bren... they are going to be asking questions about this."
 
Carter whispered back to Ruby "Someone has to take him in.... I say we do it... rather then let someone else man handle Bren in his current condition... he would want us to do it to, his own people" When Ruby told Bren what was going to happen he just smiled and shook his head "Well it figures... I let a spy sneak in right under my nose... gather all kinds of intel, then sneak right back out... She did it so easily it almost looks like I helped her"
 
Ruby let out a sigh before she gave a nod and squeezed Bren's hand for a moment as she looked him over with concern in her eyes. "It is not as if she was walking around with i am a spy written on her back." She added with a little chuckle before glancing to the ground. "Carter do we know why they suddenly retreated or did we actually succeed in repelling their attack?" She asked as she looked over at the Captain.
 
"Either way.... It was my job to catch her.. instead I let her use me." Bren replied to Ruby. In response to Ruby Carter shook his head "Headquarters believes they enemy accomplished what it was it set out to do. We don't know what but they are in full retreat for now, they is no sign of them turning back. They are moving everything they had." At Carters words Bren scoffed "Yeah they did what they wanted to... trust me"
 
Ruby gritted her teeth as she felt a small bit of rage begin to bubble up inside of her as she stood up and flexed her hand a little. "What were they trying to achieve then Bren?" She asked him before folding her arms, "And what do you mean it was your job to catch her? Where did she come from in the end or say?" She asked, trying her best to not sound rude to him.
 
"I cannot tell you... its top secret... well I suppose not anymore." He responded to Ruby's questions. At her next question he said "It is my job to make sure everyone in my Legion are not spy's and are loyal. As Colonel that is one of my Jobs, I failed in that."
 
Ruby grinded her teeth a little as she heard this before taking a step back as she took in a deep breath. "I won't be able to help you when you have been taken away for questioning. But i do not plan on letting that woman live out her days till she is old and grey. She insulted you, the country and myself."
 
Bren nodded at Ruby's response and said "Thank you Ruby, Honestly... I don't know if I have it in me to kill her right now." Carter then walked over and gently helped Bren to his feet before handcuffing his arms behind his back "Forgive me Colonel" Bren Shook his head "No its okay... don't worry about it". Carter then looked to Ruby so she could help escort Bren to the court Marshall.
 
Ruby let out a sigh as she went to grab her hat but remembered that it had fallen below the clouds and was somewhere lying on the battlefield amongst the corpses. She escorted him to the court but after a moment asked for a moment to go and at least was the blood off her face that had come out previously from the wound on her face. Washing it away the crystal clear water turned a mixture of brown and red, the cold water stinging it as she traced a finger along it. "Hmm.. lucky to have my nose.." She muttered before heading back, pulling on her coat and adjusting her uniform to hear this out.

President-General Jack Griffin sat at the head of the court, his hair was black and midlength and held off his face revealing rather aged but handsome features. He had a rather rich looking moustache that obscured his lower lip and his jet black eye stared down at those below him. His uniform was neat and exquisite. Yet the blade in which he rested both his hands upon looked recently clean. He must have come from his own battlefield to help out with the other. Strapped over his right eye however was an eye patch, and on the right hand was a glove coated in metal plates. The court inside were talking and bustling waiting for this court marshal to take place.
 
As Ruby cleaned herself Bren was cleaned up as well, new clothes where given to him that where not covered in his blood. Once he was cleaned up Bren was taken to the court room where President-General Jack Griffin was a sat down in front of him. Bren didn't say much or do much, he knew what was coming. Hell he had let secret plans slip into an enemy spy, then let her slip out. He would be lucky to get away with just a demotion. Though he feared the worst, just hoping he could get away without life behind bars. Though soon court was starting and he was ordered to stand up.
 
The court continued to talk before one of them stood up and moved towards Griffin as they began to speak into his ear. With a grunt he dismissed the man before leaning forward, causing the chair he was sitting on to creak. "Bren Charles, you have been called here for a rather extraordinary case. Your ex-fiance has returned from the grave and is opposing us with the enemy. I as well as the rest of this court are wondering. How... and why you did not see her for what she truly was. The rift is a great source of power, and if someone like her with the powers she has she cannot be left as a piece along the field." He stared down at Bren, the power of this man radiating off him.
 
As President Griffin spoke, Bren just listened to him. When she finally asked him why and how he took a deep breath. Once Griffin had finished talking, the air in the court room became stiff. After a moment in time Bren looked up at President Griffin and said "She tricked me, I failed to see her for who she truly was. I don't have a good excuse or reason nor will I make one up. I assure you that I had nothing to do with allowing her to spy on us, nor did any other members of my Legion.... at least to my knowledge."
 
"Did you discuss with her information that someone of her rank should not have known?" He asked further, his eye never leaving Bren and his face remaining like stone as he didn't give away any hint of emotion as he spoke. He was taking in the information and making use of it. Ruby sat as she watched this going on, biting her tongue as she felt the urge to speak up.
 
"No I didn't, as you know she was originally thought to be an integral part of our plan... but once we found out that her ability wouldn't help we had to remove her from the plan. Either way she does know about that" Bren replied, speaking rather cryptically, though President Griffin would fully understand what he was referring to and why he speaking in such a cryptic manner.
 
"Then with that i see no reason for this court martial to continue. Bren i sentence you to a demotion of the rank of captain and you are to spend two years in military prison to be taken out during times of emergency. We are dismissed." He said as he stood up and turned. "I have a spy to hunt down." He added and was the first to leave after his sentence had been done.

Ruby widened her eyes as she heard this. Two years... that was... She stared down at Bren wondering what he was thinking, and what on earth this plan was about.
 
Bren said nothing in return to this, he knew this was coming. He had messed up bad and there had to be consequences. Bren just turned to Ruby and smiled at her as he was taken away to the brig where he would spend the next two years of his life. Unless he was needed for something.
 
The next two years went by slowly the war seemed to be reaching a stalemate for the while. What news there was coming through was only be relayed by Ruby when she came to visit Bren in his cell, after he was her partner. She visited as often as she could and so did other squad members and captains. The days trickled by slowly like sand through an our glass before finally the two years were up. Oddly enough though Qwindalia was winning. It seemed in the latest assault launched by Jack Griffin had been a major success.
 
As Bren spent the next two years in prison, not a day went by where he didn't train his body. That is how he got through most of the time, though the best days where ones he got to see Ruby. Talking with her and spending time with her was his heaven in the hell that was his solitude. Since Ruby was still deployed they where able to spend private time together still, so that they could continue to strengthen their bond and her magic power would increase. Bren also was able to learn about what was going on outside. Though he wished he could be by his Legions side, protecting them.
 
In the last month of saw Bren was visited by none other than Griffin. He came in, "I am well aware he is a prisoner, but i am the leader of this country and i will see all those who i wish." he explained before walking into the cell, a large coat draped over his shoulders as he sat on the opposite end of the room in silence for a few moments. "I have to say you are looking stronger than when you were put in here." He noted, not one to miss the little details. "Should you wish it... you may be released immediately. However if you accept you, and Miss Bellum will be working in my unit for this final operation code name Phoenix." He said as he cocked his head. "Afterwards provided everything goes according to plan... you will be a free man."
 
As Griffen mentioned his size he just went "Tchh... no shit". Then as Griffin explain what was going on and brought up Ruby he just shook his head. "Let me guess you need me to use that thing? are we close enough to blow up the city? Did you tell ruby... did you tell her that we planned to get me close enough to their strong hold so I could blow the whole city up along with everyone and everything inside it along with myself? Does she know?"
 
Griffin tilted his head to the side a little, tolerating the out burst of Bren before he shook his head, slowly. "No Bren so keep that dummy in your mouth." he warned, "And do not forget who you are speaking to." He wanred, as he was the leader of their country still. "It's a simple operation and it isn't a request it's an order."
 
"Good... don't tell her about it." Bren replied wanting to keep that ability secret from Ruby. He knew she would never let him do it if she knew about it. "I haven't forgotten, just wanted to make sure you where coming to me as a soldier and not as a prisoner." Bren said before listening to his last state. "Fine then Sir, I will join your operation. Though only if I can work side by side with Ruby"
 
Griffin nodded his head, "That is why she is joining us on this mission Captain, you two are partners after all. I am not blind to the visits she has made to you. She is certainly more loyal than the last." he commented, a little bitter about a spy getting in. He stood up and left the cell, the door remaining open. "Feel free to collect your things and return to HQ."
 
"She is" Bren replied to Griffin's comment about Ruby. He then walked out of the room past Griffin as he told him he was free to collect his things. He then walked back and took his time getting dressed before putting on his signature cloak and glasses.
