A smile! It brought such an exhilaration to Rupi’s heart that she actually burst a little in laughter, before stopping herself. Natalya was alright. She was alive! Relief flooded Rupi’s body and mind, causing her to sigh. Her own state and condition did not matter to her, only Natalya’s well-being. Where such compassion and caring had come from, she did not know. Rupi found herself attracted to this woman like nothing she had ever experienced in her life. Her wildness, her fierceness, her stubborn independence, Rupi loved it all.
And those bastards had beaten it out of her. They left her just a mere shell. But she had smiled, if only for a brief moment, and that was another win. They had not broken her completely. There was something left inside. Rupi would find it and she would bring it out.
“Shhh.” She immediately hushed, when Natalya spoke. Her voice was barely a whisper, a painful act for her to even do. Rupi had no idea what was being said but she could guess at it. Natalya wanted to know, probably. She wanted to know why this happened. How could this have happened. And perhaps worst of all, how come Rupi had not been there? There was nothing she could do or say, merely hushing the blonde woman as she began to stroke from of her hair back. It was mottled with blood. Rupi licked her thumb and while she cradled the woman’s head in her lap, before to gently rub away at the various bruises on her body, cleaning them as best she could.
“Look what they did to you. Those beasts…” Rupi cursed silently, her face graven with fury. She continued to lick her thumb as she wiped at Natalya’s face tenderly. In the process, she got a taste of Natalya’s blood. Yet even that was not enough to draw her attention away from her work. With one hand, she cradled her head and stroked her hair, with the other she wiped away at the blood stains and cuts. Her hands and feet had been terribly wounded. Her ribs felt crushed. Rupi knew she needed medical attention. But from who? Who would help her?
“Rest now…” Rupi cooed, starting to hum a soft tune.
