The Mercenary (Beautiful_Disgrace and I)

Sona was ready for his attack despite not wanting to fight him. Even though..even though this was her best friend..the man she had realized she had fallen in love with...she stayed on her guard. She didn't believe Pit would stab her..but he did. She..wasn't going to make that mistake again. "Why are you doing this, Ike? What happened? Are you..upset that I wasn't there during the attack? I'm sorry..." As much as she wanted to see some sign of him being possessed..he just looked like the Ike she knew.

"The world is never black and white, Sona," Ike said casually. "You know that, even if you never believed it." he murmured. "This is the grey world, the real world. You either adapt, or you die. Which will it be?"

"You're the one who butchered all of those people!" Chrom growled. "I heard it from the guards! You killed Ylisstol from within! You and that shadow woman!" Ike's expression didn't change, neither did his pose as the battle raged around them.

"Make your choice, Sona," Ike murmured. "I did those things, I killed an entire city of people. This is it. This is what the grey world is like, where there is no easy answer...or easy solution. You're in my way, and I have to keep moving."

Tears began streaming down Sona's cheeks as he confessed to doing those horrible things. She was silent for just a moment before she started to chuckle a bit. Though Ragnell began to glow in her hands as a focused expression came upon her face. "I'm glad that...I'm human now. Because...if I wasn't, I would have begged you to use me again. But...things are different." The tears didn't stop falling, but her eyes became resolute. "I can't let you get passed me. I won't go easy on you. I know everything about the way you swing a sword..you won't win against me when I'm serious."

"Then I expect to be impressed," Ike said, discarding his cape. He couldn't show anything other than firm commitment, he couldn't let her think that this was a wrong path. She had to grow, and he would force it if he had to. "Show me why I gave you what is rightfully yours, Sona."

Sona wiped her tears away. Why did it have to be this way..? All she wanted was to see him again...but now she had to fight him? It didn't matter. Her happiness VS the word being saved...the only choice was the later. Besides..Ike seemed to be determined to fight her, anyway.

Without warning, she swung Ragnell high in the air. Instead of the standard slash magic he was used to, the tip of the sword hissed white and a beam of light shot towards him. She had the upper hand from far away..it would force him to close the distance, and once he did she would have a surprise waiting for him. She just couldn't mess up...or the fight would be a lot more drawn out.

Ike rushed forward, bold...but given that he was outnumbered, he had little choice. The pillar of light slammed behind him, and he swung his massive blade down in a wave of darkness. Chrom waited, for the moment...because Impa's little trick was fading, and the army was starting to cross. They needed help!

Sona moved Ragnell effortlessly to block his strike. She didn't even have to look at him to know where he was aiming. As she said...she knew exactly how he swung the sword. Because...as much as he had fallen into the darkness..she was still in tune with him. Now that she had calmed herself...she could feel what he would do. The only problem was he was much stronger than him, but she'd fix that very soon.

She moved her arm behind her back quickly and drew her rapier, stabbing it towards his abdomen. She didn't hesitate...she wouldn't this time. Even if it was Ike..she couldn't back down.

A rapier? Impressive, Ike didn't see it coming, and he shifted to let the armor take most of the blow as it sunk into a gap of his armor. But he had learned a few new tricks too, he slid across the blade with a growl of pain, his fist connecting across her cheek as Chrom advanced, swinging his blade to the side. Amazingly, Ike blocked it in time. Chrom blinked in shock. That two handed sword, just...used like it was weightless!?

Samus took advantage of Chrom's surprise, sending a powerful kick to his side to get him away from Ike. She was still there, but she had been dealing with the Sheikah warriors. Annoying to say the least. But she wasn't going to allow Ike to fight two people on his own.

Sona blinked a little, but she kept both swords in her hand steady as she narrowed her eyes at Ike. She hoped Chrom would be okay with Samus..but she couldn't worry about that. The punch reminded her that she was mortal, because he had managed to stun her with it. It hurt. "..I see. I will have to end this quickly." Sona began as her aura started to glow brighter. In fact, it was taking shape into something familiar. "Palutena...would want me to use this."

Chrom barely managed to defend as he slid back with a grimace. Ike's eyes narrowed faintly at that, adjusting his stance as Chrom stood in front of Sona. Whatever she was doing, she'd need a little more time. He attacked, and Ike moved in. Chrom was good, Gurgurant was mostly used as a defense...but it was all to buy time, but of course...where Impa was, Link and Zelda were soon to follow, and with them came the remnant of the Hylian army and other rebels.

Link...that would complicate things.

Sona was grateful for Chrom's assistance, though it did bring more attention to him as Samus attacked him from afar using her needles, though even her projectiles stopped short at whatever Sona was doing. Tch..most of her attacks were useless against the girl.

Sona's light finished taking form..into wings. It was hard to say if she could actually fly, or if it was merely for show, however. Her dark skin was glowing a radiant gold, along with her red eyes that stared at Ike. Her hair was also shining..it didn't even seem physical anymore. She couldn't stay in this form too long with a mortal body..but she was stronger this way. She needed to use this borrowed strength from Palutena efficiently to fend off Ike. "It's over," Sona's voice was metallic, or rather it seemed to be echoing in the air. "I was blessed by two Goddesses..two strong ones. Not like Medusa." She muttered before she darted for Ike, Ragnell pointed right for his neck. She was much faster than before. This magic allowed her to go outside of her mortal boundaries.

Ike would have been worried, but the skies rumbled...and Ganondorf glanced up with an amused smirk, overlooking the battle...but not taking part. Medusa did not enjoy this show of power, but she had more strength. Ike was her champion now, nothing could change that. When Ragnell came down with superhuman speed, Ike's arm shifted and darkness solidified into a huge shield. The blade slammed into the formation of darkness, the arcane shape hissing as he slid back until he was at the edge of the river.

"...Ike?" Link muttered in surprise, blade and shield at the ready. What in the...Ike was the Black Knight!?

Lucina had accompanied Link, though her mother had stayed behind with Zelda. It was...probably a good thing too. Her father had survived the massacre. Sona who was thought to be dead, was standing there like a single candle illuminating the darkness that threatened to consume them all. She wanted to be happy. But Ike..Ike was...fighting against them. Why? What in the world...

No, it wasn't important. She had to stand with her father. She'd think about it later, and if Sona could be strong and do what had to be done..so could she.

"Darkness won't ever defeat the light," Sona began as she stared up at him. Another explosion of magic came from Ragnell, but it was weak and it didn't push him back. Instead, it was meant to distract him, and also to move his shield enough for her to get around it with her second sword. "I want to save you..even if I have to kill you!"

"There is nothing to save," Ike stated, following through with her feint before he shifted the grip on his sword in a reverse grip to slam it into her stomach. The others were advancing, and he had no choice...he had to hold the line.

"Samus, surround them." Ike ordered firmly. The river was starting to run red with blood...and Ganondorf simply watched.

Sona couldn't feel pain in this form, only fatigue. But she was just getting started. Even as more people she knew started fighting along her side..all she cared about was stopping Ike here and now. Without his helmet, Sona merely used that as an opening. As primitive as it may have been, rammed her skull into his face as hard as she could.

Samus obeyed Ike's order..her and her shadows were no use around Sona anyway. She wasn't even sure if she wanted to win this battle..all she was sure of was that she would do anything he said.

Ike staggered back in surprise, and Link advanced the moment he had the chance to do so. His blade slammed into the shield, it's light cutting the shield in half as Ike shifted his posture and swung his blade high, making Link block and slide back.

"Why!?" Link growled. "I don't understand!"

"And you won't," Ike mumbled. "So stop wasting your breath, all of you should be more than enough to stop me, this is just pathetic."

"I'm not done!" Sona growled, disregarding Link despite not having seen him in months. She was fine with people stepping in...her magic would not harm her allies. Which was why she sent another ray of light crashing down on Ike, parting the sea of dark clouds that loomed above them. She couldn't do another attack like that..unless she wanted to push her body to it's limits.

It came down fast, and hard...and Ike avoided it to step into Link's exceptional swordsmanship. There was a parry, and then Chrom was there. He weaved, slipping the blade between his arm and the space between his ribs as he spun his cursed blade around to smack the pommel against Chrom's Falchion, and then Lucina. He blocked high and shifted the blade downward in a thunderous shockwave of dark energy.

"You've gotten stronger, Sona," Ike murmured. "You've hidden your weaknesses."

Sona stopped the dark shockwave from harming Link, Chrom and Lucina. She hated that after all this, he was still complimenting her. Like he was still her Ike. No..he was. Which was why this was so painful. Even if he wasn't evil..she still had no choice but to fight. "I'm ending this, Ike. I don't..have the strength to do it myself. I love you too much. But..they do." Sona's light began to spread into three parts, and the three around her would feel a boost of power as their bodies illuminated with her light. Sona was back to normal now, but she looked very tired.

"Sona..what is.." Lucina felt herself brimming with strength and courage, but she knew that this wouldn't last long. With this..they could win this battle today. Lucina raised her blade towards Ike as she slowly moved closer to him. If they worked together, they could easily defeat him.

Lucina made the first move with her newfound power and grace. She was like a dancer with her blade, rapidly slashing at his armor with precise strikes.

Ike took the first blow, but only because he had to get in closer. It sheered through the chest of his armor, and he stopped the continuous slash with his sword before shoving his shoulder forward to stagger her. He moved to attack with a side swing, but Link was there. His shield took the blow and he dug his heels in as a scatter of light and darkness filled the air, Chrom appeared to his opposite side, rushing forward to stab.

Ike grimaced, shifting his foot back to let the blade skirt along his ribcage as Chrom blinked in surprise. and felt his elbow slam intot he back of his neck. He groaned in pain as he staggered forward, shaking his head.

Incredible, even with the three of them, he was still a threat.

Samus was too busy to help him, but that was fine. He rolled his neck, tugging off his shorn chest plate. "I fight better with less," Ike murmured. "I expected more from the three of you."

"Tch," Link muttered. He couldn't believe it, Ike was...Ike was Ike. There wasn't anything to suggest something had happened to him, he still had the same steely resolve in his eyes. He was an exceptionally talented warrior, and one he would have considered a friend. Now? He didn't know what was going on...but Ike was clearly the enemy.

"Lucina," Link murmured. "Together, alright? I'll cover your advance."

Lucina looked at Link and nodded. She wasn't too happy that Ike had struck her father..he had to be stopped. This was crazy though, just how strong was he? "I'm going." She muttered before she once again dashing towards Ike. Instead of a direct attack, she nimbly rolled low to the ground. In an instant she was on her feet, swing her sword upwards to try to cut his back. There was no hesitation in any of her actions. She wouldn't let Sona down. For some reason, she could feel Sona's emotions. Maybe it was because of her power. How could Ike do this? What was going on in his head?

Ike knew that attacking Lucina meant that Link had would have himself wide open, so he had to stay on the defensive. He shifted backwards, away from them both as he held Gurgurant in a half-sword grip. His movement gave Link the opening he needed as he slammed his shield into Ike's sword, making him dig his heels in and retaliate with a close downward swing of the pommel, his non-dominant hand gripping the middle of the blade. Link blocked and moved to stab as Ike shifted the other half of the blade down, skirting it across the Master Sword.

"Let's keep the pressure on him," Chrom said to his daughter. Lucina...Robin was around too, he couldn't think about that right now, but...he was happy to see them both alive.

"Yes father.." Lucina was glad to be fighting at his side once more. It gave her morale, she was already rushing in once more to cover Link. This time she came from the side, sending a powerful thrust of her sword towards his upper body. He couldn't fight the three of them forever.

Ike blocked with his crossguard as Chrom came up the opposite side, slashing low as Ike shifted the blade down for a loose block, it shifted his blade a fraction and it allowed Link to close the gap. His Master Sword went in for a thrust and Ike used the momentum of the awkward block to parry, sending the Master Sword across his shoulder with a grimace of pain. He took a shift to the side, blocking a swing from Chrom before his sword was back in it's proper position.

"Why?" Link muttered. "I don't understand!"

"You won't," Ike said firmly. "So stop trying, you're still in my way." The three of them were talented, extremely so...Zelda's forces were starting to pull back, and Impa would be joining the fight soon enough. He had to end this.

"Fine," Link muttered. "Give up, or fall in the river. Your choice."

"You can't get me in the river," Ike stated easily. "The three of you have only scratched me."

Lucina narrowed her eyes as she took up her fighting stance again. "We don't have time to talk..." She could feel whatever blessing Sona had place upon her fading. Sona herself looked fatigued..whatever she was doing to them required immense concentration on her end. "Let's..end this. Now. Together."
