Vikki blushed a little. She'd never been the sort anyone had confided in before, not really. She couldn't count the times some of the other cheerleaders had talked to her about things since most of that was gossip and nonsense, catty drama that had no substance behind it whatsoever. Half the time she wished those girls hadn't bothered to contact her and then when they had, she often times found herself only partially listening and giving advice that wasn't from the heart at all. But as she sat there with Trevor, it was quite different. She found herself actually caring, genuinely interested and when he smiled and saw the look in his eyes... that was more than any trip to the mall could ever hope to satisfy. Truly her parents and all the 'supposed friends' from her past had it backwards. You couldn't buy friends or relationships. You couldn't buy anything like that at all.
"You're welcome. I really think you have heaps of talent and I'm glad you've showed me what you have so far." Vikki blushed a bit more. "Hopefully you'll show me more some time," she added and giggled softly.
Vikki then looked into Trevor's eyes and smiled at him. He'd already done so much for her and hadn't even realized it and it was why she'd had no problem telling him her secret, even though she was a bit nervous to in the beginning. He'd stood up for her in the pizza place quite blatantly and more than once. He gave her the one sketch he drew because he noticed her looking at it. Such a simple thing her own mother could never comprehend. And now, he'd given her a wristband and was offering her another drawing, one from his sketchbook no less. She wondered if he understood just what that meant to her. No one had ever been that thoughtful. Ever.
"Really? I can have one? Are you serious?" Vikki then said more than asked. Her entire face lit up as she smiled at Trevor. She leaned over so she could look at the drawings he'd shown her and thought a moment. "You know what," she finally said. "Would it be all right if I had the birds?" She liked them all, but the birds spoke to her for some reason. He'd said it didn't seem overly original, but to her they were two birds stopping to watch everything about them, to take that moment to appreciate life for what it was. It had more meaning to her than anyone could know even if it hadn't been intended.
