To the Highest Bidder Goes the Prize (Chuckeles/butterfly040

"She knows she can trust you it seems," Kiana says as she returns to pick up the baby from the crib once again to feed her lunch before she would take her own. Taking the seat beside the bed once again, Kiana directs her to start feeding once again. "She was apparently born to be a daddy's girl."

He bite into the bread chewing slowly as he watches her with the baby. "I'm sorry I missed out on so much of her beginning love. I wish I could go back to that day and change things so that I was here for you." He reached out with his hand to touch hers squeezing it lightly. "Don't worry I plan on being here for all the rest."

Thinking back on the events that took him from her, then the ones that brought him back, and at last to the ones since then that took them to this very point... she ended up squeezing his hand back. It was the first sign perhaps that she truly was starting to come around to his side of thinking, "Lets not think about the past. You suggested that yourself. Let's look at the here, the now, the tomorrow. Alright?"

Lund smiles feeling her squeeze his hand back. He takes her hand pressing a soft kiss on it. "Have you talked with my sister yet. She will be the best teacher we can find for you at this time." His eyes watch her for a moment before getting a mischievous glint to them. "How is it Nessa knew about our little play times together love? Lily said she knew and was very upset."

She shook her head, "I have not left this room since you were hurt. Then you woke up and well, you know what happened. I left for that one night and returned again. I have hardly spoken to anyone let alone your sister. She's so busy worrying over her newly betrothed. He is to be here within the week to meet with her and have the papers signed. I fear the little I know of her situation, her heart has been broken." She started to blush then, "As for Nessa... I have come to learn that Nessa knows everything. I don't know how she does, but she knows."

He frowns softly as he squeezes her hand again slowly. "Darling what happened to the man my sister was in love with? You said she was involved with someone in the castle." He continues to frown softly as he glances towards the door then back at her. "I don't want to see her make a mistake by agreeing to this marriage."

She sighed, "Again, I know little, but from what I do know after they were caught the man never sought her out again. And Angus says he left to boot. I feel she is heartbroken and left feeling abandoned by him. Perhaps he thought she was better off without him. I don't know. He can't dare come back now for I think your father has determined that the missing guard has to have been him." She smiled a little, "But I hear the man she is to meet and marry now is nice? Much kinder then his brother whom she would have been arranged with before she was a.... well a ruined woman as they are calling her. I think she's just young really. Naive even."

He sighs softly as he nods slowly. "I was hoping things would work out with her and this man. Although if he abandoned her this easy perhaps it's for the best that he is gone." He shakes his head slowly as he begins eating again seeming to have lost some of his appetite, but keeps eating knowing he has to finish the food or upset his wife.

The room seeps a bit into silence again. Other then the sound of his eating and Sarah nursing from her mother. Kiana could not help but feel a little light headed. Perhaps she should have eaten before feeding Sarah. Come to think of it. When had been the last time she had eaten? The days seemed to all merge and shift, her vision of them all distorted while waiting for her husband to wake. And now she could not remember anything about the care she had or had not taken with herself. Looking down at the babe, she felt bad ending her meal but Kiana felt she needed her own desperately as she returned Sarah to her crib, despite the baby's protest.

Lund swallows abit more of the bread dipped into the broth. He glances at Kiana pausing mid chew as she lays Sarah down. "Kiana are you feeling alright darling?" He swallows softly as he shifts moving to start to move the tray. "Do you need my help with anything?" He clears his throat taking a drink of water.

Jas stands outside the manor glancing up having returned the night before. His eyes roam to Lily's window wishing he could see her once more. His head ducks as he spots Angus on the wall looking downwards. He quickly pulls up his hood as he makes his way to a maid getting her attention before she enters. He slips her a few coins and a letter for Lily making her promise to deliver it right away.

Kiana's hand gently raised to her temple as if she had a head ache, "It's quite alright. I just... I need something to eat myself. I can't quite recall at the moment when I last ate." It could have been yesterday or the day before or even sometime before that for all she knew looking back now. She moved towards her plate that sat upon the table. At first she moved to pick it up and move closer to him but could not. She had to sit and eat right there and then of she felt she would grow dizzy crossing the room again. And so she sat at the table and started to eat her own lunch.

----------

Lily sat near the fireplace, working on a piece of needlepoint. A sigh coursed through her. She missed Jas but at the same time felt betrayed by him. Perhaps a married life would not be so bad, even with a stranger. The man was said to be nice enough. But would he accept used merchandise?

Tha maid came knocking at her door a short time later and handed her the note. It did not say on the outside who it was from and the maid did not know either. And so once the maid departed, Lily broke the seal upon it and read.

Lund tenses slightly hearing her words. "darling you have to remember to eat. I know you've been worried over me, but the baby needs you healthy as well." He sits ready to throw his tray to the side if she should fall. The tension eases from his shoulders as he watches her sit and begin to eat. Shifting slightly he moves to lean back beginning to eat at his bread and broth. He keeps an eye on her swallowing softly.

---
The letter from Jas is written simple words as he begs for Lily's forgiveness and proclaiming his love for her. Toward the bottom of the letter he ask her to meet him at the small lake at the edge of the manor grounds at midnight. It signed simply Jas with a heavy hand more used to handling a sword then a pen.

Kiana picked at her food, far more appetizing then his of course since she was able to eat some solid meats. She seemed distracted at first but then she noticed how he was keeping his eyes on her while he was eating. The intense look of his watchful eye made her smile, "It's alright. See? I'm eating."

---

Lily read the letter and did not know what to do. Giving into Jas's will had caused chaos before and had not only ruined her reputation but hurt her families' as well. Could she honestly give into his will once again? She knew she could still never say no to him if they were face to face. And the stakes where even higher now. She was to be married. Before their was only talks. Now there were plans. It was not something she could turn her back on. Especially after Lund had and then Jak as well. It was her duty to make sure there was no further scandal in the household. She would not meet him. The question was how many times that decision would change between then and midnight.

Lund smiles as she insist she is eating his eyes on her watching carefully. "Alright I believe you darling. I just wanted to make sure you were, because you were alittle pale there for a moment." He finishes his own broth up glancing at the meat on her plate wishing he had some. While wishing for some meat he ponders asking for another bowl of the broth.

---
Jas has taken refugee in a tavern that affords him a seat with a view that let's him look up and see Lily's windows. A glass of wine sits before him barely touched and the serving girls barely glanced at. His mind is to busy with thoughts of lily and hope for seeing her again this very night. Another small sip as he thinks over the mistakes he has made.

Kiana glanced up to see Lund watching her. Or was it that he was eying her food up. She smiled realizing that's what it was. Feeling better having food within her, she picked up the plate and moved to sit at his side. Setting the plate down she picked up the meat and tore off a small section of it, handing it to him, "Only a little bit... you looks like a starving dog."

He tries to avert his eyes failing to do so as he notices her walking over once more. A soft smile spreads across his lips as she hands him the small piece of meat. "Ive been eating this broth the last few days what do you expect darling?" He leans over kissing her lips softly before popping a piece of the meat into his mouth.

"To obey your nurse when she tells you that what little strength you have could be wasted on chewing to much." She smiles as she kisses him and then settles back in her seat to continue with her own lunch while he was finishing up with his, "Tomorrow I'll give you some more. And a little more the day after. You'll work your way back up to it." Her smiled turned warm with a memory. "Was I like this when I was laid up in bed that time?"

He smiles softly as he glances over at her plate pondering his chances to take a second piece of meat. "I don't feel that tired from just eating a single piece love?" Smiling softly he reaches over to caress her cheek tenderly as he looks into her eyes. "I do love you Kiana and I'm glad your here to take care me." he smiles again his hand moving to try and grab another piece of meat.

She looks at him, smiles, and hands him another piece. "You know how to charm your wife...." She even picks apart another piece of her meat and hands him a second piece as well. "Don't say I never do anything for you though. I should not be giving you this."

He smiles softly taking the second piece munching on it slowly. "I should hope I know how to charm you after all this time darling?" he leans over pressing his lips to her neck just below her hear. His lips dont stay there long before he pulls back letting out a breath of warm air against her neck. His lips are turned up in a smile as he pulls back watching her.

Her eyes as just lightly closed, her lips hanging open ever so slightly open in a sign of her attraction and approval of what he was doing to her. Damn him for knowing all her weak spots. He could make her do as he pleased with just a little... persuasion. This was only proved as he pulled back and she handed him an additional piece of meat. A little reward it seemed.

Lund smiles softly as he takes her hand squeezing it softly. "Thank you love." He begins eating the meat finishing it quickly as he scoots closer to her. He leans in his lips once more brushing against her neck as he lets his fingers trail along her hand tracing along her palm. "I love you Kiana. I love you so much." His lips are curled up into a smile as he continues to kiss her neck lingering on each spot for few moments.

She seems in a bit of a daze as a light hint of a moan escapes her lips before she smiles and places her fingers under his chin, tilting his face to look at her. In the a husky, lusty voice, with that smile on her lips still, she whispers to him, "You're not getting any more meat..."

He smiles hearing the light moan that escapes her lips. He seems abit surprised as she places her fingers under his chin turning his head towards her. A soft smile plays across his lips as he takes her hand pressing his lips to her palm softly. His lips then move to her wrist kissing softly. "This time I was seeking a large prize Kiana my love."

She shakes her head, "Nay. We have been to bold enough already. I still heal and you still heal as well. That is one prize you shall not be granted for awhile yet. When we are both in a condition to enjoy it."
