"War. War never changes"

  • The Romans waged war to gain slaves and wealth, Spain built an empire on it's lust for gold, Hitler forged a battered Germany into an economic superpower... But war never changes.

In the twenty first century, War was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also it's weapons, petroleum and uranium. For these reasons, China would invade Alaska, The U.S would Annex Canada, and the UN would disintegrate into a gaggle of bickering nation-states bent on controlling all the remaining resources available.

In the year 2077 the storm of world war had come again, in two brief hours, the wold was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of nuclear destruction, a new civilization would struggle to arise. This is the world we all live in now.

Now, many years after the threat of the Enclave was removed from the Capitol Wasteland an new story is about to unfold. Along the Eastern coast of what was the United States of America, New York City was one of the most modern and advanced of all cities, before the War, it was a spectacle, a place where countless people lived their lives. During the war, Plague and rampant crime lead to the city being sealed off from the rest of the nation, isolated from the rest of the world from a giant wall... When the bombs fell all exits of the city were buried, Now, hundred of years after the bombs fell, the city has been reopened... Scavengers travel from all over the wastelands, wanting a chance to strike it rich in the ancient city, full of ancient technology often more advanced than anywhere else just waiting to be taken. Of course the city is full of danger, mutant degenerates, toxic water, dangerous unstable buildings and labyrinthine streets capable of confusing all but the most advanced explorer. Deep in the city things stir, things about to be unleashed by a group of unwary adventurers. ( This part is not concrete or confirmed... just a placeholder for the time being.) [/list:u]

Welcome to the world of FALLOUT.

Hello Folks, I am Midnight, and I want to create a Roleplay based on the Fallout Video game series. Dudeguy and I have been working on it for long enough I have decided to post an interest check to see how many people are interested before taking off and making an OOC.

The purpose of this thread is to determine how many people would be interested in a group roleplay set in the Fallout Universe. I have some ideas for a story, and I will reveal them in a later post. When enough people show interest, and we settle on a plot and on settings I will either rewrite this thread or post a new one and send everybody a link. If you are interested, simply post here and/or check yes in the vote box provided

This thread is also a place to discuss ideas, as the story and setting for this rp have not been set yet. Currently, and by default, the setting will take place on the east coast. Dude and I have come up with quite a few ideas possible for a good story but there is always room for improvement, feel free to discuss character ideas in here as well as anything else you feel like while I make the full OOC thread.

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • Yeah, the World page alone is informative enough to get anyone and everyone up to date on things, and with all of the links there it's impossible not to be able to find everything.

Portraying the relationship between the group and the factions should prove pretty fun too, especially how fragile they all are, and by seeing how it's going to effect the world that's being built up here. Them Talon boys are going to have to be careful coming after boss man though. With all of the stuff that he and the group are going to live through, I'm sure some mercenaries aren't going to be that much of a challenge for them. They have more men and guns, but that's probably just about all they have.

And cool beans man. We'll have all of the details figured soon enough. I'd say. . .wait until we can get another person or two before posting up the profile sheet though. So we don't get too far ahead of ourselves. [/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

Yeah, still.

Boss would have been one of the most skilled mercenaries in the group during his days as a grunt, he could have kicked his share of ass. Talon would have a hard time getting him, especially surrounded by his group of specialists. One possibility is that Talon will be coming back for Boss, trying to get (Force) him to rejoin even though he developed a "bad case of morality". That would still be bad of course, cause they would try to get to him through his people, and nobody fucks with Boss's squad.

Hah, there is always stuff to talk about. ^.^

Meh, even for future reference. It takes me a bit to put one together and I am able to construct my character sooner. I think I will give the Group's robot a profile for an example too. XP. Currently, I am trying to get it in context, thinking some parts will be in first person, the character sending in a holotape attached.

Themes, y'know. I am also thinking of background stuff, their base, layout and everything, what type of weapons they should have (expense wise)

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • The holotape thing is a good idea. It'll go along with the way that we have things set up already. Of course. ..the one for the boss would be. . .odd. Maybe it could be like an introduction of himself to the others? My character, and the potential other survivor character, would have some older tapes. Possibly. Unless you want them to have tapes that are like the boss'.

I'm certain my character wouldn't really take kind to people trying to kill their people either. And the last person you really want to piss off is someone who does things like shoot monsters in the head while they're completely calm. So yeah. . .anyone unfortunate enough to try anything on the group. . .well. . .they lived a good life. Hopefully. 'Cause it's over. XD

I wouldn't sweat the profiles too much for now. Just keep'em simple and to the point. We should be fine then. Their base, the town, the intro to the ruins, and the weapons are definitely something that needs to be considered though. What do you have on that stuff so far?[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

The Boss's could possibly to be funny, yes. "Do I really have to do this?" >.>
The two of them could of course transcribe their backgrounds just like everybody else. The other survivor's would just be an older recording from when that character joined up. We still need to figure when the boss and his second in command met and stuff. The Boss's would be kept on File, which would basically be the profile thread.

They aren't that complex, really, appearance data, a holotape recording for personality and background, and then weapons and equipment. I imagine the boss would be the type to singlehandedly rip an enemy like that a new asshole. "Don't. Fuck. With. My. Team!" He could be more hotheaded of the two leaders too if you prefer that, but I imagine he would have his quirks, falling asleep when he should be working, ect.

Also, if we use pictures, would you have any suggestions for folks as to what kind of pics to use? I may just end up describing Boss in detail.

I imagine that The Boss's HQ would be underground somewhere relatively safe, somewhere outside the NYC area, but far enough to get there without much fuss (Mehbe about half a day away). The base itself would be a bunker underground with a semi-hidden entrance, finding it could possibly be one of the challenges for newcomers. I was thinking something like an old Military outpost or fallout shelter could be re-purposed for such a use. The town above would be ruined of course, possibly occupied or totally deserted, there the little obstacle course that the Boss has set up, as well as some other features would rest, their old tech (May he rest in peace... ((Maybe?))) would perhaps have been building things in his spare time. The bunker would have an entrance, a small armory for the group's weapons, bunks that have been salvaged from the town above in a quarters area, The Boss's office, a living area, maybe even a rec room or other essentials? The characters can personalize the areas inside and out if they want to, to satisify their tastes.

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • Picture wise. . . .I can cheat because I have the game and I can just take a screen of my character to use. Maybe I could throw together a character for everyone in my game? Either that or everyone could find some fitting pictures? Some post apocalyptic/steam punk/desert rover-ish? Just about anything of the same genre would work I think.

You going that route with the bossman works. I was just working on a PM to send you about my character and having a boss like that works. He can handle the heavy business type, my character will handle everything else. Though bossdude is gonna get a foot to the head every now and then for slacking off. And yeah. . .your character rips, mine shoots, and in the end, there are a lot of assholes where they shouldn't be. Though I'd think it funnier if they were both complete opposites when it comes to management, but heart, both of them were equally hot headed. Just in different ways. You character can do the explosion and my character can implode. Do crazy things to people in ways they wouldn't expect it instead of unleashing the hulk on them.

Hmm. . .the base should definitely be secluded, but I don't think it should be too far away from the city. Just very, very, very well hidden. I like the idea of finding the base being a challenge. And the idea of there being an obstacle course, and I think that it being partially occupied would add to the complication of finding the base. Especially if everyone was told to give anyone trying to find them a hard time unless they're the BoS or Talon. Talon only a factor there so they don't give people killed. And I like the other ideas that you have for the area.[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

XD
You can cheat huh? That would actually be pretty cool really, if of course you have the tools to make people's characters the way they want them.
So far all I can say about the boss is that he has shorter, grey hair, tall, and wears a painted-black suit Talon officer armor, (Which is like Talon armor but with a long coat covering most of it, save for the shoulders, which the armor is over the coat's shoulders) The getup was inspired by the NCR ranger look from vegas, I admit. XD.
I meant like anime versus Photograph

Basically I am portraying him as the professional soldier stuck with a desk job (which he pretty much is when the group isn't on missions, he gets bored when not out adventuring and tends to slack off as a result, he can handle troops and strategy and action very well, just numbers and letters aren't his thing. Of course your character can keep him in line. He was a Talon, and that part of him and his past is still floating around in his mind, he has the ability to be downright nasty and really scary if that part of him is brought out by pressing the right buttons, Otherwise he would be pretty laid back, charming, charismatic, ect, of course with a snarky sense of humor.. We can talk more about that in private.

Anything more you want to see in the base or the setting? Boss would want to avoid Talon at this state, having them find out where he is means that it would be assaulted, he probably would have had to move a couple times to avoid them too.

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • I might actually be able to recreate the look, gas mask/glowy eyed and all. Let me actually run into some Talon fools and loot their corpses and I'm sure I can get mostly everything I need from them right then and there.

That is what I thought you were asking about. Anime wise, or style wise, I'd definitely take a look at some of Masamune Shirow's works. Especially from the old-school Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed. The manga's Battle Angel Alita, Agharta, Eden, Jo Jo's Bizzare Adventure Steel Ball Run, Hokuto no Ken. Steel Ball Run might be a little. . .wild in the style, but it's New York. I'm sure the weird fashion trends would continue in some way. I can't think of any other similar titles off the top of my head right now, but I know all of those series would definitely have something that people could use. I can't think of a lot of people who do a retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic style though. Most tend to be modern or more advanced.

The situation with Talon is kinda sticky. It should definitely be something that's saved for a bit later on. If they do show up while they are. . .short on personnel. . .well. . .That would just be a bad thing. A very bad thing. Then again, you can't have the normal folk just getting killed off by the Talon people for giving them a hard time. And people giving them a hard time would definitely get them dead.

Our characters just work together. Funny how that turned out. XD[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

^.^

NYC was sealed off and forgotten for two centuries, Not sure how relevant the pre-war fashion would be.
I basically know what my character should look like, and I can describe him fairly well. I may just settle at that, though I have some reference images.

Yeah, isn't that neat? I am working on the PM right now.

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • I find it rather funny how perfectly the characters are going to work with one another. We didn't really even have to coordinate anything. They'll probably drive one another crazy with their quirks. XD

Meh. . .Fallout has a very distinct look and feel too it. I'd say just find something that fits a post-apocalyptic/steam-punkish look and go with it. Trying to find a perfect or exact match is gonna be rather difficult. Now to drag Vali back and interrogate her until we can get some information out of her about her thoughts on a character/role. I mean. . .get some input from Vali on her thought's and such. . . >>

And get another person or two. It is the weekend. . .so, we'll see how the week ends up going. I'm pretty sure we'll be in a good position to green light things soon enough.[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

Yeah, another person or two would be great, but hey, if not all is not lost, people can be recruited as we go too, perhaps picked up by the group. That or the roles could be filled by npcs if we lack people. I would much prefer having people join of course. ^.^

Hmeh, I mostly gave up on that, I have a Template pic for another character, but that is about it.

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • We'll just wait and see what ends up happening~

I've got a fairly good feeling about this though. And well. . .suggestions are there for people who need them. Just in case they're at a lass as to what kind of pictures to look up/find for characters and the like.[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

*Nodnod*

I think we almost have everything figured out, just need people. Earlier you mentioned you were trying to convince somebody to join? We could possibly reel in most people into Post-Apocalyptic settings pretty easily, mehbe get them into fallout too. ^.^

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • [ Yay 1000 posts~ ][/list:u]
    • That's a no go man. But it's cool, I'm sure we'll find another person soon enough.
Still wanting to hear something from Vali though. At least like. . .a position of interest or something.[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

Yay! Another person. ^.^

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

Oh! I didn't see this!

I'd love to join this. D: Now I need to think of a character...

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • And another person? Sweet.

For now we just have the Boss, the Lt, and the Medic/Cook covered. Not sure what our lurking friend wanted, so. . .I'm guessing everything else is open at the moment. Which type of character would you be most interested in playing?[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

I'm tempted by the Scout, since I am never much for playing the big badasses. :p

Also, might note that I am a person who spent three hours lost in Vault 101. >.>

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • Well, not everyone can be a big bad ass. Scout's are awesome though. Your character will have a high stealth skill too, so you won't be in too much trouble that often. I'd probably go with small guns and have your character carry a pistol and a shotgun with them. That'd give you enough wiggle room to do a lot of damage, especially if you can sneak up on someone. Or you could go with explosives and traps/pants explode people. XDDD

    That's alright, I'm sure there'll be plenty more direction than that here in the RP. ^_^;;

And I just finished up in the super duper mart. Yay for picking off Raiders!
Though. . .I do need to find a more accurate sniper rifle in my game here. One that has more than one round per use anyway. >>[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

I would like to be the engineer if no one has yet to take it from me.

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • No one has said anything about it yet.
This leaves just the Tech and the Tank open now.

I'm surprised at how fast the roles here started filling up but. . .this is definitely awesome~[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

So....I stealz the role of tank...now....before someone takes it. >.>

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • Which leaves only the tech open.
Our team is almost complete now~
Middie's gonna be a very happy person when he gets back on.[/list:u]

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

^.^
I most certainly am.

My little story is coming to life. Yay-ness!
I will start work on an OOC thread very soon.

I am glad we have all the important roles (Potentially?) filled, plus by some of my favorite people here!

Now, I will get to coding the profile and stuff, once I am done with the stuff I need to do (I have relatives coming up from california, and a test to do tonight)

Re: Fallout: A post Apocalyptic Roleplay (Interest/Planning)

  • No need to make another thread man, you can just re-title this as the OOC thread, update the first post with the Ad-like plot summary, and you have the rules and such in place. . .It's pretty much fine as it man.
Pretty much the only thing we don't have is a tech. Which. . .pretty much anyone could fill in for if we don't have one soon.[/list:u]
