Mugen (1×1 w/ Jikkah)

Himari hid her face, the praise seeming to fluster her. It didn’t take very long for the girl to fall asleep clinging to Yuko, cheeks stained with tears.

She sighed softly and moved carefully to lay with her, keeping her close and petting her hair slowly. She had to get them out of here now. If only she knew what happened to her nichirin blade.

The broken blade had been wrapped in Yuko’s slayer uniform, buried behind the main building of the shrine. Without her blade she could do little against Sanemi- but the slayer-turned-demon had his own nichirin blade, now slung across his back, but rarely needed.

If there was a way she could get it, she could free Sanemi from his curse. Deep down, that's all she wanted; she wanted him to be free.

Sanemi returned late the next day, the sun already having been down for hours. Himari hid her face from Sanemi when he entered the room, moving toward Yuko. “How’s the brat adjusting?”

"Don't talk about her like that." Yuko said firmly, making sure Himari was hidden as best as she could against her, "You were kind enough to bring her for me, treat her with respect."

Sanemi was so taken aback by her response, he could only nod slightly, turning his head away as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Right, sorry..” Another flash of the old Sanemi showed its head, it almost would have been endearing had it not been for the situation at hand. “How’s the kid doing..?”

There had to be some hope for him.
"She's fine..." Her voice softened, glad that the risk she took didn't end poorly, "We're both hungry, though...I don't mean to be a bother to you so much, Sanemi.."

He seemed rather placid as of late, his eyes soft when he looked at her. “I’ll see what I can get.. There’s a kitchen here.” He said, meaning the temple they were hiding at.

She nodded, "We'll work with whatever you can find...thank you so much, Nemi..." There had to be a way for her to get to his blade, if she could just get to it, she could free all of them.

He gave a nod, glancing at Himari before leaving to make food for the two. He found pickled fish and vegetables, plenty of dry rice in storage. Things like this smelled bland to him now, only blood satiated him.
He prepared rice and plated the fish and vegetables- a strange sight to behold for sure, a demon cooking a meal. Perhaps he would have to start letting Yuko cook her own meals, and sooner or later he would need to chain the child too.

Yuko sat with Himari, petting her hair slowly to keep her calm as she sat in thought. Maybe if she slept with him? She blushed softly; she would have to convince him to go somewhere where Himari wouldn't witness it. That would be hard.

Sanemi returned after some time, carrying two trays of food and setting them out for the two. He retreated a bit and sat down so he could spend some time with the two. “Sorry if it’s simple, they mostly had stored goods..” He apologized.

Yuko let Himari go gently to bring the trays closer.
"No, it looks great." She smiled at him - like she used to - and took her bowl of rice first, "Thank you so much.."

Himari peeked around Yuko to look at the food, stomach rumbling from hunger. It was clear she wanted to eat, but she looked anxiously from Sanemi, to Yuko, not daring to move without permission.

Yuko looked to her and nodded, "It's ok...he won't hurt you...he just likes watching, make sure we eat it all...I won't let him hurt you.."

It took another long look at the meaty pieces of fish for her to be enticed to move closer to the table. Vegetables completely ignored, the young girl went straight for the fish first, starving at this point. She scarfed down the fish quickly, keeping her gaze anywhere but Sanemi, who was watching the girl closely, eyes a mixture of soft and curious.

Yuko watched him, a bit saddened by the scene. Maybe he was honestly just lonely - they lost Genya after all, and he didn't go looking for other slayers. Why did she feel so awful for him? Because it was Sanemi? She didn't know.

Sanemi was rather content to just watch the two eat, finally looking back to Yuko. “I was thinking about letting you have time in the pitching during the day.. maybe it could give you something to do.”

She blinked, taking a moment to register his words, before smiling at him, "Thank you, Nemi...it gets a little dull waiting for you, so I appreciate the enrichment.."

He nodded, liking how she smiled at him. Maybe he could live like this- he would definitely need to improve Yuko’s living conditions, but that wouldn’t be an issue. He had secured a manor of his own, and it was as secluded as it got. Out there was nothing but pine trees for miles, and it was big enough to house the three of them comfortably. “Of course, Yu..”

He nodded, standing and moving to clear the trays to avoid attracting rats. “I’ll be moving you two when night comes- I found us a real place. Rest up for now.”
