Ren gave a soft sigh, casting his gaze down to the floor, a faint scowl on his face. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out, I’ll see what I can do.”
Yukimura had been recovering slowly, his body long healed, but his mind left fractured. His time spent with Matsunaga didn’t treat him well, and he would still see hallucinations of Akihime. Some nights he would be inconsolable, others he was almost completely normal- almost.
Akihime did her best to help him, but ultimately didn't really know how to help. But she tried, and some days she managed.
She made sure he ate and moved to sit with him, "How are you feeling today, Yukimura...?"
The cravings were slowly dying off, but the hallucinations seemed to be there to stay. Medicating him was the only way to keep Yukimura from having episodes, keeping him drowsy and slow. He flinched slightly at Akihime’s voice, but when he saw she wasn’t covered in blood, he calmed down a bit. “The medication is making me tired.. but no hallucinations today..”
She smiled softly and carefully reached to hold his hand, "That's good...I'm glad they're working." She said gently, "I was thinking...we should try to rebuild a little...find the family, make sure everyone is safe. Try and find Sasuke.."
Yukimura took her hand, almost like he was grateful to do so, lacing his fingers with hers. “You said you handed him off to a friend… did he end up surviving..?”
She smiled more and nodded, "Yeah...I heard he was well enough to head out on his own. Maybe Sasuke is looking for us, too?" She offered, "I think it would benefit you to see him alive and well."
The idea of going out in public made Yukimura’s skin crawl, but he knew he had to eventually. “We should make a plan before heading out- it’s likely we’re still being looked for.”
She nodded, watching him as he went through the phone, "I don't expect him to answer right away, but we should exhaust all our options as safely as possible.."
Yukimura had to make a new account in the forums, his old one long since deleted. Once in, he made a post, seemingly a generic open ended question meant to spark discussion, but hidden within was an old passphrase. It was one between Yukimura and Sasuke, an old one they hadn’t used since it had just been the two of them.
Akihime sat with him quietly, playing with his fingers gently, "I'm sure once he spots it, he'll xome crawling out of the woodwork.." She said playfully.
Would Sasuke even want to see him at this point? So many had been killed, and the ones that made it out were in the wind. Yukimura had gutted their family and only managed to find a few that would even speak to him. “Let’s hope so.” He nodded.
There would be nothing for days, and Akihime thought that maybe it was too long of a shot to hope Sasuke would be stalking his forums again.
Yukimura sat waiting for the food Akihime made him, nothing but the soft ringing in his ears, before his phone lit up amd buzzed gently. It was a notification from his forum post. It was Sasuke.
Yukimura practically all but dove onto his phone, flipping it open and quickly clicking the shortcut to the forum to read the message, heart thumping in his chest. “Akihime! I’ve got a response!” He called out to her.
"Really?!" She clambered out into the room and moved to his side. The account that replied was definitely Sasuke, and his post was a simple response to the question Yukimura made with the hidden passphrase of his own before a private DM appeared. "Glad to see you didn't buy the farm, dana."
Yukimura held the phone out a bit so Akihime could see as he typed out his message, a bit slow as he always struggled a bit texting. His hands trembled with excitement though. “Right back at you. Are you in any danger? Are you being followed?”
"As far as I can tell, no one knows I'm still kickin. Tryna keep it that way. What about you? You safe? Doves still got Akihime?"
"God, he's actually worried about me." Akihime's voice shook as she struggled not to cry; so overwhelmed with joy to know Sasuke was alright.
