Kaguya wasn’t sure if the voice was calling out to her or not, stopping slowly turning to see who was falling out to her, wiping tears from her dirty face. “Do you mean me..?”
It had been so long since she had heard someone say such things, to make her an offering. She gave a sad smile, crouching down with a wince to take the buns. “Thank you, I’ll be sure to enjoy them all.”
Kaguya nodded. “That’s what I’m trying to do.” She said, then stood and turned to leave. She had to keep going, had to find people who would be willing to help her. She stumbled through the dark forest in silence, only stopping and taking refuge under a tree to eat when her hunger pangs got to be too much.
Kaguya scarfed down all the meat buns the girl had given her, stomach finally full for once. She took a moment to rest before moving further into the forest, doing her best to avoid the main path.
Once again she found somewhere relatively covered to sleep, this time she crawled under a bush and curled up. The ground was far from comfortable, but at least she could let her body rest.
Sleeping the day away didn't seem smart, but it was so nice to just rest. When she was traveling again, it was night, and hard to see, but there had to be someone who could help her.
Kaguya’s body hurt with each step, but she kept moving, looking for any signs of humans. Would humans not help her? Did she really look so strange? Tears burned her eyes, throat tightening- she had no way to change anything about how she looked, it was simply how she was born.
She turned sharply, clutching her hand to her chest, feeling her breath catch in her throat. Had he caught up so quickly? She looked around for any sight of the man, but couldn't see much of anything if he was also traveling without a lantern.
She was gripped by fear, eyes widening and heart racing. It wasn’t Hakaku, but a demon, which posed its own dangers. She didn’t notice how hard she was gripping her undergarments, the ragged breathing or the cold sweat she had broken out into.
“D-Douma..!” She was finally able to choke out his name, watching the demon closely. “I belong to Douma..!” Was the demon really going to help her? Would he even know Douma’s name? “I need you to return me to him..!”
“I wouldn’t know his name otherwise..!” She tried to put bravado behind her voice, taking a step closer. “Return me to him at once..!” She ordered, hoping he wouldn’t kill her there for ordering him around.
It made Kaguya’s heart ache at the news that Douma did indeed miss her, feeling her eyes watering again. She moved forward, nodding. “We need to hurry, I escaped the slayer that took me, but he’s probably still looking for me.”
"A slayer? Alright, we should get goin." He said and extended his hand to take hers. Only his hand was severed from the wrist. "Huh??"
"And just where do you think you're going?" Hakaku asked.
Fear shot through Kaguya, eyes widening and her hope slipping away. “No!” She couldn’t see him yet, looking around in panic. How had he caught up so quickly? She had worked so hard to avoid any pathways.
"Thought you could sneak away from me, huh? I'm not an idiot, I know how to track." Hakaku said. The demon looked terrified before running away, only to trip when his head fell from his shoulders.
