from the edge (1x1 w/DarkMudkip)

“You’re in no such place to make demands, slayer boy!” The demon attacked again, pushing him back away from Kaguya who looked horrified. Now that Douma’s identity had been confirmed, she would just be used as bait. Her heart pounded in her chest as she looked behind her at the empty expanse that opened up in the ground, then back at Hakaku who was still fighting the demon. Standing slowly before taking a step backward, getting closer to the edge. She had no choice, she couldn’t allow herself to become leverage against Douma.

Kaguya stared back at him, unable to see his expression, but was able to tell he was angry by the sound of his voice. She hesitated before taking another step back, foot touching nothing as she disappeared over the cliff side without a sound. He still had the demon to take care of, would he even make it in time to catch her? No, she’d hit the ground before he could get to her, and his lead would die.

He expected to find her broken body at the bottom of the cliff, brains splattered on the rocks, but he found no such thing. Beneath was a deep river, one that snaked down the mountain and away from their destination. Had she known about the river beneath them? Regardless, he couldn’t see any sign of her in the waters below, the water having swallowed her up.

Kaguya couldn’t swim, she had never learned, so flailing wildly was her only option to keeping from drowning. The rapids pushed her under, battered her around and disoriented her, but every now and again she would find her head above water, where she would take in a deep breath before being plunged back under. She had no way to control where she was going, no way to try and get to the bank, glad she hadn’t missed her mark and hit the riverbank instead, but now she might actually drown.

She didn't know how long the river had been pushing her along, but finally after what felt like forever of being jostled and dashed against the rocks, she was tossed onto a shoreline.

Kaguya crawled weakly onto the rocks, desperate to not get pulled back into the water, gasping and coughing up water. She had no idea how far she had been taken, nor where she was, but she couldn’t stop. She took a moment to catch her breath before crawling to her feet, drawing in a sharp breath at the pain in her ankle. It didn’t look broken, but it was swollen and painful, and she had several cuts on her arms and legs from being tossed around in the water. She forced herself through the pain, scrambling up the bank and into the woods again as to not be caught. She limped as fast as she could go, pulling at the ropes with her teeth to no avail, heading in any direction that felt would take her away from Hakaku. It was still nighttime, making navigation hard, but she decided to stick to the thicker brush and wooded areas, hoping to lose her captor.

Thankfully, the water masked her scent for now so the demons wouldn't find her right away. It would give her enough time to hide somewhere.

Kaguya went for as long as she could, making sure she did everything she knew how to not leave any traces of herself, which wasn’t much. She went until she saw sunlight, and once it was light enough, she looked for somewhere to hide. She crawled into the small space of a hollow tree stump, not caring if she got more scraped up doing so. She would rest for a bit before heading out again.

She didn't realize how long she had slept, when she opened her eyes it was close to sun down. She didn't realize how tired she truly was.

Her whole body hurt, but if she wanted to try and get away, she had to keep going. If she was lucky, she would find a town, or even someone traveling- and her very last option, one that terrified her would be if she came across a demon. Douma’s name seemed to hold some kind of weight, so maybe if she used his name, they would return her to him. She set out again, body stiff and achy as she limped through the undergrowth.

She couldn’t stop, had to keep moving otherwise Hakaku was sure to find her. No matter how hungry or thirsty she was she couldn’t stop. The brush tore at her arms and legs, a few twigs caught in her hair, which was partially down and tangled badly, squinting to try and see any kind of light source a town or city would give off.

Kaguya pushed herself to go faster, unable to see what was creating the light, but not caring. It meant someone was there, and they might be able to help her.

Kaguya felt tears in her eyes as she limped quickly toward the house. She knocked in the door, leaning against the frame to steady herself. “Please, I need help, is someone in there that can help me..?” She called out.

“Please help me..! A man kidnapped me from my home and has been hurting me, I just want to go back home..!” She felt so much relief that someone was home, wanting to collapse to her knees right there.

She was a mess, covered in scrapes and bruises, and barely clothed. Tears fell down her cheeks and she nodded. “Yes, I don’t even know how far he’s taken me- h-how far to Tokyo..?”

She felt her heart sink and she shook her head. “Please, I’m not a demon..!” She begged at his door, but it was no use. She stumbled to the next house, begging for help from them as well.

One by one, they turned her away, scared by her pointed ears and pale skin and off putting eyes. They turned out their lights, hoping any other demons would think no one was home.

Kaguya stood in disbelief, not sure what to do; was she truly that horrifying looking? She turned numbly and limped through town, figuring she could try the next town.
