Shiva the Cat's Super Awesome Soundtrack (Comments Welcome!)

Oh man despite all the crazy that has been January 2021, I am finally caught up with posts!

Now this is when Xmas Break Shiva would have said "Bump your RT! Start something new!" But 2021 Shiva is not gonna play like that. Some of my current partners have been patient enough to wait two weeks or more for a reply (God love y'all, you folks are amazing) and I am not going to make that a new thing this year, not when I can significantly decrease those wait times by just keeping my shit together and actually replying as soon (as possible) as I get a new post.

In other news, sounds like my dad is going to recover 100% from Covid, which is awesome, but stuff like that just highlights the stresses of being super far away from your fam during times like this. I'm cautiously optimistic about finally getting a new car next month--finances are looking better, but my husband's job hasn't been going well and layoffs are constantly at the back of mind. Thankfully he's got friends in the video game industry who are opening some doors for him, so I think if we can just keep it together until spring we're gonna be fine. And if all goes really well, I'm planning a 3-week trip back east to see everyone around my birthday in March--working remotely, staying strictly within my family "pod," and after my parents and sister (a teacher) have been vaccinated. Crossing my fingers everything works out.

In the meantime, I totally forgot Caravan Palace is a thing and that I actually really enjoy them. Let's hope this is enough to stop me from going out looking for a new 1920s plot for now.

Today I learned how to make candles, and while I almost burned my house down in the process (why the FUCK you would make the handle on your melting pot out of very meltable plastic) and also my hands now smell like lemon, I think I have a new hobby!

I may post pics here when I have one that's a little more photo-worthy (not super happy with the dye job I did, but I think I have an idea of how to do it better next time), but in the meantime I'm going to be very busy googling the best oil blends to make signature scents. You can also bet your ass I will be creating candles for my longest term, most favorite RP characters. Although I have a gut feeling that I'm gonna turn into one of those women who spends way too much money on essential oils. At least I don't expect them to cure cancer though.

Also here's some hipster music, because being crafty puts me in this mindset.

I forget, have I posted any White Lies songs on here?

I love this song so much. This album as a whole isn't as good as Big TV, but this is def one of those songs where when I heard it the first time, I had to play it like five more times in a row because it's that good. Still super mad these guys almost never tour the US though, and when they do it's only the coast.

Come play Red Rocks, you cowards. I'll gladly shill like 300 bucks to go see you when Corona is over.

Oh man, we are so effing close to being done with February. It might be the shortest month, but it's also my least favorite, on account of most of the really bad things that have happened in my life have always occurred in February, because life do be that way sometimes.

March is a MUCH better month, and not only because it's my birthday at the end (I like wine and jewelry, for all y'all wanting to buy me presents 😜). You might still get those bonkers snowstorms during the month of course, but I've always felt there's a sense of optimism in it. And especially where I live, you're just as likely to get an 80 degree day as an 8 degree one, which means pre-tourist season hiking for me!

Btw, this is probably a good time for me to mention that if I ever completely disappear from this site, I probably fell off a mountain. Oh how many are the curses of wanderlust paired with clumsiness...

Anyway, feeling good today, gonna post my favorite song from my favorite Brian Fallon solo album.

Aaaaaaaah it's SO nice outside today you guys. Summer is definitely coming.

This year I'm gonna do things differently. Once my car gets in (btw I'm finally getting a new car and you have no idea how excited I am about that) I'm gonna get my ass up at the crack of dawn to do some serious hikes. Or if I don't do that, I'm going to start going to parks just to sit in the grass and read. Maybe this will even be the year I finally use the community pool that I pay for with my HOA fees every year yet have never actually used once in the five years--holy shit it's been five years--that we've lived in our house. Either way though, I'm just excited to finally get out of the house on a regular basis after a whole year of being locked up. And maybe I'll finally get around to finishing the Outlander books.

In the meantime, let's have some summer music!

Do y'all ever get "The Tingle" when you hear a new song for the first time? For me it's this really significant feeling in my chest and throat whenever something resonates with me just right. It could be the melody or instrumentation it that causes it, or the lyrics, or both, but honestly it's just one of the best feelings in the world.

I remember the first time I stumbled upon Joe Pug back on last.fm (lol remember last.fm you guys?) his song Nation of Heat definitely gave me that feeling, but that was...jesus, twelve years ago?

Anyways, he has a new EP out today, and this song definitely gave me The Tingle.

I needed a laugh today, and then I remembered Gregorian exists, so I pulled them up on Spotify and was skipping through all their delightfully dramatic covers of songs that absolutely do not need Gregorian Chant covers, but then this one came up and it honestly kind of snaps.

Sorry I made fun of you, Gregorian.

I'm grateful to be at a point in my career where I can take days off work just because I feel like it with relatively short notice (in case you weren't aware, today is Shiva's Birthday Eve, which should be a national holiday for everyone tbh).

I'm also grateful to be at a point where I FINALLY GOT THE NEW CAR YOU GUYS!!! Of course, it is about to snow again so I'm not taking it anywhere super exciting this weekend, but at least now I run zero chance of getting stuck in the grocery store parking lot for the 846th time. I'm also happy that the emissions on it are MUCH better and it's got fancy things like power locks, power windows, and cruise control (my old car so so basic you guys you have no idea).

Still, there was some nostalgia for me as I traded in the old girl. I got my 2010 Yaris on my 21st birthday and immediately took it on a road trip to Niagara Falls and Gettysburg. Years later I packed my entire life into that teeny little car and moved across the country to start fresh, and it got me through a few visits back home to visit my old friends and family. Lots of people kissed in that car, lots of songs sung, lots of Starbucks devoured...but I'm ready for something new.

In the meantime, gonna blare some of this while driving around my neighborhood purely because I can and I'm a weirdo.

Small side note: Posts may be delayed this weekend on account of I am partying so hard tomorrow. I took Monday off as well though so at the very least I'll get caught up then, if not sooner.
