"I know. I'm just teasing."sam smiled at the other tilting his head a little. "Oh...uh. yea. That's the idiot hunters fault. Made a deal with the crossroads....wanted something to study, and prove he wasn't insane."bailey sighed a little."when he started experimenting, was when the sasquatch started to hurt them back."bailey sighed a little. "...you look old."she said when she realized he was watching her, likely wondering what she saw before smiling slightly as sam snickered at the order to shut up. "...you are not that cool, oil slick."she said rolling her eyes as she sipped her drink, ignoring theadvice and having every intent of leaving as soon as she could trust her legs. Sam snorted at his mates drawing ignoring dean's glare as he agreed and had to think about what to draw next, even if he was mentally laughing at the nicknames and curiousat their existence

"Seriously!? the rat bastard experimented on them?!" Dean demanded. he had a soft heart for the timid, gentle Sasquatch who, more often than not, shielded people lost in the cold, cold snow. they where kind and gentle and they had once shielded Dean from a drunken John Winchester. "that bastard... we'll have to go out and see if we can't help the poor things." Dean admitted before smiling t her. "Dying and saving the world does that." he admitted. "the stress is killing me." he admitted. "hey! hey! i am the coolest shit you'll ever meet!" he scoffed as he headed to the fridge and yanked out Sam's lunch and handed it to her. "here, if your going to stay up. eat. you need the food, you lost a lot of blood." he admitted, shaking his head at Sam and sighed a little, watching her. "John's dead, by the way..." he didn't know, but she already knew that. Bobby had told her the very day it happened. Dean was telling her for the same reason Bobby had. closure. he was unaware of Sam's mate drawing a Wolf and a fox fighting on his left arm, before Wolf and Fox ended up humping on the right arm. perfect description really.

"Yes he did. And don't worry. Once I realized that I let the hounds have him. And sent the sasquatches on their way. We couldn't talk to each other, but I think I made them understand to head back to the mountains... it was on my way back from that I ran into lucjfer..."she said before frowning at him a little."yea I'm sure it does...and you definitely are not. You're brother seems to be the cool one." "Damn straight."sam snickered a little. Frowning a little as she took the food but not protesting the order as she started to eat."I know. I heard. I'm sorry."she tilted her head a little. As abusive as he was, she knew dean loved him. Grinning at the drawing he drew a snuggling wolf and fox next to the others sam sighed a little knowing things were going to be interesting. "Tha KS dean." Bailey said as she stood carefully. "Hey.hey you sit dosn."sam said looking concerned

"yeah they can't really vocalize all that well." Dean admitted. "but they love peanut butter." he admitted with a smile. "yeah, Lucifer... he's stalking Sam really but he doesn't want Micheal to have a real shot before him, so he's taking out anyone he can that's close to me. i guess he thought you would be a great way to lure me and Sam out. which worked, but that's okay. it doesn't actually matter if dear old Lucy knows where we are." he admitted, waving off her worry before it could even start. "My brother is a dweeb you have no idea." he admitted, smirking a little. "he's all computers and books, totally boring." he admitted. "his mate is cooler than him and the dude paints for a living." he admitted. "...i'm not." he admitted softly. "he was... worse, after you left." he admitted, knowing shed understand but Sam wouldn't. "I just... didn't know... one of the few things i ever really regretted, was not eaving with you." he admitted softly, smiling at her, looking as calm as he always did, but his eyes hed al the pain he'd never shown because he couldn't hide it from her. never from her, even if he wanted to. he glared at Sam again, Sam's soul mate drawing a picture of the wolf and the fox snuggling on a car before drawing a separated yin yang symbol. saying that if Dean had let her touch baby they had to be soul mates. hen she stood up, Dean waved Sam off. he wasn't too worried about her leaving very far. she was too weak and exhausted.

"I'll have to remember that."she smiled a little before frowning at the idea that they were being stalked. Wincing a little as she realized she'd been used to drag them out."sorry...." "like dean said, it really doesn't matter."sam said glancing up with a small smile."and I am not a dweeb." "If he's as bad about them, as you are about baby I can believe he's a dweeb."bailey smiled slightly. Wincing at the idea of John winchester being worse."...sorry."she muttered shuddering a little at the idea. Taring at him before looking away, not able to handle the pain in that look. Sam smiled a little as he doodled, not really drawing anything, not about to provoke dean more then he already had even as he watched bailey stubbornly make her way to the door even if she was swaying on her feet. The fact she made it all the way out to her car with out collapsing was a feat in itself, leaning against it a little as she stared at baby for a long moment, caught up in the last memory she had of the car, of tangled limbs and cool metal against her back. Trembling as she pulled her car door open and collapsed into the drivers seat, getting ready to go even if she couldn't raise her car keys up just yet.pulling the door closed with a tired growl when she saw dean walking out behind her

"It's seriously not a problem. i'm just really tired of people using you as Bait." he grumbled before he smiled at her. "Oh, he's worse." Dean admitted. "i let him sit in Baby, he wont let me touch his computer at all." he admitted. "show an Angel some porn and get a virus one time. i mean really, he was totally over reacting." he huffed before he shook his head. "it wasn't your fault. i didn't know any better." he admitted before watching her leave and headed after her and he moved over to her, looking at the Mustang with an oddly covetous look and he moved over to the door of the car, smiling ever so charmingly at her. "can i give her a look over? you can't have had much time to give her the care she needs if you've been looking into a crossroads demon right?" he asked, looking quite eager to get under the mustangs hood.

"Believe me, me to."she said with a slight smile."...wow."she said before staring at him snoeting."well, considering what you do with your dick, it's probably not the first virus youvery gotten."she said snide ly smirking at sams choked laugh.glaring up at him as he moved over to the door, he'd be able to see the moment she consideed cold cock ing him in the dick with the door before sighing, rolling down the window to look at him."about as much time as you've spent under baby's hood....is that a oil stain I see under her?"she growled before sighing. She'd always been a suckered for him working on cars."but if you want, go ahead."

"hey! i'll have you know i have never had an STD!" he protested. "and that ONE time doesn't count!" he protested. "because i wasn't a willing partner and she was scary as fuck!" Sam wouldn't know what he was talking about, but she would. it was shortly after he'd went back to John and it was his turn to be the bait and he'd ended up being kidnapped by a succubus who was quit intent on fucking Dean dead and he had not enjoyed it very much. Bobby had ended up telling her because he was the one wh had stitched the claw marks on his back shut and helped talk him through the shock of being raped when he was pretty sure boys weren't supposed to be able to be raped by women. he'd learned better that day. it had only been a month after she left, and that was when Dean started realizing that John's actions could no longer be explained away. he'd needed a huge dose of penicillin to clear up the STD the Succubus had given him. thank god it was one of the kind that could be cleared up. he cringed and moved away from the door when he realized he had opened himself up to a very painful hit. "what!?" he shreiked, moving over to Baby to check before blinking. "ah... no.... it's not from Baby." he informed her, following the trail. "it's from yours...." he informed her, shimmying under the car. "...easy fix! the Oil Line just has a puncture." he assured her. "i can fix that no problem. you need an oil change too though, want me to take care of that before you leave?" he offered her, crawling back out from under her car, oil already slicking his hair back as he moved to Baby's trunk and grabbed the stuff to work on her car. "You're darling have a name by the way? she's beautiful." he admitted, looking at the gorgeous car.

"...I know."bailey smiled slightly as she looked at him and ignored sams very curious look at his brother. If dean wnated him to know, he'd tell him. Bailey smirked a little when she saw the other realize what she'd considered doing, sighing softly as she closed her eyes. "...dammit."she winced as she realized something had happened to her car while she wasnt looking. Damn she'd have to get it fixed before she could leave. Snorting slightly at the sight of his hair already slicked in some places and sticking up in others. "...junior. she's junior."bailey said as she shifted, curling up in the seat, to exhausted to resist the old habits of curling up in the Seay and watching him worn when he wasn't making her help hI'm out.

Dean nodded. "as long as you know." he huffed, sulking before smirking at his brother as Sam's soul mate drew random pictures and then the all important words appeared. 'i'm graduating at the end of the month.' this was the first time Sam's sou mate had ever mentioned a date. meaning that he probobly wanted Sam there. 'Do you think if i listed an address, it would show up? i was hoping you'd be free to come?'

"yeah. looks like someone actually cut the line." Dean admitted. "probobly tht fucker Lucifer. he didn't want you taking off before he could catch you." he admitted, shaking his head. "he didn't do a very good job though." he admitted before grinning. "Junior is a boys name." he teased with a chuckle, patting the hood with his clean hand. "Junior is a brilliant name for such a handsome fellow." he admitted, popping her hood and winced. "yeah, that's what i thought. corroded battery. Demon's do weird things to batteries." he admitted. "don't worry, i can fix that, and you won't have to pipe out the money for a new battery." he promised. "looks like she's good other than that, you've taken good care of her." he admitted before grabbing his oil kit and slid under the car and started babbling away about nothing for a while, though that nothing ended up telling stories about his new exploits with Sam, starting with his first missions, and then on to when they found out Sam was sort of psychic, on and on until they met Cas, how they died a few times, how they'd killed for each other, everything that had happened. just babbling away because he was high as hell and couldn't stop talking, and because he wasn't ashamed to manipulate her that way.

Sam wentry still as he stared down at his hands, swallowing thickly.thinking about it, feeling nervous and upset as he considered what he was hearing."i...I don't know. It might come up...try and I'll try and come. If I'm free..."

"Damn. Shit."she cursed a litrle hating that someone had messed with her car."doesn't have to be. It's a girls name to."bailey made a face, not about to admit to what the real name was. Sighing softly as she watched him work.bgood...rhanks. Itll be good to not have to buy a new one."she sighed quietly, exhausted. "I've tried."she muttered not about to admit Bo by had had alot to do with that. Getting and helping her take care of it. Going to sleep as she listened wincing as her phone played carry on my wayward son. Pausing before answering."hello...ye...uh...yes. I know how they are....sorta sitting five feet from baby. They're alive. And still a pain in the ass."

'It's okay if you can't make it. i'd just really like to have you there.' appeared on Sam's hands. 'i have to go, class let out. here's the address, if you can come' there was a comma and then a period after a long space, which was an indication that the address had totally failed to appear. that often happened when the person on the other end forgot themselves and mentioned family, or themselves by name. turned out that addresses didn't work either. 'did it work?'

"yeah. he's learned not to mess with Baby at least but i guess he figured Junior was fair game. i'll let you hurt him if i catch him again." he promised before snorting. "i've never met a girl named Junior." he stated. "yeah Batteries are expensive." he agreed before pausing at the sound of the phone song. he had tht song on his too. it was set to Bobby's number before blinking a little as he crawled out from under her car and watched her intently. there was only one person he knew who would be asking after their health. Ellen and Jo would just call them and Lisa too. only Bobby would be checking on on them in this super roundabout way. Bobby was also the only person likely to know that Dean's soul mate was Bailey. fuck, fuck, fuck.

‘I’ll try to make it.’Sam promised before frowning, sighing softly as she looked down at the comma, making a face. ‘No, it didn’t. I’m sorry.”

“Ah. I’d like that. Junior isn’t messed with. She’s home.”Bailey muttered, much like the boys, she spent her whole life in her car, even more then she stayed in motels, she stayed here. “that’s cause you’re a heathen, and anti-social.”Bailey growled, not about to admit that it was really baby jr. Not just junior, and not even mentioning his sex life, considering how social he had to be. Bailey was ignoring the man she could almost feel watching her, flushing though under the attention as her memory supplied the last time that Dean had watched her this intently. She didn’t want to think about sex and winchester. That was just trouble. “...Yea. Well. I promise, I haven’t injured him....or Baby. Shut up.....Hold on.”She said sounding tired as she held the phone out the window. “Say hello Oil slick so he can stop thinking I killed you and stole the car.”

'...that's okay. i can't think of any other way to get in contact with you. trading phone numbers didn't work, names don't answer and neither do addresses. how the hell are we supposed to find each other with nothing to go on!? it's not fair!'. there was a pause and then. 'i'll talk to you later, i need ice-cream and Netflix'.

"Yeah. we'll make sure he knows to never ever touch your car again." he promised with a chuckle because he knew most people would be more concerned about themselves. not them. their cars where everything. "well. you might be right about that." he admitted with a grin. "i am sort of a heathen." he agreed before watching, amused as she talked on the phone, plucking it from her fingers and setting it to his ear. "Hey Bobby." he stated, wondering how much Bobby knew. did he know about Bailey being his mate? did he know about him being an alcoholic? did Bobby know about the pills? how much did Bbby know? how much was Dean going to have to cover his ass? "What's up man? we're not dead... ah, again if that's what your worried about."

“Dammit...I don’t know. We’ll figure it out.”Sam sighed softly, before nodding even if the other couldn’t see. “Kay. Later....if it makes you feel better. My brother found his by accident, and he’d already slept with her without knowing So maybe we’ll be lucky accidents to.”

“Good.”Bailey growled before snorting at his agreement, sighing softly as he took the phone, settling back into the seat, closing her eyes as she relaxed, settling back to go to sleep. “Yes. It was. 3 months, dean, three months. Got worried enough to track down Bailey’s ass to make sure she hadn’t gotten tagged.”Well, at least that said Bobby knew one secret, even if he wasn’t going to tell her. “And don’t worry, I’m not telling her. Just...whatever you three are up to, be careful. And call if you need help.”Bobby said sounding upset that it had taken them this long to get in contact, and it hadn’t even been to him. Smiling slightly as he could hear the soft snores coming from bailey as she crashed, exhausted.

instead of writhing an answer, his partner made a laughing face and then two stick figures having sec on the hood of a car. 'see you soon, i hope'.

"well i was busy..." Dean huffed. "Sam was supposed to call, i never remember." he admitted. "you could call us you know, everyone else just calls us." he grumbled. "well.. she did get tagged." he admitted with a sigh. "he used her as bait. found her pinned to the floor." he admitted, sounding enraged, well. as much as Dean could get anyway. "she's hurt pretty bad. keeping her here for a few days is going to be hell." he admitted. "thanks Bobby... that... that means a lot." he admitted, glad that Bobby would be keeping his secrete. for now, at least. "i'll call. i promise." he smiled at her, hung up the phone and found her blanket and covered her before finishing his work on Junior.

“Well, it seems you both are forgetful.”Bobby said gruffly before frowning at the phone. “Whatever, Dean.”He said because he usually didn’t call them because he was afraid he’d turn their attention away from a bigger hunt, messing with their focus. Bailey, he worried about it to, but she usually called him more then the boys, usually checking in every day or two, so he knew when it was safe to call her. “....well. That wasn’t the tag I thought she’d get.....son of a bitch.”Bobby cursed, the anger there was real, and pissed. As pissed as it was when dean or sam were hurt. Because bobby, who had no children as themselves, had adopted the three children that John winchester had left with soul deep scars. Even bailey, who had more hope for her soul mate still, with each passing year bobby could see her fading, becoming a shadow of what she was. “She’s a hunter dean. Make it a hunt she can’t not go on. Even if it means putting up with you.”The fact that bobby had even considered mentioning that it was going to be dean who bothered her the most, meant bailey wasn’t nearly as cold or recovered from what had happened between them as she pretended. “Good.”Bobby said as he hung up.

“....Dean?”Bailey stirred when she heard the hood of the car slam down, blinking slowly as she looked up at him, looking so much younger now that she wasn’t angry and hiding. frowning a little when she saw just how dark it had gotten out. she had past out for hours. damn, which meant he was right. she was in no condition to leave.

"Don't 'whatever me' like some snot nosed teen old man." Dean grumbled. "no. i was sure he'd never know about her." he admitted. "i thought if she never knew... if it was... if her hands remained blank no one could find her..." not the whole truth, but in later years, when he had thought about going to find her instead of picking up the knife again, he knew he would only be bringing the wrath of John Winchester down on any hope he had. and later, the wrath of Lucifer and Micheal. he had torn himself apart, trying to save his soul mate form himself, who killed anyone he loved, who hurt them, drove them away and ruined their lives. to find out it was Bailey, the one person he had ever truly loved deeper than his fear of John Winchester ran... he knew he'd pick up the knife for the first time in years because he couldn't get high, couldn't get drunk enough to fix this problem. only punishing himself would make him feel better for dragging her into his hellish life despite his best efforts. "i think i've already done that." he admitted. "i told her about everything that's been happening. sh won't want to eave the world saving to the men." he admitted with a smile. he didn't catch on to what Bobby was hinting at though. he never did.

"morning sleepy head." Dean said, taking a cloth and gently wiping the fingerprints off of Jr. there was grease, oil and bits of rust from the battery all over him. "she's all fixed up." he admitted with smile. "you ready for Dinner?" he asked her. "Sam ordered Pizza. i hope you still like sausage?" he asked her. "look. i know you hate me. i can't blame you. i h... i'd hate me too." he admitted, quickly covering his slip. she didn't know he hated himself. "stay and rest for a few days. you can't hunt in this condition."

“nothing is ever that easy. Just look after her now, Dean.”Bobby sighed a little well aware that this was going to be a mess, for them both. “Good. Good.”Bobby muttered glad that least even if he didn’t know how bailey was feeling, at least he could look after her physically.

“...Not morning, oil slick”She said making a face at the growing darkness, looking him over. For a brief moment, ten years worth of pain flickered through her eyes before nodding, looking away from him. As much as she liked him like this, sweaty and messy and looking like he should be joining a shared shower, she didn’t want to go there. Couldn’t go there. Not again. “Thanks. Good to know my car’s okay.”She muttered getting up carefully, sighing softly. “Yea, I do.”She agreed before before frowning at his words. Catching the slip, but not sure what to say to it. Knowing she needed to get away from him, needed away before he managed to drag down the walls that she’d built over a decade of being alone. Of it just being her, of being so alone and cut off that she hadn’t had sex in nearly 5 years simply because she couldn’t stand the idea of being that close to anyone ever again. “...Okay. Fine. Just a few days.”She said stumbling a little as she headed for the hotel room, stomach growling.

"i'll do my best Bobby... but you and i both know... that if she stays with me for long... she'll die like everyone always does." he admitted softly. "it's better if she leaves as soon as she has the chance and the strength." he admitted, sounding so very torn.

"no? huh, and here i was thinking you where nocturnal." he teased with a chuckle and a shake of his head. "yeah, the cars fine. she's in damn good condition actually." he admitted. "i'm damn jealous, but there's no way i'd trade Baby in." he admitted with a smile before grimacing. "i guess i deserved that." he admitted before hovering when she stumbled. "You shouldn't worry Bobby like that Sparkplug." he gently scolded. "i don't think you realize how much you scared him." he admitted, letting her walk herself inside but hovering in case she collapsed. "hey Cas. you feeling better?" he asked the Angel as he waked in. "Spa... Bailey, this is Castiel, an Angel of the Lord. he's been traveling with us for a while. Cas? this is Bailey." he introduced them, grinning when he saw the pizza on the table.

“....Not as much as I used to be. Seems not having to avoid a winchester in a drunken rage is good for sleeping habits.”She muttered rolling her eyes a little, definitely some things never changed. If she was hurt and just waking up, she woke up grumpy. “You should be jealous. Junior’s awesome.”She muttered before wincing a little, “....Meant I still liked Sausage....and don’t be perverted....I like sausage on my pizza not that...never mind.”She muttered frowning at him for hovering but not stopping him, which said she was probably worried about falling herself even if she she didn’t stop. Well. That was probably about as close as she’d ever come to outright admitting despite everything, anger and pain, she didn’t hate him. At least, not for himself. She hated him for the choices, and because he’d left her alone, with no one. At a loss to have any sort of life with anyone or anything, because he’d damaged her ability to care beyond simply doing the job, going through the hunt. “.....I’m not the one who went three months without calling him. Take your own advice.”She groused a little. “Yea. I am.”Cas said smiling pleased, before frowning. “....You are still not well. You need sleep. And food.”Cas said fussing over bailey because bailey was dean’s, which meant cas had to look after her. “....angel?” “Yes.”Cas smiled looking at the woman. “Hello.”She said almost shyly, at a loss. “....The pizza man delivered the pizza. Now sit. And eat.”Cas said waving them towards the food, simply treating her like he did sam and dean, hoping to make her feel comfortable. Pleased when she did sit to start eating.

"i deserved that too." he admitted with a sigh. "...you know i never..." he looked at her. "i would have gone with you. if you had still been around the next day... if you had been there still in the morning... i would have gone with you." he admitted softy. "i wouldn't even have hesitated." he admitted. "you made me... realize things. see things i hadn't seen before and suddenly..." he shook his head. "never mind... i can't..." he admitted softly. "you should get better as soon as you can and then leave, because everyone who gets close to me dies." he admitted. "besides, your in no state to help with an issue like Lucifer, if you ever where." and that, he knew, more than anything, would make her set her heals in. and he only felt a little bit guilty about doing it. "Sam was supposed to call him!" Dean protested. "i never remember! Sam is supposed to do it!" he grumbled. "yes. the Pizza man delivered the Pizza. what did you think he was gonna do Cas? strip naked and attack Sam?" he teased. "that only happens in movies, remember? we talked about this." he paused suddenly. "...there's only two beds..."

“......Some things you realized to late.”She muttered shrugging slightly, not looking at him. Because she’d avoided him for 10 years, had been to hurt, to broken at him refusing to leave, to run that she hadn’t been willing to face him. Even now, she wished she could avoid this, because she really, really wanted to just curl up with him, and let him sooth her to sleep like he had so many times before. Those two years she’d stayed with them most of the time had been the best she’d slept ever. Simply because she’d trusted him to watch her back as she slept. The fact that he’d realized it, and bobby had known, and still not told her, said that even if dean had figured out things, he hadn’t trusted dean not to break bailey more. Hadn’t considered putting them in touch again, because Bailey herself couldn’t trust anyone, not really, not like she had him. And in returning to john instead of leaving, had broken something in her. “....What?What?”She made a sound that was somewhere between a yelp and a hiss, a angry pissed growl that totally was going to make her set her heels in, dean had definitely known what to do. “I’m perfectly capable of helping. Besides, at least with me I remember to call bobby on a regular basis!”She said sounding like a angry cat, hissing and spitting mad. “....yea. I know, but it should happen in real life. Sam says your life is like a porno sometimes.”Cas said so blandly it would take dean about a minute to realize cas was purposefully yanking on his chain as they started to eat. “And yes, there is. You and bailey can have a bed and I’ll share with Cas.”Sam said silently smirking and snickering at the idea of dean sharing a bed with her.

"...i didn't know any better back then." he said softly. "I thought it was what i deserved." he admitted. "When you live with someone who makes you feel like dirt, after a while you believe you are dirt." he admitted. "and when that happens, even at seventeen years old, you believe people would be better off without you. i believed that for years before you came into my life and i believed it for years after." he admitted. "it's not an excuse really. i just... out of everyone i think you, more than anyone, deserve to know." he admitted. "not because i want you to feel sorry for me, but because.... you're probably the only person who ever had a chance. to drag me away... and i turned you away because i was a scared, selfish little boy who didn't know if what i was walking into was worse." he admitted. "because i want you to know that it wasn't your fault." he admitted before looking at her. "Look. your a great hunter, but this is some next level stuff that you're just not ready to handle yet." he stated simply.

"I don't see why Bobby cares anyway." he admitted. "it's not like me or Sam can actually stay dead." he huffed, shaking his head before scowling at Cas. "you are not helping." he informed the man, shaking his head before looking at Bailey, sighing as she realized she kept checking her arms. well he couldn't write anything now but he could come up with an excuse. with careful, hidden motions, he rubbed a line of fresh dead mans blood down his inner arm, so she would think her mate was hunting, instead of ignoring her. hunters hunted, even when worried, so hopefully it would absolve her fears. for now. "uh, no. not." Dean said. "Cas can share with Bailey." he decided. "he's an Ange so he can control himself. you and i will share Sammie Bro and if you argue i'll break you."

"...I know. It took years to figure it out, but I know."she muttered avoiding his eyes, she so didn't want this conversation. This hurt. Because she knew she probably should have talked to him years ago, but hadn't been able to bring herself to do it."....I'm sorry. I am. For everything that happened after..."she muttered thinking about everything he'd told her before smiling alightly."but at least you and sam are talking again. Family helps."and dean and Bobby had been the only family she'd allowed herself after her parents died. Not really believing it wasn't her fault, but she wanted to enjoy the few days she was going to let herself have with him, so she wasn't going to start arguments. "...don't make me kick your ass for being a chauvinistic asshole. Sounds like you need the help."she said simply.

"Well, if you care about people you don't want them to die even if they come back."sam said sighing a little."was I supposed to be helping?"cas smirked a little as bailey ate, nearly falling asleep in her pizza. She might have slept most of the day, but she was still recovering.sam raised his eyebrows smiling slightly when he saw bailey relax at the small amount of blood, before snorting at dean's words."fine. Whatever."he said smiling as cas simply picked up the finished eating bailey, settling her in bed and tucking her in and ignoring the grumpy annoyed protests no matter how sleepy they were
