The courier was like a man possessed as he rode through the night on the grey steed. The hooves of it digging into the dirt, spraying mud out behind it as it galloped along the path. Within his satchel the letter he had received to be delivered with the utmost urgency. In fact the person who gave it to him, said to get it to the recipients at any measure. He rode passed farm land, rivers, forests not giving the horse beneath him chance to rest until her arrived at his destination. Sliding off his horse, he clutched the leather bag nervously, as he eyed the fort before him. He knew vaguely of the history of the families and how three decided to move away from the centre of their lands, so this.... this he knew was not the castle. Or anywhere near as grand as it could be, and was a fort, that in the past had been used to keep watch over the border. It was still impressive, but then to the courier anything bigger than a gathering hall would be impressive.
He approached the fort, the cool air of the night sending a shiver across his body as he approached the draw bridge. Standing on either side were two guards, carrying halberds, and on their shields was the symbol of the Phoenix. Swallowing he began to approach and to no surprise the guards crossed their Halberds to deny him entry.
"Business?" one of the guards asked, before widening his eyes at the courier as he spoke. "Well hand the letter over, and we'll ensure his Majesty receives it.... Deliver it yourself?" The guards exchanged looks before moving their Halberds aside, and one followed the courier into the fort. Guiding him along spiralling stairs and further up into the mountainside that the fort had been build into they appeared at the top of the cliff face, on an outcrop of stone. "Sire, news for you." The guard pushed the courier forward as he approached and handed the letter to the King of these lands before leaving to deliver the rest of the letters to the neighbouring kingdoms.
The current king held out a brown leather hand to take the letter, adjusting from the position he was sitting in, his fur rimmed cloak shifting a little as he rolled his shoulders. After a few days of contemplation, and discussion with those of his court, it was decided to be best to see what was going to happen. Too long had been spent away, and now... was potentially the time for that to change. Of course the concern of there to be a trap was brought up, and held in the heart of those in the court. This led to him travelling to the centre of the lands, with an escort of ten knights.
It was early when they crested over the hill, the king slowly dismounted landing with a thud as he rolled his shoulders. He appeared to be a well built man, with fine featured face, and orange eyes at closer look, they were partially red along the outside, a trademark of his family along with his deep red hair flecked with bright sun orange. Which was long and wild, but tied back so it would trail down his back. He seemed to be wearing a mixture of leathers and plate armour, fit for travelling and would hold up if there was an attack on the road or once they entered the other kingdom. Thankfully there was neither.
One of the knights blew into a horn to announce their arrival before yelling, "King Baal Logi is answering the summons of Princess Suzanna!" After that they waited, half of the knights expecting the worst, the other half following the lead of their king, trusting that this would not die far from home.
