I know by default Xenforo has a timeout for the draft lengths, I believe by default it is 24 hours before they are pruned though I have no idea what the upper limit is for how long they can be saved. Vekseid would have to tell us the dirty details on what he has it set to and how often he has it set. (I believe it's under Options>Messages?) Then again this problem might be solved in 2.0 and simply hasn't been dealt with yet due to more pressing matters on the conversion side.
