Office Romances don't work...do they? (Nightstalker x Candi)

They had spent the best part of about a month getting the house just they had hoped for, working most days with Chris on home duties. Having set the date for the wedding and organizing most of it, he had been spending quite a lot of time behind the shed doors working on a few small things for the actual ceremony. His eyes took in the bed as it took shape each day, while she away at work he placed it into their bedroom.

Now one week to go until the wedding and his nerves were starting to get the better of him, so many thoughts turning over that he thought he would end up in hospital again. The ocean took care of that as he threw a frisbee on the sand for Rex or took long swims out towards a small rocky outcrop.

After a rather long day at work, Claire came home to him. She took off her jacket and set her things on the porch, seeing her fiance in the distance. She smiled and put her arms around him, holding him close as Rex came bounding back. "Mmmm, it's good to be home again."

Chris was relieved when she came home, returning the tight embrace his lips softly touched her cheeks. Guiding her into the house he smiled, words whispered. "Have a surprise for you in the bedroom."

She grinned and laughed as he guided her toward the house, Rex following after. "Oh? A surprise in the bedroom?" She wondered for a moment if it was something naughty, but she sort of doubted that. Still, she wouldn't have been opposed after some gentle coaxing. "Do I have to close my eyes?" She asked.

Chris heard her questioning words and held her close, lips ever so softly touching her cheek as he shook his head before walking into the kitchen. "No you don't, go have a look and tell me what you think. Will organize you something to drink."

She grinned and kissed his lips softly. "Okay. I'm already excited," she said, bouncing a little as she walked down the hall to their bedroom. Instantly she was greeted with the sight of their new bed. Chris hadn't been kidding about his ability to craft. It was absolutely beautiful, and she was struck speechless.

Chris heard the excitement in her voice and hoped she would not be disappointed as he fixed up a light white wine for her, coffee for himself until later in the evening. Stirring the food on the stove to make sure it did not burn, silence had fell on the house. His words carrying softly through the air. "Are you okay?"

"I...I'm fine," she said. "It's beautiful," she said, coming back to his side. "It's incredible and I love it. And you're absolutely amazing."

Chris waited before hearing both her words and footsteps across the floor, his eyes turning to meet hers as his cheeks flushed quite a lot. Shaking his head he placed the glass in her hand and spoke softly. "Not that talented, there were some minor errors with it."

She set the glass down and kissed his lips softly. "Look at me, Chris. You are amazing. And a few minor things will not take away from that masterpiece in our bedroom. Unless it falls apart," she added, lightening the mood a bit. "It's beautiful. Now shut up and kiss me."

Chris heard the sternness in her words as eyes met hers, sparkling a little he held her close and kissed her softly. His words whispered. "Thank you. Made a smaller version for Rex." He paused briefly before continuing. "Anyone at work miss me?"

She chuckled softly at the idea of Rex in a miniature bed and smiled at him. "Everyone misses you. They never thought you were a bad guy, hun. Just a little too industrious for your own good."

Hearing the soft chuckle escape her lips he could already tell that she felt it might have been too much for him to make the bed for Rex. Listening to her words he sighed softly and took a few sips of his coffee, resting one hand lightly on the bench before turning the stove off. "Tell them I am sorry, will have to return there to help out."

"You shouldn't feel guilty. They sort of let you do it too, you know." She smiled softly and kissed his lips. "Now come on. Let's just relax for a little while. It's been a long day for both of us."

Chris returned the soft kiss and lightly ran fingertips down her sides, nodding his head to her words before setting the small lid over the saucepan to let it cool slightly. Even cold it would still taste good. "So tell me more about your day." He said softly.

Claire smiled and ran her fingers through his hair. "Mmm, tons of paper work got done today. And I ordered the furniture of the office, which passed its inspections with flying covers." She smiled. "I just have to go through applications and resume's and cover letters. We'll be able to hire and train soon." She grinned and hugged him. "It's all finally starting to come together."

He moaned softly as her fingers ran through his hair, embracing her tightly his long thick fingers stretched out wide across her back teasingly running down her spine. Softly kissing her lips he spoke. "Glad to hear that and if you want some help on the reviewing of applicants I am available."

She smiled and kissed him back, staying close as he held her tightly to him. "Well, I'm glad to know that you volunteered for the job," she said with a little smile. "I would love some help. And since you'll be a department manager, it would be great to have your input." She smiled and rubbed his shoulders. "Now tell me about your day. I love to hear about them."

Chris's long thick fingers spread out wide across her back, his blue eyes sparkling brighter back into hers as he softly kissed her lips again before speaking in barely above a whispered tone. "Well apart from finishing the touches to the bed, I have been making last minute plans for the wedding trying to get the cake and location for something special just right."

Usually the location was the first thing that was booked for a wedding, next to the wedding dress. So the fact that they were looking for a location was a painful thought for Claire. But, she didn't much care where they got married as long as she got married to Chris. She smiled and kissed his lips one more time, glad he was holding her. "Mmm, can I hear about them?"

Chris smiled at her words and ran his fingers lovingly up and down her back and spine. His eyes sparkling a little brighter as he spoke. "Oh the location for the wedding is settled on, cake only missing a couple of things that should be here by the day after next. The location for the surprise is almost fully set too."

Claire grinned and kissed him again. "Ooh, I'm so excited." She smiled and hugged him a little closer, enjoying the way he held her. "Just think...we're almost there."
