Office Romances don't work...do they? (Nightstalker x Candi)

Giving up on the idea of deciding what to make on her own, she decided to find Chris and ask him. She saw him playing with his dog. She gave him a moment and smiled softly, coming out to see him. "Hey, what would you like to eat?"

Chris gave the tennis ball one last high throw just seconds before he heard the sliding door open and her voice, turning and walking casually back towards her his eyes both had a small glint in them. By the time he got to her the dog had returned with the ball nudging at his hand. He spoke softly. "You could ask him as well, you know he is part human around you."

((okay then))

She smiled and kissed him before she knelt down and started to pet Rex, kissing his head. "Mmm, what do you think, Rex? Hmmm? What's that boy? Steak? Well, alright, if you think so." She laughed as he licked her face and she gave his head another pat before taking the ball and throwing it for him again. "There's some in the freezer still. And some frozen corn. I think I'll grill it up. It'll have to marinade so it's going to take a bit of time, but you go ahead and play with Rex. By the time you're ready to come in, I'm sure I'll be ready to put it on the grill and if you shower, it'll be good before you're out." She smiled and leaned up and kissed him again, her arms slipping around him. "I love you so much."

Chris smiled and watched them interact, his blue eyes giving a little glint in each as he returned the hug and kiss to her. His own words whispered. "Love you so much too and thanks, just don't overwork yourself either."

She smiled. "Well look who's calling the kettle black," she teased, kissing his nose. "Don't you worry about me, dear. I learned my lesson already. I'll let you know when dinner's ready."

Chris grinned slyly at her words and laughed softly before returning to play fetch with Rex. Ten minutes later he stepped inside closing the glass door and removing his shirt as he walked into the bedroom. Opening the hamper he placed his shirt in there, removing his sweatpants they were soon thrown on top of his shirt and closed up the hamper. Soon he was in the bathroom, hands adjusting the water to the right temperature before he stepped under the warm cascading water.

Claire managed to marinate the steaks and get the corn ready to grill just as Chris came back in. She smiled at him and carried a large tray with her outside to their grill, which she started to get ready immediately. Once it was ready, she put the food down and started to cook. She'd decided to do some diced potatoes in tin foil with butter, salt, and pepper as well. It was almost done about ten minutes later, so she grabbed the frozen garlic bread from the counter and put that on as well. She had four pieces of toast, two ears of corn, and two large steaks, plus a small tin of diced potatoes. She brought it all inside to plate it, but thought that since he had been in a hospital for a long time, they should eat outside. So she set up a small table for them with their plates and a glass of wine for each of them. Once it was all ready she smiled and stood just at the door, waiting for him.

Chris hummed softly as his body was fully lathered, enjoying the warm water cascading down over every inch of his body. Rinsing off thoroughly he stepped from the shower and dried himself, wrapping the towel loosely around his waist as he casually walked back to the bedroom. Taking out a fresh shirt and some black trousers he put them both on, glancing at his reflection as he made his way back towards the yard area. He could already smell the food as he heard his stomach grumble lowly.

Claire smiled when she saw him coming. A few day's rest and he was already looking more like his old self. She smiled and kissed him as she took his hand. "You look nice," she said, leading him to the table she'd prepared. Rex had his own bowl of kibble and some meat scraps to eat. "I hope you like it."

Chris's eyes turned a darker shade of blue as he returned the kiss, his body fully refreshed and planning to stay this way as he breathed in the different aromas. Grinning a little he spoke softly as he took a seat at the table. "Oh I will my love, always enjoy your cooking."

She smiled and sat down with him at the table. "Thank you, dear. Go ahead and dig in. I'm sure you're starving," she said with a little smile. That said, she buttered her corn and took a bite of the grilled tastiness. "Mmm, delicious."

Chris grinned slyly at her words, watching from the corner of one eye her tasting the corn. Starting withe some of the other vegetables he licked his lips as he made sure all the flavor was absorbed. "Oh yes it is."

She smiled and finished her meal with him, savoring each bite and taste with him, making sure he ate all of his food. "How was it?" she asked with a little smile.

Chris felt her eyes watching him as he ate, the food went down and before he even knew it his plate was empty, eyes giving a glint in them and with an almost impish smile he spoke softly. "Absolutely perfect and delicious. Thank You."

"Any time," she said with a little smile. "I'm glad you enjoyed it." She smiled and took a sip of her wine, enjoying the flavor and the warmth. "Is there anything else you want?"

Chris smiled, his eyes holding gaze with hers as he lifted her hand and softly kissed the back of it, words barely spoken above a whispered tone. "Just your company along with the wine."

She smiled softly and let him hold her hand. "If you want," she said, just glad that he was back to his senses. This was the man she'd fallen in love with. Claire had missed him so much.

Chris smiled at her words, giving her hand a gentle squeeze before standing and letting go of her hand. Taking the bottle and glass from the table his other arm was extended as he spoke. "Shall we relax inside on the couch. "

"That sounds alright to me," she said, taking her glass with one hand and his hand in her other.

Chris smiled almost like a school boy as he felt her hand fit into the palm of his large strong one, long fingernails lightly touching hers as he guided them both back inside. Setting the bottle and his own glass down on the small long coffee table he sat slowly on the black leather couch, eyes sparkling as they met hers. "Have I told you how much I love you."

"Not recently," she said with a little smile, joining him on the sofa. She set her glass down as well and sat next to him, turning to look at him. "But I'm listening."

Chris felt his cheeks flush and heat as she joined him on the couch, fingertips from one hand ever so lightly caressed down the curvature of her spine pausing just above her buttocks as he spoke in a whispered tone. "Claire when you walked out the door, my heart sank. When you found me in my hospital it sang its love for you. There is not a day that goes by from now that I will not care for, cherish and love everything about you."

She smiled softly and relaxed into his hand. "I didn't mean it before...I would have come back for you. I can't leave you alone, Chris. I love you." She smiled and leaned into him.
