Yu-gi-oh 5Ds: Rise of Darkness and Corruption (Athene/ImaginaryMuse & Razgriz)

Even if they were let in by Mister Evans...It didn't change the core of the subject. But he would stick to his promise of not raising a fit about it; besides, they certainly had no ill intent. "Well Hajime, Yuna...I suppose I can say thanks to the both for making sure she managed to get out of the Satellite relatively unharmed." he would say, leading the way to the dining hall. It was rather grandiose, but with him having had so much money, it was no surprise really. From the Victorian-style chandeliers to the elaborate wallpaper jobs and woodwork accents, a good deal of money was sunk into this place. And the large dining table, enough to host a part for more than a dozen guests comfortably, was certainly nothing to sneeze at either.

And soon enough, they were all around the table, having been served a hearty breakfast that one could expect from Tops chefs. And it was here that Jack would hear Yuna ask her question, having just taken a bite of the eggs that were made for him.

"She didn't go into specifics, which I imagine was more to respect your privacy. Which is also well and fine by me; I can only apologize on Kiryu's behalf that he put you through so much. For whatever that might be worth...But you said that Kiryu had joined up with others to track down the Signers? To what end? Did he even mention as such?" Jack then asked; of course, he had a pretty damn good idea if it was Kiryu they were talking about. The man had made it very clear that he would hunt down Yusei...And that likely now extended to anyone he knew.

Which made Fayth an obvious target; now that he thought about it, was this really why Goodwin had him watch over her? If that was the case...Then it made it quite suspicious how Goodwin might have come across that information.

Kiryu's smile was still there, even as Misty pointed out a very fatal flaw in Takeshi's little plan. "No, Misty, you're right. She did quite clearly state he was dead. And I can tell...This guy knows he's alive. In fact, I bet you had a real heart-felt welcome when he came back, didn't you?"

Kiryu leaned a little closer to Takeshi, replying "Thanks for telling us that so freely; I never did get to thank him properly for setting me free from the Facility. I'm really glad that he is alive; he's so much better than Yuna on so many different levels. I mean, sure, she's a woman...But I'd rather strike out constantly with Misty than succeed once with someone like her. She can be a real petty bitch when she wants to. At least Misty has smarts and a smokin' body, wouldn't you agree? Besides...Me and Sosuke were actually good friends; I helped him find his brother, after all."

Takeshi looked over at Misty, seeing her still sitting there; it was true, she was a beautiful woman to look at. He wouldn't answer Kiryu's question, but rather reply to Misty's, "Haven't a clue...I can only guess she thought he was dead. And when he told us how she killed him? I'd have . Guess I'll have to apologize to her once I'm out of here...And to him. But I don't think he'll mind as much."

"You say that as if you're going anywhere."

And now a fourth voice would join, followed by the other figure that had joined Misty to jailbreak Takeshi. This one, a dark-skinned male, had red accents on his robe. And judging by how he carried himself? He was their boss, evident even more so by the stern but oddly pleased expression he wore.

"It would seem Kiryu was right about you...This deck is formidable, and contains a card I had thought you to be incapable of wielding. How very interesting for you to have it. I take it this 'Sosuke' is the reason you managed to get your hands on it? If he lives up to his namesake...Then I'm sure he's told you all about this card, right?" It was here that Rutger held up Beelze, as if he were supposed to be in awe of it. Takeshi raised a brow, "Okay? Sure, it's virtually indestructible once it's summoned, which is awesome I won't lie..." Now Rutger allowed a short chuckle to escape him, "Takeshi...If only you know the real power of this card...Well, no matter. You'll be able to use it quite effectively once everything is complete."

Takeshi then sneered, "Sorry...Don't feel like joining whatever freaky underground sex club you guys have." At this Kiryu was about ready to die from laughter, even if it was impossible, "See?! Strong and a joker! I love this guy!" Rutger scowled a little"Crude humor aside...You have my commendations, Kiryu." Rutger said, the younger Dark Signer pretending to be flustered and bashful and jokingly saying "Oh, Lord Rutger, you're making me blush." Something that made a slight moment of displeasure cross his face, a fact that wouldn't go unnoticed by Takeshi. "You sure you should be letting him join? He seems a little...batshit crazy." At this Kiryu just laughed, "Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet! Hell, I even let myself drown to get this power! In salt water! You can't even imagine the burn that entailed!"

Rutger gave a small 'Harumph' to silence Kiryu before adding "His enrollment among our ranks is the least of your worries, boy...For you'll soon be joining him. Misty...Hold him still if you would." It was at least the small mercy he could bring to the lad...To have arguably the least repulsive underling be near him for his final moments as a mortal. Rutger then held out an arm, a spider-shaped mark appearing on the forearm before a miniature, red-trimmed spider artifact seemed to come to life. It was no bigger than a marble...But when he saw it walk, that's when he started to freak a little. While not arachnophobic, the fact was he didn't know WHAT the fuck was happening and that scared him.

A thread then descended from Rutger's palm, the hand opened downward before the spider would crawl and shimmy its way down the translucent fiber. "Believe me when I say this Takeshi...This will not be painful. You will awaken more powerful than ever....But make no mistake, you will serve me. And carry out the will of the Gods." And when it landed on his shoulder, Takeshi involuntarily pressed back against Misty's chest, trying his best to escape it...But then it crawled the back of his neck and slowly began to sink in its entirety through his skin. A muted squeak leaving Takeshi's mouth before his head slumped forward.

A few moments later, the same mark that Rutger had would then appear on Takeshi's arm, the difference being that another of its formerly eight appendages was now missing. Takeshi's head soon lifting up to reveal blanked eyes, almost very much like that of the stereotype of the monsters that inhabited his deck. They would find him quite compliant now, able to be led just about anywhere. "Well...That is that. Misty...Since you seem to be the most trustworthy, escort him to the Ritual Chamber. We will have one of the other Drones test themselves. Demak and myself have other business to attend to...And Kiryu, since you seem eager for action, make yourself useful and track down where Carly went. That stupid girl hasn't been seen in days; she should know we're close." And giving a mock salute, Kiryu would say, "Yes, your Lordship. Maybe she's finally calmed down by this point...I can think of one thing that might make her loosen up a little bit, haha."

So ... this is gonna be a tad personal, but it's exactly to make sure I don't jump to any unnecessary conclusions. Fayth? You're here as ... what now?

Sure enough, Fayth's face immediately turned a bit red. "Not what you're trying to joke about. The day after you gave me the news about Kiryu reviving ... me and Jack talked after the round for the Fortune Cup ended. And ... in the midst of exchanging words, this arrangement came out as a plan."

Although her smirk didn't completely vanish, Yuna's reply at least hinted she wouldn't tease Fayth too much more. Not for the time being, anyway.

Then I'm sure you realize the one huge risk that came with accepting this?

"Yeah. If this were to backfire, they'd find two of us at once. Even still .... " Her head turned away slightly as she shook her head. "Fuyu already had to fight Kiryu last time. I'm not gonna make her deal with him, least of all when she's not even a Signer herself. None of us seem to have all the details on what this whole Signer role is. But if I can help it, I'm going to minimize the risks for other people."

.... Is he right? Was it really for privacy of all things?

"N-Not privacy, no. But ... how od you even repeat those sorts of torture methods?"

Good. I'm kinda glad because ... seriously? Privacy? Far too modest. It would have been a sweet attempt, mind you, but ... no. Very begrudgingly, but still, everyone else back home saw. Well ... their reactions weren't too much different than yours or Yusei's. Nor do I blame them. But with how low Kiryu sank, and the fact he started demanding their names as well as any Signers? It's exactly why I let them see. Because they need to know they are that dangerous.

A grimace would appear as Yuna took a few minutes to begin eating. After completing the first bite, she nodded a few times before looking back.

Compared to my incident ... this one is already far more organized and careful in how it was executed. That's one of the few good hints I got from our search last night. If they're using this many precautions .... then they probably need Takeshi alive. Doesn't mean we're gonna take our time looking or whatnot; but knowing there isn't a timer working against us helps. At least not for the threat of him being executed. As far as what they want with the Signers?

Her eyes would shut as she forced herself to think long and hard. Unfortunately, the shared link caused some of the flashbacks to go now through everyone's minds whom Yuna was speaking with.

And right before Kiryu dragged her into the box and locked her in the very first time, Jack would finally begin to understand why Fayth had been too shaken up to say exactly what'd happened.

... No. Unfortunately, he didn't give any direct answers on what he wants. But with how adamant he was to learn your locations? I hate to be the pessimist, but .... prepare for the absolute worst. The best case scenario? Getting something similar to what I endured.

"That's the best?!" Fayth exclaimed, barely able to control herself.

From a certain point of view, yeah. I won't deny that near the end .... there was a bit where the idea of death was fine with me. But in all honesty? I'm glad whoever muted me decided against it. Wih how important this role you all have sounds ... then would it not be better to come out of anything that may or may not happen alive?

"W-Well .... I mean, yes. But I'm nothing like you. I still don't get how you even ... "

Yuna's smirk merely widened as she practically heard the unfinished thoughts.

I've defied a lot of odds, Fayth. I disguised myself as a man for years because ... well, you've been in the Satellite long enough. I'm sure the misogynistic tone didn't escape you, yes? It definitely didn't go unnoticed by me. It was also a way to get Yomi up and running while simultaneously keeping Sector from finding out who I truly was. And for years, it worked. When stakes are high .... that's when I'm at my strongest ... mentally, anyway. I gave up caring about myself long ago. Those wronged by Sector and the lack of a true justice system? That's a different story.

At any rate ... you're not as weak as you think. There's more to strength than pure muscles and physical prowess, you know?

"I-I do, but ... "

But nothing. You just need to work on that. Which ... is what I was trying to do before the Facility got wrecked and overthrown. Hell, I'd gladly resume after joining you in eating, but ...

Her eyes softened.

I got too many other factors working against me. Even if I excluded being found by Goodwin, there's other things I have to immediately tend to. Nonetheless, I do think you can figure something out, Fayth. You adapted to your ... state. Not everyone can do that, you know? Many give up just simply from becoming blind, regardless of how. And if I had to be completely earnest? I may be one of those people. That's ... really hard to imagine myself coping with, particularly when it means losing so much more aside from dueling. You though? You fought. You endured, you survived. If you accomplished that, you can extend it to mentally and psychologically preparing yourself.

"Thank you, Yuna ... " Fayth whispered, going back to eating after uttering the two simple words.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Thought, huh? Hmm .... so had intent to, but failed? That's what it sounds like to me."

Had it been an intentional fuck up or an accidental one though?

No matter how small those details may seem to many others, Misty knew better. It was actually very, very important. Perhaps more than any - most, anyway - of the other Dark Signers may understand.

"It doesn't really matter. Her time's running short. I'll definitely see to that personally."

Finally! she thought, hearing Rutger make his appearance. Good. The sooner this conversion occurred, the better. Granted, she didn't really expect Takeshi to get a sudden, well not powerful enough, adrenaline rush and get away. But it was best not to tempt fate.

No words would be given. Instead, she simply moved behind Takeshi, wrapping one arm around his waist and the other grabbing a fistful of hair. Exactly like Kiryu had done with Yuna when she was forced into her mute state, head tilted up in case the spider would need access to his neck.

"O-Oi! Stop squirming, boy!" Misty hissed, squeezing harder as his back pushed against her chest. It wasn't likely intentional - a saving grace, no doubt. All the same, it was an annoying and abrupt sensation. And finally .... he'd cease moving altogether.

Misty took that as her cue to release his hair and moved her fingers atop his wrist - just to be damn sure. Not everyone could handle his sort of process, after all. She'd give Rutger a nod, signaling he was sill alive; just unconscious.

"Of course, Rutger-sama."

After unhooking Takeshi from his chains, she'd guide one of his arms over her shoulders. He hadn't moved in so long and would need at least a bit of support. She would take a few steps away before hearing Kiryu's ... comment about loosening Carly up. Her eyes rolled as she continued walking away - purposely going slower to ensure she didn't cause any unnecessary harm to the newest member.

"Even so...She seems to handle herself quite well. I've little doubt she can hold her own, even if one of them does come across her." Jack would state; his mind went back to when they first met. She and Reiji seemed quite close, even closer were both of them to Fayth. How very similar it was to how he used to be with Kiryu, Crow and Yusei.

His thoughts were distracted as she began to share the more brutal moments of her torture. He knew Kiryu had gotten more than a little 'loose' with morals during his time with Team Satisfaction...But this showed a new level of depravity. The one detail that really stood out though, was the color of his eyes. Black...So it was really true what Fayth had said to him. The guy had been killed and brought back to life. He figured she wasn't lying...But it was still kind of a shock to see that he was in fact still breathing.

"Unfortunately, what you declare the absolute worst is actually a blessing if he's gotten as strong as that." Jack would then say; letting out a sigh, he decided to confide in them his secret. "What I'm about to share...Isn't something that's common knowledge. Fayth already kind of knows...But for you two, it's best you understand why I say that."

Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, "Just as you told me this to not keep me in the dark, I'll tell you something the same: I used to live in the Satellite. In fact, Kiryu and I were once in the same group. The same Duel Gang, as Security calls them. There was a time where we had all of the Satellite together as one. And hard as it might be to believe? He was the reason me, Crow and Yusei found any source of hope to begin with living there. He helped us find the silver lining in our lives...But when Sector arrived and starting punishing people for Dueling, that's when things took a tailspin. Kiryu retaliated against them...Hard. Blew up one of their bases when the arrests began, injuring several so severely that they could never walk or eat right again. And...He was proud of what he'd done."

Taking another small breath, he continued, "It was there that I knew he was trouble...So I had to leave and take my own path. I later found out that Kiryu tried to kill another officer by ramming him with his Runner. Yusei tried to hide him away and take responsibility. Tried to be a good friend so that his own comrade wouldn't suffer the brutality of the Facility, but Kiryu was still arrested. This made Kiryu loathe Yusei...So much so that the last thing he yelled before he was taken away was that when he got out, he would make Yusei suffer for betraying him. And if he does find out that you're with Fayth and Yusei? He'll do everything he can to make the torment so much worse." Looking down at his near-empty plate, he suddenly felt not hungry and pushed the food away.

Even if he just explained it...Was such a strong desire for revenge really enough to be given the chance to live again? If so....Then there really was no telling how much farther he would sink to get to them. No...The list of things he wouldn't do was by comparison very VERY small.

He then looked at Yuna, "Just promise Fayth and myself something...If you do find him, don't fight him alone. I know he hurt you by taking one of your guys...But for your own safety, try to hit him as a group if it comes down to it. He'll want to isolate you, to force you to fight alone. Just as he felt Yusei did to him to all those years ago."

Although everyone would see Fayth weakly smiling, her mind was confused. Why? How could any of them really think she had any chance of being even somewhat competent in dealing with the same kind of torment Yuna had been subjected to?

Fayth would hear Yuna clearing her throat, and then flash a knowing smirk.

"Y..you can hear those too?"

Mhm. Mainly because he's allowing me tot use his abilities which ... do include forced psychic powers. Otherwise? I'd control it myself if I didn't have to borrow him.

Borrow, huh? That what you call this?
Hajime teased back.

Until I can figure something more appropriate out, yes. More or less, that is the case.

.... Would there even be a day she could have at least her powers back? If Rose had to stay sealed, so be it. But it would be great to at least use her powers on her own. Or hell, even just being able to speak would be as welcoming. Yuna's head bowed slightly, feeling her own appetite attempting to vanish. But if only because she hadn't had anything, she tried to make her body cooperate.

" .... What? You also think that?"

Fayth wasn't necessarily disgusted at Jack's response, but obviously taken aback. Apparently, though, there was a damn good reason for it. Everyone would slowly eat whilst listening to Jack explaining his link with Kiryu.

Hmmm .... Yuna would think long and hard on everything. Namely the acts Kiryu had performed, and then compared them to her own 'sins'. It was a bit eerie to admit she wasn't too different. Thankfully, there was one major factor that she could spot, and it helped her feel very relieved.

I may not be perfect in all I have and haven't done. But ... I suppose that's partly why I may as well get another clarification out. Because ... heh. Goodwin's not ever gonna tell you the truth on what Yomi really is. Or how we - I, I suppose - run things. We're a haven, in the simplest of terms. We took people being hunted because of being a duelist or being unfortunate enough to be out when curfew hit and gave them a safe place to stay. In the beginning ... yeah. I did have to steal some of the portions to help us survive. But ....

Yuna shrugged.

I can't say I regret it. There's no point in bullshitting it - I do deserve my mark. Even if in self-defense, I have killed. I've done much worse than just steal make sure everyone could eat and live. But I at least made sure only those who deserved it got their karma. Yomi's always tried to help people like Fayth or .... anyone else tossed in the Facility for petty ass reasons that don't. That ... is exactly why we agreed to overthrow the Facility. Not even the lowest of the low deserved there. Whatever horror stories you've heard, Jack? They're all proably right, or tamer versions. The Facility was ... wrong on so many levels.

Oi. Yuna. Sorry to interrupt your speech, but ... is your own mark feeling odd?

I don't know! I'm not the technical genius among us! I mean.... I'm not feeling anything. But if these really can be traced ... then there may not be a way to 'sense' anything, per se.

" .... Wait, what?" Fayth curiously inquired.

One of our members figured out anyone with a criminal mark an be located. Even on a laptop or computer.

Yuna shook her head.

An interesting revelation .... although also an annoying one. I know though; I get it, Hajime. I have been mentally keeping track of time. That, Fayth, is an example of one of the many other factors I've got working against me. You should be fine though, especially since you're with Jack.

"That .... "

Isn't fair? Pfft. Welcome to reality, Fayth. Or rather, our world, since Yusei hinted last we met you're not even from here. I'd love to ask how that works, but ... I got a feeling we'll need to make a rain check for that. If you ever wanna find me, I'll be at the new version of the Facility. And .... at the same time, given how your own stay went while in there, I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to avoid it. So I'd be fine figuring some other location to meet up at out.

And in case Jack may have started thinking she hadn't heard him, she would look back over to him and finally acknowledge his promise.

I can promise I'll make an effort to keep that vow to you both. We had to split up last night. We're likely gonna resume looking for Takeshi again pretty quickly. I'll see about giving my coordinates to my partner, but ... with all Kiryu is now capable of doing? He may be quicker to split us apart than me succeeding in giving The Fiend enough time to reach me.

Finally, Yuna and Hajime would push their own plates forward, Fayth mimicking them soon enough.

If either of you got any last minute questions, get them out now. Otherwise ... I hate to agree, but Hajme's right. Staying here too much longer won't be good for either of us. If nothing else? You both know how to get a hold of us and maybe, if push really comes to shove, we can discuss things more so at a later date.

"Well...It's certainly different from how he described it, if what you're saying is true. He wouldn't say much specifically on that, only that intelligence reported that it was a haven for violent offenders that used it to carry out directed attacks against Security officers." he would reply, grimacing as she mentioned she'd killed before. Self-defense or not....He couldn't condone the murder of another. Besides, he knew a lot of the younger officers just joined because of the fame that came with it. Going into the 'war zone' that was the Satellite. There were plenty that did join to try and actually help....But those were few and far between. Most just wanted the power that came with the badge.

Although...He did raise a brow when she mentioned that the criminal marks could be tracked. So it was more than just a visual identifier then; how very interesting that Goodwin failed to mention that much to him. But that would explain the times he'd seen those handheld devices from officers on patrol. They were scanners. Well, that actually did help him out; if something did happen to Fayth, then she could be tracked another way. Even so, he wasn't too pleased about being kept in the dark like that.

"Well...I'll say only this in part. If this Fiend really is one of yours, I suggest you keep an eye on him. Goodwin doesn't seem to care for him all that much, and the things I've heard of him aren't exactly pleasant. I'd appreciate if he wasn't allowed to rampage, especially if it means putting someone under my protection in danger in the process." Little did Jack know what had between herself and the Fiend, and how he'd very well nearly killed her with his 'rampage' tactics in Dueling. Goodwin had often said the Fiend was Sector and the Tops' public enemy number one, especially with the times Jack had witnessed officers being airlifted out of Puzzle Hospital in the Satellite.

If even half the stories he heard were true...The Fiend cared for almost no one in the Satellite. The Director even stated that if he could make it happen, he would find a suitable team to simply get rid of the guy for good. But he was too quick and knew the streets too well....And how Sector operated. To this day, the Special Investigations Unit still had no clue who was able to feed him the information he needed to avoid patrols.

Regardless of what was said next, Jack would see that Hajime and Yuna were safely escorted off the premises; he would even go so far as to provide them a route he knew had a very low chance of being overly populated with Sector officers.

Turning back to face Fayth after they left, he then said, "Look...About earlier. I didn't mean to come across so harshly....I just didn't expect anyone to be let in without my knowing about it. I don't mind if you have people you know come visit...But, in the future, can we just meet in the middle and you let me know?"

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Finlay, meanwhile, was eagerly awaiting a certain someone of his own. He was certainly sure Shivini was busy, as he had been too. Even so...Their conversations over the phone had been short but very meaningful to him. The fact that she bothered to keep in touch at all was proof that she liked him, maybe even as much as he liked her. Despite her harsh appearance, he could tell she was a caring woman deep down.

He had joked that he would invite her for a rematch this time, but that was not the case. There was a game arcade that he thought to take her too; it was immensely popular and had quite the selection. Afterwards, he had an idea to take her to a local bistro for a lunch; the dress was casual, but the food was something out of a five-star tie-and-suit restaurant. Even so...This place did have did have Duel Terminals, something they could try. And after everything that happened with the Fortune Cup, some good silly fun would be very much welcome.

And for this today, he was dressed down...Or at least as dressed down as he could be. He wore a short-sleeved, vertical-striped blue button down shirt and tan slacks with polished black loafers that looked like high-end business shoes.

He just hoped that where he planned to take her today wouldn't be too much; not everyone was into games like this after all. But he'd also never really gone out with a woman like Shivini before; it would be fun in a way to explore what things they could do together.

Not violent, no. Well .... we didn't intentionally bring those in, anyway. But once they showed their true colors, they two options. Get their shit together or leave.

Well, hell; this visit ended up being more productive - although also serious - than she'd thought. Still, being able to relay this kind of information to someone who was normally close to Goodwin .... this was a smarter way to even consider going about a war versus The Director. Turn what used to be your closest ally against you when you have enough people.

A very .... disheartened smile, rather than the usual smirk, would appear on Yuna's face as Hotsuma was brought up. She solemnly nodded.

Twenty steps ahead of you. Especially after last night. It's .....

Her eyebrows furrow, the smile now reversing into a pure frown as her head shook.

I hate using a cop-out answer, but complicated is the simplest word to use. He, personally, has had some really close losses, but ... at the same time, even I can't fully support his mindset right now. Still ... I don't want him mimicking Kiryu, and it's one of the main reasons I'm trying so hard to tolerate and help him.

Well .... that did put Hajime at ease. He had wondered about that in all honesty, particularly when he ended up taking the hit meant for Yuna. Regardless, what she was hinting was just as true. He was becoming more and more ... unhinged which, really, was beginning to scare Hajime. Yuna, despite nearly killing Hotsuma, had regained enough of her humanity to rush him to the hospital.

If it ever became reversed .... would he bother trying to save Yuna?

He honestly had no clue. As much as Hajime wanted to think he would - even if just because it would made them 'even' - he knew there was a very real possibility Hotsuma may simply leave Yuna to die.

Hajime would patiently wait while Yuna gave Fayth one last hug.

I know you don't feel like you can --- but you will figure something out. You're definitely smarter than Kiryu as he is now, I can promise you that much for sure.

"But I'm not .... "

You don't need to be me. Hell .... I'm probably the worst example to use. I lost so much in a heartbeat - all because I got too cocky. The one time I didn't listen to Rose ..... it's a regret of mine. She was right. I should have just run, but back then .... see, that's why you'll do better than me. You won't make the same mistakes I did.

Yuna would nod to Hajime who finally 'disconnected' the shared link among everyone. She'd thank Jack about the route with a smile and finally .... Yuna and Hajime would leave.

When Jack apologized, he would notice Fayth visibly shaking. She'd move her head up and down a few times before glancing away. "I ... I appreciate hearing that. I just .... I'm at a loss. Even at LDS, where most of us are trained to be soldiers and duelists, there's nothing mentioned to deal with people like Kiryu .... Sora .... anyone this .... gone, for a lack of better wording."

A new set of tears were trying to form as her voice began cracking.

"There's only so much I can keep asking Reiji for ... I ... I'm sorry."

"I'm terrified ... "

Even though the thoughts were unspoken, Jack could fairly assume she was scared. Rightfully so, too. Still, she didn't want to feel as if she were being a burden by asking him for something he was likely just a clueless on. So, Fayth ran up the stairs and shut herself in her room. She'd cried enough times in front of him. She refused to easily do that again.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
'Busy' was ..... a good way to put it. Hearing Takeshi was arrested over a petty reason had been annoying enough. Learning neither Hotsuma nor Yuna had been able to find even a clue that could lead to him? That was disheartening. This whole situation was frustrating. Before Takeshi got dragged away, she and he others had been looking forward to celebrating.

What would happen now?

Only time would tell, she supposed, managing to weakly smile as the boat stopped near the closest pier within the Tops.

For now, there was something more important she'd focus on; her date with Finlay. That was the sole reason she was here, after all. And while he'd been joking about dueling, she went on ahead and brought both deck and disk.

It took a while, particularly since she was going off vague memories. Soon, though, she would find Finlay. And he would note, partially due to how warm it was, Shivini had decided to take her own more casual approach compared to the last few outfits he saw her in.

"Hey, Finlay! It's good to see you again! I'm hoping today's a day off if we can actually be together today?"

It was mostly a jest, but the slightly selfish part of her did hope it was a definite 'yes'. Or a confident enough one they could have an hour, if not longer, together.

"I don't think you even said, but .... what do you do for work, anyway?"

So....The Fiend wasn't as bad as the Director said he was? At least, not before now. It made him wonder what the guy was like before, if that was the case. And if he was becoming unhinged...

Well, at least he wasn't over here. At least he was away from Fayth and the others...But when he looked closer at Fayth, he could see how visibly distraught she was. But before he could even try to see anything, she bolted away from him. Moments later, hearing the door slam to her room.

"For someone who's blind, even in a panic she can remember her steps...That's exceptional perception. She ought to give herself more credit."

"Mister Atlas, is everything..." he then heard Mister Evans ask, the staff working to clear the table. "Ah...Yes, nothing for you to worry about. I'll handle it." And with that, the butler would watch the man go up the stairs to check on his friend. Something that made the man smile; he remembered the days when Jack wouldn't even think twice about trying to step in on someone's behalf.

"That woman....She really has done wonders for him." he would muse to himself in an amused manner, turning his attention back to getting the table in proper dining order.

Jack approached Fayth's door, a hand coming up to knock when he would hold it there apprehensively; should he even bother her? Maybe she just needed alone time, he thought; it was clear that the people she was trained to face hadn't sunk to the depths of Kiryu or this Sora. But then, how could one expect someone to do such vile things to another? His gaze steeled as he then knocked thrice on her door before letting himself in.

"Fayth...I can only imagine how you're feeling." he would say, coming to sit beside her on the bed. "I won't lie and say I know how it feels; only you can know that much. But I want you to know something else: This fear you're feeling, it's nothing to be ashamed of."

Pausing for a moment, he then added, "And Reiji...I can tell he's the type of guy who will do anything he can to help anyone he considers a friend. The point is...I just don't want you to think you'll have to face these kinds of things alone. Whether it's Yusei, or Yuna, or even me...No one expects each other to fight their battles solo. That's what friends do, right?"

Finlay was more than a little surprised that she actually brought her disk and deck with her; he did have his deck, but he left his disk at home. Even so, they could figure something out if they wanted to have their rematch today. One that Game Paradise did have was a series of Duel Terminals where people could build a deck from the massive variety of cards that were in the inventory.

All the same, he was just happy to see her. Evidenced by the very happy smile when he laid eyes on her.

"Shivini!" he would say, coming to greet her. "Guess we both lost track of time huh? But...That's alright." His eyes softened more as he then said, "I'm just really glad that you're alright; with Goodwin's announcement about that poor Takeshi fellow yesterday, I was worried they'd be cracking down on people trying to leave. To think he would arrest someone over who he knows; what if he just happened to be there? To say I don't agree with Goodwin's policy does my displeasure for the man a great injustice."

He then realized he may have said a bit too much on the subject, "B-but, let's not focus on such a dour topic!" And when she then switched to his profession, he seemed more than relieved, "I...probably didn't go into specifics, did I? No, come to think of it, that's exactly what happened. Apologies...My father's an archaeologist, as you know. I work under him as an assistant. Helping with research, deciphering code in the ruins he explores, aiding in translations of runes they encounter, that sort of thing. He's actually on a flight back from Peru as we speak, and I just finished and sent him the latest batch of translations he had me unlock."

He then smiled even more, "So to answer your other question? Yes, today, we have each other to ourselves! Come on, I want to show you a place where I go to unwind sometimes! It's a school day, so it should be mostly empty!"

And sure enough, when they got to Game Paradise, it was mostly free. "I like to come here when I have ample free time. Losing myself to the mindlessness of these games is really a great stress relief." Keeping his voice down, he then asked, "So...Shivini, this is probably a really stupid question, but are there places like this in the Satellite?"

Fayth jerked her head quickly up as the three knocks echoed on the door. She subconsciously held her breath for a few seconds. Was that even Jack? Or was someone else? One of the many butlers including Mister Evans? To say she was shocked to hear Jack's voice was a bit of an understatement. And yet ... it was the pleasant type of surprise.

"Jack, I .... "

Fayth stopped, partially to stabilize her voice so she could be heard, and partly to gather her thoughts. Organize them, keep them from swimming furiously around in her head.

"I just feel like I'm in a lose-lose scenario right now. It's as frustrating as it is intimidating ... "

With how close she'd been to breaking down, her body decided 'fuck it', causing a new stream of tears to fall from under her blindfold.

"No matter whether I stayed here or not ... I'm practically staring at death. And if I already have once, I don't really want to tempt a second close call. Nowhere' s safe, and ... " Her fists clenched, grabbing tightly onto the sheets. "And I ... I ... have to .... "

She couldn't get past that point; not aloud. Every time Fayth's mouth opened to add more, the words got caught in her throat. Finally, she managed to make a low scoff pass her lips. In what was easily the most unorthodox gesture Jack would ever see from Fayth, she let go of the sheets and punched the closest pillow. No, it wouldn't fix any of the lingering threats or issues, but it did keep her from falling into a full-fledged panic attack.

"How can you and Yuna be so calm? I envy you both ... "

Finally, her fist lifted up, briefly falling on top of her jeans. "Please ... excuse me ... " Jack would see and feel precisely what she meant as she wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her head in his chest.

Arrests? Using the stupid 'guilty by association' policy?

It was true that, essentially, that had basically been what Goodwin went through with. Now that she found herself temporarily thinking on whether he'd act on such a thing? Her heart froze.

Believing one was safe was one topic. Knowing if that was the case? That was a whole different story.

Confident as Shivini usually was, even she couldn't help but wonder if she, Hajime, Eikichi, or anyone else had somehow been discovered.

"Hehe, yeah, let's .... definitely not fret about Mr. Corrupt Director for now, thanks."

Some part of Shivini honestly felt as if she should have expected his reply when he relayed what the did for work. It certainly made sense, and did strengthen how else he knew so much about ancient names and topics. Aside from the more obvious possibilities like a formal education and-slash-or reading books from a library, that was.

"I see. That's pretty cool. But isn't it hard? If your dad is an archaeologist ... he's away often, isn't he?"

Like most of the Satellite residents Shivini was also an orphan. The difference was she had been one at too young of an age to remember her parents. Some knew, even if only with brief images or memories. Shivini was blessed - or cursed, depending on one's point of view - to have no such factors haunting her.

Finlay would finally see a genuine grin appear on Shivini's face as he revealed this was indeed a day off for him. "Awesome! I mean ... I'm sure the work's a necessary evil and all, but breaks are just as nice .... "

"I think?" she internally asked in her mind.

Being an ally and subordinate, of sorts, was one thing. But it was also something Shivini had quickly gotten accustomed to. As such, she didn't view it was 'work', but a part of her daily life. The Amazoness user would follow behind Finlay, walking into the arcade. Without missing a beat, her head would move from side to side.

"I wouldn't say stupid, personally, but certainly very hopeful. Either way, nope. We absolutely do not have these kinds of places ... or games. So ... you're gonna have to teach me."

Jack just sat there as Fayth poured out her worst fears to him; even if she was a 'soldier' of this LDS, it was clear her experiences - deep down, at least - traumatized her. Not that anyone wouldn't be; and he still had no clue about what had really happened to her in the Facility. Only that Yuna got the worst of it; and even though he did want to see if anyone had gotten too 'hands-on' with her aside from Kiryu, he wasn't about to bring it up again for her sake.

She had a lot to shoulder...At the very least he could try to be here to help her not carry all of it.

But when that moment came, it wasn't even his shoulder she found. Nope, her face was buried snugly in his chest, his arms raised in surprise as he momentarily panicked on what to do; this was different from the time his female fans ran up and gave him unexpected hugs (though most of them did actually ask out of politeness). He had more less numbed himself to those empty displays of affection. This was someone seeking comfort, someone else to remind them that they weren't truly alone. And despite knowing what he should do...He was hesitant, having never really had this type of experience before.

Regardless, he steeled and mentally reprimanded himself for showing lack of fortitude; this was something he could definitely do. And slowly, his arms would come to embrace her as well. One on her back gently, the other running down the length of her hair in short, soft strokes. Feeling some of her tears go through his shirt...But even as she and he held each other, he said nothing. Content to use his body as a silent shield for...Even if it was only temporary.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Yeah, I suppose he is...But that's alright. It's helped me learn to be independent. Truthfully, I consider myself fortunate; most of my other...well, colleagues...have families that do well enough where they can have a maid service come by and clean their studios or homes. My father didn't want me to become spoiled in that respect, so he showed me how to do basic chores. Granted...I get so engrossed in the work sometimes that I'll forget to eat or something...But that doesn't happen too often." Finlay admitted with a nervous chuckle

Finlay supposed he shouldn't be surprised that they didn't have arcades or even games like this; from what he'd come to understand, running water and working electricity were both difficult to come back for a large number of households. So much so that even having one made you 'rich' over there. Most families had to use candles and flashlights for any sort of illumination at night. Kind of sad when he thought about it; for a commodity that was so commonplace it was overlooked, he couldn't imagine what living like that was like.

But...If there was one thing he did know, it was that humans were adaptable. They always found a way, even if it wasn't the most comfortable.

"I see...Well that's fine. I'll admit I don't know every game in here, but I know some of the simpler ones at least. And if you're wondering, there are games that aren't Dueling-related." he would then say, leading her over to a kiosk where he would slide a card in before pressing a few buttons. From the slot popped out dull-colored metal tokens, embossed with the arcade's name and logo on each face.

"These are what you use; each token is one credit. Most games only need one per play, but some will require more. A gimmick to get the kids to spend more money for some of their 'higher-end' stations." he would explain, deciding to start off simple by leading her over to a simple track that had a series of concentric rings at the end of it. "This is Skee-Ball. A simple game, but can be quite difficult to get the pitch just right. The objective of the game is something akin to darts, if you've ever played that: Try to land it in the center." He would then point to the different targets at the end, each one labeled with a point value, the bullseye at 40 and the target furthest away at 10 for a total of four possible scores. Sliding a token into the slit just in front of the ball chute, she would hear a catch release and three balls would fill the once-empty holder.

Taking one out, he would then heave the ball underhanded along the track...The base-ball sized orb rolling along until it hit the short ramp and sunk itself in the middle hole, the display showing 'BULLSEYE!' before showing the number '40'. Giving her a nervous grin he said, "Ehhh...That was luck, I swear. But anyway, does that make sense? You get a total of nine balls, and you rack up as many points as possible." He would then hold up another ball and give it to her saying, "Give it a shot."

Fayth's own bold move hadn't escaped her. Nor did the realization she was being very selfish. And under normal circumstances, she would have apologized. Maybe later ... maybe. Right now, though? She needed this - at least, some part of her was convinced about that.

I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, she thought, noticing the hesitation on Jack's behalf.

But ... that was fair. Hell, he was being more generous than she expected, truthfully. It would have been easy for him to scold her, if not outright shove her away.

So when Fayth felt Jack wrap his arms around her instead, the weakest of smiles appeared, though it remained hidden courtesy of his shirt.

Though she hadn't been able to voice it, that had been one of her fears, one of the very things tormenting her. While she wasn't the only Signer, wouldn't it be simpler - in concept, of course - to take these fights on alone? Riskier, definitely. But if Yusei or Jack - or any of the others, honestly - had to help her ... and then got killed for it ... she couldn't handle that.

"Thank you ... " she softly whispered. Even after getting so much sleep, all the carrying of her burdens caught up. Finally, they began to feel lighter. Not much, but enough for ample fatigue to grasp her. Within minutes, Jack would feel her arms slump down on top of the sheets. An observation revealed poor Fayth had literally cried herself to sleep - something she definitely hadn't done before. Not even the day she lost her sight.

Sobbed, yes. Absolutely. But not to this degree.

"I think ... he had he right idea. Not to say everyone here is spoiled, mind you. But ... well .... we kinda have to become self-sufficient. So it's nice to hear that even though he didn't have to force that upon you, he opted to anyway."

Then again, 'tough love' was another concept Shivini was very accustomed to. Mainly from Yuna, though everyone in the base had at least one version of it. Some more harsh, and literal, than others.

A brief walk through the arcade would lead them to ... some sort of machine? Her head tilted curiously as the question 'What's this do?' all but appeared on her forehead.

"O-Oh ... huh. So ... you have to use a different kind of currency?"

Lord, did her face blush. Her body held the physical appearance of her age, thankfully; but anyone close enough to hear her ask that may question if she was ten years younger. "Interesting. I see."

It was borderline impossible to hide behind Finlay; but god help her if Shivini didn't try to at least keep her face from being seen.

Once again, he'd stop, this time in front of one of the many games. "Skee-ball ... " she repeated, listening carefully to the explanation. Her head would til again, though his time for a maybe not-as-obvious reason. "Why are you sounding nervous about being good? It's not like you're one-upping me, if that's what you think. Besides ... I'm competitive. I can get at least one bulls-eye, easy!"

Waiting first for Finlay to move aside, Shivini would reach down and toss the remaining balls. It likely would be amazing the very first one did not find its way into the '10' spot. Instead, it fell in the twenty points area. The next produced thirty points, then twenty again, and finally hitting ten.

The next three tosses, however, would be something that maybe had never been done in this arcade before; three bulls-eyes in a row.

"Aha!" Shivini cried, looking torn between rather proud and just a tad annoyed that the last two balls both collapsed in the ten spot.

Well, at least it wasn't a horrible performance all around, she thought, deciding to focus on the more positive feelings and reactions.

"That was actually really fun. Is this your favorite game here?"

"It's alright...Figured I could at least do something since one of your traumas was my fault in part." he would reply, keeping her close until he felt her slacken. Pulling away, he would see that she was breathing softly and rhythmically.

"She fell asleep" he mused, not able to help but smile at the innocence of it; even with her training, it seemed that even she could only take so much. Why he could remain so calm, even he didn't know; in truth, he wasn't really sure how to feel. The threat didn't seem real enough, perhaps? Like, he knew it was there but didn't see the point in worrying about it?

No...Even that didn't seem adequate. But, for right now, he would just help Fayth lie down, taking a spare blanket and laying it over her prone form. His hand lingered for a moment as he stood up, patting her shoulder a few times before getting up. The door ever so slightly closing behind him as he would leave her to rest on her own; she would know that if she needed to find him, he wouldn't be far away.

"I know...It's just that some people will get that impression in situations like this. Was just worried I would have come across as a show-off or something, you know?" he would say, being bluntly honest about it. But she seemed to recognize that wasn't the case, which he was thankful. "A-anyway, yeah, these use tokens to stop people from trying to cheat the machines with their own coins...Or at least that's what I think they do. Never really asked, come to think of it."

And besides, it wasn't like he spent all his time here. More often than not, he would be down at the library reading about ancient civilizations or doing research on other topics as a way to wind down. But, this was something he wanted to share with Shivini, if only to find something they could do together. And besides, even if her first tosses weren't stellar...As she said, she hadn't played this game before.

But he did raise a brow in surprise when she got three bullseyes back-to-back-to-back...Something he'd never seen anyone do. A low whistle left as he would say, "You sure you never played? I think you might have just set a record. You got one, like you said...And then two more right after it." he would tease her, slipping another coin into the track she was using and one into the track right next to her. "To answer your question: I don't play a lot, but mostly whenever I have a free moment. It's a simple game, especially if you don't play with the intent to win anything." Speaking of that, he forgot that these things printed tickets for prizes at the counter. "Oh right...Forgot about the tickets. The prize counter isn't something I normally focus on, as I usually just give any tickets I might win to the kids that come here more often than myself...But maybe you might like a souvenir to take back?"

Picking up a ball, he then said, "How about a friendly competition? Gentleman's wager, of course. No stakes of any kind, except respect for whoever does the best. Deal?" A confident but playful smile on his face. He wouldn't go so far as to say 'loser buys lunch' or something like that. He had a surprise planned for her to do that; it wasn't anything super high-class but he imagined she wouldn't have had a place to eat like this in the Satellite.

"Hmm? And why would they react that way?"

Maybe ... there was a more relevant question; one which soon followed her first inquiry.

"Why should they care? Not like any of them are accompanying us on this date."

And with that, Shivini would shrug; not at all minding what anyone who heard may or may not think. Just to help prove her point. Sure, people in the Satellite had their ... flaws. No question about that. But it seemed like quite a few people from the Tops were really confusing, and even a tad hypocritical. And in situations like this? That was kinda annoying, frankly.

Thankfully, Shivini was able to shake the more pessimistic thoughts away, turning her attention back to Finlay's answers, explanation on the tickets, and finally ... his bet.

"Hehe. I'm sure that I'm a fast learner. But yes, I'm positive I've never played before. My main inquiry is are you sure you wanna give me that challenge?"

The faintest hint of a teasing smirk spread over her lips as she watched him move beside her. If there had been anymore doubts, Shivni was as confident he wanted this as she did the moment Finaly would offer an affirmative answer to her somehow. "Alrighty then ... you asked for this!"

Nine balls later, she would lift her head and look to see her score of 220.

Hell yeah! she thought, looking over beside her. And feeling her mouth fall agape as the numbers "240" reflected in her eyes. Shivini looked between Finlay's score ... and then her own .... back again. For a few moments, she even tried to go over the math in her head, as if she questioned the machine. And when she realized it was right ... she elicited a small sigh.

"Damn. And that was a good score, too. Well, it was a gentleman's bet ... kinda glad we agreed to that. Hehe ... not bad, on a more serious and friendlier note. You're good."

"Pride...Arguably the most lethal of the seven sins, in my opinion. They get this notion that you're trying to show them up, was all." Finlay would reply; though he had a feeling she would already know that. It was too easy for a lot of people to be upset over even minor things, let along accidentally getting a perfect shot on his first try.

Regardless, he would grin as she accepted his challenge. The sounds of the balls rolling along the track quickly drowned out any other distractions. He got kind of worried around the middle, when she and he seemed to be tied in scoring...But then they would both throw their last balls at around the same time, the buzzer sounding off as the final scores would display on the message boards above the tracks.

Wow...220 to 230. To say that was a close match would be an understatement.

"Well...I can safely say you're a fast learner Shivini. That was really well done for your first time!" he would compliment her, not bothering to mention the conditions of their game. He flushed a little as she complimented him, adding "Eh-he...Thanks. Maybe I've spent more time here than I thought, though..." He thought back; no, he didn't come to Game Paradise that often. But maybe he would save it for more distressing times?

"I'm not kidding though Shivini, that was impressive on your part as well." he would say, pointing down at their feet to see they both had a stream of tickets laying out from the machine. It was here that he got an idea; the prize counter sometimes rotated out their selection of statuettes. But they didn't have enough tickets yet...And from here, he could spy something he did want to get her. Something he thought she might appreciate, even if it seemed a bit of a rip-off (which he knew it was).

"Did you want to play again? Or try another game perhaps?"

"Well yeah, but ... "

... Nah. No sense in continuing to pry for an answer Finlay likely wasn't completely sure about himself. People were just that complicated in the Tops. Maybe not everyone, but enough that Shivini could silently agree on that observation. She'd leave it on that and merely focus on the game. Now that it was over, however, she found herself contemplating on what to do next.

Tempting as it was to try again ... maybe later. When she was alone and not feeling as if she would risk forcing Finlay to repeat doing the exact same game too many times. It'd likely get exhausting, and the Amazoness user wouldn't blame him much if he felt that way sooner than later.

Luckily, she was eager to try some more new games, so it made giving her answer easier.

"I'm up for trying something else," Shivini replied, smiling as she would walk behind Finlay once he began leading the way to another game. "Heh ... thanks for the praise. That being said, choose the next one wisely. Who knows what I may end up doing for any future challenges you propose."

Before she got too far, however, Shivini had to turn around. She almost missed it; however, seeing Finlay holding his tickets reminded her she'd damn well nearly forgotten her own. Fortunately though, it caused her to miss Finlay spying the prize he was eyeing, keeping her oblivious to his plans.

" ... I umm ... I'm gonna have to get used to that. Okay. Now I'm ready. Promise."

Flashing a nervous but otherwise happy grin, Shivini would resume walking next to her date.

"Excellent! I know of a few other games that you might enjoy...Though I have to warn, one of them can be fairly aggravating." he would say with a grin, leading her over to some of the other stations. There was a game similar to the skee-ball tracks, but this was just shooting as many basketballs as they could through the net in a certain period of time. Along with that, they would then come to a track-style game where they would have to guide a ball through a series of obstacles until it reached the end.

If she didn't see the game that would likely cause frustration...She would now, especially since each obstacles was essentially a gear-cog that had each set of passable teeth get smaller and more rapidly spun about. Neither of them would hit the jackpot, but Shivini would get the closest to it and win even more tickets.

The last few games would be more digital competing against virtual opponents. No tickets involved, just getting scores on the board. One of which was a racing style game, with the tracks being Memorial Stadium, Urban Zone and Central Tops. Of course, he knew there were duel stations that they could do...But he wanted to take focus off Dueling, since there had been a fair bit of stress involving that. Once they were done, that's when Finlay would say, "Hey, uh...Shivini...Lemme see your tickets...And close your eyes...I'll be right back."

And with that, he would come back a few moments later, saying "Ok...Now hold out your hands, but don't open your eyes yet." Only when the package would be felt against her hands would he then say, "Alright...Now you can open." Rubbing the back of his head, he just said, "I know it's just a toy...But I figured you might like something to take back." In her hands would be a four-inch ceramic (and quite intricately detailed) figurine of one of the more popular Amazoness monsters, Amazoness Paladin. From the sword in its hands to the cloak that covered its shoulders, it seemed like quite the well-crafted piece. Its entirely encased in a box, only visible through the plastic panel on the front.

"I...uhm, hope you like it..."

"Ohh, they can't be that bad. Let's see though, shall we?"

Being an almost literal Amazoness made the basketball game simple for Shivini. Almost laughably so. In fact, her performance seemed to get the attention of a young boy whom had to be barely seven, if even that. The poor lad tried ... but obviously lacked the height advantage Shivini had. Before they moved on, Shivini would take another coin and pay for the boy to try again. This time, however, she'd hoist him up in the air, gently but firmly holding him high up in the air, lowering him when he needed to get another basketball.

"There ya go! Go for it!"

This wouldn't give him a perfect score, as he'd still need to make the baskets. It did, however, allow the child a chance to get more tickets, which did indeed seem to be what he was truly going for. Gauging from the look on his face as Shivini set him down, he seemed to get enough for something, causing him to smile widely.

"Thanks, lady!" he happily exclaimed, hugging her - well, tried to. It didn't really reach her midsection and ended up getting her upper leg. But it was the thought that counted, in Shivini's mind.

His assumption would prove to be right, as Shivini elicited a few 'grrr' noises during that game. Particularly at the last target, when she kept getting so close to the damn jackpot.

Unfortunately, whereas Yuna could become - under normal circumstances, of course - her own card, she didn't have that ability. Least of all with Amazoness Archer ... it'd probably make hitting the bulls-eye easier, although also a bit more ... awkward. For everyone around her.

Smirking at the thought, she'd somewhat eagerly move away. Staying at a game that was making her frustrated wouldn't do her good, so Finlay would have an easier time than he guessed in leading her away. After playing a few more virtual games, racing or otherwise, Shivini elicited a loud "Wheeeew", grinning downward at Finlay.

"We need something like this. This has been really fun!"

Her head tilted as she heard his request.

"Um .... alright. I feel kinda silly, but ... sure."

And man did she ever feel so out-of-place. She could hear quite a few people whispering around her, causing her face to flush slightly. Tempting as it was to open her eyes and verbally retort, though, she ignored the remarks and continued patiently waiting. Part two would arrive as Finlay returned.

"This must be quite the surprise if you're going through so many steps," she half-teased and half-earnestly observed, obediently putting her hands outstretched and open in front of herself.

Finally, Finlay would give her the go-ahead.

In her hands was an Amazoness figurine - something that even if she hadn't forgotten her tickets may very well have been missed. Amazoness Paladin, to be specific. Simply because the thought of prizes hadn't gone through her mind.

"Like it?" she repeated, moving her head from side to side. "I love it. That's really sweet. Thank you!"

And without thinking on her next action in any regard, she leaned down and gave Finlay's cheek a gentle kiss.

It had been for a variety of reasons that he'd gotten her this gift, but mostly it was because she was just an amazing person in general. And it showed the most when she gave the smaller kid a boost in landing shots in the basketball game; few people would even think to do such a thing, and fewer still would go ahead and actually do it. Despite her 'rough' appearance, Finlay could see quite clearly that she had a heart of gold. And that alone was enough for him to want to be near her.

"Sorry about all that; it was honestly kind of spur-of-the-moment. I saw it when we were playing skee-ball...." he would say, flushing just a little as she complimented his gift...Though that tinge of red soon turned into a full-blown blush as he felt her lips contact his cheek. And for a few moments, he would be completely stunned by it. Unable to move or even reply coherently.

Giving a cough to clear his suddenly tight throat, he then replied in a low voice, "W-well...I'm glad you do...Eh-he...." In truth, she was the first woman to kiss him on the cheek like that. Even if he had dated before, no one had ever actually kissed him. Hugged, certainly, but never kissed.

"S-so....Anyway, I'm feeling kind of hungry. I know this place that's not too far away. In walking distance, actually...Did you want to go?" he would then ask.

Once she would give her answer in the affirmative, he would lead them out of the arcade...And just a few moments later, they would arrive at a small but rather well-styled place called The Eclipse. The sign at the front stated that they could see themselves, so Finlay would have them sit on the outdoor patio. It was actually fair cool out, and with where the restaurant was situated, there was almost no noise from the traffic and no wind to rustle their clothes.

"It might not look like much...But the food here is absolutely amazing. It's a European style bistro, so expect a good deal of variety when it comes to the menu." Finlay would explain, being greeted by their server. "I won't lie; unlike the arcade, this place is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. I come here a fair bit...More than I should really, haha."

Shivini merely smirked, seemingly pleased she was able to catch Finlay off guard. It was a really small - and to certain people, very petty - achievement. But that likely came with hailing from the Satellite. Things that would otherwise be looked at as borderline significant were actually very, very important to most of the residents there. Herself included.

"You're welcome~" she replied in a sing-song voice, nodding happily at the idea of lunch.

"That'd be great! In my haste to avoid being late, I skipped breakfast ... "

Accidentally, but the fact was it'd happened all the same.

"Anyway, don't worry about the walking part. How do you think I found ya after getting off the boat?"

All the way to the restaurant, she kept her new figurine held tightly but gently in her hands. On any other given day, she wouldn't have minded a breeze here or there. There was still a month or two before autumn arrived, after all. However, with how small and light the mini-Paladin was, it'd likely get blown away. After all the .... well, maybe not tickets necessarily. But time and effort, most definitely, Finlay had put into getting it in the first place, she didn't want to be reckless and lose it mere moments after receiving it.

A sly smirk would cross her lips as Finlay would explain where he'd taken her. Only after they were alone, however, would she speak up.

"Silly. Do you forget where I come from? Aspects like appearances mean literally nothing to me. Takeshi was easily one of the best duelists in the Fortune Cup; yet, prior to Goodwin revealing that, no one knew, you know? That kinda applies with everything about us. That being said ... I doubt you would have taken me to a place with horrible meals."

Shivini even managed to giggle softly despite using Takeshi as an example, helping hint to Finlay she wasn't bothered by mentioning her comrade.

"Anyway ... what's it mean to be at a 'bistro', exactly?"

Now her face went back to having some red on it. She almost considered half-jokingly suggesting the next date being used to make her less ignorant with some sort of lesson session. ... Nah. That'd bore the hell out of him, probably. Shivini definitely wouldn't blame Finlay if he reacted that way, at any rate. So for now, it simply stayed a thought that lingered in her mind.

Taking advantage of the lack of wind, she would place the figure down on the table, smiling as she snuck glances at it every now and again.

Finlay was kind of glad to see her holding her figurine so close; even if it was just an arcade prize, he felt like he'd done something really nice for her. Well and truly.

But when she flushed after asking what a bistro was, he would just smile at her. Placing a hand on her shoulder after they would be led to sit down, Finlay would just say, "You know, Shivini...It's alright to not know things." Of course, he wouldn't say it loud enough to draw any attention, just at a sufficient level to let her know that he was being truthful about that statement. And despite what her mind might have been thinking, he would have absolutely no qualms about teaching her things she might have missed out on while being from the Satellite.

After all, if even a quarter of the things he'd heard about it where true, then there was little to nothing for anyone to do over there except work, join a Duel Gang, be a shut-in, or be shaken down for money. Or...Up until recently, be imprisoned at the Facility for any number of reasons.

"Besides, your comment about appearances? That's exactly what a bistro's all about: Simplicity and modesty." he would then explain, motioning to the fact that there were no 'white-linen' tablecloths. Aside from the modern splendor that he was sure many Satellite residents spread rumors about, this place would likely appear surprisingly rustic and old-fashioned to someone like Shivini.

"In its original Parisian meaning, it's a small restaurant that serves a very basic menu. Not meant to be fancy, just a place that's down-to-earth about the food they serve and the experience they provide. Different from the brasserie, which is more akin to what you might call a brewpub. Both are similar in that they're very informal places." he would continue to explain, showing her one of the menus. This one happened to combine both French and British items, like steak frites, pate de foie with brioche, beef and stout stew over potatoes, and even bangers and mash. There was also salads such as Nicoise and Lyonnaise variants, for those looking for more vegetables in their meals. "I know some of these items might sound....complicated, but in truth they're very basic plates. All the same, it will fill you up quite nicely."

It was here that they were then approached by a dark-haired male holding two glasses of water, setting it down between them, "Hello, welcome to the Eclipse. My name is Alexandre and I'll be taking care of you this afternoon. Can I get you started with anything?" Afterwards, they would end up starting with a cheese and charcuterie plate - which Alexandre would explain was just a small sample plate of different cured meats and cheeses - with Finlay ordering a small glass of sparkling water to drink.

"So...I know we've talked about this, Shivini...But is there anything in particular you want to know more about, Shivini? What are some things you do where you live?" he would then ask her after their waiter left; the next date they would go on, he would try his very hardest to have it be something that she liked to do. That she was interested in.

"You know? If you'd met me ... hmm ... several months - definitely years - ago, I'd be more inclined to agree with you. But it's exactly because of certain things that have happened recently, directly or otherwise to me, that ... I can't agree with that. Not anymore."

A slight frown mingled in with her smile.

"Shame, too. Ignorance certainly used to be blissful. But now? It's kinda getting sad .... and to a point where I need to ... remedy my lack of general knowledge, somehow."

At least vocabulary didn't seem to be an immediate need. Still, given what she'd hinted already and with Finlay already knowing a few things she was implying, it was relatively simple enough to start understanding concepts she wished to work on. Maybe even a bit of the 'why' question also. Shivini's smile widened as she looked directly into Finlay's eyes.

"I definitely appreciate the reassurance, but umm .... no. It really isn't okay anymore. For now though, I'm content to simply focus on this date."

Her head nodded in acknowledgement as she began scanning the menu. Hardly any of the food items sounded like they made sense. Delicious, at least; that was certainly a plus. But it was hard to start figuring out what to consider ordering when Shivini felt like she was staring at a coded message instead of a menu.

"I'll ... have to take your word for it. Because ... "

Luckily, the waiter gave arriving gave Shivini a perfect reason not to finish uttering what likely would have been a rather lame-sounding excuse.

"I'll go with some sparkling water myself. Food wise ... mind if we have a few more minutes? Thanks."

Only after Alexandre left did Shivini giggle softly.

"What do I want to know more about? Maybe the better question is what I don't want to learn more about. And even then, I don't know that answer off the top of my head. Right now? I suppose translating this menu, because I'm seriously having a hell of a ---"

Her cheeks flushed slightly as she quickly corrected herself.

"This .... is feeling ridiculously complicated. Let's leave it at that."

Though not as often as Yuna, Shivini did curse. She was definitely used to hearing more colorful terminology around her, and ... if Finlay didn't know it before, now he definitely did.

"As for what I do? Not enough in the relaxing department, that's for sure. I .... "

A few more moments would pass by before Shivini elicited a defeated sigh.

"It's complic --- no. That's not true. It's more like ... I don't know how you'd take the real answer. I'm sorry. When I feel more ready to relay that answer, I will. I ... don't think today will be that day. If it helps though, it isn't technically anything illegal. By Sector's standards, yes. But in actuality? It isn't."

Then again, it was relatively easy for her to say that. Seldom, if ever, did Shivini use actual weapons. Unfortunately, it was that very link she had with both Yuna and Hotsuma that, more than much else, was keeping her from telling Finlay what she did back in the Satellite. They'd already had a brief talk on why the 'guilty by association' crime mattered. And almost like how Yamichi was with Ling, Shivini was feeling almost the exact same way.

Finlay tried to smile, but only succeeding in weakly doing so; he wished she wouldn't be so hard on herself. He couldn't imagine they had fare like this in the Satellite; of course, he would never be able to survive over there if it was even half as rough as he'd heard. No, he was a Topsider...Far too soft for many areas in the Satellite. That being said, he hoped she would at least allow him to teach her about these sorts of things.

"Shivini, you know I won't pressure you to talk about anything you don't want to. You decide when you're ready, and I promise I will happily listen." he would say, placing a hand gently on her own once more. If only to try and reassure her that no matter what she might tell him, he wasn't about to leave her now. Even if she was 'rough' compared to most women in the Tops, it was in fact that very thing which drew him to her. She had an aura of mystique surrounding her...Plus, he knew it was rather taboo to associate oneself between the Tops and the Satellite.

So, if only because adding the proverbial thumbing of the nose to what others thought of someone dating a Satellite resident would be worth it - on top of Shivini being a charming and personable woman to boot, he would gladly stay by her side.

"But...How about this, since I can see this bothers you? What if I try to help you learn about these sorts of things? Would that be acceptable?" he then asked her, his expression showing an honest and somewhat earnest desire to show her this other side of the world she lived in. "For starters...I can help explain what some of these items on the menu are...."

And without really giving her time to consider, he started by explaining what were: Pureed meats that contain some amount of liver, this case being goose liver for the restaurant. Brioche being a type of buttery bread that was toasted and used to serve the pâté on. He explained that this was a type of 'forcemeat', which was just a fancy term for meat that was mashed together by forceful mixing. Steak-frites was probably the simplest dish, as it was literally just steak and fried potatoes, but the steak was thinly cut to preserve the chewy and tender mouthfeel.

He then added the salads might sound complicated, but it had mostly to do with where they came from: Salade Lyonnaise, for example, was from the French city of Lyon, and Salade Niçoise was a type of summer salad that came from the city of Nice.

It was here that he realized he might have started to ramble, and just grinned sheepishly, "Eh....Sorry, I probably just confused you even more, huh..." Rubbing the back of his head, he then asked, "So....Any questions? Eh-he...." But it was here he did realize something, and called over Alexandre.

"Yes, hello? Are we ready to order?"

Finlay just said, "Sorry...Not quite yet. My friend has some questions about some of the menu items...I tried to explain to her, but I think I'm doing a terrible job. Could you please...?" It was here that Alexandre smiled, "But of course! All you had to do was ask!" He then turned to face Shivini, "Now then, madame, was there anything that looks interesting? I'll do my very best to make sure you get an item you will thoroughly enjoy! Of course, I may be biased, but I think every dish here is magnificent!"

Rather than jerking or jumping at the sudden touch of Finlay's hand laying gently atop her own, Shivini simply glanced down at the sight. As if she were studying the display before her eyes which, to be fair, wasn't a completely incorrect assumption. She kind of was partially doing just that. And then, she smiled, lightly intertwining her hand with Finlay's and returning the gentle hold.

"I appreciate that. Thanks."

Her head would eagerly nod when he agreed to start with attempting to make the menu easier to comprehend.

"By all means, please!"

Unfortunately ... he was also right in noticing his efforts had backfired a bit. At least Shivini knew the poor guy really and truly hadn't tried on purpose to make this outing more frustrating. No, he had made genuine efforts to simplify the menu. Alas, Shivini was only human and partially because of that, there really was only so much she could begin to register and comprehend within the span of mere minutes.

"Well ... kinda, yeah. But I am grateful you're trying to help out."

Simultaneously, it was true she didn't wanna be stuck gazing and working on figuring this menu out all day. She doubted it'd actually take that long, but it wasn't something Shivini wanted to test out either. So even though she felt a bit embarrassed at first by his decision to call their waiter over, relief took over her pride and helped push it aside.

If you wanna learn, you're gonna have to accept this sort of assistance ...

Maybe not always from a waiter, no. But another person that wasn't Yuna, yes.

"It's okay, sir. I'm a bit biased with other things I enjoy myself, so no worries about that. Well ... "

Taking a moment to peek back down, she nodded and relayed her answers ... though likely made some errors with her pronunciation in the process.

"How are the steak-frites?"

"Ah yes, the steak-frites. One of our most popular items, and even more so back in France! The steak is cut quite thin, and then pan-seared so that it literally melts in your mouth! And the potatoes are like little nuggets of heaven, a perfect compliment." Alexandre would say excitedly; Shivini would notice that he had said it the same way she did, implying that she was indeed correct in her pronunciation of the words. Finlay raising a brow, "Oh, you're from France then? I've always wanted to go there." Alexandre just smiled, "Yes, I am from Bordeaux; though I do visit Nice and Lyon whenever I go back there."

Finlay just smiled as Alexandre would then continue to recommend items to her, assisting her as she needed it; once she was ready, he would then take their order, Finlay ordering the beef stew on mash before having the menus taken away, Alexandre providing Shivini with a decently-sized bottle of sparkling water and a glass of ice and Finlay just sticking with regular water. The appetizer would be a charcuterie platter, brought over only moments later; despite the simplicity of this place, this seemed rather extravagant if only due to the presentation. Spread out on a finished board of maple, there was a wide variety of hard and soft cheeses, cured and cooked meats, grapes and sliced pear, along with sliced toasted bread and crackers.

"Well, Shivini...Dig in! This is just one of two, after all. I will warn you in advance; some of these are a bit on the salty side." he would say, smiling at her as he took a slice of bread used and scooped some of the duck rillette near him and bit into it.

And when they would finish with that, that's when their entrees came; steam rose from the hearty bowl of stew, the sauce soaking into the provided bed of mashed potatoes. "Really reminds me of home...Er, home in Britain, I mean. Not here, eh-he" he then clarified the latter to Shivini, as he was sure that had come out rather awkwardly. Finlay took one bite and seemed to be in heaven, "I have to remember to ask Alexandre the recipe...Not that he'll just up and give it me, but I do want to know what he makes it with. There's something his cook adds that I can't put my finger on..."

And it was here that Finlay would then take a fresh spoon and scoop up some of the stew and mash, holding it to Shivini and saying "Here, try some! I think you'll like it a lot."

Shivini had to stifle a giggle. It seemed Alexandre and the MC had one particular trait in common. When they got especially enthusiastic about a particular topic, you could hear the passion in their voice. But then, that was honestly a nice change compared to being around tons of people that tended to look and sound all but dead. Plus, during times like now, it especially helped with another feat.

More specifically, convincing Shivini she had made the right decision. Because she didn't really opt to select anything else, even after the menu was better explained.

Granted, it still sounded a tad complex even after Alexandre helped out. Just not nearly as much.

"Thank you!" Shivini would call to the waiter as he left and took the full order for herself and Finlay.

Indeed, the platter looked like the food they'd ordered was anything but simple. Her mouth fell agape as she stared in awe. Even smiled after a few moments. "Is ... that another point of a bistro? To make food look more like art?"

Either way, this place had easily succeeded in that endeavor, intentional or not.

"No offense, but I didn't think you meant here. Your name isn't exactly -- "

But upon realizing the irony, Shivini's own face flushed slightly.

"Well ... that's not overly fair, I guess. Mine's not Japanese either. Nor do I really look it. A-Anyway, you didn't confuse me or anything. I think you did at least hint last time you weren't born here."

Admittedly, however, he hadn't said where from. So learning where Finlay hailed from was interesting to hear.

"Finlay honestly sounds a bit more Irish than British. But maybe that's just me."

As with all things, the meal would eventually come to an end. And when it did, Shivini stretched, slowly getting up to her feet and out of the chair.

"Mmm, that was really good. Thank you for this outing."

Home was always nice. But change was just as good. Some days, like today, even better.

"Hehe...You're actually not too far off one that. Finlay's a Scottish name, meaning roughly "blessed hero" in its old Gaelic roots. My mother, being a Scotswoman herself, decided her son should have a name of valiance...And thus, I was named Finlay." he then chuckled, implying that he was half-Scottish and half-English. "Cromwell is my father's last name, and my mother's married name."

And when their meal was over, Finlay kept true to his word and paid the tab plus a generous tip for Alexandre's helping Shivini. "I'm just happy I was able to find something for you to enjoy. Perhaps next time, if you like....I can show you where I work at?" He imagined it was getting late, and he did have to start heading back. His father would be in late tonight or early tomorrow, and he imagined his latest expedition would have him drowning in work.

Checking his watch, he then said, "Well...I suppose this is where we part ways then?" He was still a bit unsure of how to actually proceed...But he decided to chance it and sneak a quick kiss on her cheek. "I'll give you a call the next time I'm free alright? We can try to set something up later on!" And after a quick exchange of good-byes Finlay more than a little flushed by his own daring - they would part ways once more.

=========================================================================================================================

The next day, Yamichi and Ling would meet up; with everything that had happened, it was honestly best if they got out of here as quickly as possible. He hadn't know that Ling's parents were completely oblivious to her daughter Dueling on live television. Apparently also not remembering the fact that he'd kissed on said aired event, a happening that was almost certainly to have been seen by her parents if nothing else.

"Well, Ling...It's been fun, eh? But....Are you sure about this? What if they don't approve?" Yamichi then said; it wasn't today, but she'd expressed a desire to have him meet her folks. "And with what you're going to have to tell them...Don't you think we should wait?" He then shook his head, "Sorry...I just don't want you to potentially get in any more trouble if you have to. Your parents might not enjoy the fact that their daughter is dating someone who has no parents. Kind of carries a bad stigma with it, you know?"
