Ling's mind was going through a similar process - but with Fayth. Would they feel better if she were here? If she were the one dueling Jack? Had she done the right thing? Or was she originally right in considering giving Fayth the win?
Each unanswered rhetorical question made her tears fall down faster.
This isn't fair. I didn't set this up or anything .... why am I the one being lashed out at?
While Jack was still in his Standby Phase, she wiped her left arm hastily across her face, trying desperately to get rid of some of the wet stains on her face. Thankfully, she finished in time to push down on her disk. "Trap Card, Open! Magic Cylinders!"
And after he ended his turn, she'd pull the top card off. Good! She could finally get going on the more offensive portion of her deck!
"I'll summon Debris Dragon! And then I --- "
But when her disk refused to let her Synchro Summon, poor Ling had to do a double take. Now what had she done wrong? When she found the answer, Ling let out a frustrated sigh. This crowd was
not doing her any favors. None whatsoever.
God-fucking-damnit ....
" .... Just as I made my one major mistake with Fayth, there's mine against you. My next turn .... I will make it count. For now though, I'll shift my Keeper to defense mode. Turn end."

"Morningstar? You're certain?" Judai inquired.
The more stoic look that suddenly crossed his face indicated that even with Yusei and Luca not knowing who had accompanied her, he did. Vaguely, mind you, but it was more than not at all.
"I'm sure that's what he said, anyway. He didn't make himself seen even to me. I don't have many other 2 tribute Darklords in the deck. In fact, the only other one I have is Asmodeus. It didn't really feel or sound like Edeh Arae nor Ukoback. No. This was someone .... high up in the angelic ranks. That was the way he spoke and held himself, anyway."
"Hmmm. I was gonna say this simply because of the 'Darklord' part of his name. But if it really was Morningstar .... that's not his true name. Much like Celeste isn't yours."
"It isn't?!" Luca replied, clearly not having picked up on hearing a different name. Not before Yusei asked how
Fayth was doing instead of Celeste.
Fayth crossed her arms over her chest. If she could glare at him ... it'd be with a look that could almost literally kill him.
"Eh-hehe, sorry. But hey, I mean .... the others basically know. No sense in keeping it away from everybody, you know?"
" .... I suppose. And .... Goodwin definitely knows, that --- meanie."
Were Luca not in the room, she easily would have opted to call him what Fayth truly viewed him as; a bastard. But no. She'd already made that error in front of Crow. At his place, to make it worse. She wasn't gonna repeat that mistake in front of Luca nor Yusei. "Yes, though. Feel free to use Fayth, Luca. Long story short, I had to use a fake name. I promise, it was for a good reason though."
"Alright. I believe you."
And she did. Luca wasn't simply saying it just because. There was no malice, no deceit in that confession.
Fayth tilted her head .... and finally smiled. "I think I understand why its often believed the most pure people are children. Thank you, Luca."
A bit of color left her face as she heard Yusei ask to see the card. She couldn't place why, but Fayth was nervous. Would he appear right then and there? Honestly, even if he did, that wasn't her main fear. It was whether Yusei - or any of the others in the tent with her - would get hurt.
" .... Sure."
Pulling her deck out from her disk, she ran her fingertips across the top of her cards, stopping when the right name registered to her skin before handing it slowly over. While Judai looked over with Yusei, Fayth would pick up where the brunette left off.
"So, Judai ... you were going on about Morningstar not being his real name?"
"Ahhh, yes. My bad. Gomen. It's Lucifer. And ... well ... he's known for trickery."
"My turn to ask;
you're sure?"
"Yep. Yubel may be who I'm fused with, but I have seen and spoken with other spirits. One I personally met was Honest - yes, the same one in your deck. He gave me names a while back, Darklords and the more typical angels. Morningstar was among them."
" ... I won't lie. The abrupt decision to just now start talking with me - that has been on my mind. So, while I appreciate your concern, don't think I haven't been keeping that as a consideration."
"Well --- " Judai stopped, deciding she probably didn't want to hear that, unfortunately, Fayth really was one of the most preferred, and perfect, types of people fallens and demons especially loved to select and deceive; young, innocent women. Instead, he nodded, leaving it at that.
Before Fayth could pry and ask what he intended to say, she felt her card returned ... and then heard Yusei ask how she was feeling. Her head bowed slightly as she inserted her deck back into her disk.
"Physically? Exhausted. Most of the aches are gone, though it does still sting every now and again. Likely from all the consecutive activations. Honestly .... I'm a bit more disappointed than anything. I promised Jack this morning I'd get to him. And even with the vow Ling made to me ... hmmm .... it's not that I don't trust her. But it's not as .... rewarding, I suppose."
"Hey though .... you got real far. Probably more so than anyone would have assumed. You defied a lot of odds, all things considered, you know?" Judai tried to reassure Fayth.
Luca, meanwhile, would quietly press a spare water bottle she'd grabbed against Fayth's hand. "Umm .... not to be rude or anything but .... isn't it safer this way? With your shoulder and everything .... "
Fayth elicited a defeated sigh, unscrewing the cap and tatking a sip. "I won't deny that thought also kept going through my head. You're probably right. But ... I was ready to take that chance regardless." She'd pause briefly ... making sure no one else was about to walk in before adding, "If what I've been told is true ... then there is one saving grace, and it's been what has helped me accept the loss well enough. Apparently, Goodwin was trying to force the Crimson Dragon to appear. If any of us knew better what would happen once it did .... then I'd be more alright with this. As it is? That'd be as foolish as me playing with any cards that aren't usually ---- "
Well, fuck. May as well finish up, she thought. She'd forgotten - long enough - that Luca didn't know her background. Well ... Judai was, annoying enough, right. Everyone else knew a lot about her already. Why hide everything?
"Supposed to exist here. Namely my XYZ summon cards from my main deck."
