Yu-gi-oh 5Ds: Rise of Darkness and Corruption (Athene/ImaginaryMuse & Razgriz)

When Reiji disconnected, Jack too would look up to see the snowy-haired woman entering the room. How...No, when....did she get in, he wondered. Was he so engrossed in the talk that he missed her completely? He was normally more attentive than this; even so, she was at least a friend, and not a hostile adversary like Mukuro or even Kiryu trying to catch them off-guard. That...Wouldn't have ended well for anyone, regardless.

Jack would let them talk out their nights, trying to stifle a grin at Fayth's reaction to Fuyu drinking. All the same, he was glad she was back, keeping silent still as Fayth would then explain that Kiryu had returned; Fayth had told him of her fight against the man, so that would indeed make this next part easier, something he was more than glad for despite the terrible circumstances surrounding her victory.

"Well...It's as she said. I wanted to know more about Academia; and while I understandably learned little about their motive, I now am starting to get a better picture about why you're fighting them, having learned more about how they operate. And frankly? It disgusts me." he would start off. "As for Kiryu...I wish she was kidding. Her friend Yuna was captured and tortured by him. Revealing to her about how he knew and her Signer status, and made very clear his intent to find her, along with the others...Which would also include myself.

Jack then pulled up his jacket sleeve, showing the white-haired woman the mark on his forearm. "Understandably so, you weren't there due to having to work, but...Our marks were burning even stronger this time. Whatever event it is trying to tell us about, it is close at hand. And along with some other unwelcome news about your dimension's status...I had asked if Fayth would be alright in coming to stay with me. Not that I doubt your abilities or anything, Fuyu...Just that if she is a target, it would be wise to have more numbers on us. And you too, are obviously welcome to come along; as I explained to Fayth, I am willing to pay to break your lease if you so choose to do so. I have plenty of space as well as a sizable garage to store your Runners in as well."

While he was more than certain Fuyu might suspect his intent, he was fine with that; she would tell by his tone and the look on his face that he was serious about his offer. Deathly so, especially since it was now kind of leaving it to Fayth to clarify that whoever this 'Sora' was had likely found her identity and had compromised her secrecy in the Synchro Dimension.

Fuyu grinned. Well, well; sense could be found and obtained by this version of Jack. Who knew? Certainly not herself, and from what she'd heard prior to coming over here herself, neither had Fayth with hearing just how stubborn the man was. "Yeah annnnnnd it's a shit ton worse when you actually see how they go about everything. Not trying to make a pun against you, Fayth."

"Only because the words are from you, I know this."

It would only be when she learned just how far gone this new Kiryu was that finally, Fuyu had to sit down. "Tortured?" she repeated, looking between the two of them. " .... Are we talking the more standard methods, or .... ??"

"Very few of them," Fayth would reply, her voice having very considerably lowered. Already a hint the truth was anything but pleasant.

"Well .... if she relayed this news, she's alive. So it couldn't have been that bad, right?"

Fayth quickly moved her head from side to side. "She's just ... much stronger than me with that stuff. N-No, it was." A frustrated sigh passed her lips; why couldn't these disks transfer memories, flashbacks, or thoughts into them and upload them? It'd be much easier to do that over saying words and phrases like 'buried alive', 'constantly bound', 'malnourished' and every other horrid thing Yuna had to go through.

After taking a few moments to calm herself well enough, Fayth stood up, gently beginning to move past Fuyu. "I want to do this. The problem, Fuyu, is Kiryu knows about you. The second he finds one of us, he'll find us both if I stayed. And as far as I'm concerned? What Yuna got ... I'm going to get also. And I .... wouldn't be able to handle most of that nearly as well as her. Nowhere close .... and it'll be more so of a miracle if I live through any of it."

By now, the teasing expression had vanished. Genuine concern and a bit of anger could be seen instead. It didn't feel possible for this fucker to get worse upon reviving. Apparently, however, that seemed to be the case. And unfortunately? She was right about her own presence being known.

Before Fayth got too far away, Fuyu would put a hand on her comrade's shoulder, turn her around, and pulled her into an embrace. "Okay ... okay. You've made your point. I'd prefer seeing what you did for proof this bastard's really alive, but -- "

"No you wouldn't. Trust me on that much."

"Either way, it's not that I don't trust you. But with something like a person coming back from the dead? Well .... that's one of those things I'd rather have more concrete evidence about before just believing that sorta thing. However, considering whom this information came from, I'll go against my own preferred protocol. You matter more, given you're a Signer here. I'd be stupid to say no. Go get your stuff."

Fuyu ran a hand through her bright locks, sighing as Fayth moved away and went towards her room. She stared off where her friend had gone before finally turning and glancing over at Jack. "I originally had zero intentions of letting her out of my sight. Just as her mission was to speak with you and give all the warnings Reiji relayed, mine was to help her survive easier in this dimension. She's done really well adjusting to her blind state, but there's only so much she can do on her own. So I'm letting her do this .... because I'm going to instill as much faith and trust as she's doing so with you. Sadly, she's right. If we're both in the same place when Kiryu makes his move, it won't be good. So .... I'll decline and remain here. Hopefully, things won't become so bad I'll purposely have to use myself and this studio as bait. Yet if push came to shove .... better for that fucker to find only me than me plus Fayth. It goes without saying, but .... make this plan work."

"Don't you dare make me regret agreeing to this .... "

" ..... Do you keep forgetting I can always hear you, Fuyu?"

A faint smirk appeared as she turned and saw two dufflebags over Fayth's shoulders. "Have you been working out or something? Anyway, no. But I could always ask that same question about me and my talents with electrical devices. I'm guessing that's not quite everything?"

"About half, but a good enough start. Maybe .... two weeks to a month's worth of clothes."

Fuyu nodded, agreeing that was indeed a much better start than nothing. "Since I was out last night .... how'd everything go, anyway?"

"I'm .... I'm moving into the Top 4 tomorrow."

"Did you tell Reiji?"

"No! You startled me before I could!"

Fuyu chuckled softly, holding her hands beside her head. "Okay, okay. My bad. I'll pass that along for you - though it won't be much of a surprise for him to hear, I doubt. You only lack the rank of Lancer due to .... timing on Academia's behalf. The day he was going to announce new Lancers was when they started making moves against LDS. Thus as far as me and Reiji are concerned, you are one of us."

"Thank you."

"Careful on your ride back, okay? And get some rest - you're obviously gonna need it." Only after Fuyu watched Jack and Fayth exit the living room and vanish out of her sight did she begin working. Not that she wasn't exhausted - but the news had given her an adrenaline rush. And so, Fuyu was working on a back-up plan for her deck should hings become as dire as her risking death.

It was honestly kind of refreshing to see Fuyu return, and start teasing Fayth no less. More so when she expressed her distaste for the fact that Kiryu had come back to life...Somehow. Over these past few days, he'd seen a camaraderie that he'd once had. One that he'd thrown away with at least a couple of people. Maybe once this was all over...He could try to rebuild those bridges. He knew it likely wouldn't be easy, most of all with Yusei; their parting hadn't exactly been what one would call a 'friendly' one.

All the same, he was more surprised when Fuyu declined his offer, telling him to just take Fayth to his place. Granted her reasoning was sound, but...Would Fayth be alright with this? A question he would find answered relatively quickly, before long himself asking to carry one of Fayth's bags. He was sure Goodwin would object to showing such favoritism...But it was the least he could do...Unless this was what he was hoping for? He still hadn't forgotten how he'd asked him to keep an eye on her. "Goodwin...What exactly are you planning"

Regardless, they would soon end up back at Jack's mansion. Quite the lavish estate, really; granted, it was likely a perk of him being the Duel King that he was able to afford such a massive home. Thankfully, the paparazzi had seemed to be scarce today, so he was able to lead her indoors without much hassle. Though he was more than certain that he and Fayth would somehow end up in the Daily Duel; those reporters always seemed to have their noses in everyone's business.

In a bush on the side of the hill facing Jack's estate, a camera was indeed snapping away, the shutter whizzing as picture after picture was taken. "Well now..." said a voice, a head popping up once her task was complete, revealing itself to be none other than Angela Raines. "Such a shame Carly isn't around...But then again, less competition for me. Silly little girl could never get a scoop as juicy as this...Now what are you up to, oh King of Duels? And what's with you and this Yusei? You seemed awfully chummy when you gave him that card...Whatever it was. You've been doing all sorts of favors for people." she would muse. Well, she at least got her pictures; maybe with this, she could try to leverage herself to get more information. There was something going on with the Director and this tournament, and Angela was determined to find out what.

Giving herself a satisfied smirk, she then hopped down and got in her own car before speeding away. None of them the wiser to her presence.

"So...Here we are." Atlas would say, leading her to a spare room. Complete with dresser, an attached washroom, and even a plush king-sized bed. "Hopefully it's alright. As you can tell, I don't have many people over aside for social functions and the like."
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Unknown to them all, a third faction had been watching as well...A tiny spider watching with its multiple eyes as she would leave the residence, departing for Atlas' not-so-humble abode. Oh, the things it had transmitted back to a particular individual. This was more information than he could have ever hoped to attain.

"So...You're indeed from another dimension. Quite an advanced one too, if they can travel between them. How very interesting...Well boy, it seems your and Misty's intuition was quite right about her. I suppose you deserve some credit despite your indiscretion with the Yuna Takeda matter. Thankfully, her compatriots don't seem any more privy to us than the Signers might be. And Atlas, the arrogant fool, has just made this even easier. Two of them together? What an opportunity" Rutger would say to Kiryu, sitting within their base of the B.A.D. and watching a feed from a 'screen' created on a series of webs.

"Lord Rutger, it was wise of you to plant a drone spider within her residence; it seems her friend has attempted to try and lead us away from her. If I may, sire...We should send someone to dispatch her, especially if agents of this 'Pendulum Dimension' are pouring through." Demak would say, concerned that this 'Pendulum Dimension' could prove to be an unexpected wild card. Kiryu just laughed, "Did you not hear what she said though? Those agents are after her as well; with any luck, she might get offed before we even have a chance to get close. I say we let them distract her...And when she's vulnerable, that's when we take her down." Giving a sinister chuckle, he would sneer, "Oh, I can only imagine the pressure! Squeezed in tighter and tighter from all directions! Now I want to test myself against Fuyu....Have ol' Apu here crush her like an ant. Really twist the knife in her side."

Rutger tapped his fingers together, leaning back in his chair as he contemplated his options. He mustn't be too hasty, but he could see both their viewpoints; even so, it was too early to move. "Demak...Is Misty prepared for her next assignment?" Rutger asked, Demak bowing and replying "My lord, she's already in position. Her ability to revert to a more normal appearance will allow her to get close to this 'Takeshi' individual." Rutger only stated, "So far...Kiryu, your knowledge of the Satellite and ability to size up opponents has helped us greatly. But...If we do make Takeshi into one of us...Are you sure he'll be able to perform?"

Kiryu grinned, "Oh I'm sure; I'd bet my un-life on it! Hahaha!"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Back at the hotel, the guys were celebrating Takeshi, Ling, Fayth (who was not present) and Yusei moving forward. Yamichi seemed in a better mood, having talked to Takeshi again about how he wasn't upset at losing. Just that he couldn't give him a better match, something the brunette hadn't minded at all as he understood. And as it stood, they were all in the guy's room, having ordered room service.

"Well...We're almost here, lady and gentlemen." Takeshi said, grinning as he added "Gotta say, pretty even and strong group we've got here. Two powerhouse women, two powerhouse men! Tomorrow's going to be awesome!" Shimoda just smiled, "It really is; you guys are insane. Just wish I could fight one more time...But alas, was not meant to be." Yamichi smiled, "Hey man, you've got nothing to be ashamed of. You got a 5000 attack powerhouse out...Twice. Not many duelists can claim to have done so in one match."

Yusei said nothing at first, but added, "All the same, what Takeshi said was right. We have a real opportunity to show everyone why we've earned our spots in the final four. Whoever we face tomorrow, whoever *I* face tomorrow...Let's do what we've been doing, and just enjoy it."

Just as Fayth tended to do with Yusei, she'd keep an arm linked around one of Jack's. For the briefest of seconds, an odd sound made her turn her head. Unfortunately, she couldn't place what it was, nor where exactly it was coming from. The best was 'behind her', but that did nothing to narrow down what her ears had picked up on.

Maybe nothing?

Hopefully. Today had been tiring enough as it was, and hell, the night wasn't completely over.

For the time being, the noise was ignored as her head moved back in front of her, the pace of her walking moving so she could continue walking alongside the King. After going through several doors and hallways, she felt Jack finally stop.

"Well," she began to reply, smiling wearily as she allowed her one bag to fall to the floor, "I'd be picky if I were in your spot, too. Probably the smart thing to do, honestly." Jack would finally see how Fayth managed to walk around any place without tripping or looking like a fool. She slowly began walking around, stopping when she felt anything that would need to be etched into her memory, and made sure to recall exactly where it was.

For this room, the key items would be the door leading to the adjacent bathroom, the shower, towel rack, and toilet inside said washroom, the bed, and the dresser - which had been where her own bag was placed.

"Quite frankly? Even if I could judge, it's not really my place to do so. That being said, this definitely is more than satisfactory. Thank you ... ummm ... I'm gonna unpack a bit, then wash up. I can ... I can get everything fine."

There was another thing - a hint her slightly crimson face probably began giving away. And that was she didn't want Jack to see her more intimate clothing, primarily the lingerie. Though there were a few nightgowns that were bold. Nothing too 'out there', but enough that no one would assume Fayth of all women would dare wear.

"Feels odd without her," Fuyu muttered, still smiling despite being alone.

However, after working about ten more minutes, she stopped ... and looked around with narrowed eyes.

It hadn't bothered her, nor really felt as strong as before. But now? There was definitely an unwanted sensation; the kind that implied she was being watched. Carefully setting her duel disk down, Fuyu tapped her fingers atop her kneecaps, exposed due to wearing a skirt as part of her uniform. She scoffed at herself as her mind went to something else she'd never paid much heed to.

That man who just happened to 'bump' into Fayth.

"Fucking knew it. 'Accident' my ass."

Unfortunately, she hadn't gotten much time to place a name or even face on who the bastard was - which made them a wild card. Either way, the possibility of it being a foe - regardless of which dimension they hailed from - was enough to make the Ice Barrier user stand up and begin turning all he lights off. While it wouldn't make watching her completely impossible, it'd at least make understanding what she was up to much harder.

Granted, they'd have to be technical geniuses to even start adding two and two together.

But this .... was something she absolutely couldn't risk having anyone else learn about. No one against her, anyway. his was something she'd inform Reiji of - likely upon completing her project.

Fuyu would then walk calmly back towards her duel disk - the only real source of light since it was still on and being used - and walked out of the living room. She entered a different area, likely her own room, before shutting the door. So lest the spider found a way to watch her from a better angle, the unseen assailants were now effectively cut off from further watching her work.

Ling sighed, taking what must have been the sixth or so glance at the digital clock. It was getting late. Close to 20:00, steadily inching even closer to 21:00 PM.

And yet, she still hadn't heard from Fayth. That was what worried her. Even if her roommate was going to remain elsewhere, surely she would have notified someone .... wouldn't she?

Unless ....

Her head quickly shook. She didn't even want to start thinking that prick Mukuro had somehow gotten out of his cuffs and found her. At this rate, she only had one choice to help determine if she needed to worry or not anymore. Standing up, Ling would first pocket her own keycard away before exiting the hotel room. Two steps later, she was standing in front of the guys' suite. Ling would knock, and the door would be swiftly opened up by Judai.

"Hey. Hope I'm not intruding but umm ... may I come in while we're all still awake?"

"Nah, not at all. Come on in."

After being allowed in, she looked among the other guys.

"Has Fayth - Celeste - contacted any of you? Because she's not back yet and frankly? I am starting to worry a bit."

Jack raised a brow as she would seem to start to 'feel' her way around the room. Likely to get a mental layout, but it was kind of interesting to watch. So...That was how she did things then. How peculiar.

However, he would snap to attention a bit as she gave her subtle hint for him to leave; giving a nod, Jack would turn to leave, but not before saying "By the way...You might want to reach out somehow and let the others know that you're staying here tonight. They might be getting worried about you." And with that, he would leave the room and herself to her devices.

Of course...There was something else was nagging him. If Kiryu really had come back, why would he target Fayth? And moreover...Who were these people he was associated with? Fayth had mentioned he was dressed in a similar manner to them. And more and more, he was starting to think that they were this 'evil' the Signers were supposed to fight. But worrying about it right now, wouldn't do them much good.

And with it getting late, he would decide to turn in after a quick dinner. But he wasn't up for cooking anything; thankfully he had a few cups of Oshiruko Noodles that would be easy enough to prepare. Not that he really knew how to cook in the first place; more often than not, one of his servants would make a meal for him. But with it being so late, he could at least boil water.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

No one expected Ling to come yet; she had said she would wait up for Fayth and let them know she had gotten back. So it wasn't a surprise at first when she would finally join them. " However, when she would then go on to announce that Fayth had yet to return, no one really knew what to say. "I'm sure she's just running late; oi, Yusei, didn't you see her stay behind with Atlas?"

Yusei nodded, "Yeah, but I figured he just wanted to check on her after the Mukuro incident. I'm not normally a foul-minded individual....But I am damn glad he isn't part of the tournament anymore."

Yamichi would then turn to Ling, saying with a small smile "So...That's a no, by the way. She hasn't talked to any of us yet." Shimoda then added, "But, she's a lot tougher than she lets on; I'm sure she's fine. She'll let us know if she's in trouble." Takeshi then added, "All the same...If she doesn't come around, it couldn't hurt to make sure something didn't happen."

" ... True. Yeah, sure. I'll try getting a hold of her first. Um .... "

A tired grin would be seen as Fayth lifted her head and looked towards Jack.

"Thanks again ... for everything, Jack. It ... really is greatly appreciated."

After his footsteps moved far enough away, Fayth began multi-tasking; unpacking as she said while trying to get a hold of Fuyu. A slight frown crossed her face as the very thing she'd been afraid of seemed to have happened. Poor Fuyu was likely asleep by now. Not overly amazing.

After three failed attempts, Fayth decided to stop, allowing her friend to get her own needed sleep. Slipping her disk off her arm, Fayth finally stood up, draping a nightgown over her arm while setting the disk and deck atop her dresser. Right before she entered the washroom, however, the sounds of rummaging for food caught her ears, and consequently made Fayth realize she, too, was hungry. Very much so, in fact.

Her head nodded a she mentally agreed on a to-do list and walked inside. Closing the door behind her, Fayth stripped, turning the water on after setting her dirty clothes and outfit she intended to change into down.

Ling nodded, not looking overly happy. But at the same time ... they were probably right.

And while she almost argued if she could physically handle herself fine, hearing Fayth had been with Jack was good enough reassurance for now.

After several hours of chit-chatting, push had come to shove. She wasn't back. So ... they would have to wait. If, come the morning, Fayth didn't arrive, then questions could be asked.

Please let her be fine, Ling silently prayed, waving bye and good night to all the male duelists.

"Ngh .... "

As Fayth felt the sun finally beam down on her, she rolled slightly in her sleep. After the shower, she'd joined Jack and eaten a dinner. Very light, yes - but at least she hadn't gone to bed on an empty stomach. A blessing in its own rights to be certain.

As she slowly sat up, the covers fell away, revealing what she'd opted to wear to bed.

Taking advantage of the fact she didn't hear Jack awake yet, Fayth lifted her blindfold up high enough to rub any lingering sleepy dust from near her sockets. The cloth would promptly be moved down afterwards, hiding the work Sora had performed on her months ago once again. A bit more thinking .... and finally, Fayth opted to begin rummaging around for a new outfit to change into.

To make up for not having found a hamper the night before, she used one of her dufflebags as a make-shift replacement.

Somewhat reluctantly, Fayth forced herself to get out of bed, sank to her knees, and started going through the uppermost drawer - where her lingerie resided.

Ling, meanwhile, had woken up bright and early, like she tended to. Fatigue easily helped her get the well-needed rest despite being worried about her roommate.

A quick shower later and she would meet up with the guys downstairs for breakfast, her smile especially widening as Yamichi came into view. "Morning guys!" she greeted, sitting beside the tech.

Jack Atlas, meanwhile, would leave soon after Fayth had finished getting herself ready; he would go stand out on the second-floor patio outside his room for a bit. Watching as the day finally faded into full night, the moon glowing that alabaster white. The Mark, which had burned oh so harshly this day, was finally silent; was all well for the moment?

He knew that the answer was no; something unsettled him. Whether it was the looming of this ancient evil he was supposed to fight, or the threat posed by a resurrected Kiryu, or even something else...He couldn't say. So for now, he tried to quiet himself by looking across the sea to the Satellite. Seeing those acrid plumes of smoke from the factories still billowing, likely choking the air within the island itself.

How life would be so different if he hadn't taken Goodwin's offer. Was it wrong what he did? He knew it to be so, but at that time he felt no other recourse was possible. He was trapped, tired of just trying to survive. Even with the firm control Team Satisfaction had achieved...It felt hollow. Empty and devoid of purpose. When he became Duel King, he felt alive for the first time in a long time. People recognized him, his strength, his power.

All the same...He also couldn't help wonder how much of that was Rex's doing, aside from just giving him the resources to succeed. Bommer alone made him question the actions the man would take to see his own dreams realized...What else had he done?

Giving a frustrated sigh, he would change into his own set of full-body pajamas and climb into bed. Tomorrow, his title would be at stake...And despite everything that happened, he would fight like hell to defend it.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The next morning would prove uneventful at first; at the very least, even the losers would get to see their friends duke it out in the Finals. Or rather, the Semi-Finals then Finals...They supposed it made sense, given that it was only going to be three matches before the Title Match itself.

But before that? They were treating themselves to the continental 'King's Breakfast'. And for two particular individuals...They showed no remorse in devouring the helpless and plentiful offerings.

"Oi, Takeshi....You might want to save some room in case we have to ride today..." Yamichi said, his friend slamming down a stack of hotcakes like they were only crackers. "Ah, what are ya talkin' about, Yami? I'm freaking starving; besides, I need to get my energy up if I'm going against any of them!" Downing his glass of juice, Takeshi then let out a sigh, "Besides, I can argue you need to eat more! You're skinny as a rail, dude!" Takeshi then flexed his arm and patted his bicep, "You need some meat on your bones! So hey, get up there and eat some of King's Sausage! It's like sex in your mouth, dude!"

...Unfortunately, he happened to say that right as Ling would walk up and sit beside them. And if there was ever a look that conveyed the phrase "I hate you", Yamichi was giving it to him in spades. Takeshi's cheeks flushed deep, his voice caught in his throat as he tried to say "Uhm....Right, speaking of which...I'm still hungry...So Imma go grab some more!" And unlike the trope surrounding his deck, he was off like a lightning bolt.

Letting out a sigh, Yamichi would just say, "Morning, Ling...Sorry you had to hear that. Takeshi didn't mean anything offensive by it...But sometimes he talks faster than he thinks, you know?" Yusei just smiled, taking a sip of some green tea "I will give him this much; they do not short the customers on the meals. And the food is actually quite good." "Rather shocking, actually. So much is wasted here..."

"Oi, Yusei!"

The young man would then look behind him to see a familiar face...One he hadn't expected to see here at all. "Crow? When did you...." Yusei started to ask, but Crow just said, "Yesterday; didn't want to bother you though, because I figured you'd want a rest. Saw you fight down that behemoth...Craziest duel I've ever seen you in recently."

Yusei had so many questions for Crow...Mostly about the orphanage, but Crow's smirk made him realize that Martha probably had convinced him to go over and check on his friend. "Yusei? You know him?" Takeshi would ask, coming back with a plate full of food. Yusei would nod and say, "Yeah...A good friend of mine." Crow held out a hand to Takeshi, "Crow Hogan....You're Takeshi right? The Undead powerhouse?" Takeshi flushed a bit, "I suppose yeah...Is that a name people gave me or something?" Crow just grinned, "Nah, something I came up with! But you guys are all celebrities, you know? You should hear what people are saying about you...It's crazy!"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The next morning Jack also woke up early, showering and getting dressed in his usual outfit. One of the staff, a smarmy-looking gentleman would approach Atlas and ask, "Morning, sire...Shall I prepare the usual for breakfast?" Jack just nodded, adding "And Mister Evans...If you could be so kind as to ask Miss Milner what she would like when she comes down, have the cook prepare her meal as well. She'll be competing today against stiff competition."

The butler gave a polite bow, leaving the King to make his way downstairs and wait for Fayth to descend.

Was this too bold?

Fayth shook her head. Even if it was slightly, that wouldn't matter. Besides, choosing her clothes was strictly for herself. It wasn't meant to distract anyone - not intentionally, anyway. If that somehow succeeded?

Well, not her fault.

After slipping a tube top and jeans combination over her lingerie, the real question came into play. To bother with a jacket or no?

The main issue with her logic was it was warm. Summer, in fact. Overheating wouldn't be good. Simultaneously, neither would crashing and risking injuring herself.

"Then again," she reassured softly, "You may not hhave to wory about that to begin with."

Meaning this round wouldn't necessarily start off doing turbo duels. Even if they did, though, it'd depend on her opponent and how the cards played out.

Her hands rested upon her lap as she took a long, deep breath. It'd be risky ... but in the end, Fayth chose to not bother with a jacket. Nodding to herself, she stood up, slid her disk back on her arm, and began descending the stairs. About half-way down, she ceased, hearing a new pair of footfalls.

"Morning, Miss Milner. Mr. Atlas sent me to ask what you'd want for breakfast."

.... Butlers, huh?

It wasn't too amazing. Only slightly due to not hearing them last night. Then again, it had been late when they returned, so there was a good chance they had also been asleep. It didn't dawn on her how odd it was to have anyone helping her quite like this until the words repeatedly got caught in her throat. Even though this had been Jack's idea - her to reside in his home for a while - this felt .... wrong? Definitely odd.

Finally, however, Fayth managed a nod, able to give a reply to Mr. Evans.

"If it's not too much trouble, eggs and pancakes would be great."

"Not at all, Miss Milner. I can escort you to Mr. Atlas before starting breakfast if you want?"

Even though they'd had heir brief dinner, Fayth couldn't recall with certainty if they'd eaten in the dining room or elsewhere. And that was the main reason she nodded, taking the offer up. "Please. Thank you."

Shortly after giving her verdict, Jack would see Fayth arrive, helped into a seat nearby the King. The silence would only last until the butler left before finally, Fayth bowed her head politely. "Morning, Jack. I'm pretty sure that was some of the best sleep I've had in ... a long while."
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Before Ling could hear Yamichi greet her, she instead heard by far the most unorthodox sentence anyone could utter.

"It's like sex in your mouth, dude!"

Her mouth hung agape, face almost immediately burning a bright, red hue. She stared, unable to believe what she just heard before finally giggling. Despite the rather lewd choice of words, at least he'd meant it in a more humorous way.

"Umm ... wow. If I needed to wake up, that's one way to do so. Umm .... I'll get my plate and return."

Sure enough, Ling would only be gone a few minutes. Those would be enough, however, for her to see a new face.

"Crow, huh? Nice to meet you. O-Oh? We're ... really celebrities, huh?"

It made her think back to her date with Yamichi. Everyone - from the cab driver to their waiter - had said the exact same hing. Hearing that yet again made her feel just a bit weird. Honored ... but slightly out of place. Fame really wasn't why she'd tried so hard, but ... maybe it wouldn't be overly bad.

Oh shit!

And then her mind went to her parents. Had they seen yesterday's duel?!

Well ... at least they hadn't called. Not to her knowledge, anyway.

Ling would offer a quick bow of her head to Crow before working on eating her own plate of breakfast.

Jack would sit a little more upright, seeing Fayth come sit near him. Well...That was a new outfit for her. Even if her intent wasn't to draw attention, she could very well find herself the attention of some catcalls. Wanted or not.

"Well, I'm glad; I have no idea what type of bed you would be comfortable, but I figured a softer mattress would work." he would say; granted it was kind of odd, having someone else aside from himself at his own table. Perhaps one day he would invite others over...And not others who sought to extend their reputation by associating with him. His friends...Yeah, one day he would invite his friends here. Assuming, after all was said and done, that he was still anyone of import.

Even then...He would find a way to make a get-together happen.

Once their breakfast was served - Jack's own being a rather simple one of toast and fruit, with a mug of his favorite coffee brand on the side - Jack would then say, "I do hope this isn't too awkward, Fayth. With any luck, this will just be a temporary arrangement; I'm just sorry there's nothing more I can do to help you return home." It was here that another thought popped into his head though, "But...If I may ask? If Fuyu's from the same place you were...Why can't she take you back with her?"
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

"Celebrities, eh?" Yamichi would ask, also being reminded of the conversation between people at the restaurant. He wasn't really in this for fame or recognition; he just wanted to Duel. And besides...He had a private match with Ling for the near future all set and ready to go. That alone was enough for him now.

"But anyway....What're you doing out here, Crow? I thought you would be busy for awhile." Yusei would ask, Crow responding, "Well...I was, but then I caught a break. Besides...Wanted to see in person how my friend was going to fare in the Finals." It was here that Crow scratched at his arm; wearing longer sleeves, no one would see his Mark. But Yusei caught the signal well enough; figured he would be curious as well, and he'd been out of the loop for a while. This also confirmed that Crow had likely felt every time the Signs had went off.

"I see....Well, I'm definitely glad to see you. I take it you'll be sticking around then?" Yusei would ask, Crow nodding "You bet! Anyway...Sorry to interrupt, but just wanted to check in with ya. Be seeing you, Yusei!" And with that, Crow would take his leave.

"Kind of an odd guy...But must be alright if he's a friend of yours, Yusei." Takeshi would say, digging into his food once more with fervor. "He's...A lot like me in some ways. We're not exactly sociable people, at least not with strangers."

Yamichi then asked, "So...Who do you think is going to go first? Who against who and all that?"

Fayth quickly moved her head from side to side. "Oh no. That didn't just work. That mattress was a damn life saver for me. It performed freaking miracles or me. What we have at the studio isn't bad, nor the hotel. But it's not as soft, either."

She'd first take several bites of her own breakfast, starting with the eggs. Her head lowered slightly before she slowly nodded.

"Awkward? No, not quite. A bit ... frustrating. Not at you, though. With ... myself."

A wry grin spread over her face as another bite was taken. More words would follow to help elaborate after Fayth finished chewing.

"You, Yusei, Yuna, Fuyu, Reiji - you're all the only reasons I've been surviving decently, particularly here. And a few times, I've felt as if I have imposed on some of you; a few more so than others. I know it's no one's fault but Sora's, but .... "

Her head moved slowly from side to side.

"It doesn't make the feelings lingering in me any less frustrating."

That truly had been by far one of the worst parts about enduring Sora's torture; knowing he had taken away the only means to ever recover her sight. After removing her eyes, he left with them, thus denying her any chance to have a surgery and attempt to repair what nerves remained.

"But ummm, no. No, not awkward. I'd actually rather have made this arrangement over a more coerced one for me being conjured."

Obviously referring to Goodwin more than anyone else.

"I suppose my saving grace is I don't owe any of you with finances. Then I really would be in a lot more trouble. That would make this stay much more uncomfortable than I may already be making you feel. I'm probably one of the - if not the very first - woman who's been here, huh?"

Regardless of whether that got a reaction out of Jack or not, she'd go on to answer his last inquiry. "Simple. Our disks, unfortunately, are meant to only teleport one person - typically the user possessing said disk. Reiji has pondered if a dual teleportation is doable, but .... "

Fayth shook her head. "There's too many risks included with trying something that's supposed to be otherwise impossible. Either of us could get stuck in any other dimension. And in some cases? That'd be even worse than remaining here, so .... I'll keep waiting for someone to be sent over."
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Shy at worst, definitely. But compared to Bommer or Mukuro? Crow certainly seemed much more pure in his intentions. He truly did appear to be here so he could support Yusei. That worked for her. In fact, it was a damn good change of pace compared to how yesterday had played out. So while it was interesting - at least for Ling - to see a guy do almost no talking, for once, she didn't oppose.

"I'm not even gonna make those guesses. Not until we see who's going against who. And even then? I dunno if I'd be able to guess correctly. You're all crazy strong in your own ways. I don't really envision there being a 'most merciful' opponent because of that. It's gonna be tough no matter what."

Within twenty more minutes, Ling and the others would arrive.

What they may - or may not - expect to see, however, was they weren't the first. In fact, Fayth was already there.

... As was Jack, with them moving their Wheelers away.

"Celeste! Geez, there you are!"

Fayth quickly whipped her head around, barely fighting off the urge to flush as Ling's voice resounded in her ears. "Hey. Morning Ling .... guys. I was gonna inform you all I wouldn't be around ... but I realized I had no idea what the number to the hotel was. And then the one person I could have personally asked to inform you was asleep, so ... "

"It's okay. I'm just .... I was legit worried for a bit Mukuro found you or something."

At this, Fayth bit onto her lower lip, before nodding slightly. Handing her Wheeler over to one of the nearby guards - knowing Jack would be nearby and thus ensure no funny business was done with her ride - she walked alongside the others, lowering her voice in a whisper. "Well ... since you brought it up, that's largely why I ended up not returning. As a precaution. I ... am actually being sought after, and not in a good way."

"Seriously?! Son of a bitch! Is it him?!"

"Not only, but .... maybe. I haven't gotten confirmation regarding Mukuro, but me and Jack agreed it wasn't worth risking the chance. So .... I stayed over with him."

If anyone had been holding a pen - or anything, really - Fayth would have easily heard it drop, possibly shatter depending on the item in question.

"Really? He ... actually let you stay? Like ... in his manor?"

"Yeah."

Ling whistled. "Damn, girl. That's kinda impressive, actually. I don't see him as a person who does that for just anyone."

"He doesn't. He already admitted that to me. And actually ... the better wording is until things calm down, that's where I'm gonna be. I know today's the last day of the tournament and all, but still. Mind relaying that to Yuna if you can, Yusei?"

And there it was; confirmation Yamichi had been wondering about. This was indeed the same girl his co-boss - a least as far as he knew - was worried about and had worked damn hard to help out.

Jack understood where she was coming from, even if he didn't fully understand everything she was saying; he had no idea there was even such a thing as an alternate dimension. But...Given everything he'd witnessed as of late, was there such a thing as impossible anymore? Not very likely.

They would finish their meals in short order, the staff coming to clear away the dishes for the two of them. "Well...It's about time for the final stage for the tournament to begin. Even if it goes without saying...I wish you the best of luck. Each person you're going to face is there because of skill and determination, yourself obviously included. Just be sure to bring your best, because that it is what it will require if you emerge victorious"

Of course, while she wouldn't be able to see the confident smirk on his face...She would feel a hint of wanting her to come through the winner. Maybe it was because he was a societal underdog...Or maybe it was because she had shown her own determination throughout this tournament, as well as from her incarceration in the Facility.

"I do have to go see Goodwin though; he'll want to talk to me, I'm sure. Don't worry though; what was discussed will stay between us, as promised."

The troupe at the hotel, meanwhile, was also just finishing up. Of course, this time they were surrounded by throngs of onlookers, most pushing and trying to get autographs of the Final Four. But some even held signs for those that had lost, if only because they had played so well. Signs with names like "Go Dragon Empress!", "Shine on, Starlord!", "Keep it up, Scrap Dealer!", and even " were held up as Sector officers kept the hungry crowds at bay. Both Takeshi and Yamichi felt pretty weird...Having Sector actually defend them was new, very new. Granted it was only because they likely still had no idea who they were.

A blessing from their boss; he had every chance to sell them out, but did his best to keep their identities hidden. Making his name the only one known, a giant target of Sector's aggression and brutality.

And once they were there, they were bombarded by loud cheers. Soon joined by their final member, Fayth herself, the group finally assembled as they would make their way onto the field. Her story, however, was more than interesting. "So...All that negative stuff they say about him, is starting to sound less and less true." Takeshi murmured, Yamichi nodding "That's actually really nice of him. Especially after yesterday...Just hope Sector keeps that guy locked in a cage for a while."

When Yusei heard Fayth's question, he would nod and reply, "I'll try and reach out to her." Takeshi nudged the tech "Oi...Isn't that...." but the young man just saying "Yeah...That must be who she was referring to. We'll let Yuna know in case Yusei can't get to her." Of course, no one else would hear them...As the MC would then come on over the loudspeaker.

"AND WE ARE BACK, TOPS! I WELCOME YOU AS THE MC TO THE FINAL DAY OF THE FORTUNE CUP! FOR ALL OF YOU WHO MIGHT JUST BE TUNING IN, WE'VE SEEN AN ACTION-PACKED LAST TWO DAYS OF DUELS! AND DESPITE ALL THE SURPRISES, WE'VE GOT AN A-LEAGUE ROSTER HERE!"

It was here that the artificial lights caused a blanket of relative darkness to envelop the field, before long a beam of intense light would shine right down on Fayth first and foremost. "WE'VE GOT THE FALLEN ANGEL CELESTE BELROSE, WHO SOARED THROUGH TWO MATCHES AGAINST HER DARK COUNTERPARTS TO STAND HERE TODAY! WILL THE HEAVENS SHINE LIGHT UPON HER AGAIN IN VICTORY TODAY!?"

A dramatic pause would then ensue, another light then shining down on Yusei. The young man shielding his eyes as MC's voice would continue, "I DON'T KNOW! BECAUSE SHE'LL HAVE TO GET THROUGH THE YOUNG MAN HERE WHO MANAGED TO TAKE DOWN A NEAR-INDESTRUCTIBLE BEAST NOT JUST ONCE, BUT TWICE TO EMERGE TRIUMPHANT! GIVE IT UP FOR THE STAR LORD, YUSEI FUDO!"

"Wait...Don't they usually..." Takeshi started to ask, cut off as a light would then shine down on Ling, "AND AFTER THAT, WE HAVE ANOTHER SHOWDOWN! THIS YOUNG WOMAN'S DRAGONS HAVE SHOWN NO MERCY AGAINST BOTH ARCANE DIVINERS AND DEVASTATING MACHINES! YOU KNOW HER, YOU LOVE HER! LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE DRAGON EMPRESS, LING!"

And last of all, Takeshi would have the blinding illumination encase him, "BUT SHE'LL HAVE TO TEST HER METTLE AGAINST THE UNDEAD LEGIONS THAT STAND BEFORE HER! CAN HER FLAMES BURN A PATH TO VICTORY THROUGH THE UNDERWORLD LORD'S RELENTLESS ATTACKS?! ONE LAST TIME, FOLKS! OUR FOURTH FINALS CONTESTANT! TAKESHI YAMAGUCHI!"

"Well....That's a hell of a way to announce the final brackets...." Shimoda said, Yamichi nodding "Guess it's easier this way; there's only four after all. Plus..." The tech paused to grin, "You can tell he loves his job. He probably thought up this whole scheme just to liven up the tournament." Takeshi's fist clenched, pumping it skyward, "Well it's working, because man I feel more hyped than ever!" His gaze then turned to face Ling, an arm coming to pull Yamichi close and poke his cheek, "Oi, Ling! You might be my man's squeeze here, but don't expect me to go easy on ya! And don't let the fact that we're good friends deter you from going all out on me either! I've seen what you can do, so when our turn comes, you best bring it all!"

"Oi, Takeshi...Calm down, Yusei and Fayth have to go first...Save your energy for the duel...." Yamichi muttered, his face partially squished against his friend's side. Shimoda just laughed, "Well...Guess we better go ringside eh?"

"Sonny! Young lady!"

Yusei would turn to hear a familiar voice; it was here his eyes would widen as he caught sight of a very familiar face...Or faces, rather. "Yanagi-san?" Yusei would utter lowly, seeing he wasn't alone. Kohaku, Jin and a few others who had helped him rescue Yuna and get them out of the Facility were in the stands. "Yusei! Glad to see you in one piece!" Jin would shout, the muscular male shouting in addition "Go on, get up there! You've got a Duel to win!" Yanagi then shouted, "You too, missy! Get up there and show him what for!"

Yusei smiled a little; well, this was a very unexpected surprise...And even seeing Crow among them? Well...Guess the gang was out in force today. "Well, that's our cue, Fayth...Shall we?" Yusei would say, holding out a hand to escort her to the stage.

"So...You guys know Yusei?" Takeshi would ask as they would go to sit next to the small crowd that had gathered for him. "Fayth too...Let's just say we have history and leave it at that, yeah? Jin Homura, former Pro Duelist." the massive male said, the elder male saying "Yanagi Tenzen....Pleasure."

"Hey, I'm Lua! Watch, Yusei's going to totally kick her butt!" an energetic voice popped in, heads turning to see a young man with green hair in a ponytail smiling at them. Seeing the girl in the twintails, Shimoda then said, "Ah...Luca, right? This must be your brother, I take it?" Lua just smiled and nodded excitedly, "Yeah, yeah! That's me! Lua's the name!"

And as they were talking MC would announce after Yusei and Fayth activated their Duel Disks and had their meters at 8000, standing before each other "ALRIGHT FOLKS! HERE WE GO! COIN....TOSS!" And when the result came up in Yusei's favor, having called tails, MC would then say, "AND YUSEI HAS THE FIRST MOVE!"

"Alright, Celeste...Here we go! My turn! Draw!" Yusei declared; his opening hand wasn't the best, but he'd had worse. He could make this work, just needed a few more cards. "I'll set a monster face-down, and two cards face-down as well! Turn end!"

Jack, meanwhile, had traveled up to the Director's office to watch the Duels play out from (arguably) the best seat in the house. However, as soon as he stepped inside, he found the Director looking rather...Distraught.

"Goodwin...You seem...upset." Jack started off slow, Rex then holding up a copy of the Daily Duel. And plastered on the headlines was "DUEL KING TRADING FAVORS FOR GLORY?!" with the caption reading "Mystery surrounding current Duel King Jack Atlas and Celeste Belrose: Romance or backdoor dealings?"

"When I said keep an eye on her, I didn't mean invite her to stay with you...Can I ask what exactly you were thinking?" Goodwin said, Jack replying "Given everything that happened to her, yesterday and before, I felt it my responsibility to make sure she was safe for the night. I don't apologize for what I had to do." Goodwin stared at his prodigy for a few seconds, before letting out a sigh, "Thankfully, I'm good friends with the Chief there, and had this article pulled." Jack then took the newspaper and saw the angle of the shot; how the hell did they know to post up there?

"And thankfully, Miss Raines is far too eager to post a story that she's blatant about signing her own name. Her boss has put her on notice...But keep an eye out for her. Just...Give me a warning if you're going to do something like this in the future, alright? There's a lot of work done to elevate you to this position, and I'll not stand for some gossip-hungry tart trying to tarnish it." Jack just nodded, "Of course, Director."

At this Goodwin smiled, "Good! Now then...Let's see how your friend fares against our newest addition to the Signers. Hopefully she wasn't too much trouble to house?" Jack shook his head, "No...We hardly interacted. Just the normal pleasantries and the exchange of gratitude. Won't lie though...Was kind of nice having someone else there who didn't only see me for my fame."

So they know of Yuna also? Fayth mused, mentally noting both Yamichi and Takeshi's reply. Hushed ... but not enough to keep her from hearing. This was one of those times ignorance was probably supposed to be bliss so, for now, she at least didn't react as if she heard them. Besides, she was looking more forward to the tournament. Not only from Jack's earlier encouragement ... though that was certainly part of the equation too.

She and Ling would both sit alongside the other guys, waiting patiently - eagerly - to hear whom would go against whom.

Meanwhile, back in the newly controlled Facility, Hajime had hurried into Yuna's room. An eyebrow rose.

... Really?

If this were any other day, he'd understand her being asleep.

... Surely she hadn't forgotten. No. Not likely. Yuna was smarter than that.

Oi, Yuna! Wake up! Last day of the Fortune Cup's about to start!

Is he already there? he'd hear back.

... If you mean Hotsuma, yes.

Are you seriously still miffed about that?

Actually, yeah. I am.

Hajime sighed. So it was gonna be one of these days. Lovely. His eyes rolled at the thought, taking advantage of Yuna's own remaining shut for now.

Don't make me carry you out there. Seriously, this is unbefitting of a co-leader.

That made Yuna open her eyes. They temporarily narrowed ... only to soften. Her hands raised beside her head before she sighed once again.

Fine. Okay, you win. I do have a few other things that need to be discussed with him anyway.

Planning a day when she could cut the secrecy and tell everyone Hotsuma wasn't even a leader anymore was one of the primary things on her to-talk-about list.

Go on and ahead. I need to get into a new outfit.

Finally hearing a fair excuse to leave, Hajime nodded, though not before flashing his leader a grin. Within the span of two minutes after her lieutenant leaving, she'd rejoin him in the living room. He hadn't been kidding, it seemed - because she walked inside on time to hear the pair-ups for the Final 4; Yusei vs. Fayth and Takeshi vs. Ling.

No offense to Yusei, but I don't see this working out for him. Let's see how my girl does.

.... Your girl? Hajime curiously inquired.

Well, yeah. I meant it. Seeing her the very first time on the screen - and even in the Facility - that sense of a kindred spirit within her has gotten only stronger. And if she ever wanted to join here? Done. No hesitation. She has as much hate for Sector as we all do - maybe a bit more. Besides, I need someone to cheer for. Takeshi is Hotsuma's man, so that feels a bit like a bit of a cop-out. Someone's gotta root for the underdog. So I'll take that risk and role up.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

As the first set of match-ups were announced, Fayth felt her heart begin to pound. Slowly, she turned, knowing her opponent was literally right beside her.

Power-wise, she easily beat Yusei.

But then, he'd proven he could overcome insane odds, evidenced by killing Despair God twice yesterday.

"We-We're really ... ??"

"Wait!" Ling intervened, "Then ... does that mean?"

Her head shook as she chuckled anxiously. "I'm pinning this on you somehow, Takeshi. Your luck's rubbing off on all of us. Definitely me for sure. Well, damn. I'm gonna be in for quite the fight, I suppose."

And apparently, the surprises didn't end there. Several very familiar voices registered to Fayth, making her grin as she stood up and took Yusei's hand. "Tenzen-san! Jin! Glad you could make it!"

She'd give the group a wave, eventually standing in place across from Yusei. "Heads!" Fayth would attempt to predict ... only for the coin toss to come out less than favorable. Meh. Would have been preferred, but this could still work out.

Hmmm ... not gonna be as quick as usual, she mused, going through her hand while Yusei took his turn.

"Don't be so sure, Lua! Angels are pretty strong! Yusei might be good, but don't underestimate Celeste! She did get this far, after all, for a very good reason."

"Alright ... here I come! Draw!"

Well, damn. This had worked out rather decently.

"I activate Sanctuary in the Sky! I'll then set two cards and summon Dunames Dark Witch! Dunames will go after your set!"

As the fairy conjured a ball of light and shot it at the face-down card, a sound akin to something clanging loudly against metal would be heard. Fayth's head tilted as she heard Yusei explain what had occurred with two words. "Shield Wing."

A small smirk crossed Fayth's lips as she nodded. "Gotcha. I'm gonna need more reinforcements. Fair. Well then .... your turn, Yusei."

"Ah, I know I know! But just saying, Yusei's no slouch! And if he gets Stardust out, Celeste's going to have a rough time!" Lua said excitedly, Jin laughing "You have quite the spirit don'tcha, boy? Yusei ain't no slouch sure...But this Celeste woman, she's got spunk of her own. I think this is going to be a tough match for both of them."

Yanagi of course, "And with the two of them being who they are, I'm sure they'll do nothing but bring out the best in each other!"

Yusei watched as she attacked his Shield Wing, the monster deflecting Dunames' strike easily. Thank goodness he was able to draw such a monster; else he would be in trouble right now.

"I draw!" Yusei would declare, taking another look at his hand. Still nothing he could do to mount an offensive, at least not yet. But that was alright; Shield Wing would buy him some time to get a field set up. "I'll set another monster face-down and end my turn!" he would then say.

"Hmm...Guess Yusei's having some dead-draws. Or maybe just not the right card he needs yet?" Takeshi muttered, Yamichi stating "Likely; but it's still early in the duel. I expect he's got an idea in mind, but just needs one or two good draws."

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

With all the hub-bub about the Fortune Cup, Hotsuma had indeed been watching. His form - which seemed to be a little beefier than before, and having a more distinctive musculature about it - sat comfortably on a couch in the main room. The entire space having been reworking into a giant entertainment center, the screen modified to broadcast any Tops stations in the best quality image available. His eyes, the irises now a permanent blood-red color but almost fully hidden behind his signature dark sunglasses, stared at the screen; watching his two guys advance had been supremely satisfying.

Whether they knew it or not, the Satellite was making their 'best' look like utter newbies. And that idiot Mukuro had his karma coming for acting like such a maniac; same went for the guy named Bommer. A strong Duelist clearly...But talk about fucked in the head, using spikes on his Runner like that.

But then again...Who was he to talk? A thought that made him chuckle.

"Well good morning sleepyheads! And here I thought you two would miss out on all the fun!" Hotsuma said upon feeling both Hajime and Yuna's presence. He knew it was no secret she was pissed at him; he'd been gone for a while last night, and when she tried to demand where he'd been he dismissed her and went to bed. Granted, he had a good idea that she was probably going to try and nag him again, but...If it came to it, it came to it.

Hearing Yuna's thoughts broadcasted through Hajime, Hotsuma just laughed, "You know, I'm actually inclined to agree, on both counts. I want to see her win...And frankly? I think Fayth's going to steamroll the guy...Won't that be a sight. Getting his ass kicked by a blind girl, that's going to sting, no matter how level-headed he comes across." Evidenced as such when all he could do was put another card face-down. "Better hope that Shield Wing doesn't go anywhere Yusei...It's going to be all bad news if that happens." Hotsuma muttered, laughing under his breath.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"So Jack...Tell me something at least. This little arrangement you made with Miss Milner. You plan on having it be more permanent, or just until the end of this tournament?" Goodwin would then ask out of the blue, the blonde-haired male looking him sternly.

"Honestly? If she feels safe with me, I'll let her stay as long as she wishes. She can come and go as she chooses; I only offered her protection because I was partly responsible for the circumstances of her being targeted." Jack would reply, Goodwin saying "Well...While I suppose I can advise you on twenty different that would be detrimental to your career, I'm guessing you wouldn't listen, would you?"

Another hardened glare from Jack was all the answer Rex needed, the man letting out a sigh, "Well...Suppose I can't blame you. Besides, my team can handle any negative press that might come out. I at least thank you for being honest with me...But if there was something I should know, you would tell me...Yes?"

That look from the Director, that knowing gaze, made Jack a little nervous and falter for a second; what did this man know exactly? "Of course...So long as you extend me the same courtesy." Jack would reply, the Director nodding "Of course, Jack...Anything."

Still on the defensive, huh?

To be fair, everyone had been dueling for three days straight now. And even her own hand hinted it was getting as exhausted as the remaining duelists still in the tournament. Her head nodded; yeah. Seemed right.

All she knew was typically she had one Valhalla and Sanctuary - or cards that could help her get them. Hecatrice and Zeradias, namely.

The fact she started with only one was a cue.

But then ... maybe she was over-thinking. She was so close to having a chance to fight Jack, and even against Yusei, she really wanted to win. Of course, that meant there was a fair chance of facing either Undead or Dragons next.

Stop a second! Breathe! One worry at a time!

A soft breath would pass her lips before Fayth's fingers deftly pulled the top card off her deck. "I'll summon Counselor Lily. And since, for now, that isn't enough to deal with Shield Wing, I'll end."
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
It wouldn't be me intentionally missing out but ... yeah. Not gonna lie; being able o sleep in some days feels kinda nice. But yeah ... no. Not today.

Since Hotsuma was playing the civil card, she'd at least return that gesture. Irked as she was at him, it was only fair enough. Yuna tilted her head to the side as a new thought came to her.

If Mukuro really was the champ before Jack, hen you'd think there were previous Fortune Cups. But I don't recall any being televised heavily ... ??

Then again, she hadn't paid attention before now to any of the tournaments, so ... that was always an option. When Hotsuma actually agreed on siding with Fayth, she turned to look a her partner. And that was when she noticed tthe new muscles.

.... You being subtly possessed or something? I mean, I know you never hated her in the first place or anything, but ... still. I honestly didn't expect you to concur with me on that. At this rate, I don't think it'll be losing to Fayth that'll sting Yusei the worst. It's gonna be if he forces himself to stay in the defensive and not give her a decent challenge.

That was how he came off as, anyway. Regardless, 'sore loser' wasn't really a term that seemed to apply to Yusei.

Yusei watched as Celeste would take her turn; seemed she didn't have much to counter his use of Shield Wing right now. Which was fine by him. He was just hoping he could draw something to help him out.

"My turn! Draw!"

And when he saw what he drew...He couldn't help smiling. Perfect!

"I send Drill Synchron to the Graveyard to Special Summon Quickdraw from my hand! Then I Normal Summon Synchron Explorer from my hand! I use its effect to Special Summon Drill Synchron from the Graveyard! Harmony Rebirth!" And just like that Yusei would have

"And thanks to Quickdraw's effect, whenever I use it to Synchro Summon, I can treat its name as any 'Synchron' Tuner!" At this, a rapidly rotating display would appear before the small gunslinger, itself rapidly drawing its revolver and nailing a pictograph of Junk Synchron. "I'm tuning Quickdraw and Synchron Explorer! Gathering roars turn into an echoing arrow which tears through the sky! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Show yourself, Junk Archer!"

"AND THERE IT IS! YUSEI MAKES THE FIRST MOVE OF THE FINALS WITH A SYNCHRO SUMMON!" MC announced, the young man going into his turn, "I activate Junk Archer's effect! Once per turn, I can banish one face-up monster you control until the end of this turn! I target Dunames! Dimension Shoot!" At this, Archer knocked an arrow and nailed the angel, her form warping before vanishing. "I now attack Counselor Lily with Junk Archer! Scrap Arrow!"

"Trap Card, Open! Magic Cylinder!"

A staple Trap, the twin cylinders would catch the incoming arrow in one and spit it right back at him through the other...Knocking his Life to 5700 in one strike. Well...Suppose he should have expected that. "Turn end! And by Archer's effect, Dunames returns to the field!" he would then declare, her monster reappearing before her.

"Even if it wasn't the 'Fortune Cup', could have been another tournament that was the same scale." Hotsuma said; it was true, he knew only of Mukuro as another 'Satellite thug'. Granted, his little stunt was a bitch move against Fayth, but...Eh, she handled it and kicked his ass to the curb. He was satisfied with that much.

"Besides, doesn't matter that much; Fayth's about to do to Yusei what she did to Mukuro. Little shithead deserved that asswhooping." Hotsuma said, thinking silently that Yusei also deserved it. Yuna might not know it, but he was still sore about him not being able to help her in the Facility. No...Yusei had to come along and make him seem like a moron. But...Since he couldn't put his own foot up that guy's ass, he would settle for Fayth doing it for him.

"Nah...I don't hate her. Granted, I ain't as fond of her as you are, but I can still root for someone to win, can't I? Or is rooting for the same person also something I'm not allowed to do? Besides, I got to destroy her in the Facility, so as far as I'm concerned...We're golden, she and I." Hotsuma would jest, seeming completely at ease despite the potential for provocation his words had.

As Yusei began performing his turn, he would see Fayth reveal her own smirk. Yet nohing would be said ... not before Yusei tried to attack her Counselor Lily.

"Gomen, Yusei, but I figured you'd beat me in which of us would Synchro first. So .... Trap Card, Open! Magic Cylinder!"

A staple, yes. Bu as far as Fayth was concerned, it was all but essential. And hell, it wasn't like her deck only had numerous staples. She had her share of unique cards that few people would use, particularly for a deck like hers. So no, she had no shame in playing what some may deem to be a 'cheap' card.

"My turn! Draw!"

Hmmm. The lack of drawing monsters was a bit annoying. But ... there was something she had saved. Good thing, too - because what better time to use this card than now?

"I activate Raigeki!"

And faster than anyone could snap their fingers, Yusei's field would be wiped clean, leaving Fayth with a clear shot at his life points. "But I'm not yet done! First, I'll set a card. I'll then equip Dunames Dark Witch with Cestus of Dalga, boosting her to 2300."

While not the most intimidating she had ever made a fairy, it was impressive in its own rights. Mainly because Fayth knew from observing and recalling all the duels thus far that Yusei didn't have anything immediately summonable with that much attack.

"Dunames will attack you direcly!"

"Trap Card, Open! Guard Block!"

"Turn end for now!"

..... OF course, it only dawned milliseconds after Fayth made her declaration she'd been too hasty.

Shit! Still could have used Counselor Lily!

If it wasn't obvious the poor girl was nervous yet, it was practically stamped on her forehead. Her head shook as she took another slight breath. Panicking wouldn't do her any good.

"Next turn, I will definitely not be so careless. I'll definitely make up for that recklessness by making everything I do count; I promise."
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yuna couldn't help but face palm as Fayth seemed to let her anxiety get the best of her.

Well .... she's not completely wrong. A lot of cards that make the damage 0 also tend to end the battle phase. Still ... careful, Fayth.

What bullshit. If it weren't for Goodwin, she - and likely Hotsuma - would be in the Tops. Yuna was starting to see that some extra support wouldn't necessarily be a horrible thing for Fayth.

... I'm gonna ignore that last line. That does not make you two golden. Only when she takes her turn to beat you will that beat the case.

And with the hint Yusei had dropped to her about Fayth not being from this dimension? Yuna didn't really have any doubts. If anything, she was certain Fayth had another deck. One that wasn't being used much, if at all.

.... She needed to arrange a day to ask Fayth about that. Yusei had only implied the most bare minimum of what he meant by 'returning her to her dimension'. But if it was anything along the lines of what Yuna was assuming?

That would be legit cool to hear-slash-learn about.

"OUCH! WHAT A RETURN VOLLEY! CELESTE'S CLEVER PLOY KNOCKS DOWN YUSEI TO NEAR HALF HIS LIFE!" MC would announce, the crowd cheering Fayth on as she took an early and significant lead. It was clear that this was going to be a rough match for Yusei; but much like yesterday, he'd shown himself to be tenacious. Even when faced against overwhelming odds.

"Eh?! Yusei, get it together! You got this!" Lua shouted, Takeshi smirking "Relax, man; it's still early. It's...what, turn 2? 3? He's got plenty of Life left to turn this around." Yamichi said, "True, but her clearing his field like that won't make a turnaround easy. The fact that she drew Thunder Bolt so quickly...It would seem fortune smiles upon her."

But when Yusei activated Guard Block on her turn to reduce damage to zero, Takeshi would just say, "See? The guy knows what's up; he's giving it everything he's got. Even if she wins, this will be a Duel they can both be proud of."

Yusei just smiled as Fayth promised to not be so careless. "Hey, it happens, Fayth. Don't worry about it; you're doing more than fine. But now it's my turn! I draw!" He still had a strong hand...And he would need to go on the offensive; playing too carefully would lead to a quicker defeat.

"I summon Junk Synchron, and use its effect to Special Summon Synchron Explorer from my Graveyard with its effect negated!" Yusei would say, Junk Synchron thrusting an arm forward and having the spherical bot reappear. "I'll then tune Junk Synchron to Synchron Explorer! "Gathering stars will call upon a new force! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Show yourself, Junk Warrior!"

Of course, his effect wouldn't be much use, given that he had no other monsters. But at least even with Dunames at 2300, he had a feeling she wouldn't risk a simultaneous kill without good reason. "Battle! Junk Warrior attacks Counselor Lily! Scrap Fist!"

Even if he couldn't damage her because her Field Spell, he at least took one monster off her field. "Turn end!" he would then declare.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hotsuma just laughed as she rebutted his argument; while she wasn't wrong, he couldn't help but chuckle. Did she forget that because of her plays, she practically handed him a field full of beaters? Only because he was trying to show leniency did he willingly remove some of his more powerful monsters.

Well that and wanting to duel her as himself...Not likely he'd make that mistake again. It was like the Emperor said: Embrace the power. Take it and use it as his own.

"She's free to try anytime she likes. She's given me one of the better challenges, more so than the rest of these Sector fucks have. Beelze could always use a nice little playdate, and I'm sure she'd love to get reacquainted. Not to mention some of the other Synchros I've got tucked away." he would sneer; true, there were quite a few monsters in his extra deck he'd not gotten to use. Some of which could, in theory, be even nastier than Beelze itself.

"But anyway...This tournament's been a blast. Wish I could have tried to enter...Would have had a lot more fun than last night, that's for sure."

"Besides, what would be wrong with Celeste winning?" Luca chimed in, staring at her brother. Practically daring him to come up with a response that wouldn't make her question his stance on female duelists. "They both got here, so they both deserve a chance to win."

Although tournaments were meant for finding winners ... Luca just didn't like picking sides. Not unless it was absolutely necessary. Like when Fayth had dueled Mukuro; that was a given. A time she could understand anyone with common sense siding with her. But now? It felt just a bit unnecessary; though that was like her own point of view.

Ling turned to look at Lua, flashing him a sly smirk. "I think she's gotcha there. Here's a free lesson about women .... well, females in general - if it sounds like they're about to win a debate, best to just let them."

As Fayth drew, she thought long and hard. Yusei was right; under normal circumstances, she'd never risk something as suicidal as having one of her monsters attack another. Granted, neither of them would lose life. However, considering what she drew - or didn't, depending on one's point of view - it made her next move all the more risky. Would this even be worth it?

Using one of her set Lumenize cards would easily have been Fayth's preferred moves to make. Unfortunately, Counselor Lily wasn't LIGHT, hence why she didn't use it.

"Well, Yusei," she finally said after a slight pause, "I did promise to make this count so, no matter how foolish it's gonna seem, here goes. First, I'll summon Zeradias. Now ... Dunames Dark Witch! Fly forth! Attack Junk Warrior!"

"Trap Card, Open! Angel Lift!"

.... Now that was odd. Why now? Did he not realize what he'd just done?

"Target shift! Attack Shield Wing!"

Even if it wouldn't die, the trap Yusei had used forced it to return in attack mode. And with now having two monsters versus a 0 attack point one .... Yusei would be in for a world of hurt.

As would everyone else ... something that didn't register to Fayth's mind until her shoulder stung. Burned, even. Her eyebrows widened as she clamped a hand tightly over her shoulder, biting hard on her lower lip to stifle a whimper. The sensations were so strong that Fayth hardly noticed her life jumping past ten thousand due to Cestus of Dalga's effect.

"S-Shit. Sorry .... ahhhh!"

Idiot! You knew Rex had an ulterior motive! Don't tempt fate! But more importantly, you - Yusei - know what Goodwin wants also. I really am sorry. Please calm down, Yusei!

Quickly after Fayth reacted to the pain, Luca, and even a hidden Aki would also elicit pained cries. The latter, however, was hidden, watching from a distance. Despite Divine having supposedly spoken to Goodwin ... it was hard to trust the man. There had been very specific reasons even Divine didn't trust him. So why should she?

"Son of a bitch!" Aki muttered, wincing as the agony surged through her flesh.

Luca, however, was less htan quiet. In fact, she jumped whilst sitting in her seat, also holding onto her arm tightly. "A-Again!"

.... Again? Ling questioned, looking horrified and confused. And yet ... this did confirm one thing she had been wondering. This chronic pain wasn't a mere coincidence. Not anymore ... it couldn't be. Now more than one person was reacting ... and all in the same areas of the body? Something was going on.

"You okay?" Ling asked, looking in concern between Yusei, Fayth, and Luca - not realizing there were many others also in the exact same pain.

Poor Fayth was using all of her strength to stay standing. Her head began to throb in addition to her shoulder. For a few seconds, she almost swore she blacked out just from the anguish. Her head lifted as she continued breathing rapidly, realizing she hadn't done one last thing yet. "T-Turn ... turn end. S-Sorry .... "

Yuna quickly pushed Hajime's hand off to break the shared connection.

Motherfucker, talk about hurting her like that again and I swear .....

Out loud, however, she simply sighed, shaking her head with a disgusted and disappointed look in her eyes. But at least she wasn't putting herself a risk for getting in a pointless argument. Maybe not pointless ... but impossible to win, especially if it did turn physical.

Her head tilted as she watched Fayth take her turn.

Girl, the fuck are you doing?!

But it would be when Yusei activated his trap that - despite respecting and being grateful for the man - Yuna couldn't help herself. She snickered. While still chortling, she re-placed Hajime's hand on her shoulder, shaking her head in disbelief.

Okay. O-fucking-kay. I know Fayth skipping a second attack was dumb but .... goddamn! That was even stupider! Well ... unless he can turn this around, seems she will indeed win this.

When Fayth clutched at her shoulder, however, Yuna's eyes narrowed.

... Just like back then. Was this the Signer stuff Kiryu kept going on and on about?

She may not have fully understood the topic, but Yuna had certainly never forgotten about it either. Now that she was seeing .... something happen with her own eyes, Yuna's mind - somewhat begrudgingly - went back to the interrogation sessions, trying to recall if Kiryu had hinted why he so badly needed to find all of the Signers.

Yusei knew what his next plan was going to be: Suicidal. But he needed to make it work. He'd set it up to where he would unfortunately lose a lot of life, no thanks in part to his draws and his opponent's use of Trap Cards.

However, when her consecutive attacks would drop his Life to nearly 1000, a pained yelp left him as his skin seared on his arm, the brand burning brightly on his arm even as he would try to cover it up.

"Oi, Luca?! You alright!?" Lua shouted, Yanagi saying "So young...Unbelievable." The young man then turned to the elderly male, saying loudly, "What's unbelievable?! What the hell's going on with my sister!?" Yanagi would just smile and say, "You can see her, can't you young one? In your dreams...The dragon that protects the Forest." Lua, and even Takeshi and Yamichi, were utterly mystified by the man. "Uhm....Tenzen, right? You sure you're feeling well?" Takeshi would ask, earning a punch in the arm from Yamichi, "Dude, that's not something you say to an elder!" The brunette rubbed his arm, muttering "He's the one talking about forests and dragons....".

"FOLKS, I'M NOT QUITE SURE WHAT'S GOING BUT OUR DUELISTS SEEM TO BOTH BE IN TERRIBLE PAIN! MEDICS, I ASK THAT YOU PLEASE STANDBY!" MC announced, Yusei waving it off, "No...We're fine, right Celeste?" It would be that statement which would tell her Yusei was fine with how things were going; if anything, making it to the Final Four was a step in and of itself. And this whole tournament, despite whatever Goodwin might have been trying to use it for...Reminded him of the time in Satellite when people could Duel freely and for laughs.

"I draw! I summon another Synchron Explorer and Special Summon Drill Synchron from the Graveyard. I'll then tune it with my Level Five Junk Warrior! "Clustering wishes will become a new shining star! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! Take flight, Stardust Dragon!"

Of course, his plan left an obvious oversight; the Explorer on his field was the weakest...And would allow her direct access to his Life. But he was hoping that the presence of one last backrow and his monster which overpowered her would prevent an attack. As could be the same said for her backrow; he imagined one of them was likely a Lumenize or something to bolster her monster's ATK. "Turn end!"

Hotsuma figured she wasn't too pleased with the implication of him having his own version of fun with the woman. It wasn't like he was going to force himself on her, unlike how those Sector assholes did to Yuna. And she probably forgot that he tried to go for her during his Duel, nearly knocking himself out from the constant voltage that fatass Armstrong ran through him.

All she did was wave when he tried to get her out after she was stuck dueling Kiryu, and his head was almost split open from their billyclubs. Oh yeah, he hadn't forgotten.

But he let it slide...For now; he still had it in his back pocket, and the scars on the back of his head to prove it. "Eh? Signer business? The hell are you going on about now?" Hotsuma asked, the Emperor reminding him "She's referring to them being marked as that ancient power's vassals. Remember that surge we felt in the Facility. The one with that power I said I recognized but couldn't place?"

Hotsuma's own mind went back to their talks in the Facility; come to think it, there was something weird going on with Fayth during their Duel. Part of him just thought she was trying to fake an injury to get him to back off. "I see...Well regardless, Yusei just fucked up. Game...Set...Match. Winner, Angel Girl." Hotsuma joked, seeing that Yusei just played his last trump card but still left an avenue of attack open.

Jack watched as Yusei would lose a massive chunk of life. "Oi...Director. There's something I've been meaning to ask you. How exactly did you convince Yusei to join the tournament?" Goodwin raised a brow, replying "We came to an...understanding. Simple as that." Jack's eyes narrowed and his fists clenched, "You call taking hostages an understanding?!"

Goodwin paused, eyes still fixed on the action below as he would think about how Jack found this out; Yusei must have told him about Yeager's scheme. "I'll admit...I had no intention of harming them. But it's as you implied; Yusei was unlikely to have come along without serious incentive. So in truth, Atlas...I took a leaf out of your book. Remember?" The blonde grit his teeth, growling "You better let them go, regardless of the outcome."

Goodwin just grinned, "Of course; even if he loses, another Signer is moving forward. One that can hold her own quite well. So long as that happens, we're in business." Jack then crossed his arms, "And if there's I don't face another Signer in the Title Match?" Goodwin just sighed, "Well, here's hoping it doesn't come to that." Jack scowled, "Just promise me; by the end of this tournament, you'll let his friends go."

Goodwin stared long and hard at the boy; seemed he was truly changing...But for better or worse, he couldn't say. He was getting closer to the other Signers, which was a very good thing; they needed to be on a united front for when the storms came. "I promise Jack; I just needed Yusei here to increase the odds of being able to call out the Dragon. Once this is over, they will have their freedom."

"H-Huh?"

Tenzen's words definitely grabbed Luca's attention, who quickly lifted her head. While still eliciting labored breaths, she managed to ask, "Why ... do you know .... about that, sir?"

Okay. If Ling had only thought something was off, now she knew it. Confusion mingled in with her worry as she, too, glanced up at the elderly figure. "Okay, mind backing up and filling us all in. What is going on? When Celeste hinted she'd had this pain before, that was one thing. But now ... it seems like she's not the only one, so ... why? Why is this happening, exactly? Are they okay? Why do they have to hurt like this? It ... doesn't sit well with me."

Fayth, meanwhile, barely managed to give a weak but still affirmative nod.

"Y-Yeah. Don't ... it's fine. Really."

Not that it sounded at all convincing. Very much the opposite, if anything. Still, she made no effort to move off and accept the offer of being helped by medics, either. And when Yusei ended, Fayth would quickly, although shakily, draw. Another error had been made by Yusei. Whether intentional or just an unfortunate circumstance?

Well ... it wasn't about to matter, somewhat sadly.

"Dunames Dark Witch ... attack Synchron Explorer!"

And even with the activation of Shooting Star going off, destroying both her Sanctuary and Zeradias, it did nothing to keep her Dunames from succeeding in depleting Yusei's remaining life. Fayth's legs trembled a few more times before fully caving in. She sank to her knees, panting.

This wouldn't be so bad --- if the past few days, yesterday especially --- hadn't been so horrible in the pain department. But now? Everything was adding up. Her saving grace was at least Yusei seemed to be calming down, hinted by the pain lessening. But it hadn't fully vanished either .... which, if her theory was right, meant a Dark Signer still had their own mark glowing.

Yuna leaned back, not at all looking happy about being forced to simply watch Fayth wince in agony. It was bad enough she wanted to be there. Now more reasons just seemed to be piling up. And if it weren't for the risks linked to her 'crimes'? She'd gladly take that risk.

Unfortunately, sneaking in to warn Fayth had been bold enough. Returning so soon to the Tops wouldn't be a good idea.

.... What bullshit. Usually these 'chosen one' scenarios are supposed to give he selected people benefits, aren't they? Kinda looks like this is the very opposite ....

Yuna had thought Fayth seemed .... off yesterday while fighting Mukuro. Originally, it had been simply due to whom she fought. Now though, as she thought back, she'd made the same move; covered her shoulder.

Being forced to duel ad get shocked had surely been bad enough. But now to see something else would constantly put Fayth - and apparently, others - in agony when something dire happened? That really was fucked up.

And it was her feelings on Fayth's mark that caused Yuna's mood to be ... bittersweet. Glad as she was Fayth had won, all these new revelations made it hard to be as happy as she could - and should - have been.

Oi, Yuna. It's not like she's dying, Hajime tried to reassure, causing Yuna to elicit a defeated sigh before nodding.

.... Yeah. And I appreciate that. Still though, that really is just five thousand shades of wrong. Fuck sakes, she's already blind. That's hard enough on her, no doubt. Now ... whatever the fuck's going on with her shoulder too?

And just like that, Yusei would be finished off in one fell swoop; she had outplayed him, well and truly. But what concerned him was her more than anything...And this burning. Why was it so much worse this time around? Yesterday it was bad, but this...This was nearly unbearable. But in any event, he would rush over to check on his opponent.

"Celeste? You alright? Can you walk?" Yusei would say, kneeling down beside her; when she would give a nod in the affirmative, he would lift her up and have her drape an arm over his shoulders. Even if she wasn't about to pass out, he figured she could use a crutch; whatever was causing the Signs to flare up like this seemed to be hitting her especially hard.

When Luca would ask how Tenzen knew about the dragon, the elderly man just smiled, "Well, it's not my place to say really. But I can tell you that you've been chosen...As have you, Crow. Same goes for Yusei and Miss Belrose there. And I'm sure there are others that will reveal themselves in time as well. I'm afraid the reason for their pain is unknown to me...Perhaps because it is being awakened for the first time in a long time? Their bodies getting used to it and all that?" Crow looked down at his arm, seeing the mark that had just been burning earlier. Come to think of it...Some of what Yusei had said after they'd escaped the Facility was making more sense...But there were still a lot of questions left to be answered.

Takeshi and Yamichi were completely lost by this point, the latter asking "But that hardly seems fair. Can you at least say what they've been chosen? Awakened for what?"

And it was here that Yanagi would then add with a grin, "Why to save the world of course."
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

"Like Hajime said...Ain't like she's dying. Beelze's flames probably cooked her worse than whatever's hurting her shoulder. Besides, she's a big girl. She can take it." Hotsuma would say rather coldly. "Even more so, she won. She can use that to lord over anyone who says women can't duel. That'll be a nice anesthetic for the pain."

Cold? More than likely she and Hajime would think so, but in every way it was also right. His gaze never left the screen, grinning as he then added, "Now then...Can the same be said for Ling? She might put up a fight, sure...But I'm putting money on my man Takeshi. Hell, I'll even go so far as to say he'll unseat that fuckboy Jack Atlas and become the Duel King. That's right, I'm saying it here: He's gonna win the whole tournament." At this he couldn't help laughing.

"Can you imagine that? Their King, someone from the Satellite, and those idiots won't even have a clue!" Hotsuma laughed even more, wiping a tear that formed from the corner of his eyes.

Speaking of which, it would be Ling and Takeshi's very Duel that was coming up next. "Oi, oi...Speaking of which, look who's about to make his debut!" Hotsuma would say, having calmed down a little more. "Come on Takeshi...Let's see that power you've got. Show them what happens when you fuck with the Satellite."

" ... Save the world?" Luca repeated, feeling much more horrified than honored. "N-No! That must be a mistake, I .... I'm just me. A kid. I can barely .... my ability for pain is ridiculously low. I can't be one ..... "

Now she did wanna go back home. This news was scaring her a bit. Okay, more than just that.

But ... this was the last day. If notthing else, she had promised to return so her brother could watch. She'd stick to that promise. All she could do now was frantically pray that wouldn't happen again. Because Luca had almost no doubts she couldn't handle two attractions - God forbid maybe three - in one day.

Ling just sighed. This really was a metaphorical slap to the face. Suddenly, she was finding it hard to draw any will to get up and fight. How could she? Forget being afraid of losing to Takeshi for her own sake; it was Fayth she was much more worried about. So while Fayth and Yusei sat down, Ling would walk up. Before the coin toss, however, she held a hand up and moved next to Takeshi and took a few seconds to quickly whisper, "Just .... promise you won't hurt Fayth too badly. Assuming you win. I know it's not intentional, but ... I really don't feel right knowing just dueling can hurt her, you know? Knowing she has some sort of a trigger. I'm not saying half-ass your duel, but - especially if it is riding for you two - don't make her crash or anything, you know? Please."

She'd wait for a response before finally standing across from Takeshi, taking a long, deep breath.

"M-Miss Celeste? Yusei? You two okay?" Luca managed to inquire, watching the next duel of the semi-finals start up. "You two okay?"

"I feel like I should be asking you that. Yeah though, thanks. It's like .... you know how some drinks have a horrible after taste? Apply that to pain and there ya go. Mostly gone ... but it still throbs every now and again."

"Heads!" Ling would declare, grinning as the coin turned up in her favor. "Still cursed. Maybe there's hope yet; draw!"

Damn. She was actually real close to being able to use Dragon's Mirror. While Ling had realized Fayth's deck would have the perfect element to handle her Five-God Dragon, she was more than willing to take that risk if she could beat Takeshi. "I'll set two cards and then summon Dread Dragon."
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yuna sighed. Unfortunately, Hotsuma's 'call' was .... a very likely reality. Takeshi was no push over, but no one here was. That was how they all got so far.

You really do need to talk to him about not going overboard so much. His swarming, especially, is great for Sector and shit. But like with Yamichi yesterday? Her head shook. Self-restraint .... he does need to know and learn that word.

At this, Hajime intervened, She's right. And has a very good reason to be worried. While you were still recovering in the hospital, the VR system fucked up once, and sent him and Shivini to the hospital. If that ever happened again and he was against someone?

Hajime would let his words sink in, knowing fully well Hotsuma could finish the rest.

They were both lucky Eikichi could help them with a blood transfusion. Otherwise, they'd both probably be dead. So if only for that sake, please talk to him ASAP about that.

I was .... wasn't I? Yuna asked. If she hadn't felt ashamed before now about hiding away in the Tops, now was a time where that sensation got even worse.

Yeah. You were still away at the time, so I was taking over in your stead.

Yuna sighed, a groan simultaneously mingling in. Well, fuck. Great job on her behalf. She rolled her eyes at herself before shifting and finally trying to concentrate solely on the match.

An eyebrow rose - only Dread Dragon in attack?

Well ... then that meant her back-rows were to keep it alive. No brainer. Because Ling was not that reckless nor dumb.

"Oi! That's not funny! Don't scare my sister like that!" Lua snapped, his mouth formed into a tight grimace. Yanagi then held a concerned expression, "That wasn't my intent, young one...If it's any comfort, it's supposed to be only legend. But...With how your marks are reacting, it may not be. But know this..." And he was being very serious here, she would see that much. "The Dragon chooses those that it believes are worthy of its power. Some of those that came before you were only a year or two older, still children themselves...And they faced down the evils that came forth with great determination."

Smiling at Luca, he said "I'll admit I don't know the specifics of how it chooses...Only that it wouldn't give you that power if it didn't feel you were worthy to receive it." Lua seemed utterly perplexed, but just said "Yeah, but Luca gets sick easy! I won't let this Dragon put her in danger because it can't fight its own battles!" Yamichi placed a hand on the kid's shoulder, "Lua...take it easy. Besides, it's as he said....There's still a chance it's legend, right?" Yanagi nodded, "Always...But don't be too surprised if it's not. Stranger things have happened on this world, after all." He didn't know much more...But the things he did hear, he was also kind of hoping it wasn't true. Even if part of him did want to see the Dragon for himself.

Takeshi took her warning with a raised brow. "You make it sound like you're going to lose just by standing up here....But sure, if I happen to win..." He would just leave it at that; honestly, was everyone still worried about what happened between him and Shivini? They fixed it...And honestly, it was kind of starting to irk him that he was being asked to hold back. Yamichi didn't care about him going hard; the guy even asked for it! "Easy man...Just let your duel do the talking."

"Dread Dragon, eh? Going to try for a Synchro Summon?" Takeshi grinned, pushing aside those negative declaring "My turn! Draw!" Ling had always said that Blade God and War God were an integral part of his deck. He was going to show her that she was very much correct in that assessment. "I summon Shiranui Chief Priest and activate its effect to Special Summon Shiranui Hermit from my hand!" At this, two monsters appeared on his field before he would then say, "I release Hermit to Special Summon Shiranui Blessed Sword from my Deck!" A Tuner and a non-Tuner were now present...Which would lead to only one thing.

"I tune Blessed Sword with Chief Priest! Noble warrior, bear of the torch of your ancestors and rise from beyond to strike against darkness! Synchro Summon! Blade God - Shiranui!"

And after the light display was over, there stood the first of his namesake Synchros. The weakest sure, but a powerful monster all the same. "And there it is! Takeshi takes the early lead in summoning a powerful monster!" MC announced, Takeshi going right into his Battle Phase, "Blade God, attack Dread Dragon!"

"Trap Card, open! Holy Barrier - Mirror Force!"

And just as fast as his monster appeared, it was gone. His monster vaporized right before the blade would connect, the purifying light blasting him to dust and after a while, the wind died down. "Well, damn." Takeshi chuckled with a smile; thankfully at least, he still had a back-up plan in case all else failed. "Good play, Ling...But this duel' still young! I'll set one card face-down! Turn end!"

"Restraint? How could he kick that much ass if he held back? If they can't handle him, that's not really Takeshi's prob...." Hotsuma would start to say, but his words died off as Hajime began to explain why Yuna felt that way.

And...Far gone as he was, Yuna would see that concern for the well-being of his guys and hers still remained somewhere. She would see the look on his face was one of pure unadulterated horror and shock. His hand gripped his knee, the knuckles blanching as it seemed like he would dislocate the joint through sheer force alone.

"And....When exactly was someone going to tell me this?"

It was very clear that he wasn't happy about being kept in the dark on that. "It happened while I was out...Goodwin, if I find out you were somehow responsible for that, I'm going to crack your skull like an egg!" he growled, standing up and trying to calm himself down. Getting upset over something that was already done wouldn't help anyone...Nor would it let him enjoy the fact that his guys made it as far as they did. Takeshi even more so, but he was also proud of Yamichi for getting to the Quarter-Finals. He'd seen some of the comments from the replays of the duels, some of them calling out Yamichi for playing such a weak deck. He'd like to see them do as well with a self-destructing type like that, bunch of cowards.

And when Takeshi's monster would be destroyed by Mirror Force, Hotsuma would just say, "You goof...You had to know there was a trap in play." Looking at Yuna, he then said, "See? She's a big girl, she can hold her own. Watch, I bet next turn she actually dings his Life. And if that doesn't kill him...Well, just don't be surprised if he returns with a strike of his own."

"Well ... the odds aren't overly in my favor, no. Your deck is faster than mine. That I know for sure. I'd need a perfect hand, which is borderline impossible. Mind you, I'm still gonna try and all. I'm just being realistic."

Too real?

Maybe. But for Ling, it was better than living in an impossible fantasy. A soft sigh passed her lips - good. He'd gotten one major Synchro out of the way. Hopefully, that'd help her out.

"See what I mean? You're ridiculously fast, so ... Trap Card, Open! Holy Barrier - Mirror Force."

Even with his normally cheerful demeanor, the irritation was still something Ling could pick up on. And while it was a fair reaction, she had no intentions of taking her words back. He'd already damn well nearly killed his own friend once. Purely on accident, but it'd happened nonetheless. Surely, even someone normally as carefree as Takeshi wouldn't want a close call like that to become a reality?

It was why she'd been so adamant with her words.

"My turn! Draw! A Synchro certainly would have been a decent plan, yes. Buuuut I'm seeing a better option so ... here goes! I'll release my Dread Dragon for Strong Wind Dragon! And since another dragon was used, it gains half the attack of the original."

Which, again, bumped it up, stopping just shy of 3000 attack.

"Strong Wind Dragon! Direct attack!"

Perfect. Between her set Cylinders and this, she could do it! She could advance! The thought made her heart pound as she smiled proudly, relieved to see Takeshi had no traps to stop or counter her attack.

"Annnd that's it for now. Your turn!"

There's never been a good time prior to now, Hotsuma, Hajime calmly explained. Between having to get Yuna back and everyone being exhausted afterwards, plus taking some time after that to wind down ... unfortunately, now really was the best opportunity to bring it up. I promise, though, it wasn't meant to seem like anyone was keeping either of you in the dark.

His head would tilt, musing upon some of Hotsuma's rantings.

Honestly? I actually don't think Goodwin was linked to that. They got a lot of techs out and, for a brief time, it did seem to get fixed. But then it just ... went back out of control. The damage became real - that's the best way to explain it.

Became real ... ??

Well ... I guess for a lack of better wording, it was like watching two Psychic duelists fight. Except you know they aren't Psychics. In fact, me and the others were certain for a few moments Divine was behind this rather than Goodwin. But we agreed - if only because it wouldn't gain him anything - this wasn't Divine's doing. It was just a freak accident.

Yuna frowned, already beginning to understand how dire that must have been. If they went to the hospital .... fuck. Shiranui versus Amazons. Steel versus steel, as well as some arrows. Yeah .. that wouldn't have been pretty at all.

The problem isn't Ling can't handle herself. The problem, Hotsuma, is if that ever happened again, would you really be fine with Takeshi direly hurting someone who is completely innocent? Or worse, killing? That is where the self-restraint kicks in. Against Sector? Go for it. Against other duelists such as Ling?

Her head shook.

And if not for my sake, for Yamichi's, since they are lovers. If shit were to go bad now, I guarantee there'd be an inner conflict within the group, with or without me speaking my mind.

For now, however, Yuna would opt to leave it at that and give her attention to the duel. She chuckled softly, seeing Hotsuma's predictions play perfectly out. Well ... that's hardly fair. You can still use your abilities without help. Of course you saw that one coming. But ... fine. Point made all the same.

True...Takeshi didn't want to hurt anyone. But, all his life he went all out because he'd had a reason to. More often than not, he had to be overwhelmingly strong to just get people to leave him be. People thought that Hotsuma was a loner? If they knew about his past, before he joined up with the Disciples...They'd probably not see him in the same light.

And while he'd learned to just let things slide, taking it easy on people out of sake of 'fairness' was still a pet peeve that occasionally bubbled to the surface. Not very often...But sometimes.

All the same, he shielded his eyes and braced himself as Strong Wind's attack hammered his Life, dropping him to 5050. Almost half in a single turn. "Whew! I can see why Yamichi likes ya, Ling! Got the beauty of a woman and the claws of a tiger! I love it!" the brunette would say, smiling even though she'd just walloped him.

"My turn! Draw!"

He had a few options...But that set was likely something else that would either destroy his monsters or reflect his attack back at him somehow. Something the Dragon types in general had in common. They were brute force monsters mostly, the smaller ones letting the larger ones be Summoned more easily.

"I banish Shiranui Blessed Sword and Shiranui Chief Priest from the Graveyard to Synchro Summon! Burst and take revenge against those who wronged you! Revived Demon King, Ha Death!" This would be but one of Takeshi's first moves. "Spiritmaster's effect! When it's banished, I destroy one face-up card you control! Later, Strong Wind!" Spiritmaster's spectral form would appear, a torrent of flame vaporizing the massive beast and shattering its image. However...Another monster effect she played out would make him reconsider; it was the same monster she'd used against Sasaki. A card that could be used for two releases, and could be special summoned when a Dragon was destroyed.

"Next, I activate the Magic Card, Foolish Burial! I send Mezuki to the Graveyard, then activate its effect! I exclude it from the game and Special Summon one Undead monster in my Graveyard! Come back, Blade God!" And just like that, she would find two powerful monsters on her field.

"Then I summon Shiranui Samurai activate Shiranui Style - Swallow's Slash! I release Samurai and destroy Keeper of the Shrine along with your face-down!" And just like that, her field was wide open. "Battle! Revived Demon King and Blade God! Direct Attack!"

And to her near 3000 points of damage, he would respond with almost 5000 points. "Turn end!"

While what Yuna was saying made sense...The whole reason he'd brought Takeshi in was because the guy had an insatiable appetite for strong opponents. To find someone to go all out against. Hell, even during their first encounter he'd barely managed to beat the guy. Takeshi was a guy that respected those who gave it their all, and gave no excuses.

All the same...Cutting down their own wasn't exactly a great option either, thinking logically. Especially if what Hajime and Yuna was saying was remotely true.

"I'll speak to him...But you have to understand something about Takeshi also. He grew up in one of the worst regions of the Satellite. A place where crimes like rape, ransom kidnapping and murder were the highest, which is saying something. Out of most of us, he's had it the roughest in terms of growing up. The only way he could survive was by being the toughest, the strongest. He built his Shiranui because he wanted to buy himself some room to just breathe, let alone try to stop Sector from arresting."

Taking a slight moment to pause and let that sink in, he continued, "My point is, he doesn't do what he does now out of malice. It's part of who he is, just channeled into giving people a challenging Duel. And...It's partially my fault, because I told him that he could go all out whenever he felt like it. I honestly never considered we would be able to have them go into the Tops and use their fancy stadium, let alone that they would face each other in it you know? Just figured we'd be doomed to only use our cards against Sector and that was it."

And when Yuna teased him about predicting it, Hotsuma just smiled, "Oi, that had nothing to do with powers. I'm not a Psychic like that...I just happen to know sometimes when my guy's deck might take a hit or two. You of all people should know my abilities don't work that way...Hajime, help me out here. What's that power called where you just know things before they happened? Yamichi's said it loads of times...Pre-conception?"

However...As Takeshi would take his turn, Hotsuma's attention went back to the Duel. "Well then...Yeah, that's pretty extreme. Pretty badass though, right?" He then pointed at himself with a thumb, "Revived Demon King was a card I gave him after a raid we did. Helps with Graveyard effects...Or at least that's what Yamichi told me."
