The Life of Valor (Grave x Kat)

Scott and Jessica had a great time on their honeymoon. They tasted many great foods, saw many wondrous sights, and enjoyed each other's company to the fullest. After the two weeks were up, they returned to Valor Investigations in New York City to resume working. That Saturday, they decided to take a leisurely drive in a rural area far outside the city, just taking the time to enjoy nature. As they were driving down a dirt road, however, some fool in a red sports car suddenly flew past them at over one hundred miles per hour, nearly running them off the road.
"That idiot's going to kill someone," Scott said with no small amount of anger while he tightly gripped the steering wheel.

Unfortunately, Scott's words proved eerily prophetic. Just up ahead was a bridge spanning a river, and a sedan was coming across the other side. Swerving to avoid the dangerous driver, they ended up with half of their car teetering over the river. Immediately sizing up the danger, Scott stopped and turned to Jessica.
"I'm going to go and catch that guy in the sports car. You try to get those people out before that car plunges into the river."

After Jessica was out of the car, Scott sped off after them. With the accelerator mashed to the floor, he was quickly gaining on them. Scott was thankful that because this was such a rural area, there was not much traffic on these roads. He continued to give chase, trying to get close enough to the car to do a pit maneuver, which was where one car taps the back bumper to make the other car spin out of control. However, the sports car stayed just ahead and showed no intention of slowing down. Scott knew that he had to stop this maniac before he reached a more populated area, otherwise the results could be catastrophic.

Jessica nodded and hurried over to the sedan. smashing the front window with a rock she told the woman and child inside to crawl out the front to prevent the car from tipping back further by opening the doors. The woman managed to get out and as Jessica was helping the child out, with his hand in her's while she knelt on the hood of the car, she heard an ominous scraping noise and felt the sedan start to slide off the bridge. Jessica quickly gripped the boy's hand tighter and pulled, she managed to get him out of the car but they began to plummet after it, with all her strength Jessica swung her arm and flung the boy onto the bridge as she fell down to the water, to almost certain death.

Scott continued to chase the reckless driver, slowly gaining on him through pure determination. At last his front bumper was level with the car's back bumper, and he wasted no time in performing a perfect pit maneuver. At this speed, it was incredibly easy to make the other car spin out. Scott leaped out of his own car like a flash and was to the other car a second after it stopped spinning.
"Try to run and you will be hurt," Scott said with anger in his eyes.
The look in Scott's eyes convinced them and they nodded quickly.

Scott called the police on his phone and they arrived about fifteen minutes later. He explained the situation to them, and the men were arrested for reckless driving and driving under the influence. Scott got into his car and sped back to the bridge, hopeful that Jessica had been able to rescue the passengers of the car. He stopped on the bridge and hurried over, seeing the woman and the child but no sign of Jessica.
"Where's Jessica?" he asked with a bit of concern in his voice.
The woman turned to him and got out between sobs that Jessica had gone over the bridge in the car while attempting to save the child.

Scott's eyes widened in fear and without hesitation he dove over the side. Swimming down, he found the car and swam through the broken window. Fearing the worst, he was shocked to see that Jessica was covered in blue and silver armor that bore a strong resemblance to his Voltari Armor.
What in the world...?
Scooping her into his arms, he swam to the surface and took her over to an embankment. The armor disappeared as he set her down and climbed onto the bank to check on her.

After checking her breathing and checking her over for injuries, he was happy to see that she was unhurt and her breathing was strong. It appeared that the armor had completely protected her from injury, and now it seemed like she was just sleeping. When her eyes started to open, he smiled in relief.
"Hey there. I'm glad to see you're all right."
As she sat up, he braced her with her arms and let her completely come to.

Jessica groaned softly as she woke and found herself on the embankment of the river, looking up at Scott with bleary eyes before sitting up carefully, her eyes widening as she remembered what had happened before she passed out and looked up at him in shock and confusion. "W-What...? Scott? What happened? I thought I... was going to die..." She murmured, even more shocked as she looked down at herself and found no injuries.

Scott felt a lump come into his throat as she expressed confusion as to why she had come through such a dangerous situation unscathed.
"I agree, you should be on your way to the hospital right now. But everything was different when I extracted you from the car."
Before he could elaborate on his words, the police and medical personnel arrived to tend to the wounded. The police took a statement from everyone there, informing them that they might be called in to the station for further questioning, if necessary. The paramedics treated the minor wounds of the mother and daughter, and they were understandably confused upon seeing Jessica completely fine after falling into the river with the car.

"I guess we have a genuine medical miracle on our hands here," the paramedic said after he finished checking Jessica over.
"Yeah, it seems that way," Scott replied with a forced smile to try and make the best of the situation.
The mother and daughter left in the back of the ambulance so that the mother could talk to her insurance and figure out a way home in town, leaving the two alone.
"When I found you..." Scott said as he turned to her, "You were covered in silver and blue armor that resembled my Valor Armor."
He headed back to the car with her and got inside.
"I know it was Voltari Armor, and only Empress Enjela could have made it appear on you like that."

Scott ran a hand through Jessica's hair, relieved that she was unhurt.
"I don't know what Enjela has in mind about this. We need to talk with her back at our place."
Starting up the car, he put it in gear and headed across the bridge back toward town. Jessica was a true-hearted and compassionate person, and her recent combat training had made her strong enough to fight crime beside him, so certainly there was no question of whether she was worthy to wield a Voltari or not. It was all just kind of sudden, and Scott would still worry about her in battle if only because he loved her.

Jessica's eyes were still wide in shock and confusion but she forced her way through the questioning, trying to mask it as best she could. She got back in the car and stared at Scott in shock as he said she'd been covered in voltari armor then looked down at herself, her face unreadable.

Scott drove back to their home and parked the car in the driveway. When he went in with her, he found Enjela sitting in a chair and sipping a cup of tea, clearly waiting on their return.
"You have many questions for me," she said, getting straight to the point.
"Yes, but first I want to thank you for saving Jessica's life. If not for you..."
"I'm sure she would have been fine without my help, but I didn't want anything to happen to her after she had proven herself to be a hero just like her husband."

Scott took Jessica's hand in his gently and sat down on the couch with her facing Enjela.
"You mean that when she saved that woman and child, she became worthy to wield a Voltari?"
"You always were a smart boy, Scott," Enjela replied.
Scott looked over at Jessica while deep in thought, then looked back at Enjela.
"I know that Jessica would make a great Voltari host. Even so, taking on this life is something that should be her choice."

"I completely agree. Jessica is under no obligation to accept a Voltari Soul into her body, nor is she obligated to fight crime. However, because she has proven herself worthy, the Voltari will protect her from certain death for as long as she shall live."
She gave Jessica a compassionate look.
"For as long as I've known her, Jessica has always desired to be as close to you as she possibly could be. To fight by your side, to share this life of danger with you...I think her heart has the answer."

Jessica blinked in surprise as she saw Enjela in their home and sat down next to Scott. She then blinked in surprise when Enjela said she would have been ok from that fall without her help. She doubted that. Jessica held Scott's hand back tightly as he held her's and blinked in surprise when she was deemed worthy weilding voltari and hosting a voltari soul. She looked between them for a moment as they discussed her, remaining silent, then when Enjela looked at her and said that last part she nodded softly. She was visibly shaken by the experience but her eyes held unwavering determination. "I accept." She said firmly.

Enjela smiled softly.
"Okay, I will let you two get acquainted."
She reached out with her hands and a small orb of white light appeared there. Within a moment after its appearance, it flew into the center of Jessica's chest. There would be a numbing sensation in Jessica's body and her mind would go blank as the two souls fused together. Five minutes after it happened, while Jessica was still in a state of unconsciousness, she would hear a soft feminine voice calling out to her.

Scott turned to Enjela.
"Are you sure about this? Even though the Grymwar aren't a threat anymore, having to live this life could be dangerous."
"I simply made the offer, and Jessica accepted it. Jessica has never been afraid of danger, and that's a trait not found in too many individuals regardless of their species or sex."
Scott turned to Jessica and waited for her to wake up, knowing that she would need to get acquainted with the soul living inside of her and come to terms with living the rest of her life with another individual sharing her body.

Jessica looked at the orb curiously before she soon passed out as it entered her body.

In her mind Jessica stood in darkness and heard a voice calling out to her. She slowly approached the sound, moving in her mind to find it. After a moment she'd see a small, glowing worm like creature a bit of a ways away. "Jessica? Hello. My name is Grace, Enjela has told me much about you but... I never imagined you'd be so strong." Grace said as she looked up at Jessica's spirit while Jessica looked down at Grace's. "Well, I went through a lot of training..." Jessica began but Grace shook her little worm head. "I don't mean physically, though you are strong there as well. I mean your mind, your heart... your soul. I can feel strength and courage emanating from it. You've been through so much yet you didn't even waver when offered to take on the same burden Scott had... You only focused on wanting to understand him better and be by his side as an equal. That's very strong." Grace spoke with a similar accent to Valor, almost british but not quite, though her voice was very feminine and refined sounding.

While Jessica and Grace got acquainted, Scott and Enjela began to discuss other topics.
"The Grymwar...Have they done as I asked and returned their soldiers to their home planet?"
"They have. Their empire built upon brutal domination is no more. Kashak, the elder you spoke to back on Grym, has become their new chieftain, and rules with a more restrained hand than Dulzak or Vizharr. A line of communication has been opened between Kasha and Grym, and it is hoped that someday our two peoples may become friends and allies."

"What are Kashak's current plans?"
"He wants to research the history of his people and find out how Blood Magic came to exist on the planet Grym. While the Grymwar have almost always viewed it as integral to their culture, none have ever been able to pinpoint its source."
"Is it native to Grym?"
"I am unsure. Blood Magic comes from a red cloud of energy hidden within a cave somewhere on the planet, and within this cave lies the desiccated corpse of a humanoid, perhaps the source of the energy cloud."

"But you don't know if this humanoid is native to Grym or not."
"That is correct."
Scott crossed his arms and seemed deep in thought.
"Blood Magic is a dangerous weapon in the hands of the evil. I only hope that unraveling the secrets of such an ancient power will not embolden Kashak to attack us."
"We have little to fear with the power of the Destroyer in our corner."

Scott nodded with the best smile he could muster, but he had a gut feeling that there was danger on the horizon. If Blood Magic was foreign to Grym, then where did it come from? Who created it, and why? Where did the desiccated humanoid fit into the picture? There were so many questions but so few answers. Scott sat back on the couch and folded his hands behind his head, resolving to keep an eye on the events as they unfolded on Grym.

"You have been through much Jessica, and I am sorry for your losses..." Grace continued. "But know that I only wish to help you, I am here to guide you when you need and support you when you don't. I am here for you." Jessica blinked in surprise as she stared at the Voltari and began to get snippets of her past as well. "Because you weren't able to be there for them?" She asked gently. Grace dipped her head and nodded sadly. "My children... yes... they fell ill many years ago and I was unable to raise them and love them as I wish I could have. I do not intend to replace them with you, nor do I intend to treat you like a child... but I hope that maybe someday you can view me as a bit of a mother figure, I do not in any way intend to replace your dearly departed mother... but at the very least, maybe an older sister?" She chuckled softly. "I know it sounds strange coming from someone of such a different species but I suppose the loneliness has gotten to me over the years." Jessica shook her head. "No, I think it's beautiful you're taking your grief and using it to try and help others...." Grace gave Jessica a tiny smile and responded. "Well, I suppose it is time you got back to the love of your life, he's patiently waiting for you to wake."

An hour after passing out Jessica groaned softly from where she lay on the couch and slowly opened her eyes, feeling like a new person almost.

Scott turned his head as Jessica awoke, smiling as she adjusted to the waking world again.
"Well, how do you feel?"
Scott remembered how he felt after his first mental conversation with Valor, and he could imagine how she was feeling. Enjela leaned forward a bit in interest.
"I think you and Grace should get along just fine. She so badly wanted to bond with a human, and I think Jessica will be just the person to put her heart at ease."

Scott reached out and gently took Jessica's right hand in both of his.
"Well, she is very good at bringing out the best in people."
After a loving look passed between them, he gently pulled her close to him so that she could snuggle into his side. Scott kissed Jessica on the top of the head and then turned to face Enjela.
"Will Alan be handling Jessica's training as he did with me?"
"No, I believe it would be more beneficial for you to train her."

Scott saw the logic of it, and turned to face his wife once more.
"Tomorrow we will travel to Solaris and use Alan's training room. It takes a significant amount of time to master a Voltari Soul, but Alan's room will shave that time down considerably. The most important thing is that you and Grace need to trust and believe in each other, even in the most dangerous of situations. No matter how hard it is or how long it takes, though, I promise that I will be guiding you every step of the way."
Enjela smiled at Scott's kind words, knowing that the love between the two of them would overcome any obstacle.

Jessica rubbed her eyes a bit as they adjusted to the light then smiled at Scott. "Different..." She replied to his question with a soft chuckle before sitting up and looking over at Enjela, smiling a bit before she blushed softly at Scott's praise. Jessica then smiled and cuddled into his side as he pulled her close, resting her head on his strong chest. She then blinked in surprise when Enjela said Scott would be training her but nodded softly and smiled at Scott lovingly at his words. "We're in your care." Though it sounded as though there were two voices coming from Jessica's mouth, one being her's and another sounding different, more eloquent and proper.

Scott tilted his head a bit to the side in curiosity as two voices seem to come from Jessica's mouth. One was the same voice he had grown to love, but the other was the almost British accent that many Voltari spoke with.
Did we ever seem to be talking through my mouth at the same time, Valor?
Not that I'm aware of.
Perhaps with them both being female, they are able to bond in a different way than two male beings.
Every soul bond is different, so perhaps this phenomena is unique to Jessica and Grace alone.

Scott nodded.
"You can count on me. Just don't get mad if the training gets a little, uh, naughty sometimes."
He gave her a wolfish grin and then playfully kissed her neck. This got a laugh out of Enjela before she stood up.
"Well, I have important business back on Kasha, so I will leave you to it."

Enjela bowed to both of them in turn before disappearing. Scott gently ran his hand through Jessica's hair and looked serious again.
"It is my fondest wish that we fight evil together, side-by-side for as long as we both desire. You will be my partner in all aspects of my life, and my love for you will only grow deeper with time."
Scott held her hands in his and rested his forehead against hers. With Jessica fighting by his side, no evil would stand a chance.

Jessica blinked a moment, seeming momentarily surprised by the fact she and Grace could speak at the same time as well before blushing brightly at Scott's teasing and shoved his shoulder playfully as he kissed her neck. She then glanced at Enjela in embarrassment as she was still in the room then nodded at her in farewell. She then smiled at Scott lovingly and closed her eyes as their foreheads rested together. "I'm glad... I love you..." She murmured, just her this time.

Scott smiled back.
"I love you, too."
He kissed her gently then, holding her close and kissing her for some time. For a long time he just showed her gentle and caring love, never getting too lustful. He was not doing it to initiate sex, but simply to give her the romantic, intimate attention that she thrived on. Soon they were snuggling together and watching TV as the sun went down.

Scott turned off the TV after it got late and turned to his wife. His loving look said it all, and he gave her a gentle kiss on the lips before taking her hand and leading her into the bedroom. They dressed for bed and then got in, with Scott holding her as she snuggled into his side. The moonlight shone through the curtains, illuminating Jessica's beautiful features. He gently caressed her back and closed his eyes, basking in her warmth and love. Within moments, he was asleep.

Jessica smiled softly then sighed happily in the kiss, closing her eyes and kissing him back just as long and lovingly. She cuddled in his arms while they watched tv and then smiled at him lovingly as they headed to bed. She sighed in comfort as he rubbed her back and admired his profile in the moonlight before soon falling asleep as well.

The next morning, Scott awoke and got cleaned up, waiting for Jessica to do the same. When they were both ready, Scott contacted Alan telepathically and explained that he would be training Jessica how to use a Voltari within Solaris. Instantly a portal opened up and the two walked through it before it closed behind them. Scott led Jessica to the training room before turning to face her.
"The first step toward building the Voltari Armor is to resonate the waves of your soul in harmony. You and Grace seem to have become friends, and that will help tremendously, but it still will not be easy to get your harmony exactly right."

Scott closed his eyes and relaxed his body.
"Close your eyes and release all tension in your body. Think of all that it is that you care about, and think about what it is you want to protect. This will determine your aura color, and Grace will do the same thing separately. When your auras have successfully mixed, you will be ready for the next step."
Scott glowed with a gold and white aura, showing how his aura and Valor's had mixed together as one.

Jessica yawned as she woke and stretched, smiling at him lovingly before taking a shower and getting dressed. She walked into the protal with him and listened to him intently. She nodded softly and closed her eyes, letting out a breath as she relaxed her body then thought about all the things she cared about and wanted to protect, she wanted to protect her father, she wanted to make her mother proud, she wanted to help all those who she could and most of all, her love for Scott. Her aura started to flare up a bit, it shining a deep, vibrant Magenta.

Grace also pictured the things she cared about and wanted to protect. Her home planet, to guide and teach others, her children who passed away, and Jessica. Grace's aura flared around Jessica's body as well, it showing a soft, calming Azure Blue. Their auras flared around Jessica as they tried to merge them, though it didn't come easy, they stayed separated and when they tried to mix they would start to leak into each other before misting away from each other again, though with each try the intermingling would get further and more mixed.

Scott was impressed that Jessica and Grace were both able to manifest an aura so quickly. This meant that they had no doubts about what they wanted to protect and how they would do it. The blending of the auras, however, was never an easy task, since it required complete trust in each other and a swallowing of the ego. It was never easy to give up one's identity as they have known it and embrace a new one. This would be a challenge even for a pair that liked and respected each other, as they would have to learn to take certain characteristics they had in common as being one. By the end of the exercise, both Jessica and Grace would retain individual aspects of their personalities, but they would also come to regard certain aspects of themselves as no longer just their own, belonging to both of them. When this happened, their auras would blend as one, and this would represent a blending of their souls and their personalities. Jessica and Grace would have to understand each other completely and see themselves as one before the transformation would be complete.

It took Grace and Jessica many hours of trial and error for them to merge their auras, they learned about each other in more depth and bonded over their commonalities. Finally, after four hours of this, they were able to merge their auras.

Scott waited patiently as Jessica and Grace worked to merge their auras into one. He knew from experience that this was a process that could not be rushed, a process that would have taken days in real time. That time had been shortened considerably to four hours within Alan's realm, and he smiled proudly as Jessica glowed with an azure blue and magenta aura that produced a beautiful fusion of colors.
"Congratulations, you have taken the first step toward mastering the VAWS."
He jerked his thumb toward Alan's cafeteria.
"Before we continue the training, let's both replenish our bodies with food and drink."
Walking with Jessica into the cafeteria, he willed a tall glass of Pepsi with ice and a large supreme pizza onto the table. Sitting down, he enjoyed himself while Jessica had what she wanted.

Jessica was panting softly from the exertion of the effort she put into trying to fuse their auras. She nodded as Scott suggested food and followed him. She got a blt and a raspberry lemonade.

After they were done eating, the training resumed. Scott stood before Jessica, looking very serious.
"Now that you have mastered how to fuse your auras, you must attempt to 'fuse' bodies. You must attempt to manifest Grace's shell on your body, and this will be your sword and shield."
He extended his pinky finger and easily manifested Valor Armor on it.
"Try and manifest it as I have."
The pinky was the smallest finger and would make a good starting point for giving her first a fist and then a whole arm to fight and defend with. It would not be easy to manifest even this little bit of grace, so Scott was here to guide her through it and keep her focused.
