The Life of Valor (Grave x Kat)

Jessica followed him back to the training area and looked at him, nodding at his words and she held out her pinky finger, trying to manifest Grace's armor on her pinky, it glowed a bit with their aura but she couldn't seem to get the armor to form.

Scott watched as she tried to manifest the armor on her pinkie, staying silent so that she could focus. She could get the aura to cover it, but the armor itself remained elusive. After thirty minutes of silence, he finally spoke.
"Close your eyes and see remember Grace how she was when you first met. Visualize her shell covering your pinkie, and think about all that you want to defend. Focus your whole being on it."

Watching Jessica reminded him of when he was standing where she was and Alan was coaching him through the process. After an awkward first meeting, he and Valor had bonded and merged their auras after a day and a half of hard training. When it came to the actual armor manifestation, he imagined the faces of all of the innocent children he knew who would have been wiped out in a Grymwar Invasion if he was not there to protect them. Such thoughts allowed him and Valor to explode with a powerful aura and manifest the black and gold armor with incredible speed. Jessica had no such impending crisis, so she and Grace had to come up with their own reason to fight. If they could find that reason, there would be no holding them back.

Jessica nodded and closed her eyes, imagining Grace's form and visualizing her blue and silver armor and focused on the things she wanted to protect, communicating with Grace in her mind.

Grace, what is it you want to protect.

Grace focused on the things she wanted to protect.

I want to protect what's important to you.

Grace, that's why we can't get the armor to form, you need to think of what you want to protect, for your own reasons...

Grace seemed to pause at that, the aura fading completely as she contemplated.

I... I want to protect... She seemed to struggle to find something of great importance for her to protect. She thought of her children, but they were gone, she thought of her home planet, but that was safe. Then she finally found something. The families.

Jessica's mind flashed back to her father and her deceased mother and she smiled a bit, nodding. Yes, I want to protect the families out there...

So they never have to experience the pain of loss I have.
They thought in unison and their aura flared up in a super charged strength. Jessica opened her eyes and held out her pinky, it became covered in silver and blue armor, she smiled proudly.

Scott also smiled proudly as Jessica manifested the Armor of Grace on her pinkie.
"Well done, ladies."
He manifested his own Armor of Valor on his pinkie and took Jessica's pinkie like they were doing a pinkie promise.
"I love you, Jessica."
He willed away his armor and taught her how to do the same thing with her mind. She would be tired from the day's exertion and would need a rest.

"Let's stop for today and continue the training tomorrow."
He took her by the arm and walked with her into a room in Alan's palace.
"We both have experience with this bed, so rest in it and get your strength back."
He got into bed with her and covered up. Holding her close, he closed his eyes and rested his head on the soft pillow. With a smile on his face as he dreamed of his beautiful bride, he fell asleep.

Jessica smiled happily at Scott's praise then smiled at him lovingly. "I love you too." She replied then nodded tiredly after she willed away her armor, following him to bed and crawling into it, closing her eyes with a soft smile as she cuddled into the warmth of her husbands arms.

The next morning, they got up and got around before getting to the training. When they were standing where they were the previous day, Scott smiled at her.
"Well, you got one finger yesterday, so let's see if you can get the whole fist today."
His expression turned serious.
"Remember what I taught you, but take it slow. Your body will need to get used to that kind of spiritual exertion, and if you push it too hard too fast, the training will end early today."
Scott then watched patiently as Jessica and Grace started their training. The ability to believe in each other and focus their combined power was crucial, and he hoped that they could continue to be successful in doing so.

Scott watched proudly as Jessica was able to manifest the Armor of Grace on her full fist.
"Awesome work!"
He kissed her on the head.
"Okay, now you need to practice with it. We'll practice conventional blows at first, then work our way up to blows infused with spirit energy. Do you want to have lunch before we get started?"

Scott headed with Jessica into the cafeteria and conjured up a plate with a few tacos on it along with a glass of ice water. After finishing his meal and giving Jessica time to finish hers, they returned to the training area.
"Okay, so you already have the martial arts mastery needed to use this weapon effectively, but you'll need to compensate for the weight when throwing hand strikes. We'll start with some pottery so that you can get used to using the weapon."
Conjuring up three clay pots sitting on pedestals, he stood back to let Jessica strike it how she would. His plan was to increase the durability of the targets so that she could get an idea of the power of her new weapon while disciplining herself in how to use it.

Scott nodded with approval as she punched the first part.
"Good, that was just fine. As long as you remember to compensate for the added weight while maintaining speed and technique, you'll be fine."
After she was finished with the clay pots, he summoned up some blocks of marble.
"Recall that when hitting something, you're aiming for what's behind the target. You aim for that, and the object in your path is just in your way."

Jessica shattered the rest of the pots then nodded at his words, staring down the marble and took a breath, clenching her fist again she punched the marble to get to the wall behind it.

Scott nodded in approval and increased the durability of the targets as time wore on. Eventually they reached a block of diamond, the hardest substance on planet Earth.
"Alright, this is the last one. Use everything you've learned up to this moment to destroy it."

Jessica nodded and took a breath, focusing her energy to break through the diamond and then threw the punch, she managed to crack it and chip some pieces off but it didn't shatter.

Scott cocked his head to the side.
"Not enough power. You'll need more. Let's start again."
Waving his hand, the blocks of diamond disappeared and were replaced with new ones. They would repeat this process until Jessica could shatter one in a single blow, so that she would know just how much power to use.

Scott gave a big smile as she finally got it.
"Awesome work!"
He gave her a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"Okay, so now we move to the big lesson of today. Your armored punch will be enough for both criminals, but it won't be enough to put down most super villains. For them, you're going to need a Fist of Grace."

Scott manifested armor on his right arm and then coated it in solid white and gold energy, holding it out for her to see.
"As you can see, I can quickly create a Fist of Valor strike, and then release our combined spiritual energy on impact. Once you've trained enough, you and Grace will be able to do it just as easily."
He released the energy and the arm disappeared. Stepping back, he gave Jessica room to work.
"Go ahead and try combining your auras into preparation for an attack."

Jessica smiled softly at his hug and kiss then nodded at his words. She took a breath and closed her eyes, working with Grace to combine their aura's over the armored arm for an attack. It took a couple hours of perfecting it but by the end of the day they were able to create the fist of Grace fairly easily.

After Jessica and Grace were easily able to combine their powers, Scott summoned a brick wall for her to practice the attack on.
"The Fist of Grace will be the first technique you have that combines your spirit energies into offense. Use it carefully at first, but practice it diligently."
Scott moved well behind Jessica so that he would not be in danger, and waited patiently for her to accomplish this milestone in her training.

Jessica nodded and took a nervous breath, staring the wall down as her fist began to glow with the aura of her and Grace before she released the punch against the brick wall.

Scott watched as the brick wall exploded outward from the force of her punch.
"That was awesome!"
From this moment forward, he knew that all of their hard work had paid off. He smiled happily at Jessica, really pleased at their progress.
"Alright, let's practice some more!"
He created another brick wall for her.

One year later

A pair of supervillains, one wielding fire powers and one wielding ice powers, were on the run after robbing a large bank. The police were not able to stop them, so it fell to Scott and his new partner Jessica to take the reins. Scott had helped her get armor and a disguise from Shadowgreen to help protect her while she built up her Votari Armor, though she had made amazing progress and had two full Voltari arms. Scott jumped from an alleyway and landed a Fist of Valor strike on the fire user, sending him bouncing uncontrollably in the street. The ice user kept running, not knowing yet that Crusader was no longer a one man show. Turning around, his jaw dropped as he saw an unexpected obstacle to his escape.

Jessica smirked as she stood in the ice user's path. "You know, that money doesn't belong to you." She said in a smooth voice and prepared her fist of Grace. Let's return that money to the families who earned it. Grace said and Jessica nodded before charging the ice user. "Fist of Grace!" She exclaimed as she released the powerful attack at the man's solar plexus.

The ice supervillain took the blow dead on and his face went white as a sheet. His mouth dropped open as all of the air was forced from his body and he was thrown backwards from the force of the blow. He rolled head over heels for several feet before being stopped by a tree and falling unconscious. Scott had dragged over his unconscious fire supervillain and was smiling at Jessica behind his helmet.
"Nice work, partner."
He went and got the ice supervillain as the sound of a humvee coming up the street could be heard.

The black humvee stopped and Nick stepped out of the driver's side.
"I'll take those guys off of your hands."
Supervillains were too dangerous to be housed in regular prisons, so Scott and Jessica had worked out an arrangement with Shadowgreen. They would defeat the supervillains, and then one of the Shadow Force would come to take them back to Shadowgreen, where they would be placed in a special prison under the school that was designed for those with powers. The arrangement was working out great, and Scott and Jessica's marriage had never been better. Most couples would be at each other's throats after spending so much time together, but it had only made Scott and Jessica deeper soul mates.

Nick put special handcuffs on them that nullified their powers and placed them in the back seat of the humvee. He would then drive back to the airport, load the humvee on the jet, and fly back to Shadowgreen.
"Be safe, Nick," Scott said as he got ready to leave.
"Same to you guys."
As Nick left, Scott returned home with Jessica and his armor disappeared. Once Jessica had removed her facial covering, he placed a deep, gentle kiss on her lips and laid her down on the couch.

Scott looked into her eyes with a smile and ran his left hand down her back and legs.
"You know, you're really starting to get good at this whole superhero thing. I've fallen deeper in love with you if that's possible."
Scott kissed her again, holding her close and giving her gentle kisses that were more romantic than sexual in nature. This way she could still talk to him and return his affections her own way. Not that Scott wasn't interested in sex, he was just leaving the ball in her court too since they had a great deal of equality in their marriage.

Jessica thanked Nick for taking care of the villains then walked home with Scott, taking off her mask she blushed brightly and let out a soft whimper at his kiss, looking up at him shyly as he laid her on the couch. She then smiled a bit as he said she was getting good at the superhero thing. She then chuckled at his comment of being deeper in love with her and sighed happily as she was kissed. She kissed him back lovingly, wrapping her arms around his shoulders as she kissed him deeply and lovingly, portraying her love not in words so much but in the kiss, and through the spiritual connection they had formed on Kasha.
