The Life of Valor (Grave x Kat)

(lol, her hair color keeps changing, I started her out with black hair, then you said it faded to brown, now it's blonde? :p)

Jessica smiled politely at the woman and said. "Hello, I'm sorry to bother you. I had decided to take a walk today but now I really need to use a bathroom. Do you mind awful terribly if I use yours? I'd really appreciate it." She said as she looked at her somewhat pleadingly.

(My bad lol. I'll try to remember that it's brown.)

Hello, I'm sorry to bother you. I had decided to take a walk today but now I really need to use a bathroom. Do you mind awful terribly if I use yours? I'd really appreciate it.
"Well, I..." Francesca started to say, really unsure about letting a stranger into her apartment.
Looking around, she could see no one else with her, and her pleading expression softened her heart.

"Okay, I guess it couldn't hurt anything."
She opened the door wider to let Jessica come inside, pointing out where the bathroom was as she bypassed the living room. She kept a close eye on her as she walked, ready to run out the door and scream for help if she was suddenly attacked. As a single woman living alone in the city, she was justifiably paranoid of strange visitors. Seeing Jessica enter from outside, Scott was happy that the operation was a success. Francesca stood in the living room and waited for Jessica to be done so that she could guide her back out of the apartment.

Jessica smiled at her thankfully. "Thank you so much." She said in a convincingly relieved voice as she walked inside and walked straight to the bathroom though looked around a little as she did to see if the camera on the glasses would catch anything but there didn't seem to be anything in the living room unusual. However, that was a different story in the bathroom. She saw male shampoo and body soap in the shower, a men's electric razor on the counter next to the sink, as well as male deodorant, a comb that would do nothing to Francesca's thick, luxurious hair but break, and a second case for contacts. She caught all this with the camera on the glasses before she ran the sink a bit to sound like she was peeing before she flushed the toilet and washed her hands. She then walked back out of the bathroom and smiled at Francesca. "Thank you again for letting me use your bathroom." She said politely as she headed back for the door.

Thank you again for letting me use your bathroom.
"You're welcome," Francesca replied with a friendly smile.
She walked Jessica over to the front door and waved to her as she exited before closing it behind her. When Jessica exited the house, Scott pulled up to pick her up.
"Good job," he congratulated her with a smile.
They drove back to their office building and took the elevator up to Valor Investigations.

Plugging a small USB drive into the glasses, he was able to view the footage taken by the hidden camera on Jessica's computer. The living room of Francesca's apartment looked normal, but the bathroom had many toiletries that a woman living alone shouldn't have. It didn't prove anything by itself, but it did beg the question of why she had so many male toiletries that did not belong to Jeff in her apartment. Scott planned to follow her the next day and see if he could get any answers as to why there were strange results coming up in this case.
"The results were great, but I'd better get back out there. I don't want to miss her if she decides to go out again."

Grabbing a bottle of water and a few munchies, Scott gave Jessica a parting peck on the lips before heading back down to the SUV. He drove as quickly as he could to get back to Francesca's street, relieved when he saw that her car was unmoved. Opening a small bag of chips, he ate as he watched her door as often as he could. While he did this, he pondered over what the results of Jessica's surveillance could mean.

Jessica smiled at him and hopped in the car before they made it back to the office. She smiled at him as he said she did well before nodding to him, kissing him back softly before he left and waiting around the office.

Scott sat around, waiting and watching until night fell. It seemed like Francesca wasn't going to do anything else, and he felt like going home, but there was no way to leave his post. Knowing that Jessica would be home by now, he decided to Skype call her like he had the previous night. After she picked up, he gave her a smile.
"Hey, babe. Anything happen back at the office while I was away?"

Jessica made it home then smiled as she answered the skype call. "Hey love. No, it was incredibly boring today after I left you. Seems like it's the same for you?"

Scott smiled as he saw Jessica's face when she answered the Skype call.
Hey love. No, it was incredibly boring today after I left you. Seems like it's the same for you?
"Yeah, I'm gonna hang around for a bit and head home. Spending two nights away from home doesn't sound appealing."

He talked with Jessica for a while, then ended the call with her, letting her know he'd be coming home in another hour. He spent that hour checking Francesca's door, making sure she didn't head out anywhere. After the hour had elapsed, he got out and set up a hidden camera in a streetlight to watch Francesca's door. Scott would collect it in the morning and at least know if his quarry had left that night. He then headed home and parked in his driveway. Once in the house, he smiled and headed for Jessica, a big smile on his face.

"Hey, sweetheart."
He put his arms around her and gently lifted her onto the counter. He then kissed her deeply on the lips, showing her his love. He then pulled her toward him and held her around the waist while her legs were wrapped around his. Scott then carried her over to the couch and sat down, letting her lay in his lap while they watched TV together. He would kiss her every now and then, giving her the romantic attention he knew she missed when he was away from home working.

Jessica smiled as he said he would be coming home and smiled a bit. When he got home she'd been doing dishes from making him some dinner before she gasped softly in surprise at being lifted and kissed like that, blushing brightly as she sighed happily, kissing him back just as lovingly. She then blushed more as she was carried to the couch and cuddled and kissed so much. She sighed happily as she snuggled into his chest. "I made you some bacon and cheese stuffed chicken when you're hungry."

Scott enjoyed the closeness with Jessica, feeling warm as she returned his love.
I made you some bacon and cheese stuffed chicken when you're hungry.
"Thanks, babe. You're the best."
Scott put his arms around her as she snuggled into his chest and smiled. He turned his attention to the TV and watched it for a bit, quietly enjoying his time with Jessica.

On a commercial, he turned to Jessica.
"Have you eaten yet? I hope you didn't fix dinner for me and none for yourself."
When she looked into his eyes, he looked back with a warm, loving gaze. Gently brushing some hair from her face, he gave her a soft peck on the lips. His hand gently reached up to cup her cheek, letting her feel more of his affection.

Jessica looked up at him and sighed happily at the sweet affection. Don't worry, I ate a bit before you arrived." She murmured and kissed him sweetly before pulling back so he could get up and go eat.

Scott nodded.
"Okay, just as long as you have eaten."
He got up and went into the kitchen, retrieving some of the chicken, putting them on a plate, and then coming back to the couch. He sat down next to Jessica and began to eat while watching TV.
"Wow, this is really good."
He ate for a bit, and then thought about his current case.

"So, what do you think about what's going on with Francesca? Do you think she's cheating, or is Jeff blowing things out of proportion?"
When dealing with the actions of a woman, it was a good idea to get another woman's insight into things. They could sometimes understand another woman's actions better than a man could. It also helped that Jessica didn't have quite the suspicious, law-enforcement mind that he had. Her different perception might point out something he had missed.

Jessica smiled as he complimented her cooking then nodded as she thought. "Well, there's no denying she had men's toiletries in her bathroom, that's pretty strongly pointing to a man staying at her house often enough to leave his stuff, but we still don't know for sure, for all we know, it could be Danny, but this Danny guy could be her brother. We don't know who this man is still."

Scott nodded, impressed by Jessica's reasoning.
"That's true, we don't know who this 'Dan' guy is that she referenced in her Facebook status. He's not showing up anywhere in her life, not even on social media. She could have a male relative staying at her house and she doesn't want anyone to know for some reason."
He thought for a moment as he ate, pondering over leads he hadn't investigated.
"Jeff said that Dan wasn't a member of Francesca's yoga class, but I think I'll talk to her instructor just in case."

When investigators hit a wall, it was often helpful to start over from square one and look more closely at leads that might have been overlooked. The yoga class lead could be a dead-end, but he wouldn't know for sure until he tried. After he finished eating, he cuddled with Jessica and watched TV for another couple hours. When he got too tired, he carried Jessica bridal-style to bed and got into bed with her. He snuggled her close to him and closed his eyes. Within minutes, he was asleep.

Jessica smiled and nodded in agreement. "Good idea." She said as she cuddled him and watched tv. Blushing a little when she was picked up and carried to bed she smiled at him lovingly and snuggled with him as they slept.

The next morning, Scott got up and fixed breakfast for him and Jessica. After they had eaten and cleaned up for the day, he drove with her to work and parked in the employee parking garage. It was nice to be able to go with her to work, since his job had kept him very busy lately. He took the elevator up to the business with her, and let her off there.
"I'm heading up one floor to talk to the yoga instructor. See you in a few."

When the elevator opened again, he approached Ms. Harper, his former client the yoga instructor.
"Mr. Young, it's so nice to see you. Thank you again for helping me out with my case. Is there something I can do for you?"
"Yes, I'd like to ask about one of your students, Francesca?"
"She's not in any trouble is she?" Ms. Harper asked, looking concerned.

"No, no, I'm just doing some background investigation for a case I'm on."
"Okay, what do you want to know about her?"
"Has she ever mentioned someone named Dan to you? Maybe the name of a friend, relative, lover perhaps?"
"Well, the only lover she ever mentioned to me was Jeff, and he actually visited here asking about someone named Dan, as well. The name is sort of familiar, but it wasn't a personal connection."

Ms. Harper thought about it for a minute, and then snapped her fingers.
"I remember now! Dan is the name of her doctor, at the Medical Plaza on Fifth and Herst."
"You're sure?"
"Yeah, she's been getting major surgery for a while now and says he's been very supportive on her journey."
"Thank you so much, Ms. Harper, you've been a big help," Scott replied as he shook her hand.

"No, problem. Come back if you ever want to do some yoga. I'll give you a lesson on the house."
Scott nodded and took the elevator back down to his office, smiling as he exited the elevator and walked over to Jessica's desk.
"I found out that Dan is Francesca's doctor, and I know where he works. I'm going to go and do some research on him right now."

Going over to his computer, Scott found the medical plaza, and discovered that the only Dan working there was Dr. Daniel Woodcraft, a specialist in plastic surgery. It was hardly uncommon that a woman would visit a plastic surgeon in New York, but he wondered about the connection here. He needed to follow Francesca to an appointment to see Dan, but he had no idea when that appointment would be. Looking over at Jessica, he realized that he would need her help again.
"Jessica, I need your help on something. Do you think you could imitate Francesca's voice over the phone?"

Jessica yawned as she woke to the smell of breakfast and smiled happily as she climbed out of bed and kissed his cheek lovingly. "Thank you for making breakfast love." She said as she sat down to eat. Once she was done she got showered and dressed before riding into work with him. She nodded as he said he was going to speak with the yoga instructor and kissed him softly. "Alright, love you." She said and went into the office to sort out some new mailed in cases.

Jessica blinked in surprise and nodded. "I see, that's a good sign, doesn't completely clear the air about an affair but it does make it much less likely." She said as she continued sorting. Jessica looked up and hesitated uncertainly. "Well... I mean, I could try but I don't know if I could be convincing to sound like her..."

Scott listened as Jessica expressed doubts about whether she could pull it off.
"Well, I'm going to need you to give it your best shot. I have to know when her next appointment is. It's our best shot at figuring this out."
He went over to her desk and dialed the number of the doctor's office, waiting to complete the call when Jessica was ready.
"Just give it your best shot, I know you can do it."

Jessica swallowed nervously but took a deep breath and nodded to him as she waited for him to dial and took the phone when it was ringing. When the receptionist answered she spoke in Francesca's voice as best she could. "Hello, this is Francesca (last name) I seem to have forgotten to write down when my next appointment with Dr. Woodcraft. When was it again?"

The receptionist at Dr. Woodcraft's office took the call on the second ring.
"Hello, Dr. Woodcraft's office."
She listened as a patient named Francesca mentioned that she had forgotten the date of her next appointment.
"Hold on just one moment."
After pulling up Francesca's information on the computer, she found her next appointment.
"Your next appointment is tomorrow at 9 AM."

After the call was done, Scott received the information from Jessica.
"See, I told you everything would be fine."
He gathered up some food and water to go out on another stakeout.
"See ya later, babe," he said as he gave her a kiss on the lips.
Ten minutes later, he was once again sitting outside of Francesca's house. Leaning back in his seat, he watched and waited for something to happen as time ticked by.

Jessica thanked the receptionist and hung up. Once she'd told Scott the information she smiled a little uncertainly but nodded. She kissed him back and went back to her desk to work.

(I'm going to skip ahead a little bit in this post to get to the relevant stuff.)

Scott retrieved his video camera from where he had left it and went over the footage while he waited, not seeing anything of any importance. The entire wait was uneventful, with Francesca going nowhere all day. Scott clocked off at midnight and went home to spend some time with Jessica before going to bed. The next morning, he arose at 7:00 AM to shower and shave before following Francesca to her doctor's appointment.
"I have to go, babe," he said, giving Jessica a kiss.
He then drove to Francesca's apartment and waited for her to leave.

When Francesca left at 8:30 AM to head to her doctor's appointment, Scott followed from a safe distance. They reached the medical plaza in fifteen minutes, and Scott parked in the southwest corner so that he could see the entire parking lot. Once Francesca had gone inside, he hustled over to the sign by the door and saw that Dr. Daniel Woodcraft not only did plastic surgery, but also did gender reassignment surgery. The implications of this were stunning, but he still needed more evidence before he could come to any conclusions. Scott could not go in and loiter around a doctor's office, so he sat in the car and waited to see if anything else would happen. He had more work to do after this, so he went over his strategy while he waited for Francesca to reappear.

(kk and you can just keep going until you're ready to actually have Jessica do something. You've kinda been leaving me with nothing to write in almost every post.)

(Sorry about that. It's difficult to work Jessica into these investigations, so I'll try to wrap it up as best I can.)

When Francesca reappeared, he saw that she was carrying a sheet that would allow her to be admitted in for surgery. With Dr. Woodcraft's status as a gender reassignment doctor, he had his suspicions but he had to be sure. Following her a safe distance from the plaza, he called her to pretend to be one of Dr. Woodcraft's employees.
"Hello?" he heard her ask on the other end of the line.
"Hi, this is Scott from Dr. Woodcraft's office. Is this Francesca I'm speaking to?"

"Yes, it's me. Does Dr. Woodcraft need anything?"
"No, no. He just wanted me to call and ask if you had any questions before going into the surgery."
"Actually, yes, I did have a question. This is a bit of a major surgery, so there has been something on my mind."

"Sure, go ahead."
"After I get my Adam's apple shaved down, how long will it be before I can eat solid food again?"
This cemented Scott's suspicions that Francesca was a man transitioning to become a woman. He knew that Jeff had no idea that he was dating a transgender female, and was already dreading being the one to have to break the news to him.
"Ah, you know," he started, trying to recover from the difficult question, "That question is a bit outside of my experience. I will pass that on to Dr. Woodcraft and have him get back to you on that."

"Okay, thank you so much," Francesca replied.
After they hung up, Scott parked the car on a side street and took a deep breath, preparing to call his client Jeff and let him know the gut-wrenching truth. How was he going to tell this young man that the woman of his dreams was actually a man? He had never made this kind of call before, and he knew he would just have to give it to him straight. Dialing the number, he heard Jeff pick up and they exchanged greetings.
"Look, uh, Jeff, I have some findings in the case, and what I found out is kind of...hard to hear."

"She's cheating on me with that Dan guy, isn't she? I just knew something was wrong with that situation."
"My investigation didn't uncover any cheating, but I did find out that Francesca is actually a man."
There was a long period of silence as Jeff digested this astonishing news.
"That...That can't be. Are you positive?"

"Yes, there's no doubt."
There was another long silence, although he could hear Jeff sighing in the background.
"I never saw this coming. What should I do, Mr. Young?"
"You need to talk to Francesca and let her know that it was wrong of her to keep this from you. After that, you two will have to decide where you go with your relationship."

"You're right, that's the best way to go about this. Thank you for everything, Mr. Young."
"Of course. If you need my services again, contact me anytime."
Scott hung up and drove back to his office, where he filled Jessica in on the situation.
"This case definitely proved that you never know what might happen when you start investigating."
Scott filed the closed case and turned back to Jessica.

"I really appreciate your help on this case. I couldn't have done it without you."
He went over to her desk and gently took her hands.
"Why don't we celebrate by going out on the town? We'll go wherever you want on a date."
Scott knew Jessica missed him when he was away on cases, so he wanted to spend some quality time with her.

Jessica blinked in surprise as he explained the case but nodded. "I see, I hope the surgery goes well for her." She said simply and then smiled happily as he offered a date. "That would be great. I'd love to." She said and stood, kissing him lovingly.
