Is He A Lover or A Fighter {guitarfan2810 & WrittenFantasies}

Jake came back and took Adri her coffee and pastry. The whole thing was done without any words from Jake. It was clear he was upset. He took his stuff back to the coffee table and set it down before getting comfortable on the couch to eat his breakfast or brunch.

After seeing how nice Adri looked, he wondered if he should dress better to get her mother. Then he wondered when he really cared what others thought about how he looked. He wondered if it was for Adri but then realized it was because of Adri asking Andre to help him out he felt a bit self conscious about it. Would he ever be good enough.

He sat and went through emails and UFC rankings. He got a few words about endorsements, Powerade finally got back with him and said they'd love to work something out. Then also Adidas, Clif Bar and New Whey Protein shots. Clif Bar and New Whey was sending him products to try. He was happy for Clif cause he actually used their bars. Part of him wanted to share with Adri but the trip was about her.

There were way too many calories in the croissant but she took the coffee and sipped on it. "Thank you." She said softly but he seemed to be mute today. She sighed and didn't let it get to her. She would do damage control tonight and then she would focus on her mother. This was the only day she would be able to give her mother her full attention and she was going to use it as best she could.

Her mother loved the When Harry Met Sally movie so Adri was going to take her to Kat'z Deli so they could hopefully eat at the table it was filmed on. It was her little surprise for her mother. Then Friday she booked their massages at the hotel and an entire shopping trip devoted to her mother. The only thing she forgot to do was ask her mother to bring a spare suitcase for all of the stuff Adri bought, which meant she had to get a new suitcase. It wasn't that big of a deal.S he could get a cheap little thing from the store on Friday.

She grabbed her purse and walked out to the main room, "Are you going with me to pick her up or are you staying here?" She asked as she checked to make sure she had her key and phone. "What name did you reserve the room under? I want to get her checked in before she gets here."

"Yeah I was planning on going. Unless you don't want me to." He looked up at her. "It's in her name. But it's paid for under my card." If she didn't want him going along he would at least get her checked in.

Jake went down to the main desk and checked her in. He handed her keys to Adri. "She is all set."

He had no idea what her plans were or if he was part of anything else she had planned. He was starting to not really care what he did. The main thing now was her walking then he could go home. He couldn't help but wonder if he would have to just swallow everything that happened as his fault.

Andre tried calling Adri.

"Why wouldn't I want you to go?" She snapped and took a deep breath to reel it back in. He told her it was in her mother's name and his card, so she couldn't check her in. When he came back with the key, she took it and slid it into her bag. "Thank you."

She felt her phone going off and she thought it was her mother but it ended up being Andre'. She let it go to voicemail because she had nothing to say to Andre right now. She wanted to get her mother and get through the day.

"You know what, I'd rather not deal with your attitude so why don't you stay here and I will go get her and if you feel better when the taping comes around then you can join us, if you don't then whatever. I don't care." She left before he could say anything back and she went to the front desk.

She asked to have her mother's room cancelled so the money could be refunded to Jake and then she bought the room again with her own card. Her phone went off again and this time it was her mother, letting her know that she landed but she still had to get her bag. Adri got the new key to her mom's room and went to go pick her up. This was a happy moment and she wasn't going to let Jake's attitude ruin it.

"Where is Jake?" Maria asked.

"He wasn't feeling well, so he stayed back." Adri shook her head and turned to a happier topic, "So I have a damage control taping with Jimmy Fallon tonight and then we are going out on the town. So wear some comfortable shoes because we might have to run from the paparazzi." She smiled at her mom.

"What do you mean damage control?" Maria asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Jake posted something to social media that has taken on a life of it's own and I need to fix it because it makes me look like a really bad person who goes after any guy and doesn't care about feelings. So yeah. I have to do that. It shouldn't take long and then we can go and do whatever you want to do. Another plan has changed though. You and I are staying until Friday. I have a few surprises for you. I already told Daddy and he thinks it will be nice for us to have some girl time. So you can't say no." Adri smiled even wider and held her mother's hand as they got back to the hotel.

Adri gave her the key and took her to her suite which a floor below her and Jake's room. "Get ready for the taping and come up to our room when you are ready to go." They gave each other a kiss good bye and Adri went upstairs to get ready.S he stood outside of the door for a second and took a few deep breaths before opening the door and starting to get ready.

Jake didn't mean anything by the simple question about going to get her mother. He just didn't know if it was something she wanted to do on her own to have time with her mother. When she snapped at him then told him to stay he took every ounce of himself not flip out on her. He had enough. He took it from Andre the entire day before and then was blamed for everything when he had done nothing wrong. Now she was giving him a hard time too.

He knew if he said a single word about anything he'd be labeled an even bigger asshole. He thought about going and doing something nice for her before but now why even bother. Jake got her a snack and coffee trying to be a little bit nice and then she snaps at him over a simple question.

He may be starting something else with his next words but he was seeing red and since she left he couldn't sit still he was so worked up.

He walked to where she was. Jake started to say something but stopped. He wasn't going to be the guy to get in a huge fight with her before Fashion Week. Instead he turned to get ready.

She got ready quietly, she could feel the rift between them the second she walked in the door. She hoped, when they came to New York, that this would be a fun trip and that they would remember forever and it was quickly turning into an 'are we done yet' trip. She was ready to go. She was happy to walk but next time she would come alone and stay in her room unless she had to work. That would probably be the best thing for her.

She finished her make up and fixed her hair. She thought of doing a bun but she did that a lot lately. She could do a high pony tail but she didn't know if it looked alright with her dress. She was questioning everything she did and it didn't feel good. Nothing felt right anymore. If it didn't ruin her chances of another Fashion Week show she would quit and go home and that was nothing like her.

She was putting on her dress when the knock on the door came. She answered it and let her mother in. Her mom had a way of bringing out the smile even when Adri didn't want too. Maria zipped up the dress and told her she looked beautiful. Adri put on her shoes and switched bags. She also packed a different outfit so she wasn't stuck in her gown all night.

There was tension in the room and Maria could feel it. It was quiet and cold. She held her arms out for a hug from Jake, "Congratulations on your win. I knew you could do it. I just couldn't watch you do it. Your eyebrow looks much better." She examined his forehead in a very motherly fashion, "What kind of cream do they give you to get you to heal so fast and with so little scarring? Medicine will never cease to amaze me."

Jake got dressed in an outfit he picked up himself. He also couldn't help smiling when her mother entered. Her mother was given a hug and kind of smiled at her congratulating him. "I kind of figured you couldn't watch it. But thank you. And I'm just like a super hero and heal fast." He grinned at her.

"Thank you for watching Owen. It was nice knowing he was in such good hands. And you took such good care of him. I miss him and am ready to get home to him." He grabbed his key and money before looking at Adri. "I'm ready when you are."

As they walked down to the car, Jake looked at Adri. "Your mom is right. You look beautiful." He spoke quietly but was being honest. They may be fueding but she was still sexy and beautiful. He grabbed her hand. Jake figured it was a lot about appearances so he wanted it to seem they were happy and in love.

"I bet you are." She patted his cheek and took a step back. "Richard and boys watched. I watched them raise your arm and call you the winner. That's all I needed to see." She raised her hand and brushed off his thanks, "He's my grandson. That's my job." She smiled at Jake. "I'll take him any time."

Adri grabbed her bags and put on her sunglasses. She smiled at her mother and Jake happily talking. At least someone could get him to talk, she supposed. She made sure she had everything and then they walked down to the car. She smiled at Jake's compliment, "Thank you. You look pretty good too." She replied and was slit key surprised when he grabbed her hand. She held his back until they got into the car.

They got to the building and were let in through the back. They were taken to a green room where Adri could put her bags down. The make up team for the show came and made sure she was camera ready. She was doing a very quick interview and then they were out or they could stay and watch the whole show.

Maria wanted to watch the show in person so they found an open seat for her and Jake and Adri in the front. So they could all sit and enjoy the show

She was the first one on so once Jimmy finished his cold open she was introduced. They had their fun. He was pretty cool and didn't hit too hard with the questions. He was very nice, just wanted to get her relaxed to laugh. She talked about Calvin Klein and then she talked about the Mui Mui show and then she talked about her Jake.

She simply said, "I go to a fashion show and the next thing I know I'm no longer engaged to Jake and I have a new Beau. As far as I know I'm still engaged," She flashed her ring, "and I don't have any boyfriends on the side. It's just Jake and I...and Owen." She laughed a bit. "Can't forget that." After the interview they played a game and then she took her seat in the audience. Now everyone could shut up about her relationship.

Once the show was over, Adri went back to the green room and changed into her street clothes which was the outfit she wore to pick her mother up from the airport. Her thighs were going to be dropped off to the hotel by an assistant of the show. "Alright so next is a nice dinner at a little Deli that I think you will like." Adri gave her mothe a sly smile.

"I'm ready to go if you are." Maria told Adri and Adri lead her outside so they could go to Katz Deli.

He made small talk about Maria's trip and her taking care of Owen while they got Adri ready for her interview.

Jake sat with her mom and watched the show. He figured they should definitely get the interview with a magazine done now about their relationship if they wanted everyone to know how they were doing together with the engagement. It wasn't something Jake felt he should get into with Maria on what happened. She was Adri's mother so if she wanted her to know she'd have to tell her but being a mother, Maria knew something was off with them. He smiled a bit when she mentioned Owen and showed off her ring.

Once Adri joined them he grabbed her hand when she sat down and kissed her temple. "You did good." He said softly and looked in her eyes a moment. After the show Jake quickly met the other guests which was kind of cool. Jake walked out with them. "Did you two want alone time or mind if I tag along?"

She smiled at Jake's compliment, "Thank you." She said softly and then she watched the show. "It's a reservation for 3, so you kind of have to come." She said softly. "We are getting alone time on Friday." She smiled at her mother and got into the car.

The driver took them to the deli and stopped outside. He would be around to pick them up later. Adri asked him if he wanted anything and he shook his head politely. When they got in they just barely managed to snag the table from the movie and her mother was nothing but smiles. Adri took a picture of the sign above the table and posted it to Instagram with the caption, "We couldn't pass this up. #MomsFavoriteMovie"

Adri looked over the menu and rubbed her lips together. It wasn't a very diet friendly place. Looking over the menu she decided to stick with water and apple juice. She wasn't all that hungry and she had fruit to eat at the hotel.

Jake gave her a nod to joining them. He was kind of happy to spend time with her mother. He climbed in next to Adri and looked over the menu. He just ordered a burger and looked at Adri when she just ordered things to drink. It was something that slowly was coming together in his head. She wasn't eating much. He leaned close to her. "You need to eat. At least something. A salad..." He didn't want to get her mother worried and he figured it was just because she wanted to fit into her outfit for the show.

"Maria I never knew that Sleepless in Seattle was your favorite movie until this trip. Maybe when things die down and we all get home we can have a movie marathon at the house and watch everyone's favorite movies. Or I can set something up and we can watch some outside." Her mother was helping lighten the mood he felt and the interview seemed to help. He didn't seem as upset but it may also be because Andre wasn't trying anything at the time being.

A few people saw Jake and Adri and wanted pictures with them or autographs. Jake asked them if they could wait until after their meal as they were out with family. Amy sent them both a few more pictures of Owen and Jake showed Maria even though she saw him more than he had lately.

"I'm not hungry. I'll eat later." She said softly. "When Harry Met Sally." Adri corrected, "Wrong chick flick." She teased Jake and smiled at her mom. Her mother practically raised her on Meg Ryan and Molly Ringwald movies. Adri laughed a little bit, "Be careful what you offer." She said softly.

Maria nodded her head to the offer, "I would love to take you up on that offer. Just don't tell the boys what movie we are watching. if you do they won't come." She laughed and shook her head. "So what time is your show tomorrow and am I allowed to take pictures?" She asked Adri.

"I have to be there at 9 but the show doesn't start until 2. You guys have front row seats and no one can take them but you should get there around 1:30. And yes mom, you can take pictures. just don't scream my name. It's not a football or soccer game." She laughed.

Maria nodded her head, "Your father and I are very proud of you."

Adri smiled and squeezed her hand, "Thanks mom. I can't wait for it be over though." She joked and shook her head. "I'm ready to see my boy."

Jake got a little red with embarrassment. "Obviously I've never watched either one." He laughed a bit. "So if I did tell the guys it would be the wrong movie and they'd be none the wiser." He smiled a little. Growing up Jake didn't get to watch a lot of movies with his step father around and when he did it was more action movies.

"We are all proud of you babe." Jake meant that. He was proud that her career was taking off. She was good at what she did. She had an eye for fashion and was sexy and beautiful. She also loved what she did so that made it even better in his opinion.

When Adri said she missed her boy he knew she meant Max and not Owen. He didn't think she realized how comments like that came across to him. Maybe he was just was overthinking everything. "I miss both our boys." He said quietly. Jake didn't mean anything by it but just exactly what he said. He mostly didn't regret his decision of coming along with her. Their first day there when it was just the two of them was great. And they enjoyed joining a new club. "Maria we didn't tell you on the trip Adri and I got to join a new club." He grinned at Adri.

"Thank you both. It means a lot to me." She told them both and rubbed her lips together. She was happy that her parents were finally supporting her modeling career. They had a bumpy past and it was nice to finally have that approval form them both. Of course they were probably just happy she was signed on with an agency instead of doing backyard photo shoots for small time companies.

"How is Max doing?" They always talked about Owen but they never got around to asking about Max. It didn't matter if he was a dog, dogs had feelings too.

"He's fine. He sticks by Owen's side and he slept in the room by Owen's crib. It's very cute." Maria raised her eyebrows and smiled, "What club is that?" She asked looking at Jake and Adri.

Adri knew he wasn't stupid enough to tell her the truth, so she let him handle this one on his own. She smiled and sipped on her water, "Yeah, Jake. Go ahead and tell her." She set her cup down and leaned back in her chair with a smile on her face. As far as she knew, they weren't in Club 33 yet, so she didn't know what club he was talking about.

"We figured he'd be a pretty protective big brother." He smiled at Adri. "He probably has a lot of energy to get out. He hasn't been on his runs in a few weeks. We may have to work back up to it."

Jake chuckled a bit and looked at Adri. "The Louis Vuitton Couple club. We both now have Louis merchandise and I have Adri to blame for me liking so much of their stuff. I had no idea that I would like any of their things but I really did. She practically had to drag me out of there." He grabbed his wallet and showed it to her. "I got a wallet, shoes and sunglasses and have ideas for a few other things to eventually get." Jake looked over at Adri and gave her a small wink as her mother checked out her wallet.

Once their food arrived Jake dug into his burger and fries. He would pig out until he got home then get back to eating healthy. "Baby tomorrow after the show we should go get your gyro. I want to try one from here too." He hoped maybe then she would be willing to eat. Not eating could turn into a bad unsafe habit quickly. Jake also sent Amy a text and then a few moments later she sent Adri a few pictures of Max.

Jake looked at Maria. "What's Dad doing while you are gone?"

"He went with me on my morning walks and some times Richard would take him to the dog park. He is energetic but he's a very well mannered dog. He didn't tear anything up." Adri smiled, glad her boy did a good job at her parent's house.

Maria laughed at their 'club', "Very cute guys. Are they matching wallets?"

Adri shook her head, "No. Mine is all black with the gold LV as the front buckle. I'll show it to you when we get to the hotel, if you aren't too tired." Adri laughed, "You're eating now and already thinking of what we should eat next. Eat your burger."

Maria shrugged her shoulder, "He's probably sleeping on the couch and with ESPN on the TV, if I know my husband. That's probably all he is going to do until I get back." She shook her head.

Adri checked her phone when she felt it vibrate. She flipped through the pictures of Max and noticed the 2 missed calls from Andre'. She would have to talk to him eventually. She just didn't want to deal with it right now.

"I just wanted to make sure you got to have one since it's your favorite thing out here babe." He shrugged. Yeah Jake liked food but he normally ate fairly healthy and if he didn't he worked it off later in the gym.

Jake thought about what Adri's dad was doing. "Sounds like a good time to me. I'm doing that when I get home. With both of the boys. He's probably looking forward to a couple days of relaxing." He smiled at Maria.

The mood between Jake and Adri seemed better but he couldn't tell if it was more of a front in front of her mother or they were making up a bit. His hand slid onto Adri's leg as they sat there talking to her mother who wanted details of the engagement. She had only talked to Adri over the phone about it.

"It was a complete surprise. He took me to dinner with a view of the city and I thought it was going to be a simple night on the town until he got down on one knee and proposed. I never suspected a thing." She smiled at Jake and showed her mother her ring. She had a feeling she already saw it and knew what it looked like in person but she never saw it on her finger where it looked best.

Once they finished eating, Adri took the check and paid for dinner. Once that was paid for, they took pictures with everyone who wanted pictures with them and then they went back to the car. "Alright, next stop is the 9/11 memorial and museum. I haven't been there but I know you both wanted to go so we should go as a family."

She rubbed her temple because she felt a headache coming on but she tried her best to ignore it. She wanted to have fun with her family, it was probably the only time she would have fun on this trip.

When they got to the museum, they were able to slip to the front of the building without being detected. "Where do you want to go first mom?" She asked and her mom walked towards one of the steel beams from the building.

Jake smiled back at her. He would never forget that night. It was one of the best nights of his life. It was nice seeing Adri so happy. He had wanted to take her on a helicopter ride over Vegas and then propose. That was the original plan but then when they got the chance to be in London, he just changed the plan around a bit and seemed it fit well. "I told her if she didn't like the ring I could take it back and get something else. She wouldn't let me take it back."

He sensed she was getting a headache and it could be her lack of food intake. He didn't have any Tylenol with him so he'd have to wait till they got back to the hotel.

Once they got into the museum he stopped a minute and just looked around. This was one of the saddest things he had been to. Some of the artifacts were neat, but then sad at the same time. He saw the remains of a fire truck that brought fire fighters to the scene that day and then when the towers fell they were killed. He just sat there looking at the truck for a few moments. Then when he got to the wall of the photographs of the victims he just stood there looking at them a bit. He couldn't imagine how these people felt. Those who were trapped or families of those who lost their lives. He knew how he felt not having a direct connection, that was bad enough.

It was a sobering experience to see all of the lost family members on the wall. She hugged her mom a bit tighter when she saw that. It was hard to imagine what all of those people felt in that moment and the moments after. Walking through the museum, she went through a range of emotions. It was hard to believe that this could happen.

When they walked all through the museum and paid their respects they went outside to the actual memorial site. There were two big squares where the buildings stood and they were made into fountains. The outside ring had all of the names of the victims around it. It was surprisingly peaceful for such a loud city.

After walking around the fountains and reading some of the names, and listening to some people tell their stories of where they were when they heard the news, Adri figured it was a good time to go and do something a little more fun and upbeat. "Where do you want to go next mom?"

Looking at everything at the museum made Jake realize a few things. While they walked outside he held Adri's hand. Before Adri decided to go he kissed her temple and let his lips linger a moment. He had no idea what he'd do if something like that happened while she was there and he was in Vegas.

Maria thought it over. "I would like to see Rockefeller Center. Even though it's not Christmas. You do have to bring me out here so I can see the tree at Christmas. Also Radio City Music Hall. Either one of those."

Jake looked at Adri and left it up to her on where to go next. Once they got in the car he wrapped his arm around Adri. He felt like he needed to after being at the 9/11 museum. He kissed her head again and whispered in her ear he loved her. Something with the place hit Jake.

"Of course we can come back for christmas mom. Anything for you." She smiled at her mother and gave her a hug. "Maybe everybody come down like a week or two before christmas and spend a few days out here. Might be nice."

They walked to the car and she had the driver take them to Rockefeller Center. She told Jake she loved him back and looked out the window. She loved passing by the building and all of the people on the street. "Do you want to go ice skating mom?" Adri teased as they walked into the building. She noticed that Jake was more touchy after the memorial. She didn't mind now that his attitude was gone. She didn't know if it was just because they were out in public and in front of her mother though.

"Why don't we go to the top?" Adri asked and pointed at the elevator. Her mom agreed and they boarded the elevator and went to the top to get a better view of the beautiful city.

"A nice little family vacation would be nice for the holidays." Jake agreed to that. He kind of wanted to take everyone to Colorado close to then as well. If not this Christmas but a different year.

Jake liked watching her mom get so excited about everything. It was rather cute. He was up for anything her mother wanted to do. As they went up to the top of the building Jake looked at Adri. "Did I ever tell you I'm an amazing ice skater? I know we don't go in Vegas but back home I would skate every winter. We'd play hockey on ponds that froze over."

Once they got to the top Jake took a few pictures. He kept from posting anything on social media. It would be awhile before he posted anything online. Part of him still thought about just deleting instagram. He took a few of Adri and her mom and sent them to both of them.

"No you didn't. I'm not surprised you played hockey though. You have a thing for high contact sports." She laughed. "Skating over a pond sounds really dangerous. I'm sure the ice was super thick but I would get freaked out skating over a pond." She shrugged her shoulder, "I'm not that good of an ice skater but I can rollerblade pretty well."

Adri took some selfies with her mom and posted them to snap chat. She took a few videos and posted them to snapchat. She would go through the pictures of her and her mother later and figure out which one she wanted to put on Instagram.

When they were done taking pictures they walked around the top and looked around for a bit. Her mother was full of energy, so they walked around a little bit more before heading back to the hotel. She came up to the room so Adri could show her the purses she bought and the wallet. She told her mom that they would do a little shopping on Friday but that was all she told her about the plans for Friday.

When Adri yawned, her other decided to go back to her room and check on her husband. She kissed Adri and told her good luck since there was a chance that wouldn't see each other until after the show. She kissed Jake's cheeks and wished him a goodnight before leaving.

Adri took her clothes off and took a shower. She took some pain meds to make her headache go away and she laid on the bed and looked through her instagram feed.

He shrugged at her comment about high contact sports. "I can't help I'm good at them. I could take you skating sometime. It's not too bad. You learn what is safe and what isn't." He gave a shrug because that was how he grew up so it wasn't hard to learn.

Jake gave her mother a hug and told her he had a good time hanging out with her that evening. He gave her cheek a kiss and offered to walk her to her room. He also told her what time he'd be by her room to get her to head to the show.

While Adri showered Jake checked his emails and followed up on a few of them before getting undressed and putting a pair of shorts on to sleep in. He watched some tv before climbing into bed next to Adri. They finally seemed to be doing okay so he was going to try to keep the peace. "Can I do anything in the morning to help for the show? I can run and get Starbucks or something." His hand ran over her side as he gave her shoulder a kiss.
