Where's My Happy Ending? ((butterfly0408/Kolath))

Crista was just as stunned as the nobles by Aiden and how he commanded the moment. After he showed his authority, Crista actually forgot for a moment to keep moving and had to move quickly a moment to keep up with him as she followed him along.

Sighing as they stopped in along the stairs, needing to catch her breath, but her mind was still set upon this. "I'm sure Aiden. I haven't seen him behind bars. I know he is, I do, but still need to see it for these nightmares to go away. I keep.... wondering if he will walk through the door any second in my head. I need to see for myself that he can't."

Aiden looked into Cristaâ??s eyes nodding slowly as she spoke about Heylel and needing to see him behind bars. â??Crista, I would prefer to keep the bastard locked up for all eternity, never to see the light of day again. However if you need me to so that you know he will never hurt anyone ever again, I will put him to death for the crimes he has commited.â? His hand brushed her cheek looking into her eyes, â??against my wife.â?

Crista was stunned once again but Aide and his new authority. She shook her head, "Don't ask me to make a choice like that Aiden. He is a horrible man, but he is still a living being. Don't ask me to place his life within my hands. I don't even want to make that kind of choice." It was Crista that took the lead then for just a moment as she pressed onward down the stairs until Aiden retook his place leading her once more.

Taking her deep into the dungeons to the deepest parts of the dark, dismal place. There was where she saw him once again, her hand clutching Aiden's at first sight of him as they drew closer.

It was a shadow of the man she knew him as. Bound in chains with a small cell, he looked broken and beaten. Did she look like this when she was in his prison, she wondered for a moment. Drawing closer still, she saw more of his condition. He was filthy, and covered in marks of dried blood. Even though he was behind bars though, Crista still held on to Aiden like he would rise up and harm her at any second as she waited for him to notice he had visitors.

Heylel had heard them coming and knew from the footsteps that it at least one of them was a woman. His hair had grown enough to fall over his eyes but he was still able to see through it and know which of his girls it was. â??Well well, if it isnâ??t the whore that would be queen.â? He slowly raised his head smirking evily at her, then turning to Aiden. â??How now brother, no hug for your dear half brother?â? he laughed at the sneer on Aidenâ??s face.

He slowly pulled himself up from where he had been sitting. â??Have you finally come to your senses bitch and come to join me here, as is your place?â?

Aiden snapped at that, stepping a little in front of Crista. â??You will speak respectfully to your queen, or I will come in there and teach you respect.â?

Heylel laughed, â??Come on then brother, show your lady love how alike we are. Show her how you would beat a man that can not fight back. It is no different then how I treated them only you are the king so it it right for you.â? Heylel was as always trying to put a wedge between them.

Crista thought that seeing him behind bars, that no matter what he said she would not let it affect her. She thought that, but it didn't happen. Something about him. Even locked up where he could not hurt her, he could still somehow do it. Crista only lightly put her hand upon his arm, holding him back from lashing out upon Heylel.

And then, she did the bravest thing she had done in a long, long while, "All talk Heylel... but in no position to really be doing so. Don't you see? Or are you just too blind? You can't hurt me. Not anymore. You will live the rest of your life knowing that you will never be able to hurt another woman again. And how hitting that you will live that fowl time in the same fashion you forced upon so many innocent souls..."

Heylel laughed more coming close to the bars the chains around his arms stopping him just short of reaching them. â??Really? Even now I hold you captive in your mind and you know it. thatâ??s why you are here, you think seeing me will make things better but it wonâ??t.â? he laughed almost doubling over in stitches, â??Every time you make love to this play king, you will be using knowledge I showed you. You canâ??t give him pleasure without me. I will join you in your bedchamber every night for eternity because I taught you everything you know.â? He smirked, â??And that makes this,â? he shrugged, â??punishment bearable.â?

Crista's short moment of confidence went fleeing out the window. How could he know that. It was as if... as if he really WAS in her head. Was he? Could he hear what she was thinking right now, at this very moment? Could he enter it anytime he wanted. She'd never be free of him... not now. Not ever. Seeing him suddenly did nothing. He was right and the look of defeat on Crista's face said it all. Even locked up behind bars, deep in the dungeon.... she'd never be rid of him. She was frozen where she stood, silent, unable to respond for how could she? She could never deny it, at least not convincingly.

Heylel smirked knowing that he had won there was nothing that could break his hold over Crista. â??You are mine and always will be the same goes for all the other girls.â?

Aiden had seen Crista losing it and at this moment stepped inbetween their line of sight blocking them from each other. He faced Heylel, â??Your wrong Heylel, you tought her nothing. The most important thing to truly break a woman, what is it?â?

Heylelâ??s face darkened, but he said nothing.

â??Come father tried to teach me this but I wasnâ??t a good student having too much of my mother in me. Surely he turned to you. The most important thing to breaking a woman,â? Aiden paused and when again there was no answer he continued, â??Be her first time. Take her virginity and then show her how no man can ever care for her.â?

Aiden smiled as Heylelâ??s face darkened more into rage. â??You donâ??t have that, deep down in the core of my Crista is the truth, she willingly gave me her virginity out of love. I took and cherish it to this day and always will. She knows my love is deeper then any hate or fear you put into her even if she doesnâ??t realize it now.â? Aiden turned to face Crista looking down into her eyes, â??Above all she knows that in her weakest moments I was there and loved her through it all. Through giving her virginity to me, through your torture, and through this final struggle to claim her when you know you are losing.â? His hand brushed over her cheek. â??I here for her through it all, and I always will be.â?

Thank goodness for Aiden stepping between them, breaking the contact between them. She was starting to feel as if she was being pulled towards Heylel with his just his eyes. He was commanding her to submit and if not for Aiden stepping in the way, she very well might have. At once, the results were turning good. The connection was broken and Crista just listened.

It was a little horrifying to picture Aiden, a young man, having to sit through his father trying to teach him the way to control a woman, something Heylel had mastered. She could never picture Aiden doing it, not now and she had been foolish in those few moments when she left Heylel convince her Aiden could ever be like that. At first, it was hard for her to hear him speak about her and her virginity like that. At first like the way his father would have spoken about it. Like it didn't matter and was unimportant. That hurt didn't last though.

Her face was down at first when he turned to her, but rose to meet his eyes the moment he looked to her. As he spoke, she found herself nodding her head. She was agreeing with him because everything he said was true. She did know. Deep down she really DID. He never left her even in the times when she thought they were lost to one another forever, his love was still there. Nothing that Heylel could say now would change it for she had heard Aiden say it with his own lips.

"Oh.... Aiden....." she whispered, as the smallest hint of a smile crossed her face, nuzzling her cheek against his hand before hers raised to touch his face in return. Her eyes said it all. They shimmered with the love she felt for him. All signs of the sadness and fear Heylel had forced into her eyes were gone. "Thank you. Oh darling thank you for much."

Aiden wrapped his arms around her and smiled leaning down and kissing her forehead softly. â??Come my love its time we left him to his fate.â? He gently turned Crista around and started to lead her out of the dungeon.

Heylel was seething knowing that he had lost his one hope by just a hairâ??s breadth. He had one last trump card to play knowing the relationship between Crista and Marie. â??It was a mistake that I grabbed Marie. IT WAS MEANT TO BE YOUR CORPSE AIDEN FOUND!!!â?

Aiden stopped half way up to the first door his arm around Cristaâ??s waist tightened as Heylel tried one last time to break her. He was there to support her and keep her going since she knew she could rely on him.

He did not break her, for he could not now, knowing that Aiden was always with her. But, he could still hurt her and he had done just that.

Memories of that day came to her as she recalled the events leading to Marie's death. The vicious beating she received from him. No mercy. None at all. In fact, it was only more intense then any beaten she had ever seen him give before. And she didn't know why. Now she did. She was the one that should have received it. Not Marie. She died for nothing and Crista lived still when it should be Marie.

This sudden confession from him left her feeling sick. She didn't know... HOW she felt. Sadness, guilty, dizzy, blank, all kinds of crazy emotions blended into one massive shock wave that left her knees feeling weak. She didn't turn to face him, only her grip upon Aiden's hand that held her tightened as she held him for support. She tried to speak, but as he lips parted, nothing came out.

Aiden was getting angry again. He hurried her out of the room slamming the door behind them on the man that had been trying to destroy his bride. The jailer looked at him and Aiden nodded, â??You can stop bringing him food, the man has destroyed his only chance for life. he admitted to making a attempt on the future queens life, he will hang in two days as soon as I get this evidence to a judge.â?

The jailer nodded and went to make sure all the locks were secure as they had been but it was his job to be sure they were.

Aiden hurried Crista out of the dungeon that was still rather nice in comparison to where she had been kept. He stopped as they entered the main castle turning her into him he held her close leaning down kissing her hair. â??Are you ok Crista?â?

Crista started nodding her head as if to say she was indeed alright, but her knees suddenly giving out from under her had him having to make a swift reaction to stop her from just crashing to the ground. All he could do was help her ease her way until she sat upon the ground with him by her side. She stared blankly into space. It had been a shock for her to say the least. "If... if I hadn't been sitting on the far side of the room...... if Marie hadn't been so close to the doorway...."

Aiden held her slowly helping her lower to the ground his arms wrapping around her and holding her as the shock rolled over her. â??Shhhhâ?¦there is nothing you could have done Crista. â?? he kissed and stroked her hair lightly nuzzling in close against her. â??You canâ??t change the past, its not your fault Crista my love.â?

She heard him speaking, but the words just seemed like jumbled sounds as she kept thinking about Marie and her death. "It should have been me. I should be dead right now......" True, she knew it was not her fault, but that didn't change the fact, "It should have been me..." she was not crying, just still in total and utter shock over this news.

Aiden sighed and gently bent down more slipping his hands under her knees and the other around her back. â??Hold on lover.â? He gently picked her up making sure she would not fall all she had to do was wrap her hands around his neck. He carried her through the halls toward his room kicking the door open and setting her down on the love seat so she was laying down on it. â??Crista, what would I do if it had been you? I could not be able to go on. I morn over Marieâ??s death and kick myself for not showing up just a few moments earlier so that I could have saved all of you.â? His hand brushed over her cheek, â??but I saved you and for that I am eternally thankful.â?

Crista did wrap her arms around his neck. In fact, she also rested her head upon his shoulder as well. But still, she was blank. Even as she lay on his love seat, looking up at the ceiling a moment before closing her eyes and taking a deep breath to try and calm her mind down. "I'll... I'll be fine Aiden. It's just a bit of a shock. To know you were so very close to death... I just need a moment or... or something. I don't know."

Just then, a lightly knock came at the door. As it opened, Aiden's mother peeked her head around the opening, looking inside. "Is everything alright?" She was connected to many of the goings on in within the castle. So when she heard that Aiden was seen caring what appeared to be an upset Crista, how could she not come check on her son and soon to be daughter.

Aiden smiled and took Cristaâ??s hand kissing it lightly as he sat by the love seat looking at her. he understood, because she had told him about Marie and how close they had become. His hand brushed over her arm softly. His head turned as his mother came in and he smiled. â??I think everything will be okay, can you have some water and food sent up. Crista has had a horrible shock and I think it drained her.â? Aiden was trying even if he wasnâ??t sure about what he was saying just felt that it might help.

This mother smiled warmly as she nodded, "Oh course. It will be along shortly."

Departing them, Crista looked towards the door, smiling, "You're lucky. You're mother is such a wonderful woman. So attentive and aware of everything around her. It's like she knows where she is always needed the most."

He smiled nodding and gently lifting Cristaâ??s head he sat down on the love seat resting her head in his lap finally. â??She is more then that, if you want to know how a queen can best serve her husband you should speak to my mother.â? He shook his head slowly. â??She single handedly revealed half a dozen plots against my father just by having her network.â? He stroked her hair softly looking down into Cristaâ??s eyes. â??She, is the only other woman that is fit to be queen in this world.â? He smiled looking at her, â??After you of course.â?

Crista had a doubtful look on her face. How could she ever top all his mother was able to do. It was no secret that she had been an amazing queen. A far better queen then her husband had been king for certain. "I don't have any network. I barely have any friends." It felt so natural and relaxing to be here with him, laying with her head in his lap, gazing up at him. She could get use to this. Very, very use to THIS. Maybe not the rest of it, but this she definitely could.

He smiled stroking her hair softly looking down into her eyes. â??Mmmm I know love but you will,â? he leaned down kissing her lips softly. â??And if you have a chat with my mom about how to set things up you can start laying the grounds work of a network early.â? He smiled just sitting there with her. it felt so good just to finally have her there, after so long of not being able to be with her. â??Mmmm I love you so much Crista.â?

She smiled up at him in reply, feeling very much the same way though before the words could leave her lips, a knock came at the door and a line of servents entered delivering a fine lunch for the two of them, placing it upon the table before departing with a bow. Crista groaned a little, not quite feeling up to sitting up at the table, but started to move to do so.

They ate together enjoying the time they could spend together. He sat close to her snuggling with her and enjoying just being close to her. they finished their meal and a few more hours past as they just sat there and talked. He held her close after talking was done now they just sat together holding each other.

Crista never felt so comfortable as she did around him. They felt just like a man and a woman for the time being. But as the meal grew to an end, she remembered once more that they were anything but a simple couple. He was a king, she was his betrothed, and it was in bad taste to be spending such intimate moments together before marriage. Of course... they had already shared much more but that only meant they have to be more careful now in the final stretch before marriage.

Rising up from the seat, Crista sighed and reached for her travel cloak, "Will you walk me down to my horse?" she asked him, intent on returning home. Maybe they would see one another again before the wedding. Maybe not. He no doubt had a lot of cleaning up still to do after the chaos at the dinner last night. She didn't want to be in the way.
