Where's My Happy Ending? ((butterfly0408/Kolath))

Aiden couldnâ??t help but smirk as he watched her almost literally dig into the food. He shook his head slowly, â??You think I would have one of those refined girls that knows how to work around my back so much that it is more likely that she will betray me then someone else? No I prefer the honesty I see just flowing off of you to the refined to a dagger point politeness that they other girls have.â? He leaned over whispering in her ear and kissing her neck lightly. â??Besides they would complain about the chefâ??s cooking and demand that I behead him.â?

With the fork just barely leaving her mouth, and speaking with her mouth full... "They would REALLY do that?! A man's head for a little food?!" What kinds of girls had he been dining with? She beasts it sounded like. "Well, if the rest of your chef's food is even a third as good as this is, you will never hear so much as a peep of disapproval out of me." She went back to chewing her food again.

Meanwhile, the door was slightly cracked open and a few pairs of eyes were peeking in at them. "She's an odd one, isn't she?" one of the servants whispered to the others.

"Not at all like any of the other girls we have served in the company of the prince."

"But look... he's smiling. He's laughing. Do you know how long it's been since I saw the prince do either one of those?"

Afraid of being spotted, the three of them scurried back to the kitchens to get the next course for the prince and his odd lady. Whispers about her already starting.

Aiden smiled eating a little also, getting his fill of her enjoyment of the food before her. he found it so refreshing to have someone that was just happy to enjoy things instead of complaining about them. â??No it has nothing to do with the food or how it tastes they are trying to establish that they are really in charge even if they say I am.â? He leaned over and gently kissed her neck. â??They just worry about intrigue and controlling everything around them rather than who they were with.â?

"Just like Juliet..." she said, the mood sinking a little into sadness for a second with the mention of the baroness though had been her jailer for so long. But she smile then, looking right into his eyes, "but that's her. And I'm me, right? and I care about the wonderful person I am with more then the rest."

He smiled brushing his hand against her cheek as she smiled. â??Yes you are your own person.â? He leaned in kissing her lips softly at first letting the kiss deepen a little bit. â??And I care about the beautiful and special person that I am spending my time with as well.â? He kissed her again deeper smiling into the kiss not stopping till there was the sound of a dish falling to the floor. He looked and one of the younger female servants had just walked in on them kissing and she was blushing both from the passion of what she had seen and from dropping the platter of food.

In that moment, it was Crista who was FAR more embarrassed that the young girl was. There was a long moment of silence between them all as Crista froze, her own face flooding full of color. She wanted to run and hide, but had no place to go. As for the serving girl, she wanted to do the same, but knew she had to stand there and wait to be yelled at. But... it never came. "Umm..." Crista was the first to speak as she moved to stand up, "Would you like help with that?"

The serving girl did a double take, and then looked, stunned, towards the prince. Had the prince's lady just asked to help HER clean up a mess SHE made? Crista was already moving towards her when the servant snapped out of it. "Oh! No! Forgive me, my lady! No! No don't get up! It's my fault I... I... Sit! Sit please! I didn't mean to... intrude!" The girl got down and swiftly started to clean up the mess.

Crista was left standing, halfway between the table and the servant... not sure if she should help or if she should return to her seat. Glancing back to Aiden, almost asking what she should do with her eyes.

Aiden covered his mouth as the platter dropped trying to not blush and smirk. He knew that the poor serving girl was not at fault but Cristaâ??s actions were making the girl more flustered then even yelling at her would. He looked at Crista as she looked to him for help on knowing what to do. He took a moment clearly thinking over what he should say it was not a easy matter to decide on. finally he stood kissing her shoulder. â??You are a noble woman and so there is a place and time to let servants help or take care of things for you, but you are also a independent and strong young woman capable of doing things yourself. You are not a servant and you will soon be a queen do what feels right to you no matter what it may look like to others. I love you for who you are not who I want you to be or who you think you should be, so just be who you are.â?

Crista stood, watching the servant swiftly clean things up, the whole while listening to Aiden. He was right. She had to be her and do what she knew was right and best. Without looking to him, she walked across the room, and knelt before the servant, reaching her hand out and stilling her hand with it. The servant was frozen. Crista just smiled at her, "You have to be careful. If you're not, you'll cut your hands on the broken pieces. And I'll tell you..." Crista showed the girl her hands, the scars she bore on them. Marks of a working woman. Not soft, fragile hands of a proper lady. Ones, just like her own. "Porcelain scars are not pretty ones and they never truly fade away. I won't help if that makes you feel better, but in return I ask you to please just calm yourself and take your time to clean up. I don't want to see a girl as young as you scared up like this."

Aiden stood there watching Crista with the servant and knew even more sure that she was the one that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. The kindness and caring that she was showing for the poor girl was just overwhelming. He sat back down watching the two slightly shaking his head slowly. As the girl calmed down and cleaned up the shards of platter and then quickly turned and left giving Crista a slight smile and a nod before leaving. â??You are truly a wonder my dear, in every way you are just the queen that I have been looking for its like you were made to order just for me.â?

Still kneeling upon the floor, she turned her head to smile in his direction, a blush on her cheeks, "Stop saying things like that." Standing, she made her way back to her seat once again, "It's nothing extraordinary. Any decent person would have helped..."

Meanwhile, the servant girl was relaying the story in the kitchens of what had just happened. Soon, everyone was atwitter, talking about the prince's strange lady who dressed like a handmaiden, had the hands of a worker, and acted kindly towards the servants. As if she were one of them.

Aiden smiled and moved closer to her slipping a arm around her kissing her temple softly before the next course was brought in. the rest of the meal was pretty normal and highly enjoyable for them both as they sat and talked for hours. Finally desert was finished and Aiden stood, â??Allow me to show you the library now my love.â? He held out his hand waiting for her to lead her into the library.

In the time that the servants had been talking about Crista the king had caught word of her. something didnâ??t settle right to him about this caring and seemingly common woman that his son was seeing. So he headed to the library to see her for himself.

"Oh yes please! I'm simply dying to see it, though...." she playfully exaggerated getting up out of her seat, "I ate so much I dare say I don't know how I am gonna be able to walk on such a full stomach. I don't think I have eaten that much in my whole life!"

As he escorted her into the main section of the library, her eyes went wide with wonder, seeing all the books the room held. Hundreds of thousands she had to guess! "Aiden! You must have... every book ever printed here! I don't think I'll ever be able to read all their titles let alone all their pages!" Filled with a childlike wonder, she scurried to the nearest shelf and took the first book, flipping through it, "Greek mythology!" She looked at the titles on the bindings as her fingers ran over their, "Plato! Philosophy!" she scurried across the way and started to look over those books as well, "Oh and novels too! Oh Aiden this is so wonderful!" She threw her arms around his neck, hugging him. But then...

"WHAT.... did you just call him?" came a powerful voice. Looking across the room, Aiden and Crista found the king, watching them from just inside the doorway. Not looking happy at all. "You dare to call the crown prince by his given name! A servant! Aiden what is the meaning of this? WHERE is Danella Blakesfield?! She was to be your lady tonight. That thing is certainly not her is it?" The king pointed at Crista like she some insignificance object. And at that moment, she she coward behind Aiden, she felt like it.

As Aiden heard his fatherâ??s voice and couldnâ??t stop himself from growling. Moving so that Crista was behind him so he stood between his father and her. As his father went ballistic about Crista and how she appeared. â??She has every right to call me as she wishes father, because she is my betrothed. Also she is not a servant, may I present Crista Blakesfield the only daughter of the late Count Blakesfield and the only heir to the title.â? Aidenâ??s voice was rough and to the point clearly not happy about his father breaking in and scaring Crista like that. â??I know what you are going to say father but your only requirement for my bride was that she be of noble birth and Crista is so I will hear no more arguments.â?

The king didn't seem to hear him. Or at least didn't care to hear him. He just kept looking at Crista, distaste upon his face for the girl in her simple clothing with her unpolished look. "This will not do! SHE will not do! Look at her Aiden! Dear God have you done this JUST to spite me even more? She is entirely unsuitable. When I told you the girl had to be noble born the bottom of the noble blood barrel! You need to marry a REAL noblewoman! A woman like the daughters of Lord Gruidshire or Count Hessel! Not some low class noble like the late Baron Blakesfield! That man was lucky to be considered a nobleman!"

Now Crista was getting upset as well as frightened. Her father was the lowest level of the nobility, yes, but he was a good man. It was hard to stand there and listen to the king talk of her father like that. She wanted to find comfort in Aiden, but was afraid to even touch him to risk enraging the king anymore. "Perhaps I should go Aiden..." she whispered to him from behind, her voice shaky and seemingly crushed.

Aidenâ??s voice lowered to a threatening level as he looked at his father. â??This is none of your business old man. You had better just be glad that I am abiding by your rules. And as for Count Blakesfield, he was more noble then most men I have ever met in my life including you. Now leave me and my future bride to ourselves you no longer have any say in the matter.â?

Aiden turned his back on his father and gently brushing his hand against Cristaâ??s cheek he smiled, â??No love your place is here at my side now and forever no one not even my father can change that now.â?

Crista was nipping at her lip, nervous as Aiden tried to assure her. Her eyes glanced over his shoulder to meet the eyes of the king. It was for just a second, but in that second she saw such rage. Beyond anything she had even seen in Juliet's eyes. And then he was gone out the way he came, stomping and slamming the door on his way out.

"I don't want my children anywhere near that horrible man Aiden!" she whispered to him, shaking still, her hands clutching the book she still had tightly. She didn't know if she would be able to let go even if she tried. "He's never going to let us get married..."

Aiden shakes his head slowly both his hands coming up to rest on Cristaâ??s cheeks. â??Shhâ?¦â? he kisses her, â??They wonâ??t be you have my word I will never let him be near our children.â? As she worried about the king not letting them get married Aiden chuckled lightly â??Oh yes he will, he doesnâ??t have a choice but the terms of our agreement when we started this nightly ritual.â? His thumb brushed against her cheek looking into her eyes. â??All I have to do is find a girl of noble rank, which you are my love.â? He kissed her again softly.

Her eyes strayed to the door once more. Afraid he would burst back in at any moment of send the guard to rip them apart. Something didn't feel right about him. That last look from his eyes, "I wanna go back to my room. Can you take me to my room Aiden. The door locks right?"

Aiden understood and slipping his arm around her waist he started to lead her toward the door. â??Of course Crista and yes it does lock and I donâ??t blame you.â? He led her through the many passages that seemed to all look alike not one seeming different then the other but he never lost his way bringing her to the door to her chambers. â??Here we are Crista mine are just one door down if you need anything.â? He was used to escorting the ladies to their room and then disappearing into his room as fast as he could; but now he stood there looking into her eyes smiling with concern clearly showing in his eyes, â??Are you going to be alright?â?

She shook her head a little bit, "I don't know Aiden. I honestly don't know if I am going to be alright tonight." She glanced into the room, to the bed, all soft and fluffy, "I have not slept in a bed in a long time. And... I have not seen someone that mad at me in a long time as well. I don't know if I could sleep at all..." She wished she could. A real bed? Oh her back felt better just thinking about it laying in it, though she was so use to sleeping on the floor, could she ever sleep in a bed again?

He gently brushed his hand across her cheek nodding understanding totally. â??I understand my love.â? He wasnâ??t sure what could be done about it seeing as all the servants were under his fatherâ??s command and there were only a few, like Christian that he felt he could trust. â??Would you like me to stay for a few moments till you can calm down some more?â?

She nodded, already looking a bit calmer with a hint of a smile on her face, "Yes, please Aiden. You don't have to stay too long," she motioned for him to come inside, "Just a little be. Talk with me. Put my mind someplace else." She took a seat at the small table in her room, waiting for him to come sit with her as well.

He smiled and took out a decanter of spiced wine nothing too strong just a nice light talking wine something for them to enjoy but not enough to dull the senses at all. He sat opposite her and they began to talk about everything, from politics to flowers, covering so much that by the time that they were slowing down from their talk it was already late into the night. â??Oh dearâ?¦Iâ??m sorry Crista I have stayed too long I should be going.â? He stood and went to her door taking one last moment to look at her, â??you will make a perfect queen my love.â? And slipped out heading back to his room.

A short time later, there was a knock at his door. The handle turned and creaked open. Crista's head popped around the door. A second later, the rest of her shuffled inside as she turned to lock his door. She no longer wore the dress she had worn all night long, but had changed into a pretty night dress of some kind. It could not be seen since she had her robe tied tight around her. "I shouldn't be in here Aiden but.... I don't want to be alone tonight. I just need to be in the same room as you. I'll never sleep in there on my own. Can I sleep on your love seat?"

Aiden had sat in a chair by his fire for a short while thinking over what he was going to do about his father. Finally deciding that he could not figure it out tonight he stood and slipped his tunic off, just as she knocked and came in side. he stood there in just his pants as she asked if she could sleep on his love seat. He was blushing badly but was glad of the darkness so she couldnâ??t see the blush at least, grabbing his own robe he slipped it on before looking over at her again. His jaw grew slack as he looked at her standing there in the moonlight the robe shimmering slightly. â??Uhmâ?¦.yeahâ?¦no wait Crista you can have my bed I will sleep on the love seat. Itâ??s the best way since you are the guest in my castle you should sleep in a proper bed.â?
