School Rumble (Broom and I)

"You've never been that way for me," Adam said, feeling a little sheepish to just gulp down the bowl, so he simply sipped from the lip of it. He wasn't trying to comfort her with lies. He never really saw her bad side...yes, she could be very frigid but that didn't bother him.

"...And I like you how you are, difficult." he grinned. "It's...you know, it's cute" He hoped his courage held up for the rest of his date...

When Adam called her cute, she suddenly dropped her spoon into her soup. A large CLANK could be heard, and people were suddenly looking over to them wondering what had happened. She felt like she was going to die. Her heart was racing a mile a minute, and yet...well she didn't dislike it. But it was a stretched to say she did. "Oh, really?" ...And she wasn't speaking Japanese anymore.

Adam winced visibly, glancing over to her a moment. Oh...shit, did...was that not something he should I have said. "W...Well, yeah...I mean..." Adam mumbled. "...It's...it means that you don't just let everyone know you because they can, people...people think you're heartless, but I think you're just smarter about who you associate with." Well, so much for his courage...

Oh..so he didn't mean she was cute...appearance wise. Rather than how she communicated with others? That was..interesting Though she was somewhat disappointed in herself for jumping to conclusions and dropping her spoon like an idiot. "...I see. That makes sense. You're right, that is generally how I prefer to operate..." She gave him a side glance and she saw that he looked...troubled. She blew it, yep. Totally, he totally was scared of her again just like everyone else.

"I thought so," Adam said, taking a minor breath. Whew...he dodged a bullet there, didn't he? He should be a little bit more careful. "...I um, I wouldn't mind taking you here when you'd like to go...like...have lunch together, or something?"

Was he still asking her out to do stuff with him? Why? He...he was obviously super nervous and scared. Why did he want to be around her still? "I don't understand." She started as she slowly pulled her eyes away from her food and towards Adam. "I may not know how people work sometimes, but I can tell when they're nervous. I make you nervous and scared. So why do you want to go out and eat with someone like me again?" She could feel her cheeks burning...she hated this. She hated feeling ashamed of herself and it was agitating her. "You don't have to spend time with me because you feel bad for me, you know. You can just tell me the truth." Her voice was low, but it was obvious she was upset as she stared right into his eyes. She liked him, but she just felt like something was off. She didn't now what it was exactly but...

"...I just...don't wanna mess this up," Adam admitted. Mei was being so...open and honest, it was almost overwhelming. "...People call you the Ice Queen because they never see anything from you, but I know that isn't true...you being here with me now proves that." Here it went...the most embarrassing things that he was going to share. "I...I mean, you're...you're beautiful, you know?" he said. "You're...you're amazing, too. A lot of girls look up to you, they're just afraid to share that. Everyone thinks you're scary...but nobody...I mean, maybe some do...but I know not everyone thinks you're scary in a bad way. You're just kind of intimidating because you're a really good fighter and you're so smart. You work on a different level with the rest of us. Jana can't shut up about how proud she is to be your partner, and all the awesome stuff you do...and she's the first one to start glaring at people who think otherwise."

Mei was surprised when Adam suddenly was no longer tripping over his words. She listened to everything he said carefully, and for the first time she felt like he was being brutally honest with her. While her heart did skip a beat after he told her she was beautiful and amazing, she forced herself to listen to everything he said. Hearing him talk about Jana made her roll her eyes, but she was also smiling too. That partner of hers had a big mouth. Eventually Mei reached over and took Adams hand. She was being forward, but it was only because she was confident that she enjoyed holding his hand. When Mei was confident about something she went for it, and she was comfortable with this now. "You aren't going to mess anything up. Everyone thinks I'm some sort of Queen...because I made them think that way. But truly, I'm just...like you and Jana. I have my weaknesses...I just never show them. Only my strength. It took a lot...to do this with you, Adam."

"I know, I promise I do," Adam said, hand slipping over hers. "...And that's why I don't want to screw this up," he murmured. "...I don't want to make you think you made a bad choice, Mei...and I'm going to do everything to prove that it wasn't." he said seriously. "...and I um..." he said, shifting a little. "...It'd...be really nice, you know? Being...together."

"We're together now." Mei told him as she looked at his hand that seemed to completely swallow her. She wasn't sure if he meant anything deeper, but she thought she would at least agree with him. "And it does feel nice. I don't think this was a bad choice at all." She continued on as her eyes went to look into his. She wasn't sure what else to say. She had...pretty much decided this was okay. To feel nice with a boy.

Adam smiled faintly at that, then took a deep breath. "...So I'm going to do something you might hit me for," he admitted. "...But I want to do it," he didn't give her a lot of room to figure out what that was...until he leaned closer and pressed his lips against hers. A ramen shop was...not the most romantic locale, but this was in the moment...and dammit, he was going to keep this courage that was steadily rolling down.

Mei raised an eyebrow when he warned her. Why would he do something that she'd hit him for? When he leaned in, she started to pull herself back but couldn't go anywhere really since her back was pressed to the chair. She didn't know what to do, so she shut her eyes. Then she felt his lips were against hers...and she completely froze. She didn't know what she was feeling. She didn't know how to react. She did know, however, that this was her first kiss. She probably should have enjoyed it. Even though she didn't ask Adam for it..he still...

Mei relaxed and let herself actually feel the sensation. He was going to draw back any second now. It would be horrible not to actually remember how his lips felt against hers. When he did pulled back, he would see a very flustered and confused looking Mei. Cheeks bright red, eyes shifting as if she didn't know what to feel or think. She was asking a million questions in her head, and not one of them could pass through her lips. Her heart was beating so fast she could hear her own pulse, and she swallowed slowly and did the only thing she could do. She hid.

Moving both her hands up to cover her face, Mei's confusion turned into a plethora of emotions. Most were synonymous with the word happy, but...it was almost overwhelming to her. It was overwhelming considering she could feel tears stinging at her eyes. She was so...happy. She wasn't sure if she had ever felt this way before and she was scared. She was scared of all these emotions coming out in public and in front of Adam. Oh God..he was totally going to think he made her mad..but if she said anything, she was so sure that she was going to start crying.

"...Um...Mei?" Adam said hopefully, daring to put her hand on her shoulder. He felt his heart sink just a little. He didn't...oh man, he didn't go too far, did he? Did he do it too soon? Was she not comfortable with that. "I'm...I'm sorry, I just..." What could he say to make her feel better... "I mean...I just...I wanted to..." No, that didn't sound good either...ugh. Maybe he should have just drank his noodle juice and acted like he didn't want to do that...

Crap. Crap..if she didn't say anything...he'd totally regret that. "No...no don't apologize. Please don't," She started, though she made no move to uncover her face. Her voice was definitely strained. She was fighting back crying and making a fool out of herself. If she cried..he'd definitely think less of her..or think that she hated him. "I liked it. I just..I'm really.." Happy, she was happy. Why couldn't she just say that? "It's just that..I never kissed anyone before..."

"...Me either," he admitted with a somewhat sheepish grin. "...It uh...wasn't so horrible that you're going to cry, are you?" he joked awkwardly, rubbing his neck. "...I figured you didn't want me to try something Jana'd suggest." he said. "...Because she suggested...things..." Adam muttered, grimacing just a little. Very...detailed...things...

He never kissed anyone before either? Why did he choose to kiss her then? "..No, it wasn't horrible." Bad joke. Mei was on the verge of crying now. She felt bad that she was crying in the first place. She didn't know what was wrong with her. "I'm sorry...I swear I'm not crying because of you." She said as she felt tears streaming down her cheeks. She looked away from him and tried her best to stop. Ugh. She really wanted it to stop but it wouldn't. She started rubbing the tears away with the sleeve of her sweater, hoping that if she dried them, they'd stop. "I'm really sorry, I'm ruining the date aren't I?"

"No," Adam said, taking her hands. "...But maybe we should go somewhere a little quieter and less noisy, so we can...you know...think a little?" he smiled. If...she said she wasn't crying because of him, he'd trust that. Mei probably wasn't a very good liar when she was crying...but it...kind of made him happy in a morbid way. He made her feel like this, that was something good...he just knew it. Even if it was hard to believe at face value.

"Okay, that sounds good." Mei sniffled a little and then reached into her wallet so she could pay for her meal. At least...well at least he didn't think she was ruining the date. Still, she was really embarrassed about crying after her first kiss. Seriously...she was sure that wasn't normal at all.

They walked hand in hand again once they left the ramen joint, Central was like any other spot in town, really. Except being DC meant that it was fairly orderly and safe, even at night. He decided that heading to the park would be the best way for her to relax and clear her mind.

"...So that wasn't bad, right?" Adam said, fingers linked with hers. "The kiss, I mean...I sort of...wanted to surprise you, a little." he grinned. "Did it work?"

Mei was staring at their hands again, as if this were some sort of dream. When he started talking to her she glanced up at him and gave him a nod. Then she looked away. "Yeah...it did. Especially when you told me you've never kissed a girl before. I thought I was the only one at our age...who never kissed anyone."

"There's lots of people, Mei," Adam smiled. "Trust me...you and I are definitely not the only ones, Jana is...er..." Adam mumbled. He didn't want to say anything that would offend Jana, aside from the fact that Adam liked Jana.

"Unique," he decided. "...Very unique. In a good way," he said. "Just...you know, sometimes she doesn't understand other views very well, she thinks she can strongarm her own opinion on it...sometimes, it works." he conceded. "...But other things, well...she's not very good at. She's certainly not the normal side of it."

"I see. She...she umm..." Mei thought about all the lewd and perverted things she talked about when it came to Justin. Then she asked if Mei had seen Adam..no. She had to think about something else. "Do you and Jana talk much? You seem to know a lot about her." Mei wasn't exactly sure what Jana did in her free time but it sounded like Adam knew more about her than she did. She felt the tinniest bit of jealously, but she didn't know if it was against Adam or Jana...she liked both of them a lot.

"We talk a good bit," Adam admitted. "I actually first met her when I was training...she's kind of rude, and a little crass...but her heart has always been in the right place. I've just learned to ignore certain...aspects of her," he grinned. "...Like most of what she says," he laughed.

"I wish I could ignore most of what she says. Even though all of it is the truth." Mei told him with a small smile. She then looked away for a moment. "...She told me you thought I was beautiful. I didn't think she was telling the truth."

"...Well, it is the truth," he said with a faint flush. "...You are beautiful, Mei...and I feel like the luckiest guy right now, being in the park with you." he smiled. "...I didn't know when we'd get a chance to do this, so I thought the sooner the better, you know?"
