Adrianna Detroit awoke that morning not to the blaring sound of her alarm, but to the sound of someone banging on her dorm room door. She groaned and got out of bed slowly, slipping on a fluffy pink robe as she did. She opened the door, looking weary, only to be greeted by the smirking face of her ex, Adrian. She seemed to immediately awaken and she frowned at him and said "What do you want?" she said in a cold voice.
His smirk only seemed to widen as he replied. "Is that the way you greet an old friend?" he said in his charming voice, one that had not so long ago, had been one of the ways he had broken through her hard shell. Now her shell was back, and stronger than ever before.
"Youâ??re no friend of mine" she said glaring at him and moved to close the door. He stopped it with his arm and said "Your right, we were much more then friends, Adrianna" he said grinning at her.
"Leave, Now" she said coldly. He pulled away and seemed to chuckle. "For now, see you in class" he said and walked away from her dorm. She watched him leave and closed the door, locking it. She turned and leaned back against the door and sank to the ground. The cold front she put on was how she protected herself from him. She was broken inside. Using his charm, wit and good looks he had clawed his way inside her heart, and when she had thought she had spat him back out again, he was trying to claw his was back in. She could feel the tears welling in her eyes but she pushed them back, wiping her eyes with her hands and walked into the bathroom and washed her face. From inside her room she could hear the sound of her alarm. Well at least she had not lost to much sleep.
Back inside the room, her roommate was awaking. Her name was Elise, and one of the kindest people she had ever met. At first she had refused to tell her anything about herself. Adrianna had decided to never put her trust in another ever again. The walls that Adrian had broken down, she had built back up, stronger than ever. Her studies were a distraction, and she achieved top grades in every class, except for one, politics. It had never been her strongest subject, but with Adrian in the same room, tormenting her in their lectures, it had only reflected badly on her performance.
Elise got up and walked into the bathroom. She looked at Adrianna and her face shifted into a look of worry. "Adrianna, have you been crying?"
She looked at her and said "No, I just got something in my eye, I was trying to rinse it out" she said. A believable lie, since she was a medical student. "I'm going to get ready for class" she said walking past her and to her wardrobe. She got dressed in the red skirt and top that was uniform for all female students at Starfleet academy. She pulled her hair back into a simple loose pony tail, her bangs hanging around her face and said "I'll see you at breakfast Elise" she said walking out of the room.
In about ten minutes she had already made her way over to the mess hall. There she sat alone, untill Elise joined her and they both began to eat together. Elise knew not to ask questions about what was upsetting Adrianna, but it did not make her any less worried. After a meal in silence, Elise spoke and said "You know Adrianna, you can tell me whatâ??s wrong...I might even be able to help you" she said softly. Adrianna looked at her, and then seemed to look past her and around her at their surroundings. The people here seemed so happy. They chatted with one another, laughed, joked, they wanted to be here. This place was supposed to be her escape, but it seemed that even Starfleet could not keep Adrian away from her. She looked down at her watched and stood up. "I have to get to class" she said and walked back to their dorm to pick up her laptop and walked to the lecture hall and sat down.
Her first class of the day was a medical subject, for which she was thankful for. Lucky enough for her, Adrian had been grouped in a different class. She prayed he would not find a way into her own. She remembered that today a new lecturer would be coming to teach them. His name was Doctor McCoy, Chief of medical staff on the enterprise. Any student would have felt honoured to have him to teach them; perhaps if she was her old self, Adrianna would have shared that sentiment.
