News of the king's demise had not reached Terra yet. The regent's men did first.
It started a normal day. Like every day as they. The winter had come on not long after Nathan was away. She hoped that Nathan's mission would not be hindered by the chilling weather and threat of snow to fall any day. The snow was just lightly falling when the call came up from the watch town that horses were approaching, many and fast. They flew the chest of the regent.
Terra did not know what the reason for this small army to come knocking on their door was, but she went to her room and quickly donned a dress worthy a duchess greeting important guests.
She was there as the horses came into the courtyard. The lead rider, a large man dismounted, and took a moment to pull something from his saddle bag. A sealed letter. He eyed Terra and approached. The cold look in his eyes made her chilled to the bone. She greeted him with a polite bob but before she could speech, he spoke first, "You are the Duchess of Mount Point?"
"I am my lord..."
"Belvar. I am the Earl of Belvar. You husband... why does he not come to greet me?"
Terra had heard the name before, but could not place it at the moment. "You must pardon my husband Lord Belvar, but he is not at home. He has gone to handle some business for a distant relative and I fear he may not return home before the snow falls, though I have hope still. I can assist you in his place."
"This would have been easier to speak with you husband first, but I cannot wait for the man. My lady, it is you I have come here seeking."
"Me?" Terra asked, looking genuinely shocked as he told her that. "What do you want with me?"
"I am afraid, my lady, I have come to arrest you by order of the regent."
Terra's face went pale as the gasps of the loyal servants around her gasped in the same shock she was in at that moment. "Arrested? Under what charges?"
He help the papers up though did not hand them to her, "Treason against the crown. You have been accused of working against the crown hand in hand with the criminal the Black Fox. The Black Fox is responsible for the death of the prince and now word has come that the Fox has killed the king himself."
"That's a lie!" Terra could not help herself from bursting out. "The Black Fox would never kill the king!"
The earl held up a hand to stop her, "My lady, it is best you say no more. You are innocent until you are proven guilty but I must take you to be held until such a time. You can come quietly as a royal prisoner or I will have to take you by force like a common criminal. You maid may pack you a few things. You are still a duchess and will be treated as such, I promise. Is there a man I can leave this message with for you husband."
"Arnold?" Terra looked about, still in shock, for the one man she thought could help her through this horrible twist of her fate.
