Little Things That Bother You

Me too, but my mom sheltered me a lot growing up. My only friends were my cousins and they weren't very good friends. But people with social anxiety usually spend a lot of time on the Internet because its anonymous and people can't see you/judge you.

I've done karaoke several times with friends... typically I'll sing with a friend as opposed to fully alone, though I have done it fully alone as well. Thing there is that I know I can sing, I'm just fearful of THAT many people watching me. I was like this with piano recitals as well and flute/band performances. And trust me when I say I've been in several. I've also done many voice performances (all choral, but still). I think it's just something that'll always be there. It's like public speaking... I HATESSSS IT! Though I've been told I'm very good at it. But that doesn't mean I'll ever like it or feel comfortable doing it or think of ways to get out of doing it, lol.

I've always thought I was good at public speaking. Turns out the opposite is true. I'm confident, I carry myself with poise and power, but I tumble over my words, and then I get nervous and start trying to make a speech less formal and I begin to use shorter, less eloquent words.

The only time I can speak and be deep or commanding, it seems, is when I am talking to someone but they can't see me, like when I'm gaming online.

Strangest thing though, is that whereas the spoken word fails me, when I write I use large words, I don't stumble or stutter, and generally its a thousand times more refined than if I were to speak the exact same words.

@Snake- You'se a wrestler!?

@ApocPony- Four YEARS!? How did he survive, how did he earn money....? That's....

Wow.

I do spend a lot of time on the internet and I think it's because I can actually be myself more so then I can be in public or with people. I know it's weird because some people create a totally different person from themselves while on the internet and I'm more myself while on the net.

My parents forced me to go out because I always looked for ways to stay away from people and even now I try to make it a point to do things with my friends every so often. Though now as an adult who recognizes my flaws, I try to be proactive about it and all things considered, I do ok. I'll always prefer my smaller groups or just being with hubs, but at least I make the time to do things and such. Won't say it's easy though because it isn't. I have to force myself. Biggest thing though is trying to make sure my kids don't get that way. As it is they are both introverted, but my son is now finally coming out of his shell loves getting together with friends. So, I feel good that I've managed to pull that off.

@MJ- I am a wrestler, I'm currently on a break from it due to some medical issues and needing to get back into shape and train some more to get my skills to where I want them but yes I am a wrestler and I love it! :)

Well, the Japanese have this belief that every person holds 3 faces to themselves.

One, the face of all- the face or self they show to the world.

One, the face of the few- the face/ self they show to those close to them.

One, the face of the one- the face/ self they show to nobody, save themselves.

I believe in this myself, and it is for that same reason that on the internet, I am different than I am if I were to meet someone in real life, and that person one would meet would change once they got closer to me.

You know how they say that Halloween (All Hallow's Eve, or the bastardization of Samhain) is the night of evil? Well, its not because of spirits or ghosts. Its because men's hearts hold secrets darker than any shadow. When we dress up and wear masks- the masks themselves are important we give our minds and souls an outlet to let loose and be our true selves. Masks hide us, and we can become whom we really are on the deepest levels of our psyche, if even for a few hours hours.

In a way, the internet is just another mask we can wear, so we can both be the Face of All AND be the Face of One at the same time.

That's very good, and I congratulate you on that. I am not a parent, so I don't know the troubles you face with that, but I do know that people- especially children- need help and encouragement in being more sociable and coming out of their shells. Its nice to see someone who cares for their kids in such a way that they are helping them to be happier down the road from such an early age.

Myself, I never got that, but it gives me hope for the future of the human race if we can have people teach their kids to be happy instead of letting them become shut-ins who are being babysat by then computer/TV/video games.

@Snake you should try Lucha Libre. Mexican masked wrestling a little more raw, and quickly gaining popularity here in the US. And you get to wear a mask, so again, you don't ever have to feel the self consciousness or anxiety of being in public. And if you are good, you get treated like a king by your fans, especially if you are a Technico- a face. If you are a rudo- a heel- you are generally booed, but have a smaller, more devoted fanbase.

I actually know quite a few masked wrestlers, I'm a very grounded, Technical, brawler type wrestler and couldn't see myself flying like the Luchadors but I've been told I could if I put my mind to it so I'll probably be looking into that in the future after I condition and get into the shape I want.

I say go for it, bro. I mean, if El Vampiro Canadiense (the Canadian vampire) is a real wrestler with the AAA, imdont see why anybody with the will and determination can't be a luchador, even if they aren't Hispanic.

@Hahvoc- so.... By that logic, neither is extreme surgery, mutilation, or even cuftinfg their character open and masturbating with their entrails.

People should really clarify that kind if thing, it seems.

I really totally agree with the second, and while I agree to a point with the first, what screws up PC is it being morphed into control on the one side, then as an excuse to live up to and make virtues out of stereotypes. Comedians like Kat Williams, Robin Williams, Lisa Lampanelli, Christopher Titus, Gabriel Iglesias, of course the legendary "Mr. Warmth" himself Don Rickles, Dennis Leary, and others like them have careers because of the hypocrisy of most people claiming to be PC, but who in fact swathe their own concealed bigotry behind finger pointing and manipulation.

People with overblown egos.
People who exhibit SSS (Special Snowflake Syndrome).

And here in.. this is where PC also can be manipulated.

People claiming to be doing things "for your own good" but who in reality are doing it because they feel if they cannot have it, you shouldn't either.

Experts who claim something is bad for you, when in reality they are getting paid off to brainwash people into thinking something is good that really isn't.

Same here. Not ashamed in the least. Being PC is.... Meh. People gotta grow up, stop taking offense at stuff. A person should be able to tell a black or Hispanic or midget joke (or even say the word midget) without being turned into a social pariah.

Indeed. Being overly PC or PI are ridiculous in my book. But, to me, anything in the extreme is ludicrous.
Let's add shallowness to my list.

Then you obviously don't like any politicians or realty television stars. LOL Again, I agree.

Attention whores. (like those "celebrities" that feel people really want to know little details about their lives....)

People "coming out" who never really were "in" and "out and prouds" who try to out people who may or may not be because they "feel it is time for..." whatever.

People who use the word "whatever" because they have lost the argument are never had anything of substance to say in the first place.. or who never knew what they were talking about to start with.
