She did as she was told, moving to the corner and out of the way. Megohime kept her eyes on Masamune the entire time, watching the doctors closely to make sure they didn’t try anything.
A soft scowl crept across her face as she listened to Masamune’s noises of pain once more, but she didn’t dare turn her eyes away. She felt guilt for his injury- she shouldn’t have left his side after all, even if it was an order.
Megohime stood in her spot, hands clasped behind her back, digging her nails into the backs of her hands as she listened to Masamune’s noises of pain. Her chest ached for him, she wanted to take the pain away, but all she could do was stand there silently.
When they finished, they left the burn uncovered to allow it to scab.
"Please just be very careful around him, don't let him move, it could hinder healing." The nurse instructed Megohime.
He looked even more tired than before, and the nurses thanked her before leaving.
"Just fucking chop it off..." Masamune muttered weakly, eye pained, "Anything is better than this..."
She made a soft noise and sat down on the edge of the bed, putting a hand gently on his cheek. “You’ve gone through worse than this- this is nothing.” She said softly.
Megohime leaned in to kiss him softly on the temple, holding him close for a brief moment. “Was shooting me not enough?” She teased back.
Amaya had finished getting her burns treated at the hospital and had finally made it home to the base Sasuke had set up. It was painfully quiet, only a small handful of men milling about, everyone patched up from the fight as well. “Sasuke in the office, or still at Date’s?”
“And what will it take to make us even?” She asked, resting her head against his, petting his hair to try and keep his attention off the pain.
Amaya nodded and started down the hall. “Thanks.” She said quietly, knowing everyone’s spirits would be down for a while. She stopped outside the door and knocked lightly before entering.
“Well I think that’s hardly fair, I didn’t get to keep yours.” Megohime pointed out, a bit of feigned indignation in her voice.
She gave a nod, stepping in and closing the door. “The dress is ruined, but the doctor said my back would heal in no time.” She said. “Didn’t hurt a bit either.”
She shook her head, gently running her fingertips across his cheek. “I don’t want it.”
Amaya was hoping he wouldn’t bring it up. “I didn’t realize I was pushing so hard, I’m sorry. I put everyone in danger and it won’t happen again.” She said softly.
