The Prep and the Outcast

Zero would stay and cuddle Courtney for another hour or two before he heard the door downstairs banging open then closed. "Crap that's probably your mom." he said and gently withdrew from her and dressed again. He'd bit her a fond farewell and climbed down the trellis outside of her window and vanished into the twilight.

--------

The next day, Zero would be at school as normal but he was dressed oddly. In a nice dress jacket with a button down shirt and black slacks with dress shoes. It was a departure from his normal, casual school uniform-type clothing and nobody knew why. But rumors were floating around saying he was meeting someone in the school after the day was over. He'd been seen talking to someone in the hallway and soon after the person was seen walking off school grounds reading something.

The next day, Courtney was dropped off at school by her father. She would of been dressed in her usual school uniform but that day she had cheerleading practice during her study hall about half way through the day so she was dressed in her pale blue and white cheerleading outfit. Hers was a little different from the other girls since she was head cheerleader. But once she was done with practice, she would change into her school uniform. When she was walking through the halls, she could feel people staring at her and she could hear the whispers of people gossiping, but she just ignored them. Courtney was actually excited to see Zero and she was a little nervous. She was planning on stopping at a drug store after school and picking up a pregnancy test.

Zero would meet her in the hallway and perked a brow at how she looked in the white and light blue cheerleader outfit. Damn she looked hot in that, but he'd shake off his own thoughts about wanting her even more with her in that outfit. He'd adjust the collar of the jacket he was wearing and combed a hair through his hair to straighten it out some neatly.. Fact was he had a job interview after school, and he wanted to make a good impression on the possible employer, it was a corporation afterall. And it was just a basic security position but it was still all good, as it was a basic job that offered good benefits and pay. "Hello there." he said, grabbing her gently from behind and hugged her, kissing/nibbling the back of her neck to tease her some. Damn the rumormill on that.

Courtney jumped and struggled a little when she was grabbed from behind until she heard his voice and she stopped struggling. She giggled softly and gave a gentle moan as he kissed and nibbled her neck. "Hello." she said with a smile. Slowly she turned to face him an arched an eyebrow and a grin. "You look nice Zero." she said while checking him out. "You look really good." Smiling up at him, she stood on her tiptoes and softly kissed him on the lips.

Zero nodded to her and kissed her back gently, giving a few jealous guys the finger while Courtney couldn't see it. He pulled back after the moment and nodded to her and took a breath, as if he was uncomfortable wearing it really. "I have a job interview after school." he said and looked around some and fumed at the people staring. "OK GET BACK TO WHAT YOU WERE DOING!" he shouted at them.

Making a few girls jump and scoot off and a few guys scowling at him for it.

"A job interview? For where?" she asked softly while wrapping her arms around him a little. When he yelled at the people staring, she jumped again before laughing when she saw several girls hurrying away. Courtney shook her head with a smile before sighing happily.

"yeah." he said and nodded, mentioning the name of a well-to-do business office downtown. "I got paid off my last job when they went out of business." Zero sighed some. "it's been a bit hard making ends meet to keep my apartment as well." he shrugged some and looked at her. He recognized her outfit and thought he needed to let her go off so she wouldn't be late. "Practice today?" he asked. "What're you doing after school?"

She nodded slowly and smiled widely before kissing him on the lips. "Well I wish you best of luck with that." she said to him. "And I want you to call me after the interview is over." She heard him ask about practice and she glanced down at her uniform before nodding with a smile. "Yeah. I've practice before fifth period." she told him before sighing softly and blushing a little. "After school... I'm going to the drug store then heading home."

He nodded to her and hheld her for a few moments gently. "I'll call you after I do that then to find out the results of it." Zero said and kissed her again. "I should let you go get to class though, I'd hate it if I made you late because of me." he said and began to release her slowly as if he didn't really want to. "The gym teachers already get on me about my conduct, they'll probably lay into me more if I made you late too."

She pulled a piece of paper and a pen from her purse and quickly jotted down her cellphone number before slipping the paper into his hand. "Don't you worry about me being late. I'm heading for the auditorium for drama and they don't mind if I'm late." she said and kissed him before stepping away from him after he released her. "I'll talk to you later."

Zero would nod and let her go off as he had to get to class for once as well and saw her off to her class.

Later on in the day....

---

Z sighed, undoing the collar of the button up shirt and the jacket and walked down the street, he'd gotten the afterschool job. But the interview was crazy formal with a seemingly uptight female executive. He thought he'd never get out of there to meet Courtney while she was still out and about, and flicked his cellphone open and dialed her number.

After he let her go, Courtney hurried off to her next class. For the rest of the day, her mind was on everything but on what it was supposed to be on.

When she got his call, Courtney was just leaving the drugstore and was on her way home. Hearing Fur Elise playing, she opened her purse and took out her cell phone. Checking the incoming number, she bit her lip before opening the phone and pressing answer. "Hey." she said as she made her way down the sidewalk. "How'd it go?"

"It went well enough, but I swear that woman was intent on keeping me there until dinner." Zero said tiredly. "Playing twenty questions is bad enough but 50? yeah remind me not to do that again ok?" he said, walking along the street. "Which drug store are you coming from?" he asked her over the phone. "I'll hook up with you. want to get dinner?" he asked.

Courtney began softly laughing at his comments about the woman and she smiled. She looked down at the bag in her hand and sighed softly. "I just left O'Reilly's." she said to him. "And sure, dinner sounds good. I didn't have enough time to get lunch today." She brushed her hair back from her face, tucking her bangs behind her ears.

"Then you're going to hate me in about twenty seconds." he said as he walked up behind her and lightly grabbed her rear to surprise her and hung up, clapping the phone shut. "Miss me much?" he asked her with a tired look on his face, made clear by his habit of running his hand through his hair as he looked at her.

"I'm what? Zero, what are you talking about?" she asked before he walked up behind her and grabbed her rear, making her jump and drop her cellphone, the bag from the store and her purse. Turning quickly, she glared up at him before swatting his arm. "Zero! Don't do that!" she exclaimed before sighing and smiling up at him while shaking her head. Crouching down, she picked up her things front the ground and closed her cellphone before slipping it into her purse. "Yes, I missed you." she said. She noticed how tired he looked and a concerned look passed over her face. "You look tired Zero. Are you okay?"

Zero nodded to her and stretched slightly and watched her for a moment. "Like I said, just having to stay so laser focused on what was going on wore on me is all. I was getting asked questions repeatedly as she was trying to trip me up if I didn't catch it." He explained and walked with her down the street. "I can appreciate wanting honest people for a security job and all but that's a bit too much, but I'm glad I'm out of there so I an see you." hes aid.

Courtney smiled gently and reached out, running her finger tips along his cheek. "Well, if she asks for any references, you can give her my number." she said gently. "Now. How about we get something to eat? I'm starving." She reached down and took one of his hands into hers.

He took her hand and nodded, walking with her. "That depends largely on what you want, I'm impartial at the moment myself. he said and watched her for a moment. He knew she hadnt' tested herself out yet but part of him wanted to know already; maybe it was anxiety speaking? "Well on the other hand, when you find out what the results are, you'll tell me right?" he asid nodding to her purse when she was keeping the Pregnancy test.

"Well... Why don't we go back to my place and I'll make us something to eat and I can do the test there? I'd rather you be there with me." she said gently, looking up at him with a nervous look in her eyes. "I-I got several tests to double check and then to do them again in about a month just to make sure." Courtney looked up at him while biting her bottom lip. Even though he said that he would take responsibility for the baby if she were pregnant, she was still scared of what the results would be.

"There's no fear to it really but I guess i can understand the reason why you'd have it." he said as they continued on toward her house. But it was still a good distance off from where they were. "Personally I'm more concerned with how your parents will take it, since I don't have any I'm not concerned about that." he said with a shrug. "but I have a feeling I won't hear the end of it from yours."

Courtney shook her head with a sigh. "Neither of us would hear the end of it. I'm sure mother will rant and rave about being too young to be a grandmother." She looked up at him with a slightly amused smile while squeezing his hand a little. "Well pull through all right though, won't we?" she asked softly.

He laughed a bit to her and nodded. "We'll get through it just fine, it's part of the reason why I took the job that would pay a good wage at the very least with some good benefits." Zero said to her and wrapped his arm around her waist gently and walked with her, holding her close. They looked openly like a couple at the very least. "I'll always be there for you."

She was comforted by his hold on her and she sighed softly with a smile. She wrapped her arm around his waist and laid her head on his shoulder as they walked together. Courtney was glad that they were so comfortable with each other and she hoped that he was right about them getting through things just fine. "So, how does some beef stew sound to you?" she asked him.

"I can't cook a think from scratch unless it comes with directions." Zero laughed a bit as they walked together, a few of the older women they passed whispering about it and smiling. "I'd love it if you're going to make it for me." he said to her and rubbed her side gently and caressed her side.
