S Y N O P S I S

Congratulations on selection and welcome to Project Exodus, the state of the art space colonization program destined to populate and terraform habitable planets in distant star systems. Project Exodus is a multinational conglomerate in cooperation for the sake of mankind. Our goal is of the noblest caliber, to save our species from the inevitable envirmental degradation of Earth. To stop this extinction event from occurring, 'Seed Ships' are being sent to colonize and create new governments on far away worlds. Ark Genesis is one such Seed Ship currently traveling towards the binary star system Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to Earth. Ark Genesis's speed is limited to one-tenth the speed of light over the vast distance of space, making the total travel time 1,000 years to reach its destination. The settlers of Ark Genesis are in a state if cryogenic stasis for the length of the journey, as a means to guarantee you will all see the skies of your new home world.

Ark Genesis is overseen by an advanced A.I named EVE, whom is in control of the Arks systems. EVE has a legion of maintenance drones and holograms that act as her arms and legs on the ship. As a secondary precaution alongside EVE's surveillance, a group of Caretakers periodically awaken during the journey to check the ships maintenance, run diagnostics, analyze data gathered from space, and teach the younger colonists jobs that will be required during planetfall. Lastly, It will be up to you and your crew to decide political policy and leadership.

Earth is dying, and Project Exodus is the only option for our peoples continued existence. Despite what Earth's political leaders say, the tipping point of irreversible environmental damage has long been passed. Our dying planet is stretched to it's maximum population limit, with vast industrial cityscapes dominating are once green and blue world. Food and water are becoming scares, and economic projections indicate the worst market collapse since the great depression. The scientific reality is Earth is no longer viable for sustained life. Project Exodus is your escape to a new life, and a second chance.

We Need You.jpg

At Project Exodus, we exclusively select our colonists from the greatest minds and training Earth has to offer. To safely maintain Ark Genesis over the great journey and during planetfall, experts of any age (25-70) in all natural science fields are open to candidacy in our program. The natural science positions for engineering, physics, chemistry, biology (xenobiology, medicine), geology (terraforming), botany (hydroponics) and many more are all welcome in Project Exodus.

Additionally positions in soft science fields are also open for designing the new governments on our new worlds, and for the psychological wellbeing of our treasured colonists. Available soft science positions include history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and social science. With no oversight from our founders due to the great distance, It will be your duty and privilege to decide what system of governance your society will take.

Fit (21-36) Security personal with military and combat experience are required for the safety of the ship, as mutiny deterrent, and as a last resort from unknown xeno threats.

Young (16-24) candidates that pass our genetic screening will be selected for genetic diversity your future populations will require. These younger candidates will be trained en route with a mentor of assigned field.

The exception to these standards is our honored donors and their families that helped fund Project Exodus. Without their vision and tenacity, this dream would never have come to be.

As early as the second-half of the 21st Century Earth's environment began to significantly degrade at alarming rates, but remained habitable. The population is near 15 billion, causing massive food and water shortages throughout the world. With increasingly limited resources on earth, large space habitats throughout the Sol system were constructed to strip-mine every available asset to support the ever growing human population. Three world superpowers emerged from the 21st century nations. The Union of Progressive peoples (UPP), founded by Russia and China. The United Americas founded by the United States, Mexico and Brazil. And Three World Empire, a union formed by United Kingdoms and Japan. While there have been several large scale skirmishes between the super powers, a full war has yet to be waged.
UPP.png

The UPP is a powerful socialist block that controls a vast, resource-rich sector of sol space. The combined Russian, Chinese and smaller socialist client states joined into a massive political conglomerate. Virtually since its formation, the UPP has been locked in a state of cold war with the United Americas, and although behind its rivals in the space and arms race, they still maintained a formidable interstellar fighting force. Indicative of their inferior technological prowess, most of their advanced technology was seemingly reverse-engineered from black ops skirmishes. In the UPP, they say trust your enemy to be your enemy, but never trust your neighbor to be your friend.

Notably, the Union of Progressive Peoples was the only major federation of its era not to be influenced by corporate concerns, a fact that often put it at odds with its rivals the United Americas and the Three World Empire.

Flag_of_United_Americas.png

The United Americas is the most powerful starfaring and colonizing nation in the 22nd century. An economic and political giant in both the Sol system and throughout the offworld colonies, the military might of the UA was unparalleled. Formed by the combined power of North, Central, and South America in response to the other growing world powers. Megacorporation's play a overwhelming role in United Americas economy, working as a shadow government that sways political decisions and plans.

The United Americas is essentially an extension of the government of the United States of America, and as such is run by a President, Vice President, and a Congress representing all member signatories. In the Outer Belt, any encounter with UA leadership is likely to be with a Colonial Marshall, a bureaucrat from Colonial Administration or a commander of the Colonial Marines.

3WE.png
The Three World Empire was the first of the so-called "conglomerate nations", forming in 2056, a full 4 years before its nearest equivalent, the United Americas. As a result, the 3WE pioneered space exploration and established most of the long-term colonies in the inner systems, becoming the most technologically prosperous interstellar superpower of its time. Even before its formation, founding members the UK and Japan had led the way in space exploration and settlement technologies, primarily through the British Corporations and the Japanese technology firms, which became the first companies to construct human colonies on other planetary bodies within the Sol System.

It was this dawning of the interstellar age that triggered the formation of the 3WE — confronted with the possibility of potentially endless resources among the stars, the UK and Japan jointly realized that they would have a stronger base from which to pursue this newly unlocked potential if they pooled their resources. Thus they, together with India and several developing nations, united to begin the process of travelling out into the stars and colonizing new worlds. Due to their preexisting technological advantage, the 3WE quickly spread throughout the Inner Belt and into the resource-rich Outer Belt.

Much like the UK and Japan before it, the Three World Empire was a parliamentary democracy overseen by a constitutional monarchy. The monarchy, consisting of the former royal families of Britain and Japan now joined by marriage, served as a figurehead for the state but in reality held little real power. Governance was instead handled by an elected parliament consisting of representatives from each territory and former nation, led by a Prime Minister.

This rp could be primarily focused on slice of life, are characters intermingling while running the colony ship. I'll likely have occasional 'events' that take place and need to be solved by the group. It could have survival/horror elements if we want to roleplay beyond simple character interactions, such things like malfunctions, aliens, rouge AI, etc. It could have a mystery element, strange things going on in and around the ship. Overall I'd like to have the feeling be based in realism, or plausibility. Having some knowledge in what your character's expertise is would be amazing to add to the world building. Please let me know if this idea might interest you and let me know of any ideas you might have related to it. if I get enough interest I'll do deep dive on more details about the ship and what not.

Given her biggest pet peeve, would you say she goes out of her way to dress and/or act feminine?
Very much so.

The Alcubierre drive is so much speculation that I don't see how we'd ever get to build one,, not in 75 years and not in 75,000 years. The first proposal by Alcubierre used some sort of negative mass black hole with mass energy equivalent to that of Jupiter IIRC. A newer proposal needs far less negative mass, but still - negative mass - not something that to our knowledge exists in this universe - it's not part of the standard model or anything else we juggle around with.

There are so many problems with a FTL drive. The fact that the whole universe isn't colonized yet is a pretty good indication that they doesn't exists.

STL drives however are feasible. There are several types that could be build using technology we have now. The most pressing issue however is how to generate power once in interstellar space. Fusion power comes to mind with Kugelblitz Black holes being a good, but quite problematic way of power storage (and most likely not made until a civilization have a dyson sphere of some kind).

How long is a fusion powered generators shelf life? In terms of how long it would to take for a new one to be needed. In theory.

Also, what about zero-point energy? I know nothing about other than it is something that people have theorized science fiction based tech with.

The shelf life of a fusion power plant is just depending on maintenance. If we had the technology, it would create energy from the most abundant substance in the universe. With fusion power you could power the city of New York for over 1000 years with less than 100 ton of Hydrogen, unless my calculations are off.

Zero point energy? That is the lowest energy level a quantum state can have. In theory the difference between the state that our universe is in and the zero point state is extreme for just a cubic meter of space. But IIRC the state will be unstable and once you get to that state it will start a chain reaction, causing the whole universe to go into that state - basically destroying the universe at the speed of light. I think zero point energy will be beyond even Kardeshev 3 civilizations.

lol, while I could totally see humans attempting Zero point energy, (I know they thought that splitting the atom with the first nuclear bomb could cause a similar chain reaction of annihilations) perhaps sticking with nuclear fusion based technology would make the most sense for a STL drive in 2098. But again, no one in the rp is going to have to actual understand the science of this, though I do think that having a realistic edge makes things more interesting. Does this sound ok with you Lightsenshi?

Would also make sense for the ship to have some type of Hydrogen collection system for fuel, much like the Heigus Particles from the anime Knights of Sidonia.

Oh and Blue-Eyes, I was doing some calculations on how much Earth like gravity rooms there would be on this ship, and realized this ship is going to absolutely monolithic with a 2000m diameter lol. 2000m is 1.24 miles, which means on just a single 2 dimensional segment of Ark Genesis will have 4 miles of earth gravity rooms based on the circumference alone. If you take into account the length of the ship, there's going to more space for locations than we'll ever need lol.

Also, when we are both done with our characters, we could possibly discuss if we know each other somehow, both being Russian girls from the UPP and everything.

I would love to do that. YC is just a few years older than MC and with MC never really having any family or real friends, she'd easily latch onto someone that she could consider a friend.

Oh no! I'm not out in any way!!! I can actually see why you'd read that. My bad. Most likely a relic of me not being a native speaker, or perhaps it's just because it's approaching midnight faster than I really like.

Any thoughts on androids? And if so, how advanced should they be? I for one don't really want to have them be identical to humans, perhaps at the David level from Prometheus... not sure though. Still considering.
Should we have androids, or should we just have synthetic humans like me? It would be like the replicants in Blade Runner, they're considered a biomechanical device designed to labour in the outer reaches of space, not people. What would be the social conventions regarding 'designer humans?' I had imagined Eden would be looked upon as this entitled princess by her peers, but if they know she's synthetic (?) would they tolerate her a little more? I figured that being highly specialized in one field would potentially make me a burden to others who are more experienced spacers, thus creating friction with my colleagues.

Being from Canada I imagined the Lorde Family contributed not only significant capital, but developed Canada's significant natural resources - chief among them; water. Canada possesses around 20% of the world's fresh water so I figure the Lorde Family bought their way on board with millions of gallons of potable water. Don't know if that could result in any politicking onboard or if the management of this resource is my primary concern.

With my genetic enhancements, I figure this kind of makes me a mentat or guild navigator from Herbert's Dune. My computer-brain makes the calculations necessary to fold space (or whatever type of engine we end up with), making me indispensable in one particular field, but ill-equipped in most other practical skills that experienced spacers excel at.

Being that the most expensive part of (building) a spaceship is to get it into orbit. And that water is quite abundant everywhere in the universe (one of the three most common molecules IIRC). And that the setting seems to have a rather well established infrastructure in the solar system (base on pluto). I think it's safe to say that the water (along with almost all other raw materials) in the spaceship doesn't come from Earth but more likely from a comet (or meteorites) pushed gently towards the construction site and then dismantled there.

I definitely don't have any issues with genetically altered or engineered people, so long as It's within reason. We can already alter genetics in real to a degree, and having a very rich family essentially be a 'designer human' like you said. They would still be human, just certain genetic traits would be increased or decreased based on what the end goals are. I probably wouldn't call a genetically engineered human synthetic though, just because I think that's gonna be confusing if we do end up having robotic androids, which would be synthetic in nature. But I imagine designer humans would have some problems socially in terms of what other people might think of them. I could see fundamentalist religious groups seeing them as an abomination, I could see people questioning if they have a soul, and I could see an argument made that they are property, since they were actually engineered in a lab. But they are also genetically human in everyway, It's not like its a transhuman situation, so I also think they would be completely accepted by others too.

I can totally see my UPP girl looking at your 3WE girl and thinking, 'great... some silver spoon capitalist with fancy blood...'. Not really understanding the implications of being an indentured servant, and corporate property. I think that will be a fun rp point of contention.

Hey boss! Do you want us to post our characters on the character thread when we are done or do you need to approve of them?

Backstory

Eden is the genetically engineered daughter of a wealthy family, and she was created with the purpose of ensuring the family bloodline prospers well into future generations. Her main purpose in life is made exceedingly complicated due her being a lesbian, and longs to forge a relationship for genuine feelings rather than serving other's interests as a honeypot. Despite her elite parentage she is still a created being, and legally property. EVE has been granted oversight over her conduct during the mission, and has limited authority over her actions. Due to her background in computing and the Lorde family's role in it's construction, Eden shares a unique relationship with EVE and serves as an informal liaison to the AI despite not working on the computer core. Once the Ark reaches it's final destination, Eden's role is to secure a politically advantageous marriage and ensure her family's elite standing in the new world.
Finished polishing my bio! If everything flies with you, I'll add her to the Exodus Character page!

Hey boss! Do you want us to post our characters on the character thread when we are done or do you need to approve of them?
Yep your free to post them in the character thread! And feel free to plot and plan possible character connections or plots between characters if you'd like.

So we are pretty much ready to start this rp, there's couple other things I intend to setup but everything that we really need to do has been done. I'm thinking everyone that has an accepted character can make a thread for there private quarters, I'll make one for Cassidy as an example. Nothing too fancy, but there is quite alot of space on Ark Genesis so medium private quarters would be fine.

That's fine with me, I'll tentatively start planning when the rp will start. But I don't have an issue giving everyone at least a week to finish up characters ad make connections. I imagine the first Major event will be characters awakening from hibernation, new characters can always awaken later, they just won't be apart of the Initial crew awakening and meeting.

Yeah, for my char, can't really think of anything he'd be "awake" for other than maybe mentoring young'ns or trying to plan a new government

I will add my character.

I'd love to have some relations to some of you. But I'm not sure if MC have had much contact with anyone outside of Earth and outside the UPP (maybe scientific characters).

I can see her perhaps knowing Cassidy and through her Kieran as they are all Russian.

I think that's reason enough, any reason will do. He does have overall Spacer knowledge, which would be useful for pretty much anything

I will add my character.

We could come up with reason for characters to know each other pretty easily. I don't think it would be farfetched that there was likely a couple months of Ark Genesis training, lectures and protocols that all the characters would have gone through. And yeah if we want a connection, it would be pretty easy with our shared background in the UPP.

I know for a fact that Cassidy is not going to want a private room, she'll want a roommate as she absolutely hates being alone.

Figure I'd ask if you have any room for United Americas security personnel? Thanks!
