S Y N O P S I S

Congratulations on selection and welcome to Project Exodus, the state of the art space colonization program destined to populate and terraform habitable planets in distant star systems. Project Exodus is a multinational conglomerate in cooperation for the sake of mankind. Our goal is of the noblest caliber, to save our species from the inevitable envirmental degradation of Earth. To stop this extinction event from occurring, 'Seed Ships' are being sent to colonize and create new governments on far away worlds. Ark Genesis is one such Seed Ship currently traveling towards the binary star system Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to Earth. Ark Genesis's speed is limited to one-tenth the speed of light over the vast distance of space, making the total travel time 1,000 years to reach its destination. The settlers of Ark Genesis are in a state if cryogenic stasis for the length of the journey, as a means to guarantee you will all see the skies of your new home world.

Ark Genesis is overseen by an advanced A.I named EVE, whom is in control of the Arks systems. EVE has a legion of maintenance drones and holograms that act as her arms and legs on the ship. As a secondary precaution alongside EVE's surveillance, a group of Caretakers periodically awaken during the journey to check the ships maintenance, run diagnostics, analyze data gathered from space, and teach the younger colonists jobs that will be required during planetfall. Lastly, It will be up to you and your crew to decide political policy and leadership.

Earth is dying, and Project Exodus is the only option for our peoples continued existence. Despite what Earth's political leaders say, the tipping point of irreversible environmental damage has long been passed. Our dying planet is stretched to it's maximum population limit, with vast industrial cityscapes dominating are once green and blue world. Food and water are becoming scares, and economic projections indicate the worst market collapse since the great depression. The scientific reality is Earth is no longer viable for sustained life. Project Exodus is your escape to a new life, and a second chance.

We Need You.jpg

At Project Exodus, we exclusively select our colonists from the greatest minds and training Earth has to offer. To safely maintain Ark Genesis over the great journey and during planetfall, experts of any age (25-70) in all natural science fields are open to candidacy in our program. The natural science positions for engineering, physics, chemistry, biology (xenobiology, medicine), geology (terraforming), botany (hydroponics) and many more are all welcome in Project Exodus.

Additionally positions in soft science fields are also open for designing the new governments on our new worlds, and for the psychological wellbeing of our treasured colonists. Available soft science positions include history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and social science. With no oversight from our founders due to the great distance, It will be your duty and privilege to decide what system of governance your society will take.

Fit (21-36) Security personal with military and combat experience are required for the safety of the ship, as mutiny deterrent, and as a last resort from unknown xeno threats.

Young (16-24) candidates that pass our genetic screening will be selected for genetic diversity your future populations will require. These younger candidates will be trained en route with a mentor of assigned field.

The exception to these standards is our honored donors and their families that helped fund Project Exodus. Without their vision and tenacity, this dream would never have come to be.

As early as the second-half of the 21st Century Earth's environment began to significantly degrade at alarming rates, but remained habitable. The population is near 15 billion, causing massive food and water shortages throughout the world. With increasingly limited resources on earth, large space habitats throughout the Sol system were constructed to strip-mine every available asset to support the ever growing human population. Three world superpowers emerged from the 21st century nations. The Union of Progressive peoples (UPP), founded by Russia and China. The United Americas founded by the United States, Mexico and Brazil. And Three World Empire, a union formed by United Kingdoms and Japan. While there have been several large scale skirmishes between the super powers, a full war has yet to be waged.
UPP.png

The UPP is a powerful socialist block that controls a vast, resource-rich sector of sol space. The combined Russian, Chinese and smaller socialist client states joined into a massive political conglomerate. Virtually since its formation, the UPP has been locked in a state of cold war with the United Americas, and although behind its rivals in the space and arms race, they still maintained a formidable interstellar fighting force. Indicative of their inferior technological prowess, most of their advanced technology was seemingly reverse-engineered from black ops skirmishes. In the UPP, they say trust your enemy to be your enemy, but never trust your neighbor to be your friend.

Notably, the Union of Progressive Peoples was the only major federation of its era not to be influenced by corporate concerns, a fact that often put it at odds with its rivals the United Americas and the Three World Empire.

Flag_of_United_Americas.png

The United Americas is the most powerful starfaring and colonizing nation in the 22nd century. An economic and political giant in both the Sol system and throughout the offworld colonies, the military might of the UA was unparalleled. Formed by the combined power of North, Central, and South America in response to the other growing world powers. Megacorporation's play a overwhelming role in United Americas economy, working as a shadow government that sways political decisions and plans.

The United Americas is essentially an extension of the government of the United States of America, and as such is run by a President, Vice President, and a Congress representing all member signatories. In the Outer Belt, any encounter with UA leadership is likely to be with a Colonial Marshall, a bureaucrat from Colonial Administration or a commander of the Colonial Marines.

3WE.png
The Three World Empire was the first of the so-called "conglomerate nations", forming in 2056, a full 4 years before its nearest equivalent, the United Americas. As a result, the 3WE pioneered space exploration and established most of the long-term colonies in the inner systems, becoming the most technologically prosperous interstellar superpower of its time. Even before its formation, founding members the UK and Japan had led the way in space exploration and settlement technologies, primarily through the British Corporations and the Japanese technology firms, which became the first companies to construct human colonies on other planetary bodies within the Sol System.

It was this dawning of the interstellar age that triggered the formation of the 3WE — confronted with the possibility of potentially endless resources among the stars, the UK and Japan jointly realized that they would have a stronger base from which to pursue this newly unlocked potential if they pooled their resources. Thus they, together with India and several developing nations, united to begin the process of travelling out into the stars and colonizing new worlds. Due to their preexisting technological advantage, the 3WE quickly spread throughout the Inner Belt and into the resource-rich Outer Belt.

Much like the UK and Japan before it, the Three World Empire was a parliamentary democracy overseen by a constitutional monarchy. The monarchy, consisting of the former royal families of Britain and Japan now joined by marriage, served as a figurehead for the state but in reality held little real power. Governance was instead handled by an elected parliament consisting of representatives from each territory and former nation, led by a Prime Minister.

This rp could be primarily focused on slice of life, are characters intermingling while running the colony ship. I'll likely have occasional 'events' that take place and need to be solved by the group. It could have survival/horror elements if we want to roleplay beyond simple character interactions, such things like malfunctions, aliens, rouge AI, etc. It could have a mystery element, strange things going on in and around the ship. Overall I'd like to have the feeling be based in realism, or plausibility. Having some knowledge in what your character's expertise is would be amazing to add to the world building. Please let me know if this idea might interest you and let me know of any ideas you might have related to it. if I get enough interest I'll do deep dive on more details about the ship and what not.

Interested as well, always down to play an analyst, someone single, middle-class and volunteering to sign on since he didn't have to worry about a house or anything and it would be a great way to save money. I'd be very open to plotting shared backgrounds as well.

Hey Kckolbe and THEroleplayer, glad you guys are interested. I'll probably play the A.I Eve and an additional character for starters. Planning a shared background would be great, I'm just going to wait and see if anyone else would want to be involved before I spend too much time writing my setting information. Though I'm for ideas and suggestions if something sparks your imagination!

This isn't much of a suggestion, but the question will arise of how people ended up on this project. Forced colonization, debt forgiveness for qualified applicants, etc. A thousand years is a long time after all. I imagine my char either would have no family at all, or have a family member on the ship as well.

I'm interested in hearing about this as well, before I decide whether or not to join in.

I updated my initial post with what I hope answers those specific questions! :)

If anyone has other suggestions or questions please just ask.

I'd like to submit a character who's the chief engineer at the time the voyage starts. Who better to run the engines than the guy who designed them?

I can definitely save you that spot, I'll try and come up with some sort of character profile for consistent character creation.

Oh that's a good anime! Yeah I think something based on Heigus Particles would work great for how Genesis powers its engine and systems. To survive a thousand year journey across space, you'd need an infinite power source to get there. I added a character template I think will work for this rp as well! If anyone is interested, send my your character first for approval.

I don't know about you, but I saw this as a huge mistake. Imagine how limited space would be, with so many needed who could help run the ship, some needed who could help prepare the new world for larger-scale inhabitation, some to help build initial settlements, etc. And yet there is a special category set up for individuals whose only expected contribution would be to "lead."

My first thought would be to call this out as a world-building mistake, but honestly, I could see it happening. Further, I could see myself playing one of the "useless," one of many college graduates who pursued a degree based on interests rather than prospects, the kind of bad decision-making that screams "leadership potential."

1. You mentioned aliens. I have an idea for that. They'd be near-human and originally from Earth, but with genetic modifications and thousands of years of evolution on a different planet. Also technological blue prints from a much more advanced intergalactic species who occasionally trickles tech down to them when they're ready. They'd basically be substantially more advanced than humans but would have human personalities and be attractive to the human eye. Their ancestors were extracted from Europe shortly after Humans and neanderthals merged together and evolved on a large heavy radiation bathed world for the last 50,000 years or so. They'll find it amusing how primitive human space flight is since their own empire spans about 20 star systems.

2. There's also one other idea for aliens that wouldn't involve humans being outclassed but it would be super interesting. These aliens would be humanoid but not near-human. And the humans would need to rescue them to even make a first contact possible. Let me know if you want to hear this idea.

Here's the seed ship from an anime on a very similar subject. I could quote from it, but it supports a population in excess of a million residents. Besides, we're talking about science fiction; so things can be stretched a bit.

I'll post a completed character sometime tomorrow, as I want to let my sub-conscious work on it a bit more.

Actually really fascinated with this, for a pretty simple prompt. I would be gunning for someone in the youth program for engineering... or philosophy. I know they couldn't be more different, but I'm not sure yet.

Questions if OP feels like it:
  1. When it comes to the genetic screening for younger colonists, is that presented more as a mysterious "You are selected," or do they have some idea what the criteria were?
  2. How high-tech are we talking? The art looks very "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" but the writing feels more grounded and... frontiersmanly, so I thought I'd ask.
  3. Speaking of the art, I guess the character sheet "face claim" ought to be illustrated, or no?

My first thought would be to call this out as a world-building mistake, but honestly, I could see it happening.
Yeah, exactly, it personally lends believability for me. The soft sciences are majorly weaponized today, and whatever corporate or government interests funded this operation need to have their agendas fulfilled, after all.

Hey~! I don't have much experience with public group roleplays. I am looking to step out of my comfort zone on this one as the premise seems so engaging. If I am allowed to participate despite being a relative weirdo, I'd be grateful.

I'd argue that some of these soft science positions would be absolutely necessary for maintaining the health and wellbeing of the colonists. Artists, musicians, poets might not have an essential function for maintaining the ship and directly surviving on an alien word, But they'd be needed for creating a sense of shared culture, traditions and a means of inspiring beauty, stimulating pleasure, and essentially cultivating spirit. A purely clinic environment doesn't exist even in military naval ships, chaplains, marching bands, psychologists are needed for moral support.

As far as a 'leadership class' yes i totally agree there is a social flaw in an exclusive group groomed for purely leadership. But like you said, It could happen. And given that Project Exodus is funded by people with motives and intensions, having a caste of people that enforce sponsor goals makes sense. Though one of thing I'd like to explore in this RP, is the fact that the colonists are free to do whatever they want, create and make whatever rules they desire to. There is no one from Earth that can actually enforce anything. Whatever system or rules you guys come up with will be what happens. Totalitarian dictatorship, breeding program, monarchy, democracy, technocracy, whatever happens, happens.

I think I'd be up for option 2, a first contact encounter could be very fun for the colonists to deal with. Option 1 would just have too much implications for world building that I'd rather not have to think about lol. But I do think that having us encounter aliens and deal with what that entails in terms of first contact protocols and realizing humans aren't alone in the universe would be very fun. That said, I'd like to wait on having an event like this happening, focusing on the initial awakened colonists and what they are doing on the ship and what not.

I'm actually interest in this. Open for players, right? Also, how many chars are allowed?
Yep yep! As of now, I'd like us to have one character each. But when we start roleplaying, it doesn't have to be too long before a second wave of colonists are awakened.

I also intend to have someone in the youth program 😊. Though I'm gonna wait and see what everyone else is tentatively planning before I deep dive and figure out the details. I imagine if there is no player that is interested in training a youth, you'd have to have EVE train your character in whatever subject your interested.

1. I think most of it would be apparent. It would have to do with how much genetic diversity a person has, which would affect the genetic health of an individual and allow for the person to be a good candidate for having many children. Beyond that, IQ, high fertility, symmetry, fitness, medical records would all be within the criteria.
2. Technology wise, the engine is going to pretty dang advanced considering It essentially has infinite power. And I imagine non organic molecular 3-D printers will be common, though you'd still need the molecular ingredients to create an object (can't make something from nothing). Artificial gravity, genetic engineering, would be rather advanced. We'll figure out the rest as we go, but we aren't in Star Trek where we have teleporters or can create food from nothing.
3. I think Real pictures and realistic art would both be acceptable. Avoid cartoons and undetailed anime art since we are going for a mature feeling to this.

And bingo yes, there are agenda's. And quite frankly I'd be perfectly happy if your character has secret agendas.

This sounds like something I'd certainly be interested in, as long as there's a chance for some love and/or passion along the way! I particularly like the idea of something story driven where characters have their own agendas!

If it's not too much trouble, I wanted to be a villian character or some kind of sexual anti-hero girl. Just an antagonistic force. My inital character concept is a spoiled rich girl that wants to fuck her way to the top leadership.
