Lucio, the young prince of Arden walked toward the arena. There were men supposedly lined up to try their shot at becoming his bodyguard, his guardian. The prince had high expectations, as would anyone. "What is it looking like right now?" He asked, he and his escorts begining to go up several stoned stairs until they reached an area high enough for him to see. "Well?"

"There are quite a number of people fighting ferociously. But most interesting, I see that there is at least one female which is showing excellent skill."

"A woman?" Lucio's fingertips rose to his chin. "I don't know if a girl can defend the prince of Arden. It's a big task to ask a local girl."

"She is far from average sir. She is beating down all of her opponents quite quickly too."

That girl had been doing fine. Until now. Four guys were going against her, attacking in spots that they should not have, though she was doing pretty well with keeping them from harming her. The plated armor she had been wearing fell off as two of the men fell back, though she knew that even if she managed to beat everyone there, she would still not make the cut to work for the Prince.

Her eyes saddened then widened when she felt someone grab her ankles, holding her in place as one of the men that she had left standing charged at her, aiming to kill. "Such pathetic wild boars like yourself should not have made it this far." she said quietly as she dropped her sword, forfeiting the fight. Her arm wrapped around her side, trying to cover a wound as she kicked the person holding her ankles down, "Scram." she growled as she reached down and grabbed her sword, putting it away then she went on to collect her platted armor. She had been fighting the whole day, she had already done more fighting than an average guard would have done as well.

She walked over to where the prince was at and knelt down, "Your highness..." she said quietly, her face showed the held back pain that her side was bringing her. Though, she wanted to see what the Prince and his escorts would say.

Lucio's head descended slightly, "You may rise." He didn't hide the fact that he was eyeing her. Every curve, angle, decoration and detail on her body. The small blackheads on her nose, the sweat coming from her skin, her eyes, her figure, everything. "You were fighting very bravely. What is your name, I wish to know." He asked calmly, his earing shining as his head motioned for her to rise up.

The girl rose, "I am Kimberly Elizabeth Arian, Your Highness." she said quietly as she stared at the ground, hearing the murmurs of men around her, "Both my father and brother had protected your parents...both died while on duty...I wish to do the same."

"But you are a mere girl! You are meant for mending clothes and cooking food. Not fighting." one of the men shouted, though he had lost to the girl he was yelling at. Surly they would not let a girl join their ranks.

Kim's body tensed slightly as she stood there, trying to stay calm in front of the Prince, though a small noise escaped her lips as her body swayed slightly. The wound she had sustained was finally affecting the young lady's body.

"Silence." He said in his passive voice. "I think I will take her in."

"Impossible!"

"She's a girl, you'll get killed!"

"Just because she beat me doesn't mean that she can protect you prince!"

Lucio's eye glared at the crowds. "I said silence." The crowd did as it was told.

Lucio turned towards his four most trusted men, all older, well-experienced knights much like Kimberly's father.

"Gentlemen... the five of us will select. For, or against. I will be overruled if my men believe it is best. So let's have it. I vote for her service."

A bald headed man with shining armor and a pike nodded, "If my prince believes it so, I shall vote for her as well."

A second officer stepped up, armor masking his facial features. "The female fights like a dragon, but this is no post for women, I am sorry, but men protect women, not the other way around."

The third seemed to be the youngest of the guards. "I don't want to be responsible for a girl getting hurt. You have our thanks for your attempts, but we should not give this post to you. Please understand."

The last guard stood the tallest, a heavy axe on his back which he swung with ease. "Your father and brother will not be forgotten by our kingdom's history. Your path is not to die by servitude. Your path should be to provide our kingdom with sons who may inherit their courage and serve our army. I stand against it. I am sorry."

Lucio watched his men react and closed his eyes when he heard his final guard rule against. "Hmph..." He turned and started walking away, obviously upset.

The third guard moved towards her and touched her injury. "Go and get a medic. I think she is injured quite seriously."

Her eyes closed, "I understand. My father would have been against it as well..." she said quietly when it came down to the end. Her face had paled and once Lucio had walked off she fell to her knees. She was trying to think about how she could get in. Her brother had some armor that could hide her features and it was plain enough so that it would not cause any suspicion. When the third guard came up to her, she stood up, "I am quite alright..." she murmured quietly. "I better get home and clean the house...or whatever I am suppose to do."

"What house you little runt? The last time I checked, you were on your own, too rebellious to land a job to keep your hut." a man nearby said calmly, "And no man wants you. You scare them all away. Your only hope was to get a position as a guard...so now, you have nothing." he added bitterly.

Kim turned to him before she looked away and slowly started to walk away. Clearly in pain of many kinds. She needed to get her brother's armor before it was too late. The man was right. The position was the only hope she had of having an income and probably a healthy life.

Lucio sat in his private chamber, his hands held together as his guards followed after Kim left.

"Guys... I hope you made the right decision. That woman had some serious promise." He said quietly. Closing his eyes. "Go back and watch the remaining fighters. Let me know if anyone catches your eyes."

After making it to a small shack that she had called home. She treated her wound and wrapped it before she carefully redressed and cut her hair, changing her appearance. She had lost her feminine look, even her face seemed different as she got up, grabbing her practice blade, she set back out to the gathering, now going under the name of Johnathan. When she arrived, no one seemed to know her. She was a stranger to them.

The third guard which had returned to her to ask her if she needed help with her wounds was gathering the last circle of fighters to compete. "Alright. Is there absolutely anyone else who would like to enter? This is the last circle we will have, and your last chance to work for Arden's prince, Lucio."

She stepped up to the circle, "I want to join." she said calmly, changing her voice to a more masculine sound as she kept her hands at her side. The only person she could think of that had a chance of recognizing her was the Prince himself, who she highly doubted would say anything. After all, he wanted her to protect him; though she was sure it might have been something else.

The third guard looked over at her and smiled. "Nice armor. Come on in then. I will back away and the free for all will commence. Please be courteous and do not kill others unless it's absolutely inevitable." He said, backing away quite a bit. "Feel free to start at this point!"

She went into the circle and when he said that they could start, the whole group just rushed at each other, but she stayed back and watched as a few people ran at her. She was able to send them back as she just stood there, only moving slightly. "Pathetic. My grandmother can fight better than you. And she is dead." she said quietly as she slowly headed into the group as it started to thin. She fought whoever charged her and they were always falling to the ground, choosing not to get up.

In less than ten minutes, Kim had beaten down and outlasted all of the men in the final circle. The third guard came over with a smile, his blade at his side. "Excellent work lad! What is your name?" He asked, looking back to where he'd bring Kim to have her speak with the remaining three guards and Lucio.

She sighed once the men had fallen and she returned the blade to it's sheath before she turned to the guard, "My name is Johnathan...Johnathan Delany." she said calmly as she turned to help a man near her up. He was one of the last ones that had fallen, "Nice fight. It was only mere luck that I was able to make you fall." she said quietly.

"You move so smoothly." Said the fighter, holding his head after she helped him. "I am beaten."

The third guard smiled. "John was it...? Mind if I call you that? Come with me." He said, starting to walk on. "Come along boy. We don't have all evening."

She nodded at the man, "Years of practice I guess." she said with a shrug before she followed the guard quickly, "Yes...John is alright. It saves time." she said quietly as she stayed near the man before she took her helmet off and enjoyed the fresh air on her face.

The third guard led her into one of the towers, and up many flights of stairs, turning back to look at her from time to time.

Eventually he entered a large room where Lucio was sitting, looking out of the window as his other guards simply stood at attention. "Prince Lucio... I feel that I've found the most eligable person from all of the circles. He easily worked his way through some tough opposition. He was hardly touched, and his movements resemble a true hero.

Lucio turned in their direction, his violet hair covering one of his eyes. His face seemed feminine. "What is your name, boy..." He said quietly, approaching her to get a better look.

She had followed the guard quietly and without saying a word. And she was able to keep up, despite the fact that she still had not recovered fully from the wound she had recieved as herself and with the extra fighting.

When they reached the Prince and he turned to her, she bowed, "My name is Johnathan Delany Your Highness." she said quietly as she looked at the ground, she was afraid that her body would betray her if she looked up at him.

"Johnathan. Rise." He said, turning towards his guards and back at her. "Do you... have a female sibling living in my country? Johnathan..." He asked directly, his guards slightly confused as to why he'd ask such a personal and irelevant question to a man he just met.

He shook his head as he rose, "No Your Highness, I am an only Child. Both Parents are dead." she said quietly, hoping that he did not notice who she truly was, or that he would not tell the guards if he knew. He had seemed to be studying her when she was herself, and she knew that he'd probably be able to pick out a few similarities.

"I see." He looked back at his guards. "I like this man. I want him to be my guard. I can tell he is a fighter. He seems obedient enough."

He turned back to Kimberly. "Would you give your life for me? Or protect it with everything you offer? Do you promise to follow my word... in cruelty, nobility, or anything in between? Do you promise to sever under me and adhere to my every request so long as you live..."

She nodded, "I will Your Highness...and if I fail to protect you in anyway or if I fail to obey you...I ask that the most severe punishments be taken on me." she said quietly yet seriously as she looked at him.

Lucio nodded. "Stand up and walk amongst my men. You are a welcome defender, and I will put my life in your hands." He said, turning around and leaving to his private chamber. "Guards, make sure my bodyguard is well fed and cleaned. I want him in best shape before he starts his duties tomorrow."

She nodded as she watched him leave before she turned to the window, "May I have a tour? I really wish to know where I am going in this place." she asked quietly as she turned to the guards with a calm, emotionless face. She was happy on the inside, but she was afraid that she would act too feminine if she rejoiced physically.

The third guard stepped up and smiled at her. "Surely. I'll be taking care of that. At the same time we'll be making sure that you are cleaned and fed, although you managed to beat those men down with the slightest effort." He grinned and shoved her shoulder. "Take a load off. We are all humans here. We serve our prince with the utmost love and respect. We'd take an arrow to the head, eye, chest or even... " he whispered, "to our cocks." He chuckled. "Just kidding about the last part." He started to walk, exiting the chamber. "Guards, I'm going to give Johnathan a tour. Standby for Lucio's orders."
