He watched carefully as her expression went from confused, angry, then to sad. The fact that she was still capable of such emotions was enough proof to him that his assumption was right. â??Iâ??m sorry if I upset you,â? he apologized. Even if she didnâ??t appear as infuriated with him as he was afraid sheâ??d be, he still knew the magnitude of his actions. After all, there was no lower blow than bringing up a dead loved one- especially of that loved one was someone she was about to marry- someone she was willing to spend the rest of her life with. But sheâ??d have to admit to her act sooner or later. As strong-willed as she was, even the toughest of people had to be themselves at some point.

â??You miss him,â? he muttered, shifting his hand to the top of her had and ruffling her cap a bit, knowing itâ??d mess up her hair underneath. Desya gave her a reassuring smile, though his tone and features remained the same otherwise. â??Youâ??re a soldier now, but youâ??re still a softie.â?

Senka continued to look down. She heard his apology but said nothing in reply. It was not fair of him to do that to her, even if he was trying to get her to talk to him or whatever his purpose was. She remembered his face clearly in her head. they had always been smiling and laughing with each other. Nothing seemed to ever get under their skin.

She heard him say that she missed him. "Of course I do" she said in quite whisper. He felt his hand on the top of her head, ruffling her cap. He knew it annoyed her when it did that. She looked at him when he spoke and said once more that she was a softie. She looked at him and seemed to grin the slightest little bit.

He knew that it he hit a weak spot by bringing up the engagement ring and her late fiancé. It wasnâ??t like he was doing it out of malice- it was the opposite. Desya was only making sure that she wouldnâ??t forget her old self- her real self, actually. War changed people and although things would never be the same, he wanted to keep all the people close to him as untouched by the effects of battle as possible.

Desya was glad that she didnâ??t get too upset- for both Senkaâ??s sake and for his. â??Why donâ??t you help me scout out the area before it gets too dark?â? He offered, pausing only to add, â??If youâ??re not still mad at me, that is.â? Of course, there was only so much they could do by looking at a map, but it gave them something to do. Plus, he didnâ??t want to have to read the thing by flashlight later tonight.

Senka looked at him as he spoke. She looked down before getting up and said "Yeah...thats probably a good idea, lets get ready, I'll let the colonel know that we are leaving soon than the departure time" she said walking off to her own tent to get ready.

First she made her way to the Colonel's office. She informed him they would be leaving earlier than the time they had given becouse it would be easier for them to set up in the day than at night. He approved and informed their transport of the decision. She then headed back to her own tent where she changed out of her everyday uniform and into her combat one.

It wasn't very different to the one she wore, sides the camouflage texture and the lack of trench coat with it. It was made of much thicker material to keep the cold out. She got ready and the walked over to her desk where she placed on her belt two hand grenades for when things got really sour and a hand gun with a extra magazine of ammo. She then righted her self in the mirror, not that it would matter anyway, but it was kind of ritual. She pulled out the chain from underneath her shirt and looked at it again before she put it away and walked out of her tent. All she had to do now was got to the armory to pick up her sniper rifle.

Desya remained for a moment to stretch his arms slightly before standing up and heading off to his quarters. There wasnâ??t much to do. He pulled off his hat, finding it much too warm inside to wear it at the moment. He opened the small trunk that contained his uniform, supplies, and a spare personal item or two and pulled out his overcoat, grimacing slightly. Ugh, he hated having to lose sleep during missions. Their target was going to die anyway, so couldnâ??t they be a little nice and hurry up with it?

He pulled the coat over his shoulders, buttoning it before grabbing his belt and tightening it around his waist. He stuffed his handgun into its holster as well as a combat knife and a flash grenade. He was a specialist in CQC combat- somehow, fighting face-to-face came easier to him than sniping. The male took off his boots, putting on an extra pair of socks to ensure that his toes would not get affected by frostbite. He then grabbed a small backpack, which he threw night vision and thermal goggles into. Heâ??d get water and rations later- although they rarely ate during a mission and they could drink the snow if they got thirsty, it was better to be over-prepared than not at all.

Once ready, he put his boots back on and threw on his cap before exiting the tent, gaze shifting to find Senka. She was probably on her way to the armory, if anything.

Senka was on her way to the armory. She walked inside and picked up her rifle and some extra ammo for it. She never really needed extra ammunition but you never knew what could happen. She then walked out side only to she him heading in the same direction. She looked at him and said "I'll wait near the truck" she said and began to head off to the front gates of the camp.

She walked up and lent back on the back of the truck waiting for him to show. She looked at the sky, It had stopped snowing at least. Many god would be kind to them this night. She sighed and continued to wait. She looked at their driver and he seemed somewhat annoyed about the early start of this mission. He groaned a little as he took a drag of his cigarette before tossing it on the ground and stomping it out which was rather unnecessary really becouse the snow would have put it out anyway.

She looked up when she saw foot steps approaching, he had caught up with her now.

Desya gave a small nod in response to her before branching off to go to the mess tent. The servers usually gave him some trouble when he asked for extra rations, but after insisting that he was going off on a mission and not trying to sneak some extra food, he managed to get enough for two daysâ?? worth of food, assuming they ate as much as they normally did. Stingy bastards. They knew full well that missions could easily last longer than that. Oh well.

The male shook his head slightly as he slung the pack over his shoulder and trudged through the snow to the truck with the disgruntled driver. Really, he shouldnâ??t complain. Leaving earlier was hardly a heavy price as opposed to having to drive at night. He gave a small wave to his partner, although it really wasnâ??t necessary. He passed her to climb into the back of the truck, tossing the pack onto the ground and sitting down with his back leaning against one of the walls. He reached into his pocket to withdraw his small tin, pulled out a cigarette, and lit up. Ahh, much better.

Senka saw him approach her with a wave. She gave him a small wave back before turning and climbing into the back of the truck. She put her own pack on the ground before she said to the driver "We are ready to go". He grunted in response and got into the front seat. He started up the engine and began to head out of the gates of the camp.

Senka looked over at at him as he lit up a cigarette she grimaced and seemed to shake her head slightly she just sighed to her self as the truck drove down the road. She looked up at the ceiling and thought for a moment. She thought a little about the mission and what they were going to to before looking back at him and sighing.

It would be an hour or so before they arrived at the drop off zone.

Desya saw the grimace she made when he lit his cigarette. He inhaled the tobacco, purposely exhaling it in the opposite direction so she would breathe in as little smoke as possible. Of course, there was only so much he could do with smoke in an enclosed area like this. "Aw, don't give me that look," he groaned, frowning a bit. "I won't be able to have another for lord knows how long and you know how I get when I can't smoke." After all, they could barely risk the smoke vapor from their breath to be seen on a sniping mission, let alone that from a cigarette or any sort of fire. Thank god he wasn't the one aiming the rifle three days into the mission. His hands would shake so bad from withdrawal that his accuracy percentage would be in the negative digits.

He didn't read the report- he had almost no need to. His job was to look around and tell her when someone's coming. "So, what sort of guy are we aiming for this time?"

Senka heard him speak and she said "yeah yeah, whatever fine" she said sighing and leaning back against the walls of the truck. She looked at him when he asked who that were going after and she said "His name is Colonel Lisert, he's in charge of the 4th German regiment" she said sighing to her self.

"They want us to kill him with out being seen, as always" she said.

The male gave a victorious, little grin when she permitted him to smoke. He wasn't sure what he would do if she persisted to make him put it out. Of course, he didn't want to blatantly disrespect her and ignore the request but hell, he wanted to have his smokes.

"Mmn, sounds simple enough," he muttered, giving a small shrug, "Another notch on your scope, I suppose?" After all, she had so many recorded kills that it was a wonder she wasn't higher in the ranks- or transferred to the special forces, at least.

Senka looked at him and said "Yeah, but he lives in a large manor house, the base of his operations and we'll only really be able to hide in the forest" she said with a sigh to her self. She looked at him and "We'll have to find a decent spot so that I can see through the windows of his house" She said.

"Ahh, a house call," he muttered. Well, at least that was a little different. Usually, they'd have to set up as a cover during battles and on solo missions, it was usually just waiting for the unfortunate troop to pass through. Desya managed a small smirk before teasing, "I bet you I can get you a great view of his bathroom. Lisert sounds like he's a real looker and at least you'll be able to get a nice view of him before you blow his brains out."

Senka looked at him and just rolled her eyes and said " No thanks, I'd rather not" she said with a sigh. She looked at him and said "but, if thats what floats your boat, then feel free to indulge your self" she said with a cheeky smirk on her face. She looked outside for a moment and then back at him. She sighed a little to her self and looked at the roof of the truck. She really hoped they would not be out their for days on end. Last they had a really long mission, when she got back to the camp she ended up with a fever and had to be nurse back to health. She hated showing signs of weakness, it felt a little alien to her since she had enough of being weak and useless when she could do nothing to save her family in the massacre that had torn her town apart. It was the reason she was so cold. She figured it she didn't get close to anyone, she would never have to get hurt, however Desya was a little speed bump in that plan.

Desya chuckled at her response and said, "Eh, you're probably right. Somehow, men in the higher-ups always manage to be on the chubby side." He even grinned at her next comment, even if it was a jab at his sexuality. He was glad that she was finally showing signs of her old self- not like he had ever witnessed it, of course. He had only met Senka after her transformation. At least, he supposed she was showing signs of what he thought was her old self. Either way, it was nice that she was finally opening up. She was a good person and it would be a pity to keep that side of her locked away forever. "I'm not the type who fawns from afar," he joked, playing around with her comment, "Pity. If we weren't about to kill him, I'd walk up to him and say that he looks like a movie star."

Senka looked and him and scoffed and said "Sure and have the entire German armed guard on your ass in about 10 seconds flat. It would be a tragic ending for that story of love and passion" she said sarcastically. The head line would be "Love un-reciprocated" she said putting her hands up i the air and making hand gestures to signify a giant billboard sign in lights. She smirked and the chuckled a little to her self before she said "However in all seriousness, don't allow your fawning to compromise our mission"

Desya gave a crooked grin. "A tale of star-crossed lovers, cut down in their prime" he said dramatically, "The tragic story of Romeo and Juliet." The soldier took a deep drag from his cigarette, sending a playful glance Senka's way. "When have I ever let anything get in the way of the mission?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow. Sure, he acted foolish... really foolish. Sometimes, he'd wonder how the hell he managed to stay alive so long with such a laid-back attitude. However, whenever the real shit went down, he knew to get serious- and that was all that mattered.

Senka looked at him and said "Just making sure you can resist your primal urges" she said with a smirk. She sighed a little and said "I hope this dosen't go one forever, sitting around in the snow for a week isn't my cup of tea" she said. She looked up at the roof and closed her eyes. For next our or so as they drove she spent the time resting for a bit. the mission sounded somewhat challenging. When it was time to get out, the truck rumbled to a stop. "We're here" said the drive. Seka stood up and said "Lets go" and hoped out the back of the truck, looking around for a moment, just to be sure they were safe.

The male rolled his eyes at the comment, "Right, right. And if a lady friend of his comes into view, I hope you can resist your own urges, too."
By the time the truck came to a stop, he had long finished his cigarette. He flicked the butt into a corner of the back, not really caring about littering. THe driver had given them grief about leaving early and it was already littered with wrappers and - was that a grenade pin? Desya couldn't help but wonder how that all worked out. Once they were no longer in motion, he picked up his bag and carried it on his shoulders before hopping out. "Here we go, again," he sighed, adjusting to the sudden chill of the wind. Not like he hated his job, but these missions tended to get a bit boring.

Senka looked at him and and said "You know which way the house is right" she said asking him, it was his job to know anyway. She moved out of the way and truck began to go aback the way it came. Soon they were left alone. She looked around and said "Let get out of the open road anyway" she said heading for the trees on the side of the road. She began to walk through the trees and looked around, searching the area with her eyes.

"Of course," he replied. Desya had looked the file over before handing it over to Senka but just to be safe, he kept the map for good measure. He pulled it out from his pocket, checking it over before putting it back away. "Three and a half miles... that's not too bad," the male muttered, following her out of the road and into the woods. If they were lucky, they'd be able to get to their point and set up before dark. He looked around for a fallen fur branch and once he managed to acquire one, picked it off the ground and began erasing their tracks as they walked. Had it still been snowing, they wouldn't have to worry about their tracks since nature would cover it up for them.

Senka continued to move forwards through the forest. She put the file away in her pack and continued to move through the forest. She kept an eye out as he covered their tracks. She then pointed and said "Lets move to the side of the hill she" said. She his house was in the mountains surrounded by forests and slopes, it would be easy to find a good spot" she said.

"Okay," he muttered in response, following her path for a bit until they were far off the road. After a short while, he handed her the branch. "Here, cover up our tracks and let me lead. I'm pretty sure I've got a good grasp of the area."
Once that was said and done, he turned back ahead and began to pick up the pace a bit, slightly anxious to find a good sniping point before the day grew dark. Plus, they had no idea who are what were in these woods and he didn't want to risk getting caught. Once they got set up, it would be less likely for them to get caught- that is, before they actually fired that bullet. Damn gun had to make so much noise, it would be suicide if they lingered where they were. They'd be found out in a second. Of course, they didn't have to worry so much if they were in a thunderstorm or during battle.

It took about two hours, but signs of their target's housing was beginning to show up. Several times, he caught glimpses of guards in the distance, which they skillfully snuck past and there were half a dozen trip wires and other booby traps that had to be avoided. Finally, the mansion was in sight and Desya gave a small grin- and oh, would you look at that. A there was a ledge in the wood about a hundred yards away to the left of the house that would be the perfect spot to settle in. There was even a decent amount of underbrush and he was sure that they could build up the snow in a way to cover themselves up more. He pointed in the direction of the spot, looking back to Senka. "How's that?"

Senka nodded and she took the stick from him and began to cover their tracks with it. She followed behind him quietly as they moved about the area. She looked around and kept extra quite when they had to pass by guards. Her anticipation was growing as they began to get closer and closer to the house. She kept a look out for a good spot as they moved.

When he pointed out the spot to her she nodded and said "Thats fine". She began to make her way over to it. She then lay down and moved back a little under the over grown bush and looked at him and said " Do we need to do anything else. or are we just going to hide under the bush? She asked him bringing around her rifle.

"I'm pretty sure it's fine the way it is. Plus, this place is teeming with guards and if we move around too much stuff, it may rouse suspicion," He replied. Of course, the odds of the enemy finding a few out-of-place branches were slim to none, but Desya was very careful about things like that. In past experiences, he had very nearly become a POW on several occasions and that frightened him into being cautious on the small details. Plus, who knows how long they'd be out here? Eventually, someone would have to catch on.

"If you can get a good view from that place, I can be spotter first," Desya offered. If there was no need for him to have to look around for better sniping angles, why not take the first shift on spying while they were still fresh?
