Colder than the Snow ((me and Houdini))

He pulled off his gloves and rubbed his hands together for a moment for warmth. "I think I'm getting to be that way too. A few more days out here with you, and maybe I'll be able to take the cold like you" he said with a laugh. As the walked on through the morning, it seemed that only the constant movement kept his hands and feet from just freezing and falling off.

Senka looked at him and said "I expect Germany is a lot warmer than Russia even in the winter" she said looking at him. She finished off her food and continued to walk. Naturally she was a lot more cautious of her footing from now on. She didn't want to be dangling off the edge of a cliff.

"That's true," he replied, looking up at the sun as it reached its mid-afternoon position. Just then, he heard the roar of a vehicle. They were deep within the woods, but he looked down to see a jeep riding down on a ridge below them. "Get down," he whispered to Senka. As they crouched in the woods, he saw a jeep with two German soldiers slowly chug along the ridge, hoping they were out of sight of the soldiers.

Senka got down low with him. She watched as the jeep moved down the road. She pulled out pistol he had given them and pulled back on the safety, just in case they were seen as they drove past. He might not want to be traitor, but she would defend her self.

He gulped as he saw Senka pull out her pistol. Although it wasn't a pleasant thought, he would fire a weapon at a German before being captured and executed, as well. Her move was a grim reminder of the reality they found themselves in. Fortunately, they were silent, their breathing drowned out by the jeep's engine, and the soldiers passed without detecting them. "That was close," he smiled and whispered to her after it was clear. "A couple more good hours, and we'll be safe in Umkirch. It's a larger town, bigger than the last. We'll be able to hide there safely."

Senka sighed to her self in relief as they passed with out seeing them. She put the safety back on the pistol and she put away. She nodded to him and said "We should be more careful from now on, it looks like they are patrolling the area" she said getting up slowly, and keeping low for now. "Lets go" she said beginning to walk slowly.

He nodded in agreement, continuing cautiously in the direction they had been headed, looking around him towards the distance at all times. Soon, the beautiful view of a small city nestled in a mountain valley came into view below them down the mountain. The lights of the city filled the sky as dusk approached. "As much as you seemed at home in that cave, maybe we can stay at a real inn tonight. There are enough here that the soldiers can't check them all. If all goes well, we could be in Switzerland by tomorrow night."

Senka followed him. She was relived to see the lights of the town. She looked at him and said "Good". She then began to move down the slope of the mountain slowly down into the valley. She made sure she kept her footing as she did as the slope was quite steep.

Josef leaned backwards a little to steady himself as their path started to slope downwards. "Be careful," he said, not wanting to directly mention the previous day's incident, but he did keep his hand ready to quickly extend to Senka should there be any mishaps. Once they got down the hill, they tried to quietly merge in with the people walking down the street on the outskirts of town. "Let's head towards the center," he suggested. "I'll bet we'll find a nice place to stay there."

Senka looked at him and said "Alright, lets go" she said moving slowly through the crowd , following the locals who seemed to know where they were going. It did not take long for them to reach the center. Sure enough there was a selection of about 5 different inns in the town center. She looked at him and said "Which one do you think?" she asked him.

"Let's go into this one," he said, pointing to a brick building advertising "rooms for hire" on the front. It looked well kept and large enough to have about 10 rooms. As he held the door for Senka and followed her inside, a large woman stood at the desk. "I'm Gunter Heinz," he said with a cordial smile, not wanting, of course, to give his real name. "I'd like to have a room for myself, and my wife, err... Elisa." He pulled his money out of his pocket. He had taken all he could get together when he'd left the base, and still had a sizeable amount left. The woman handed them a large key, and pointed them towards the room. "Breakfast will be served tomorrow morning at 7:00," she said gruffly. Josef took the key, and led the way towards their room for the night.

Senka kept quite as he got them a room. She followed him up the stairs and inside to there room. She put her pack down and sighed to her self and took of her large coat as the place was quite warm inside. She looked at the room. It was pretty plain, but it was better than a cave, or prison cell.

Josef set his things down as well. Although modest, the room had a large bed that looked quite comfortable, especially to someone who had spent the last night on a rock. Also, unlike the room in the other town, this inn had a separate room, which once he opened the door, found it to be a bathroom with a tub. Maybe they would finally get to clean up, he thought hopefully. "I'm starving," he announced once he'd surveyed the surroundings. "I am running low on rations in my pack, but I do still have some money left. Maybe I should go buy something for us to eat here. It would be nice to go to a restaurant, but I think it might be too dangerous to sit together in public."

Senka looked at him and she nodded. She then said "Why don't you just buy some fruit and bread or something, nothing to fancy" she suggested to him. She sat down for a moment on the bed. She looked at him and said "Do you want me to come?"

"Sure, fruit and bread sounds great," he agreed. The mention of it made him feel even hungrier. "You can come if you want. But I don't mind going myself and bringing it back if you want to relax," he offered. "Don't worry I won't eat any without you," he said with a laugh.
It was funny discussing these small things with her like what they would eat that night. He trusted her completely. Although a mere week ago, they were enemies, he knew that if he left, she would be there waiting for him when he got back. It was strange in a way to think about.

Senka looked at him and said "I'll stay then if you don't need me" she said. Once he was gone, she sighed to her self and laid back on the bed. She then looked at that other door in the room. A bath did sound nice right now. She then stood up and walked inside, closing the door behind her. She began to fill the bath with warm water and as she did she slowly began to take off her clothes, folding them up before she put them on the banister to the side. She put her dog tags and her gold chain with the ring on it on top before she stepped into the warm water that soothed her tired muscles. She smiled to her self and sank a little lower in to the water, sighing in relief.

Josef left, once Senka decided against going. Since they were right in the town center, he didn't have much trouble finding a warm loaf of bread, some oranges, apples, and peaches. They didn't look the freshest, since it wasn't the season, but they were okay. It couldn't have been more than fifteen minutes, before he headed back into the room, and towards the bathroom. He had to use it, and he wasn't used to living with a woman now, after several years of living alone. Without thinking, he flung the door open, only to be right upon Senka bathing in the tub, her red hair draped on the water. He gasped, looking away out of modesty, but not before having seen her milky white breasts, and pink nipples, floating just beneath the surface of the water. "I.... I'm... uhh," he gasped, not being about to get the words out, as he backed out the doorway.

Senka had not expected anyone to fling open the door. She had her eyes closed, just enjoying her self when she heard it. Her eyes snapped open and she cried out for a moment, her arms instantly covering her self. Her cheeks turned right red. She watched as he stammered and stepped out of the bathroom. She saw the door close and she moved her arms away but her cheeks remained red. She couldn't remember being so embarrassed in her life. After that she began to wash her self with some soap and a sponge, getting rid of the dirt on her from travel. She washed her hair, which was oily from not having been washed in about two weeks. She got out, all clean and dried her hair and body with some towels before she got dressed again. She opened the door slowly a blush on her face as she did.

As he backed out and closed the door, Josef dropped his head down into his chest, sinking onto the bed, and laying down with a pillow over his face. He wished he could just hide and disappear in there. He couldn't believe he'd been so careless, so rude, to Senka. But at the same time, he couldn't shake the image of her smooth, pale skin, and fit, shapely body. It aroused desired in him that he'd forgotten had existed. Beneath all the winter clothes she'd worn since he met her, he hadn't realized she had such a beautiful, sexy body. As he finally heard the door open, he ventured a glance from under the pillow in her direction. He sat up on the bed. "Senka...," he started. Looking at her, even clothed, she looked amazing with her wet red hair and pretty features. He couldn't help but feel disgusting with a week's dirt still caked on him. "I'm really sorry, I don't know what I was thinking. I'm so used to living alone, I guess."

Senka saw him on the bed with the pillow over his head. She watched as he sat up and apologized to her. She replied by saying "It's alright...it was just an accident, lets just forget that it ever happened...lets just make sure it dosen't happen again". The light blush still marked her face as she spoke, the embarrassment still there. She looked at him and said "I guess you would like a bath your self, why don't you go and relax as well for a bit" she said to him.

He sat up and nodded at her kind acceptance of his apology. He'd expected her to want to tear his head off, but evidently, she was changing, just as he was. "That's nice of you to say. It was an accident that shouldn't have happened." He gestured towards the food on the table. "There's bread and fruit, like you were hoping for," he said a little sheepishly. He saw that they were both embarrassed about it, and the mention of a bath sounded delightful. "Yes, I'll take a bath, too. I'm sure I need it. I guess you can come in and get me back if it would make you feel better," he said laughing a little.

((Like your new profile pic. ^^ It's quite hot. =P ))

((hehe, lol, Thankyou ^_^))

Senka looked at the bread and fruit he had brought and she smiled and said "Oh good". She looked back at him and let out a small chuckle and said "I think I'll pass on that, go have your bath and relax" she said smiling a little at him. She sat down in a chair infront of the food and began to eat some of the bread.

Hungry as he was, he headed to the bath first, turning on the water and letting it fill with warm, clean, water. Once he stripped his dirty clothes off and stepped in, the week's worth of dirt and grime came off almost immediately. It felt nice to relax for a while there in the warmth. All of his sore muscles seemed to be soothed there in the tub. After soaping up and washing his hair and entire body, he stood up, amazed at how dirty the water got just from his own grime. Clean and refreshed, he dried off, ran his fingers through his hair, and put on a set of clean clothes he'd brought in, before opening the door and heading back into the main room. "That was nice," he said, sitting next to her at the table and picking up a peach.

Senka was in the process of eating an apple when he came out. She watched as he sat next to her chose a peach. She looked at him and said "I know, It's nice, isn't it" she said biting into her apple with a cruch. She looked at him and said "When shall we leave tomorrow?" she asked,

He took two delicious bites from his peach, glad that, at least, things didn't seem to be awkward, even though he'd seen Senka completely naked. "I don't know," he responded. "It will be tough to reach Switzerland tomorrow even if we leave early. And this is a decent, relaxing place. I wonder if we should have a nice breakfast here and conserve energy, maybe then leave in the late morning. What do you think?" he asked, picking up the loaf of bread and breaking off a piece.
