Taking a second to let the words sink in, Caden also attempted to process his own feelings and thoughts of the past few weeks. Raphael had been considerate and thoughtful and...wonderful. But the blond had to wonder how much of that would stay in the long term. And he had to, quickly, decide if he was willing to risk being hurt and disappointed once more to find out.

Something in his brain switched on and while the doubts didn't go away, the positive feelings for Raphael that had never gone away in the first place came to the forefront. And before he could think about it or change his mind. Caden leaned forward, brushing his lips over the redhead's lightly.

Raphael paused when their lips connected, even just slightly, they still touched. Chills ran through his body and the vampire found himself leaning closer to Caden. Brushing his lips back along his before he pulled back an inch to keep himself at bay. "I promise to you, Caden. I will spend every moment proving to you that I am worth it. That I've grown. That I deserve you." he whispered, brushing his lips along his once more. 'I don't want to ever hurt you again. I don't want to lose you ever."

It had been a long time since Raphael's promises had meant anything to him, and Caden knew that it would be a long time before they did again. But that was a discussion for another time. For now, he just nodded nearly imperceptibly and pressed their mouths together more tightly, gasping a bit at the electric sensation that ran through his lips and chest and stomach as he did so. Even kissing Uriel, which was amazing, didn't compare to this.

Raphael pressed back into Caden's form. His hand lifting to rest at the bottom of his chin. Pulling him closer as he turned so that he was facing him better. His eyes slipped closed and oh how he yearned for this man's kiss. His body sparked with every connection of their flesh. Sizzling, tingling, with anticipation of the blond's flesh against his. Nothing ever could compare to how he felt whenever Caden was with him. Whenever Caden touched him, kissed him, loved him. He was undeniably his. Caden may not realize it, or believe it, yet, but Raphael would make sure he knew it soon.

He pressed himself closer, his own hands slipping behind Raphael to pull their bodies impossibly closer. One hand tangled into the back of his hair, holding their lips in the kiss that he'd been desperate to experience for far too long, and the other resting in the middle of his back. The heartache and drama not withstanding, it felt right to be this close to the other man once again.

They kissed for a long moment before the blond pulled away just enough to catch his breath and allow his brain to begin thinking again. His hands, however, didn't move from where they were. "If you break my heart again," he warned, voice barely above a whisper, "I will send Uriel after you. And Rune." Either by themselves were scary. Together? Caden didn't even want to think about it. He leaned forward again and took another kiss from the other man, sighing as he did so.

"We can't have that, now can we?" He whispered, arms sliding around the man's shoulders. Pulling himself closer while his fingers pushed through the blond locks of the man. He had missed this far too much. He really needed to be with him. He never should have left. Oh how he never should have left. He slid onto his torso, ignoring the tears that slid down his cheeks at their embrace, he did not even think about it. All he knew was that he needed this. He needed Caden.

Getting lost in the moment, Caden melded into Raphael's body as he had so many times before. The blond's heart fluttered a bit as he did so. Everything about this was right, no matter what the past told them. For anything to come of this, he had to believe that Raphael had learned from his mistakes and had grown in the time that they had been apart. He wanted to believe that. His lips trailed over to Raphael's cheeks, kissing away the tears as they fell while tightening his grip on the other man.

Raphael leaned forward, his head resting against the other man's, feeling his lips along his cheeks which only caused more tears to pass his lavender eyes, no matter how badly he willed them to stop. "I love you, Caden. I've always loved you." He gripped him tighter, nipping at his ear softly and then kissing down and along his jawline. His heart pounded within his chest, echoing against his ribs and throughout his whole being. His body ached for Caden. He hurt so badly to have the other with him

He carded his fingers through Raphael's hair in a soothing manner. He still felt very strongly for the other man, but to love he had to trust and Caden couldn't trust just yet. But he couldn't deny that sitting there like this with him felt good. For the first time in a very long time, Caden felt whole again. Maybe it was silly, but the blond always felt that Raphael was part of him because he had turned him. It was hard to feel like yourself when part of who you are is missing.

Raphael soon forced his lips away from the other man's, sighing softly and resting his forehead on his chest. His heart raced within his chest and he gripped the front of the man's shirt tightly. "We should stop before it goes too far." He whispered, biting his bottom to keep from pouncing him once more, that and to try and keep the bubbling within his pants from getting too noticeable. "I don't want to ... have you like that until you can trust me again, okay? Even if it's another century, I don't want to." he then lifted his eyes, looking through his lashes at the man.

He nodded, grateful for the gesture. And really, as much as Caden's body ached for that closeness with Raphael again, he knew that taking things slowly was the best bet for them both. The blond leaned in for one more, short kiss before pulling himself away a bit more. It was all too tempting. "Okay. But you have to tell Rune." He grinned at Raphael as he stood from the sofa. More distance and something to drink (non-alcoholic of course) would help him bring his mind back into focus.

He whimpered softly and rested his hands on his groin. "but I like my boybits.' he protested, pouting as he looked up at the male. He slid from the couch and followed to get a glass of water for himself. He then hopped up onto the counter, right leg draping over his left and he sighed softly. "Tomorrow I will. But! You have to let me take you out to a nice dinner."

"Seems like a fair trade, since I'll have to convince not only Uriel but Tanner to not kill you. The least you could do to thank me is buy me dinner." The blond smiled over at the other man, only half kidding. He knew Uriel wouldn't kill Raphael because of the conversations they'd been having over the past few weeks. Tanner, on the other hand... Well Caden could only hope that Relic would be home and able to control him.

Raphael sighed heavily. He pouted his bottom lip out a little more before leaning toward him to kiss his cheek and settled back onto the counter. "thank you ... " he leaned over and kissed his cheek once more, biting his bottom lip a bit more.

Telling Tanner wasn't as bad as he'd imagined it. Though Caden didn't doubt his brother's words that he would help Rune hunt and kill Raphael if the vampire ever broke his heart again. And he had to promise his brother that he would join in the hunt. "It'll be therapeutic for you!" Caden rolled his eyes and scooped up one of the kids that Relic had brought home on their latest trip, nuzzling her soft little cheek a bit. "So...this family. Are they the actual Adam and Eve, populating the entire world?" he asked, only half kidding in a desperate attempt to change the subject.

Raphael shrieked as he ran through the house to the other side. Leaping behind Caden and even going so far as taking up one of the little brunette girls. Holding her up in his own bit of pathetic defense. "NO! You can't hurt me!"

Rune rolled his eyes and scooped the girl up, resting her onto his hip before he kicked the vampire's chest. "No. IF you hurt him again, I'm going to make you beg for death, got it?" He then turned to Caden and the litle one that he was holding. He leaned over to the boy who instantly grabbed onto his face, pulling Rune closer to give him a big kiss on the lips "Oi. None of that. Calder will be pissed." he winked and then took the girl and set her down, though she only clung to his leg with a giggle.

Caden just watched. What else could he do? Besides, this was exactly the reason that he made Raphael tell Rune. With a sigh, the blond handed over the child to his father and turned to check on the redhead behind him. "At least you still have your boy bits?" he offered with a little smile. "And it could have been worse...he could be hormonal and pregnant!"

Raphael sighed softly. "True." he admitted, standing up and then watching as Rune walked off.

A year passed by and things changed a little. Raphael got a job working at Prometheus - if not just by running from Rune and entertaining the kids - but he was actually the Magical Creatures teacher. He enjoyed his job too. The kids were not all that bad. Sure, one questioned why Professor Uriel threw a pumpkin at his head one time, but he just ignored it and moved on without another word.

During the day, Raphael had a dozen roses delivered to Caden with a simple heart card that had 'one year' written inside of it. Making sure he left before Caden, Raphael set everything up in the house. A beautiful candlelit dinner. Uriel - after much bribing and whining - painted a gorgeous beach scene on a sheet for a back drop, with a sun setting and everything. The meal was cooking away in the oven and he even donned a very nice pin striped suit that looked ever so dapper on the man.

The past year had been wonderful. Raphael had proven through his actions that he had changed quite a bit since he had left, and that fact made the blond very happy. And while he knew that the other was planning something for their anniversary, he couldn't be sure what. No one would tell him if they were roped into helping him and Raphael would give no clues, damn him.

The roses made him smile. He sniffed them before setting the vase on his desk to show off. The card was tucked into one of the drawers so that he could see it every time he went looking for something. He was getting a bit flustered just thinking about how happy he was lately.

When he walked into their room after work, Caden stopped and took a good look around. "Raphael?" The backdrop was obviously Uriel's style, which surprised Caden since his friend still didn't like the redhead. Dinner smelled wonderful and as he turned and caught sight of the other man, he couldn't help but smile. He looked beautiful. Moving over to him, he smiled and pressed a little kiss to his lips.

Raphael paused to kiss the other back, smiling happily as he did so. He leaned up and kissed him a little bit more. Slowly settling back onto his feet. "Hello, beautiful." he kissed him again before leading him to the table. He pulled out the chair, ushering him back into the seat and pushing him in before he walked to the stove. "Perfect time for dinner" he stated, getting the nice steaks and potatoes and wax means together on their plates. He then turned and set them down, kissing the man once more and moving to sit across from him. The smile just seemed to be painted onto his mouth, not moving in the least. Caden put up with him for a year. He never got angry with him or seemed to look hurt and that just made him beyond happy.

Caden gripped Raphael's hips tightly as they kissed. He was reluctant to pull away, but really the food smelled wonderful and he was starving... Sitting across from the other man, the blond smiled at him. "How did you have time to do all of this?" he asked, gesturing to everything. "Didn't you have work today?" He was only half teasing, really. It didn't matter too much if Raphael worked, but he had promised Nikkos and Tomias that he would work so he had a commitment to keep. "It looks as good as it smells."

Raphael nodded. "In between classes." He stated, kissing his temple and then sitting across from him once more. He smiled a little more, right leg draping over his left, eyes staying wit hteh other. Oh how he loved him. He smiled warmly and shook his head a few times. "And Uriel helped me." He admitted, shaking his head a little bit, smiling. "The ridicule was worth it, for you."

He laughed. "I'm surprised that he agreed at all, really." In ways, Caden wished that things with Uriel had worked out. His best friend was truly wonderful and always had his best interests at heart. But Raphael was...part of his soul, cliche as that sounded. There was a reason that no other relationships had worked out in the past couple of centuries, and the redhead sitting across from him was that reason. At first, he'd been annoyed by that fact and had hoped that by ignoring it, it would go away. Now, Caden didn't really mind so much. He reached across the table and squeezed Raphael's hand before letting go so that he could eat the amazing meal that had been set before him.

"I only need to buy a new car. It's worth it." he smiled warmly. Giving up his precious car was worth everything to have his lover smiling once more. He happily went into conversation about the day. About everything for the rest of the dinner.

Taking up the plates, he kissed his lips and then set them into the sink before he turned to look at him. He poured another glass of wine for his boyfriend. "Would you like to have dessert now or later, my love?" He asked, head tilted to the side with interest.

He still felt bad about the car, but Raphael wouldn't let him help pay for a new one. The blond shook his head at the thoughts for the time being and enjoyed the meal and the conversation. Occasionally, his thoughts shifted to the relationship itself. It had been a year and the feelings that he'd had for Raphael when they began this (again) had only deepened. While a year ago he knew that he would always love Raphael, the blond felt himself beginning to fall back in love with him.

As they cleaned up the table, Caden was contemplating his next move. He sipped the wine and shrugged a little, chills going down his spine with the term of endearment. He smiled a bit as his glass was set on the counter. Raphael's was then taken and set next to it as well before the blond stepped closer, wrapping an arm around his waist. He kissed the other man, letting their lips linger together for quite some time.
