Text entirely in colors that hurts my eyes to read.
And sadly it's especially prevalent to people that actually take care enough about the RP to put a lot of effort into their posts. I get that it adds flavor, but why pick, say, dark blue that blends into the default background?

This.

Oh My God, this.

I mean, I love the artistry and desire to make the RP cool. But I have trouble reading low-contrast colors, and it turns me off something fierce to hit that.

Also agree with poorly chosen font colours and font sizes.

Another peeve is RP's that seem like they could go on forever without anything ever happening. I need some direction and when that storyline is resolved we can decide whether or not we want to continue with the characters with something else.

I also can't stand it when it seems like every moment of the characters lives have to be played out. Time jumps, people!! In the past I have had RP's where the characters are just sitting around talking about what to have for dinner etc. I need purpose.

I second all pet peeves in this thread, lol.

Also, I don't like when people want to play characters which are half-human, half-elf, half-vampire, half-alien or something ... all in one person. And of course that character has to have all kinds of powers, too. -rolls eyes-
Same with character profiles like: "My character ist innocent, fragile and shy, but also a strong fighter, and always happy, but sometimes really sad and angry. And he hates to submit, but he can be convinced easily." You know what I mean? Just all characteristics at once.

And another thing, I can't stand when people try to force a particular reaction out of me, like, for example, I play a vampire and my partner plays a human. And as soon as our characters meet the human "accidentally" manages to cut his finger or something, in hope to make my vampire bite him or suck his blood.
Or when people tell me their character is rebellious and disobedient, and then in the roleplay he's just overly innocent, cute and submissive, with no fighting spirit at all. @_@

Sounds like Ichigo from Bleach

Several things has been mentioned here, but I'll rehash some stuff

Passive RPing really grinds my gear a lot. It's one thing to want someone to help you set the scene, but it's another thing when the only thing you write is the answer to my character's question, and that's it. They'd write some form of thinking process, but in the end the only thing I get to draw inspiration for my next post was only "Yeah, that sounds about right". I do not mind carrying the plot forward, but if that's what you're going to just post everytime I wrote, I might as well godmod your character and write my own story.

By the same token, I do have to say that some form of Godmodding is rather necessary, especially if you're doing something that's so mundane that you're practically just wasting time. The way RP work is that one person do something, the other reacts, and then the first person reacts to that, which would extend the interaction to an unnecessarily long degree. Of course, communication is key, so I'd usually ask if we can just time skip the RP (mostly only works during 1x1 RP), and skip the mundane details, because you can't just keep talking for hours upon hours, before you run out of things to explore. As long as it's agreed upon, I'm fine with it.

Which brings me to my next peeves, which is complete disregard of time. This is why sometimes I prefer 1x1 to a group RP, because with 1x1 RP, only two people is involved, so if it's necessary, we could agree to time skip some unnecessary parts. In a group RP, you have to contact several people, notify them that a time skip is going to happen (either through sleeping, traveling, or etc.), and pray to the Gods that they agreed to that time skip. This is especially troubling because in a group RP, every character progresses their characters differently, and some are more of the quick-love kind of stuff, and some are the slow burn kind of stuff, so you'd have one pair going at their relationship development vehemently, and cannot be bothered, while the rest is trying their hardest to come up of stuff to do while waiting for that pair to finish so that the time skip can happen (for example, two pair already made promises to meet somewhere tomorrow, or continuing their business tomorrow, while one pair is still talking, and these two would just keep on spawning NPCs and making events happen to rush through the progression).

I am on the slow burn party by the way, which is why I'd prefer if my RP has a proper sense of time progression, because no matter how much we type, if we do not type that time has passed, in the RP world time stood still, and that's detrimental to the slow-burn progression. It's a rule I made for myself, but I usually try to put at least a week in RP time of interaction before taking it to the next level, so progressing one day is important to me.

Anyway, a funny/dreadful story to end

I once got into a group RP in highschool situation, and I got in pretty late into the story. It was like, 100+ pages, or 1000+ pages, I forgot, but there's really a lot of progress already, so I got in, got with another F, gone to third base all the way to home base WITHIN THE FIRST DAY they met (Yes, I'm still ashamed of that blind rut stage where I just RP for the smut), the girl got pregnant (yes still on the same day), and got abortion due to gang attack by rival school member (still on the same day). That's not even the worst part, because I joined in pretty late, and it's only day 3, in RP day 3.

And within that 3 day, there has been several pregnancy, several abortion, two marriage, one divorce, one NTR situation, one mafia situation where the NTRd girl wants revenge, someone actually got killed, for real, several new 'transfer student', several expulsion (due to inactivity), and whole lot of smut.

And it started as a simple Vocaloid highschool slice-of-life.

When in order for the story to start something has to happen and your partner just keeps dancing around it. EG: The plot is about the character being kidnapped. Until that happens the two characters are separate which makes RP difficult and somewhat dull. So the kidnapper stalks the victim and waits just inside a secluded alley way, yes... there is a hint!!! So what does partner do? Their character avoids the alley way altogether!!! Ok, sure... so kidnapper tries another way and partner has their character avoid that as well!!

I like slow burn but there has to be something happening!

When you spend couple of days creating the world, characters, getting your pieces on the board and finally write a starter and he doesn't respond any more :D

*hugs tightly* I basically expect this, now, and I'm occasionally pleasantly surprised if we actually RP. I think there should be a subforum for people just want to world-bulid and that's it. Oh, wait, there is. lol

Perrsonally for me theres a few,

I actually enjoy (to an extent) when other people power play my character. ESPECIALLY in starters, that being said, one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is when they power play but counteract something ive already stated or done in the previous reply.

another of my pet peeves is a pretty simple one, not being detailed.... like... at all... typing in a way that is not easily understood. I like to think I'm rather intelligent, however when a partner is extremely vague with something that's happening I kind of get writers block and sit and stare at the vagueness trying to understand whats actually happening. ESPECIALLY if its towards the end of one scene and I'm supposed to carry it into the next.

For example I was doing a kidnapping roleplay a few weeks back. and the kidnapper simply stated towards the end of their two paragraph reply:

He decided to make sure the other was unconscious and take him back to his hotel room

My thing is.... did you just decide to render them unconscious but not act on it? or did you act on it? If you acted on it did you chloroform him? Did you suffocate him? Did you knock him out with a hard hit to the skull? etc etc. I cant react properly if I'm not sure how it happened.

ALSO I play mainly MxM roleplays and My characters are strictly bottoms. I have tried to play a switch OR a Top but I just can't. I'm extremely submissive (bratty sub) OOC and in no way shape or form dominant so I cant get myself to play something im not comfortable with.

However I have had COUNTLESS people through out my 5-6 years of roleplay try to force me into playing a switch or a top. OR they have said they are a strict top but end up being the most powerless weak bottom in the world. more so than I used to be when I started. LORD I can not fucking handle that. that is probably the only one that Actually Pisses me off.. the others annoy me but that one.... nope.... ill block you that's how irritated I get.

I have a few.

Captured characters escaping without giving a hint first. And expecting you to recapture them in a creative way without them writing their character making a mistake. I get why an escape could feel exciting, or if people turn on by their character receiving a harder punishment for that upon being caught. But I donโ€™t like when it happens unplanned.

I donโ€™t mind getting late replies. But donโ€™t like when people donโ€™t bother to reread the last entry either and send you a very general post independent of your previous reply.

When every paragraph in a post starts with the characterโ€™s name/pronoun.

Writing transitions when the scene changes. Naturally, someone needs to do it, but still =)

Usually I don't even get to the point of an RP with someone when this irritation occurs, it is typically in the planning stages. I message someone expressing interest in an idea of theirs or offering to take them up on one of their specific requests and while I do all the brainstorming and come up with elaborate and creative ideas for the scenario and direction we can take it in, they provide minimalist responses as though they're not interested and if by the time we get to the point of starting a game, which is rare, they also put in very little effort into the actual game. All the work I did coming to naught, because they weren't honest enough about how lazy a writer they were or how uninterested they were in it and were just too polite to say they weren't in the mood or didn't want to write with me in particular or that my idea for it was not what they had in mind. I'd take a sincere 'That sounds awful, fuck off' over a dishonest 'sure, let's do that' any day because at least then I have certainty.

I hate that as well. Due to having this experience a number of times I tend to ask lots of questions, even leave gaps or openings for the person to include their own thoughts, wishes etc. If I'm not getting much in return or they are just saying "Yeah, that's great, when do we start?" I bale.

I think when the effort put into the story fizzles out for lack of communication.

Not necessarily, I can exchange dozens of PM messages with someone over a potential game idea so the communication isn't the problem, it's the amount of effort being so disproportionately one-sided. Their lack of enthusiasm or reciprocation of the amount of effort I put in is actually a little disrespectful if they're expecting me to do all the heavy lifting and/or aren't courteous enough to just outright say they're not feeling it, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I do wonder if it's a bit of "Well I do want this, but this person just doesn't seem right for me or they want to play out this idea in a way I don't like, but maybe I'll never find another partner for this esoteric thing I'm requesting, so..." If you lay out your terms and conditions honestly from the start, then everybody can avoid wasting time and feeling dumb.

Sometimes it's due to a lack of communication. Sometimes it's also due to a lack of chemistry with your partner and/or the premise just not being all that good long term. I have a long time partner where sometimes the ideas just fizzle despite everything else being in place.

Yes that's happened where a story just never got lift off. But you are lucky to have your partner stay around.

I think a lot of people tend to throw the baby out with the bathwater. If you don't like RP'ing with someone then obviously you dump the partner and the story. But if you feel you are getting along well then to ghost them just because the story isn't working out is pretty silly in my opinion. Sometimes stories can be re-worked later too incorporating the same themes in a different way. Just a case of being honest and open with each other.

Not so much a roleplay-centric pet peeve of mine but it relates to roleplaying.

When I'm wanting to write something, smutty or not, I hate it when life gets in the way. It happened to me recently when I was starting to really get into a scene but then my off-site life just fell apart and I unintentionally ghosted all of my partners. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Ghosting is the worst. Say Something.

Apart from that, I like discussing things (not in tiny details but to have an arc) and changing up major plans is just not fair.

No means no. Even my five year old relative gets it and repeats it.

People who contribute absolutely nothing to the plotting process. If I ask you a question, I want your feelings on it, not for you to redirect and just ask 'what do you think?' If I had an opinion, I would tell you; I'm asking because I want yours. Having this problem on another site and the back-and-forth is driving me absolutely insane.
Like, if you want to change something, tell me how. If you say "can we do x?" and I ask "well, how would you want to go about doing x?" and they say "how would you do it?" it's just... argh. You're the one who wanted to change something, you're the one who wanted to do something, maybe give me a bit of input on how you wanted to do it? Lol.

Pet peeves ~ a partner who has a character drive to a location and then take a cab home. Or a partner who creates a 'strong and dangerous character' who after many posts gets shot (it's clear that the wound is superficial) and expects your character to be the 'caring female' to sit by his bedside, worrying and crying? ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ Seriously?!

When my partner only replies to what I write, but doesn't do anything to advance a story. It's fine occasionally - like if someone can't make an action for whatever reason, however most the time I'd rather half my partner's response go towards driving the story forward in some way.

Me: "Hey I love your RT we have a fair bit on common. How about some of these ideas based around your likes, as you haven't listed any plots etc"
Them: "Hey... ummm I'm not really sure what I want. I'm not sure on my kinks and likes and dislikes really..."

Why are they even seeking a partner?!

Reminds me of a person I get along with splendidly OOC, yet have been left hanging without resolution 4 times in the early stages of play, something that under normal circumstances would disqualify my interest in a person after 1 or 2.

I think once you have that friendship as well as creative chemistry in place you can come back from failure. With my long term RP partner we tend to have a few RP's going at once as well so if one does fizzle there are others to keep us busy. I also tend to be the main person who comes up with ideas which would normally piss me off but it works with her as she does come back with ideas based on my premises at least.
