The world has been reclaimed by Mother Nature once more thanks in part by the wonderful scientists who sought to fix global warming. Their meticulous research produced fungi and new species of plants with the abilities to rid our landfills of rubbish and clean our air from the overwhelming pollution. The world celebrated the new plants and they were mass produced in order to save our dying planet. Everyone and anyone planted the little life savers all over the continents and soon the proof of their usefulness was seen. The air was cleaner, the landfills were diminished, and the damage humans caused seemed to be swept away in a sea of green. Life was good.

As time passed the scientists realized their creation wasn't as perfect as it seemed. The new life had begun to grow rapidly, much faster than any species of bamboo and while it was worrisome, the higher ups deemed it even more successful. They could be produced less and encouraged to grow and give aid to bringing the climate back to life. More time passed and it was discovered that normal plants seemed to be changing. Seeds, pollen, and spores were spread and they landed on normal plants the DNA mutated the cells, changing the plant into something new. This was cause for alarm and while a press conference should have happened, the crisis was pushed under a rug. Soon enough animals became effected too. Slight mutations were overlooked as diseases until more and more animals began to show dangerous abnormalities.

The media caught wind at such obvious mutations and though the panic was present in many, the good out weighed the bad. The people tried to adapt to the changes and while some welcomed the evolution with open arms, most became increasingly concerned. Denial reigned over the minds of humans until they realized their creation could no longer be contained. As the plants began to spread at a rapid pace, people began to realize the resistance they seemed to build up. Some were fire proof, some emitted deadly toxins, some even had been exposed as carnivorous. Death tolls between crushing buildings, plants, animals, and heavy crime began to rise. Over the years the smaller towns succumbed to Mother Nature and then larger suburbs until finally cities fell. Areas with higher humidity were hit the hardest while deserts became heavily populated with the remaining population. Some people fled to open water, believing that the sea was more welcoming, others remained behind and adapted.

Vehicles no longer had streets to roam and were left abandoned, covered in vines and fungi. Cell phone towers and electrical plants fell, running water became a thing of the past. Very quickly people found themselves without modern technology. Communication is almost nonexistent, processed foods and canned goods are limited. Luxury items such as lighters and batteries are held in high regard.

Years pass until word comes of a place where humans and mother nature live in harmony. An area had been carved out where people can live like the old days before the collapse. Somewhere safe, somewhere with hope. A group forms with every intention of braving the uncharted territories in order to reach their haven.

Super lame intro since I'm super insanely tired so I'll spruce it up tomorrow night. We have a tone we still need to decide on though. How much time has passed is the biggest factor.

I would add to the background a little then.

As the research still went on and before the fungi was spread, the rising levels of oceans and seas had already became a problem. Densely populated coasts tried to find solutions, some of them migrating inland, others even going as far as into other countries, but there was visionaries who imagined whole cities built on water. Some of these was even built in a smaller scale as experiments, others just used junk and old ships to go to live on the water. While there was never a metropolis built, but after the flooding of parts of California and the earthquakes, it seemed an alternative to rebuild on water. While the biggest problem was always getting the materials and to protect the new parts of the cities from colliding with the shore, the scientists and building engineers with shipwrights finally started pushing out modularareas and buildings.

What no one could imagine was that the mutated spores that was oh so nicely cleaning up our planet was also making a Sargasso style bach on the derelict Great Pacific Garbage Patch. While in itself it was welcomed at the start, visiting scientists soon realised that it was no safer than the land. As more and more plants grew out from the mass, evenanimals stared to congregate on and around - and even under - it. Still, it was far, not dangerous, right? Just a curiosum...

Well, wrong. As the towns and citiesstarte to fall to the 'green menace' - which in itself was sometimes brown, yellow, or even red, blue, and black too - the big swimming cities also got infected. Yes, they realised too late that the building and furnishing materials was partially composed of the same than most of our junk. So, basically the swimming cities became fungus infected, then with the mutated plants and animals, soon it was harder and harder to sanitatize the areas. Parts of the city-ships had to be cut away, leaving them derelict, or sank.

With time, the number of the surviving cities just became unhabitable as they was missing key areas. Pieces of smallcommunities thrived, became pirates, or just tried to live of the water. Only the satellites gave them better communication for a while. Still, there are habitats and even whole towns that survive afloat. They just can not really go anywhere with their homes, so travelling is still done by boats, ships, and yes, planes, but these are small, safely guarded short distance ones.

But all this time marine technology and biology flourished with a speed that is usually known technology to jump forward in times of war. Just as on the almost apocalyptic land, there is scientists that think they cancontrol the 'green menace', or adapt humanity to the new life faster than nature would do it. There are mad, and in some cases straight down evil scientists who are not stopping at something they see as legality of the past, or even conform to any kind of morality. Some of them does not even have common sense...

Sounds all good to me.

How does this sound as timeline for you guys. I don't know if we wanna go with 2019 as reference or not for 'official dates'?

- 50 - 30 years ago = is when people are succesfully creating the first prototypes of water-cities.
- 30-20 years ago = is when a large chunk of people have decided to populate the first set of water-cities and make it a legit way of life.
- 30 -20 years ago (ish) = is when first plants and fungus are introduced to the general population.
- 15 (ish) years ago = is when plants become a problem but people are still trying to manage. animals were also showing signs but not as severe yet. So enough for the media to get a whiff about it.
15 (ish) -10 years ago =is when the first problems on the water-cities began. Still manageable but questions and concerns are raised.
- Year 0 = (just calling it zero for now) the approximate time where people officially decided that the world was fucked. This is around the time where most technology is falling apart and population has been scattered and diminished in numbers.
- 20 (ish) years later = enough time for the current generation (typically our characters) would've lived long enough to have adapted to this world since they practically grew up in it. But still time enough for the older generations to reminisce about the days of old. Think elderly people who saw the first plants introduced or the construction of the water-cities. Middle-aged people would've probably seen the old world when they were kids/teens/young adults.

Both proposals sound good to me. So our characters (if in our thirties) were born a little before Year 0. So our characters, since Wild's is in her 30's too, would have known the world when it was less dangerous but only for a short while as children. The pirate idea is definitely interesting too. So which direction do you think the rumors should point us? We need to be close enough to the sea to start with in order for ChrisGabriel's character to be able to join us.

Also very nice Pinterest board!

How long do we want to wait and bump before we begin? We have three people interested and I know of a fourth. I need to work on my bio before I'm ready to start the IC thread. I'll think about more things too through out the day to see if there's anything we're missing.

Well, if the Haven says that it can co-exist with nature and founded a pretty solid place to call it sanctuary and it has all the bells and whistles like fresh/clean water, food, electricity, etc... Then it might be in areas that are a bit more remote with 'less' vegetation. Like snowy zones, desert zones, or maybe mountainous? Places where vegetation at least isn't as lush as the rest of the world is.

We can start at a settlement that's around a coastal area or has a river or canal that Chris's character could reach with a smaller boat?
As for bumping rate, maybe it depends on how fast or frequent people can post? I tend to be a one post, maybe 2 per day kind of person. But for this one it might be 1 post per day that I can give cause I have other rp's on the side which will slow me down.

And I'm glad you like the pinterest, lol. It helps me with worldbuilding during rp's : 3

Well, the only place I could think about in the US, since that's were your character is and mine will be too, is Arizona. Hot desert all year round, even the winters are warmer than everywhere else. I would say that it also helps that it is south since that's where it mentions your character is in the profile. Its a long distance to cross if we're on the south east coast, especially with Texas in between. I think Louisiana would be our best bet with rivers and access to water. Heck, part of it could be underwater too, like New Orleans.

Ah, the bumping I meant for the recruitment page. We have four people for now, but it would be awesome to get more involved.

What do you think Chris? Louisiana sound good to you? >.>
And Arizona sounds good to me. Haven could be like an oasis then :p

Imagine how messed up it would be if it were a mirage? I do like the oasis though. They would be very limited on who can come in given the limited water supply (if people can find it) so that could be another threat they have to overcome.

Hey, @ImaginationGoneWild, tonight I will set up the IC thread since we now have three profiles. Is it alright if I put your pinterest board link in for inspiration? I was thinking of setting up some photos as spoilers for what the land world looks like. If @ChrisGabriel still wants to role play with us then we can work together to come up with visual inspiration for the water dwellers.

So how I'm picturing this is I will start with background information about how this started, use your timeline for indication of how it went down. On land will have it's own description and water will have its own section too. Then photos in spoilers for respected sections.

Anything I'm missing?

Also, @ImaginationGoneWil, I love how hardened your character is. They each will have less empathy than we (the writers) due just because of how they grew up but everyone needs that person who can make the tough choices. Love her!

Lousiana is half submerged, Lafayette and Baton Rouge is kind of sitting in the middle of sea-marsh... Houston should be a city that lived long enough, to still have some people surviving...
And Arizona is definitely kind of cooked and devoid of life, before the new plants kind of cover it... But maybe it could have a sizeable colony of humans cultivating their own plants and trying to fight against the green menace.... It all depends if the storms from the very hot Mexican gulf reach it or not regularly...

While these ideas are good, they would not even try to put a city on the sea in the tornado corridor... So I am still thinking I will try to arrive somehow at a point where you two put yourself to meet each other. Be it anywhere. After all, we do not want to have "my city" at our back to call for help all the time... At least not physical help.

Thanks! And sure, go ahead use the board. I'll probably be adding more pics to it over time.
and that sounds good too Chris! i tried to find some pics for a flooded earth as well, they should be in the board. : 3
Oh and you also need to post your profile. : 3

I update Lucille Wilder's profile to include the likes, dislikes, and secrets others had. And added a new character named Lorenzo Orfeo, I figured we needed more dudes.

I'm hoping we get more people to join that way we don't have to play multiple characters if we don't want to. I'll think up a guy too.
Also, have the start of IC going and updated the links in every thread.

And need to fix the links again. -_-

@ChrisGabriel @ImaginationGoneWild @Gambit

We need to get on the same page.

The world right now, as far as technological advancements goes, is the same as it is now in real life. We had planes, cell phones, computers, cars, boats, ect. The crisis happened where we currently are so there are no more advancements being made. Imagine right now, there is no internet, no phones, nothing that doesn't require batteries to work (and batteries are limited). There is barely enough gas left to siphon from other cars in order to make them go. There's hardly any roads that are left untouched in order to drive. There will not be enough gas to get a plane going and there are no runways left untouched to land on. Right now there are oil rigs in the ocean and that is as far as humans have come to living on the ocean.

To have a futuristic city (costing billions of dollars if not more) be built, function perfectly, and sustain life is highly improbable. I am alright with boat houses, tiny homes on rafts, huts like Bajau Tribe have, and even boats hooked to each other to create a community. There would be no underwater community being built in a world wide crisis, especially one with such technology that they can experiment and modify humans to be able to live underwater unassisted.

For land, as someone who grew up in Arizona I can verify that there is a very brief period of moisture. There are plenty of areas, especially in the desert that are just dirt, tumbleweeds, and cacti. There is a two month season where they get rain, other than that it is periodic and they are often in a drought. Totally cool with the haven being in Arizona and the citizens cultivating their own plants to fight the current. Only problem is, we are now once again creating plants to fight our battles so there will be people who support and oppose it. Each character can pick their own side.

I am also alright with Louisiana being mostly submerged and us starting in Texas. It makes it easier to get to our destination. We won't be having the sea people come to save us since there is only one character who is from that location, unless ChrisGabriel is playing multiple sea people or other people create their characters to match hers. Either way, we need to get the idea of the sea 'city' together. When your character comes, it will be by boat or swimming. Also remember that boats are limited since they need gas to drive.

Land characters, with in the first three posts I would like to be able to meet up together. Sofia and Dex are already together and I am planting them in the town that Lucille is in. This way we can form our group and go. If you want to wait longer,ChrisGabriel, that's fine too.

We also need to make sure to be careful not to godmod. This means no character that is above their means. No person is perfect, no one has all the answers, no one is untouchable, and no one is the perfect warrior. They all have faults, they all have limits, and they all are struggling to survive. Each person has something to contribute to the team but they can not support the team in every single aspect. We are a team.

Best example I can give: Sofia has all the information on the crisis at her fingertips. She doesn't understand a lot of it, she doesn't have 10-15 years of college (which is also gone) to get a doctorate to understand completely what is written. She does, however, have a journal she memorized and added to about a good portion of the plants on land. She can recognize what to eat, what to help heal, what wards off animals, what to stay away from, what kills, ect. She does not know all of them and she is always discovering more. She is average everywhere else. She needs Dex's strength, fighting, and repairing. She needs Lucille's bandit abilities, resourcefulness, fighting, and tough decision making skills. She needs Lorenzo's medical skills and his level headed thinking. She will need Coral's water intelligence especially since there are cities that are submerged.

I am not calling anyone out but I noticed things that make me believe we are not on the same page. I will be updating the IC and fixing the links later today.

Links fixed though I'm not sure the format is supported since it keeps changing. We will see if I need to redo it.

Sounds good to me. Lucille is a bruiser type. She's got an attitude but she knows how to survive outside of settlements due to having a nomadic lifestyle in the past. She knows what to look for out in the wild for danger and whatnot, but also with scavenging and thinking quickly in case of emergencies. She's a no-bullshit kind of women so I expect her not to be the most well-liked within the group. lol.

Orfeo is a medic but he didn't follow a proper education though. He just learned it all from watching others and with practice and personal experience. So I imagine stuff like first aid, stitching, common illnesses or dealing with toxins, etc... native to the surroundings. harder stuff like surgery will always be a gamble with him. He's a gentleman though so he's got that going, lol.

About present time and when we play in the timeline: If we really go with the climate change - water level rising, then we, at present time is at the point of - 50 - 30 years ago = is when people are succesfully creating the first prototypes of water-cities. As in Zero year would be 2050-2070. and we play almost around 2100...

We already - as in now - have the knowledge and technology for both building the futuristic cities and bio-engineering on a scale to change DNA.

Now, a climate change brings wars, and both brings a very fast paced technological improvement. (See ANY big wars in humanity's existence.)
I do not say that the world as a whole has the opportunity to use the know-how, or even that more than a couple of places has the resources or money to do so.

Still, in my character's background, I think that the pictures are not that far-fetched from the possibilities of year zero. Well, definitely not around more than other cities at the time of the game. The only one that could be debated is the one where my character comes from... But mathematically speaking it is not only possible, but probable. After all, even if we loose all ground based transported electricity and information - which does not happen from one moment to the next - On the spot energy generators, sun collectors, wind and water turbines, gheotermal and Wave Energy Converters... They are even now a reality. Add to that that the internet is specifically created to keep working as long as possible in case of war and catastrophes. Even if somehow all the ocean cables and surface communication waves are obscured and shut down there are the satellites. The same satellites that even now prowide internet access on all the ships! Including not only nacigational data, but comunication and real streaming if needed. And that is just the commercialuse. Now, think what the biggest military of the world - USA - has at its fingertips?

So, while we could have problems starting at year zero (and remember, it is not this year either), even 20 years later there are working remnants of everything, even if the remaining population can't use their everyday phones and usual internet access any more. Except the swimming cities (or, at least one, where my character comes from), for they would have their own energy sources and communications. Well, not too much places they can reach with said communication, as there would be no humans to answer at most places... But there are still places where communication is possible...

Saying all of this, it is still not the case of my character (or any of us) readily having access to whatever we want. It is just a background that is the more realist part of the whole post-apocalyptic game...

Returning to my character, she would be the only one making it to your camp. I do not intend to bring other characters at this time - at least not until we really need something in the "party" if there are no other players...

Your character is too OP, chris. -,-

The Profile says she has a Great Scientific Mind. And wants to be a mermaid...we all agreed on just humans for this Roleplay not mermaids....And if the technology was possible you need the equipment to be able to perform this surgery and alterations on people and make sure they survive the treatment. In a world where everything is breaking down. and with planes you need fuel. Fuel fitting for a plane. after 20 years of apocalypse....

The way you described everything in the background is that -your- water city happens to be at peak condition. You got all the machines working, so good even you can turn yourself into a freaking mermaid. In a apocalyptic world with failing equipment (even if there were plans to try and make technology last for as long as it could). Besides climate change there are MUTATED plants and animals that were too difficult for people to handle. Hence why the apocalypse. Because they had to abandon their cities due to nature walking all over them.

You have to understand that all our characters were kids when the world went to shit. So they didn't go to school, I even have a character who can't read or write because of lack of education available. Why? Because finding food and staying alive is more important then Science. My doctor character didn't study medicine, he just watched other people patch each other up and went: oh, I gotta remember that in case I ever need to amputate a leg myself. The character sofia has sciency stuff but has no clue what she's doing. And the Dex character is just muscle, plainly put.

Just make the Character less OP, drop the mermaid stuff and following the setting that -everyone- agreed on already. Several times. If you don;t agree with it then leave the group. Cause if we're gonna have to keep repeating ourselves, or keep re explaining to you what the setting is then you're not gonna fit in well enough. >.>

@ChrisGabriel

I think you are wanting a different role play than what we are offering. We have tried to explain it to you every way until Sunday on what the environment, technology, and conditions we are left with. You still are not understanding what we are talking about.

The year zero is now 2019. We do not have that kind of technology, that kind of money, or even plans for such a life style or structure to propose what you want. As of right now, the year zero (taking place in 2019), we have no internet, we have no city on the water, we have no phones, we have no technology requiring electricity. Our world is over and we have finally admitted defeat. This means no schools, no colleges, no everyday convenience we have. The world went to crap years ago and it is beyond repair now. What we have now in the world (real world) is the BEST it's going to get. From here on out there are no advancements. So your city DOES NOT WORK.

To add to this, your character is 100% a Mary Sue. Her only fault is she is "too smart". She has evolved through natural evolution (or scientific which SHOULD NOT EXIST) that should take hundreds or thousands of years. So much so that her skin is harder, she is faster, she is stronger, she can live under water, ect. She is basically a new species. She is 21 years old, lives in a utopia, and has already identified what went wrong and knows how to save the world. She is (at freaking 21!) Able to perform surgeries and modify not only another person but also herself AT 21. If anyone should have the answer it should be Sofia since she actually has the studies and notes on the actual problem, however, her level of education is somewhat high school level. She can read, she can write, and she can do basic math. Right now, in the real world, if it snows a certain amount schools will close. This means if plants began to take over the world, most people would pull their kids out of school and either teach at home or teach them survival skills. What's going to keep them alive longer? Science or survival skills? The only way I would be willing to accept your character being insanely smart and all knowing is if she were in her 60s or 70s and actually had all this knowledge before things went bad. But if your character is that old then they are physically weaker than everyone else, even Sofia who is average.

At the end of the day I am pulling the plug. Either adapt your character to having lived on a house boat/tiny house on a raft/oil rig/boats tied together to create a 'city/Bajau tribe huts on the water OR don't role play. I am all for collaborating but you are basically arguing something against the person who proposed the idea. We already compromised with the people living on water, we will not compromise with anything else. If you want an Atlantis type role play then you are more than welcome to create one yourself.

I do NOT want a floating utopia.
There are no scientific experiments on humans.
There are no planes.
There will be no technology aside from anything using a battery.
There are no super humans.
