Isabella didn’t really want to explain how Jess managed to piss off or spook every guy she had a thing for then blame her. Even her friends she had made outside of Jess’ circle thought she was overbearing in Isa’s life most of the time. So she just shrugged and grinned sheepishly.
She blinked, staring at him, our time? Wait...
Before she could manage to ask anything she had blurted out about talking and he had changed topics to her heritage. It was easier to talk about her home then about what he meant about “our time” so she let it go and answered.
“North like you guessed,” she smiled, “but I have family on the southern coast too. We moved to America when I was fifteen. Dad had a good business deal that would pay off well. It did. It helped me get into college, and my parents just bought a new house in Naples near the rest of our family. They moved back a month ago.”
She smiled, missing home, “it’s beautiful there Miles. The water, the people, the food. If Jess hadn’t demanded we spend our spring break here for her birthday I was going to fly home and visit. Now I’ll be waiting till summer, but dad says he’ll fly me out for the two months, so that’ll be nice.”
She smiled, missing them but happy they had moved back to Italy. After a moment she turned the tables, “So what about you? Have you always lived in town or did you move for college?”
