Semper Fi and Nadie

Charlie arrived home and changed out of her tux before flopping onto the bed. She just couldn't get that woman out of her mind. It wasn't just that she was attracted to her. Something in her eyes caught Charlie's attention. Hannah was always aware and have a look in her eyes. It seemed like she was looking for someone to show up at any moment. Especially when she had her panic attack. Charlie had never seen such fear and panic, and she had seen alot in her job field. With a sigh, Charlie tucked herself under the covers. "Forget it. You will most likely never see her again." Charlie closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, hoping to not dream of the woman.

Evan glanced over and smiled at the sight of her sleeping lover. After arriving home she stepped out and went over to the passenger side to open the door for Kat. She leaned in and gently caressed her face "Babe, we're home. Let's get you to bed." she helped Kat out of the car and lead the way inside and up to the bedroom. Evan slipped off Kat's dress then turned the bed down for her before going to undress herself, taking some time since she didn't want to wrinkle her uniform. In just her undershirt and a pair of boy cut briefs she slipped into bed and spooned Kat as she settled into their normal spots. With a soft kiss to the back of Kat's neck Evan drifted off to sleep.

Sasha chuckled and kissed Cass back. "Oh yes, totally worth it." she boarded the plane with Cass and others then after finding her seat she snuggled in close to her wife and as the plane took off Sasha had already dozed off with her head rested against Cass's shoulder.

**one month later**

Things have returned to normal. Everyone had fallen back into their comfortable routine. At the local sheriff's office however, things were slightly different as they would be getting a new deputy. Evan walked out of her office in search of Cass "Shaw..." Evan headed to Cass's desk as she went over the file of her new deputy. "We got a new recruit starting today. I'll place her with you."

Life returned to normal, Cass went back to work after the honeymoon, she was immensely enjoying being married. She glanced up at Evan, "Alright," She said. Not overly enthused about having a new recruit but she'd make it work.

Jocelyn showed up to the sheriff's station, she'd just arrived in town, and had been accepted as a Sheriff's Deputy. She was former Secret Service, but after an accident, she'd decided to retire and move to a small town, enjoy being a small town cop.

Jesh strolled down main street, she'd settled into life here, and was getting a little more comfortable, a little less on edge, she still didn't feel totally safe, but she wasn't looking over her shoulder as much anymore.

Evan spotted the new recruit and strolled over to greet her. "We are happy to have you here." she motioned to Cass "I will pair you up with Shaw. I think you two will work well together."

A few feet down the street where Jesh was walking an ambulance with their lights flashing could be seen. A cyclist was struck by a car. Charlie and Sasha were tending to the young man who had a small stream of blood coming from his head and some cuts on his right arm.

Joss nodded, "thanks," She walked over to Cass and the pair introduced each other and headed out for patrol.

Jesh saw the ambulance and instinctively tensed up, but forcing herself to relax she continued down the sidewalk towards the farmer's market that was going on. She wanted some fresh vegetables, and she liked to walk, since she lived right in town and could walk most of the places she liked to go.

Charlie finished examining their patient then looked up just as Hannah was passing. She tried not to react to the sight of the woman but Sasha caught it and she looked to see who caught her partner's eye. "Hey, isn't that the cater woman from the wedding? The one who fell ill." Charlie just nodded before gathering herself and beginning to pack up. Sasha nudged her "Why not talk to her? I can tell you like her." Charlie felt her face flush. "Uhhh...n-no no. She probably doesn't remember me." Charlie busied herself with her satchel. Sasha was perplexed by Charlies response. Usually she would jump at the chance of talking to a cute girl. Her partner's uncharacteristic behavior promoted her to take matters into her own hands and not let this opportunity slip by. As Charlie went to the back of the rig she slipped away to speak to the woman herself.

"Hey~" she beamed at the woman and held her hand out to her. "Not sure if you remember. But you catered at my wedding a few weeks ago. I remember you suddenly took ill. I am happy to see you are alright now"

Meanwhile, Cass and Joss got a call of a disturbance at a local park. When they would arrive a group of people kept three separate from four others. The man who called it in rushed up to the officers and filled them in. "Apparently, that guy and his two friend tried to take a woman's service dog from her." he pointed to a man in the group of three, then to a short blond woman who was being shielded by the group of four. The woman sat on a bench as she held her black and brown german shepard close to her.

Jesh was a little startled when one of the medics ran over. Then she nodded, "Of course, it was a beautiful wedding." She said with a smile. "I am feeling much better, thank you," She said with a polite smile. This whole small town friendliness was still a bit beyond Jesh. She wasn't use to knowing people or people stopping her on the road to chat, but she'd be polite, she wanted to fit in, and this was part of fitting in.

Cass and Joss arrived on scene, Cass sighed, "Jesus Christ, can't people just leave each other alone?" She muttered. "Joss, go talk to the handler, make sure her and her dog are okay." Cass walked over to the three idiots, to have a chat with them, while Joss walked over to the woman. "Ma'am? I'm Deputy Doyle, How are you doing?" She asked as she sat down on the bench next to the woman and her German shepherd.

Sasha smiled brightly at the woman then held her hand out "I'm Sasha" She pointed over to Charlie, who was standing by the rig with a "seriously?" look directed at Sasha. "That's Charlie, my partner." she motioned for Charlie to come over. Charlie did not want to come over, too nervous to talk to Hannah. But she did not want to be rude. "God, I am gonna kill her." she thought then trotted over to them and gave Hannah a shy smile. Just then, Sasha made a show of pulling out her phone. "Oh, look at that. My wife Cass is calling." she said then gave Charlie a subtle wink before stepping away. Charlie fought back a groan and turned back to Hannah.

"I....ummmmm yeah hey. I'm glad to see you are feeling alright." she said, trying her best not to embarrass herself.

The blond woman flinched a bit when she heard a voice next to her. She clung to her dog and nodded. "Yes officer, I am ok now." she tried to turn to the woman but did not make full eye contact, as she usually does. It was obvious she had a severe vision impairment. "I just.....don't understand why they are acting like this."

"That woman is the one you should talk to." One of the men with Cass said. "That is animal cruelty! You can't use an animal like that! Like a tool to be used whenever you see fit!"

Jesh chuckled, "Yeah I'm doing better." She said with a faint smile, she wished she had a different life, so maybe she could persue something with this insanely cute EMT, But instead she had to keep it to being friends, if that, in order to nto put anyone else in danger.

Joss nodded. "They're assholes." She said firmly, "Is your dog okay?" She asked, letting her eyes scan over the shepherd, it didn't look injured or even that particularly rattled.

Cass sighed, pinching her nose, "Do you know anything about working dogs? That dog loves his job. Now, what you did was illegal, so you are getting arrested, you'll do some jail time, have a fine to pay." She said as she began cuffing the men.

Charlie stood there as she rubbed the back of her neck, nervously. God she wanted to ask this woman out. But something about her made Charlie hesitate. The woman's body language had her wondering, why does Hannah always look like she is ready to run? Why does she has a constant look of anxiousness in her eyes. Charlie wished she would be her normal self and just ask Hannah out. But she felt that the woman just needed a friend at the time.

"So...ahhhh I was thinking" She finally said "Since you are new in town, maybe I can show you around, sometime, maybe....iunno..."

The woman smiled slightly. "Pretty blunt of you officer." she said with an amused tone. She then leaned over and scratched behind her dog's ears. She admired the officer's concern for not only herself, but her dog as well. "He seems fine, officer." she heard the men yelling in protest about getting arrested, but they did not resist. "Oh, are they really getting arrested." while it was deserved, she didn't wanted it to go that far.

Jesh smiled, enjoyed some of Charlie's awkwardness. She knew she should politely decline Charlie's invitation, relationships and friendships were pretty much a no go for her. But instead she found herself nodding, "I'd like that," She said with a soft smile.

Joss chuckled, "Oh we'll round them up, just to razz them a bit." She said, "An actual arrest won't hold, but they will have fines to pay, for interfering with a service dog." She said, watching as Cass wrangled them all into squad cars. "Besides, maybe, just maybe it'll knock some sense into them." She said.

Charlie perked up and returned the smile to Hannah. "Great, I'm off tomorrow so let's meet up here around noon?" After agreeing to a time Charlie waved to the woman and turned to head back to the rig, nearly bumping into a nearby produce stand as she did. Sasha just chuckled at the sight as she watched Charlie head back. She could tell how infatuated Charlie was with this woman.

The woman nodded at the officer's words. "Thank you Officer....ummm Doyal was it? Oh, ummm do you need my information for anything?" she asked as she stood to get ready to leave. Her dog stood at the ready for her companion.

Jesh nodded, "Alright, see you then," SHe smiled, watched the woman go, before she smiled and continued on her way. Knowing she shouldn't have agreed, but she couldn't help herself.

Joss nodded, "Yes, it's Doyle." She said with a smile. Then she nodded, "Yeah, I should take it down. If you aren't pressing charges we shouldn't need to contact you, but just in case." She said, grabbing a notepad and pen to take down the woman's info.

The woman nodded and gave Joss her info. She said her name was Devin Sumner and then the motioned to her dog. "and this is Bowser." her companion gave a little grunt. Devin then gave the officer her number. Part of her told herself she was just giving her info in case she needed it. But she'd be lying of she said another part of her wouldn't want Joss to contact her for other reasons.

"So ummmm...yes thank you again Officer Doyle." she extended her hand in Joss's direction, and felt a jolt course through her once she came into contact with the other woman. "Ummmm y-yes....I'll be going" with that, she turned and Bowser led her the way home.

**the next day**

Charlie strolled down the sidewalk to the meeting spot her and Hannah agreed upon. While this as just a friendly offer to show the woman around town, Charlie made sure to look her best in a pair of light colored slacks and a short sleeved plaid button up. She also opted she her black rimmed glasses as opposed to the contacts she usually wears at work. "Ok, ok. You are just showing her around. This isn't a date, not a date. You don't even know if she is into women." she told herself as she walked.

Joss had to admit, she wanted this woman's information for personal reasons, but reminded herself that wasn't appropriate. When she shook the woman's hand her body jerked and shuddered. What the hell was that? She wondered, watching the woman leave. She took a shuddering breath as her and Cass returned to the station, eventually releasing the men after a good talking to.

Jesh was reluctant the next day but she showed up at the meeting spot, a pair of jean capris and a fluttery blue blouse, her hair hanging loose. She sat on a bench as she waited for Charlie. She second guessed herself, knowing she shouldn't be doing this but unable to say no to the pretty medic.

Charlie spotted Jesh sitting on a bench at their meeting spot. Stopping in her tracks for a moment to take in the sight of the beautiful woman before walking up to her, giving her a warm smile.

"Hey, you made it. So what would you like to check out first" Charlie rocked in her heels as she hooked her thumbs into her pockets, clearly trying her best to act casual but in reality, she was a bundle of nerves.

Jesh smiled at Charlie, noticing her nerves, but she had similar nerves, it was nice to be on even ground. "Oh I'm not really sure. I don't know much about the town, so why don't you lead the way?" She offered as she stood up. She couldn't help but let her eyes flicker around town, looking for anything that might be a risk. She was always looking for things that might be a threat to her, and sign that she might have to drop everything and run.

Charlie smiled and nodded at Hannah's suggestion. "Alright, Let's just walk around town and I can tell you about some of the more interesting things to check out" She led the woman towards the main street of the town, telling her about the shops and spots to check out. "This place really keeps the small town feel that had been fading away for the past few decades." and Charlie was not kidding. The town had kept large chain stores out and has opted for the small general stores and farmer's markets. One of the only things that had a modern upgrade was the theater.

"You would have to drive a good twenty miles to a city for the big chain stores. We didn't feel the need for them here." Charlie explained as they walked. She took note of how Hannah's gaze darted around, as if looking out for an ambush. While they walked around main street a man took notice of them. Charlie knew him from around town. He took notice of Hannah and Charlie thought nothing of it. She figured he was just checking her out. Which would not be a surprise. After all Hannah was a beautiful woman. Charlie felt her face heat up at that thought

Jesh fell into step beside Charlie, she enjoyed listening to the other woman talk about the town. "It's beautiful here, I very much like it." She said with a smile. They walked, enjoying the nice day. "I like the small town feel," She said, "I've spent too much time in big cities, this is a very nice change." She said, She took note of the man who noticed them. She tensed up, her eyes skittering around the area, she felt like a deer in the headlights. Like a wild animal who was about to be cornered, but she tried to remain calm, tried to not let her nerves show to Charlie too much.

Charlie nodded at Hannah's words. "Yeah, I grew up in a town like this. I was in a big city when I went through med school and was dying to get back to the small town life." Charlie then took notice of Hannah's change in behavior. Was it the guy who was staring at her who made her nervous. She tried to think of a way to get his eyes off of her. There was only one way she could think of. She reached out and took Hannah's hand, bringing her closer as she continued to point out things about the town. The man took note of Charlie taking Jesh's hand and just shrugged and walked off.

Jesh glanced over at Charlie in surprise when she took her hand, but she didn't resist, she just smiled and kept her hand in Charlie's as the other woman showed her around town. She noticed that the man had stopped watching them and Jesh was relieved, she relaxed fractionally, enough to not look like she was going to bolt at a moment's notice, even if she still wasn't totally relaxed. But still, she found herself leaning into Charlie slightly, smiling.

Charlie was relived that Hannah didn't freak out when she took her hand. "Sorry for being so forward. I noticed that guy was checking you out and it made you seem a bit uncomfortable. I figured I make it look like we were....well...on a date or something, and he would leave you be." Charlie continued walking forward, rubbing the back of her neck nervously with her free hand. God, she felt like that awkward teenager again. What was it about this woman that brought out this side of her. As awkward as she felt at that moment, she also like it in a way.

Jesh smiled, "Thanks," She said softly, amused by Charlie's awkwardness. But she didn't let go of Charlie's hand as they walked. "Well, as far as dates go, if this was a date, it would be one of the better ones I've been on in a while." SHe grinned, she was starting to think that perhaps Charlie liked women, so she wanted to make it clear she did to. IT was a bad idea. She couldn't get involved, but damn it, she was interested in this woman, the first one she'd been interested in, in a long time.

Charlie felt her face heat up and she new she was blushing. Man, when was the last time a woman made her blush. "U-Ummmm I'm glad to hear that" she gave Hannah's hand a light squeeze as they continued walking. She wanted to ask the woman out formally, but something was stopping her. She figured it was Hannah's behavior at times, always cautious, always looking around making sure there was an escape. Charlie definitely wanted to see more of this woman, but figured it was best to stay friendly for now. They rounded the corner back to their original meeting place to part ways.

"So....erm.....yah the Sheriff holds this big cookout thing every year. I mean well, the city does it, to thank first responders and Evan give then her ranch to use for it. There plenty of great food and people and Evan has a few horses she let's the guests ride." Charlie shuffled her feet nervously. "So ummm yeah I figured I'd let you know since it's coming up and you're new in town an all" she mentally slapped herself to stop her rambling. "Anyway, hopetoseeyouthereseeya" she said in one breath then headed off, making sure not to trip and make more of an ass out of herself. Oh yes, this woman was trouble.

((Ok, time skip))

Evan was getting everything set up for the big cookout. Dispute insisting every year that the city would take care of it all, Evan was still in the thick of it, Even though this was for her and fellow first responders of the town. Charlie was among the first to arrive, along with Sasha who carrying Maddie along on her hip as she let Cass grab the necessary things from the car. Devin had also showed up with her older sister Ashley. Bowser was following along sans his guide vest. Devin wanted to give him the day off to relax and be a dog while her sister and guide stick aided her.

Kat helped put the cook out together. She enjoyed this life, the life she was building now with Evan. She was so so happy here. She watched their friends arrive. Charlie, Sasha and Cass, Lexa and Riley, The new deputy Jocelyn. A lot of other people arrived as well, some faces she recognized, some she didn't. Jesh showed up, despite her nerves, but she was drawn to Charlie. Jesh stayed on the outskirts, not talking to many people, she was still awkward with groups of people, even though she'd been here for a while now. She just could never be sure if this would be home for her or not.

Joss walked around the party, chatting with some people she new, then she saw Devin. Smiling she walked over. "Hey, It's Joss, the deputy from the other day. How are you?" She asked with a smile.

Evan looked over at Kat while she assisted in getting everything ready. She was so happy to see her lover fit in so well into her hometown. Kat looked much happier than when she first arrived her. Evan remembered how tense she looked, possibly from the workload of her old job. Now she was always smiling brightly and seemed care free. Evan was also happy to provide that to the woman she loved. After finishing her tasks she walked over and looped her arm around Kat's waist and kiss her temple gently.

Devin smiled at the sound of a familiar voice. "Oh, yes I remember. I am well thank you." she motioned to the woman next to her. "This is my sister Ashley. This was one of the officers that helped me the other day." Ashley nodded and held her hand out. "Thanks alot. I couldn't believe it when Dev told me what happened. What pricks." she let out a disgusted scoff at the mention of the men who tired to take bowser away.

Charlie was chatting with Riley and Lexa when she spotted Hannah, her heart fluttering slightly at the sight of the woman. God, don't fuck this up. She excused herself and headed to one of the many coolers to grab some drinks. She grabbed two sodas and two beers, unsure if Hannah drank alcohol, then jogged over to her. "Hey" with a bright smile she offered the drinks to Jesh.

((It slipped my mind that Jesh gave Charlie a fake name xD))
