Contracting a Fenrir (Kinky Bunny and Archet)

Maven stopped as Rana was pulled back in by the white chain as she herself had forgotten about them herself. She stepped aside as she watched her use her own magic easily destroying the last containment. She couldn't help but smile a bit as it was nice to see her be able to shed the last layer herself. "Guess they didn't expect you to be at you're full strength again."Maven joked as the two were now able to make their way down the cliff this time it being much easier as Rana provided them with some slides and extra foot holes. "This is a pretty area I'm gonna miss it, we're not allowed in this part of the grounds unless looking for a familiar or on a trip for a class." Maven explained as the two of them finally reached the bottom.

"Filling the water should only take a moment so we can stay together, unless you rather hunt alone. Not much help in that department though should be able to forage some plants." She explained leading the two down to the lake which was still mostly half thawed though the ice had begun to slowly creep back as it was no longer a smooth cut. As she leaned over filling up the bottles she noticed a few fish near the bottom of the swallow end. Gently she placed the bottles down and aimed two fingers at the largest fish as she shoot a thin ice spike down at it. She fired another two as the first one only injured it and the next two finished it off before it could escape. She waded into the water throwing it on shore as she was rather proud of herself. Though it clearly wasn't big enough to feed both of them but it was a start.

Rana chuckles, "Eh...There's always teleportation when the teachers aren't looking- but I dunno why you'd want to return here." she says, looking a bit bitter as she looks back towards where the cave is before shaking her head. "If it's alright, I'd rather we never come back to it if we can help it." she says, the bitterness plain in her voice. She helps fill the bottles, the cold water was almost freezing. "Well, I'm going to try to hunt a larger creature. I normally hunt whatever the hell I could find, but subsisting off of small woodland creatures when I can be well...Huge? Not exactly filling, even if it keeps me alive. Besides, I think it's been a while since I've had bear." she said, licking her lips. However, she snaps out of it to catch the fish. "Not bad, little one." she says as she holds it tight even as it wiggles lightly in her grasp. "You hunt it, you keep it." she says, tossing the fish back to her, however, she gets a good idea. "I know I saw you do that large arcane blast when you were decimating those Shackles, but how would you like to see some powerful magic with more...Finesse by watching me hunt? I only remember my more...Bestial self uses claws and teeth to kill, and only occasionally using Fire to cook it." she asks with a grin as she offers a hand to help Maven out of the cold lake.

"To get away from everything and have a quiet place to study and do some res..reading."Maven said catching herself as she didn't want to seem too much like the person who did this to Rana. "It wouldn't be often maybe once every few months, but can see why you wouldn't want to come back." She added her head following hers up toward the cave. She took her hand climbing out of the lake once she caught the fish again lightly snapping it by the head causing it to stop moving after a few seconds. "I've always focused on more practical uses of magic. My own reserve isn't impressive so I have to make every spell count. Doesn't leave much room for showmanship." Maven explained trailing behind Rana. "I would love to see what you got especially if against a bear." She added a hint of excitement in her voice as she scouted the ground for a decent cooking stick.

Rana just shrugs. "No, it makes sense. There was a good reason he had chosen that place to 'research' that damnable magic." she says, hands on her hips as she sighs in light irritation. "But yeah, I guess so. Would like to get rid of some of the less...Nice paraphernalia that's in there." she says, but it was easy to see it was probably the remains of the shackles and a few other things. She however listens well when Maven explains her practical use of magic and nods understandingly. "Ah...That must be why..." she stops before chuckling, "Don't worry, once we form that contract, I'll help you figure out cost-efficient ways to do other spells. However, for now..." she stretches and says, "Right. Follow me." she says as she lightly moves away from Maven to pause and start sniffing the air, her ears shifting in different directions as her tail flicks curiously. She did this for a for moments before nodding and motioning for Maven to follow. "Stay quiet and close." she says as she starts to move through the forest in the opposite direction of the Cave. She probably had the opportunity to ask a hushed question or two to the wolf girl.

Maven smiled meekly as Rana figured out the reason she wanted her as a familiar rather quickly, and was glad that she would be able to help her out. It really was the only obstacle she faced in school as her grades were fine when it came to the written part. Her application grades weren't horrible but could be improved quite a bit. "Thanks don't think I could make it another year micromanaging my magic." Maven joked as she followed behind her. She stopped as she began to sniff the air clearly catching the scent of something. She only nodded her head dropping back a bit she she followed behind her doing her best to stay out of her way. Though her eyes never gazed off her as her mind wandered a bit about still giving some though to her part of the contract.

Rana smiles at her when she talked about Micromanaging, softly padding through the forest, sniffing at the air and moving deeper into the forest. The forest was quiet, with small amounts of chirping and the soft sound of the tree branches swaying softly against the wind. It was rather serene as the mingling of white, green, and brown with no sound was nice, but the black and blue haired wolf girl she was following kept sniffing around before leading Maven this way and that. Then, there was a clearing, and at one side was a cave. Rana glares at it, sniffs the air, then grins. "Excellent. Seems it's in there, but...To make sure..." she pauses, sitting down in the snow and putting her hands together softly and a soft blue green glow fills the area around them. It was Detection magic, and there was a single blip inside the cave popping up in Rana's mind. "Yep. Stay here, the least I can do is show you what a Fenrir can do." she teases with a wink, lightly padding away towards the cave.

Maven would watch as the Fenrir walks towards the front of the cave. Putting her hand to the mouth, she pulls a bit of stone out of the wall using magic and shatters it before flinging the many shards down the cave entrance before walking a few paces back. There was a loud Roar and Maven would watch as a bear lumbers out of the cave, roaring angrily. Rana doesn't seem phased as she puts one hand face down near her and stone rises from the ground before shattering into a beautiful, large, glass-like sword, which held a soft glow as it helps channel her magic. With a single roar, the large brown bear charges, its brown fur rustling snow off of it and it charges the wolf girl.

Without hesitation, taking the Great Sword in hand, Rana dodges to the side, not striking as she conjures another shard of glass and flings it into the Bear's leg. It roared lightly in pain and swipes at Rana, who puts the great sword, tip first, into the ground to block the swipe before flinging another shard with her other hand, the shard slicing the bear's face a bit, making it flinch back, giving her an opening to slash upwards, slicing the bear's along the chest. It stumbles back for a moment, the Fenrir's sword glowing more and more before she delivers a second attack, this time using both hands to stab the sword into its neck. The bear roars as it stumbles away, one of its paws barely able to make small swipes at the 'Fenrir', managing to scratch her skin a bit. Rana's sword still stuck in its neck as the blue glow finally intensifies and a soft burst of light blasts out and the bear falls down, the sword soon pulling away. No blood came from the wounds, besides the one on its face, looking like they were almost...cauterized on the way out.

Rana then steps away and stretches, "Ahhh...! It felt good to use my sword again~" she says with a grin as she swings it a few times. "Feels like it's grown cobwebs, but damn if it doesn't feel as good as it did back then." she stops before stabbing it into the ground. "You can come out now, Maven." she says as she leans on the great sword.

Maven kept behind Rana especially once she saw the cave on the other end of the clearing guessing that the two of them had found her prey. As she watched the wolf girl sit down on the ground it taking her few seconds to realize what she was casting. To say Maven was excited would be a bit of an understatement as she was curious to see what Rana could do now that she was back to her old self.

The young mage slowly crept forward as she watched Rana approach the cave and begin the fight by luring it out. Though her eyes were glued on the action she kept herself ready to fight and shield herself should anything go wrong. The roar startled Maven a bit though mostly her fighting was limited and her experience lacking as she never had the proper reserve to participate in a duel at the academy. Her eyes widen in excitement as the sword was formed only making her spell and combat much more impressive.

With the two creatures fighting in the open Maven retreated back a little hiding behind a near by tree for cover. Though her deep blue eyes and blonde hair could be seen peaking around the corner not wanting to miss anything. The fight between the Fenrir and the bear only cemented the idea further in her head that she wanted Rana to be her familiar for as long as possible. The two complimented each other as she was smart and knew most theories and was a quick learner. And Rana was strong and would give Maven the ability to put what she knows to practice.

Once given the given the all clear she stepped out from the behind the tree and rushed over to Rana and the fallen bear. "That was okay I guess." Maven joked after a being quiet for a moment or two. It was clear from her wide smile and gaze that she was impressed especially with her sword which she was mostly looking at. " That is a neat trick." She added gently running her hand over the blade careful not to cut herself. She never considered weapons as she hoped magic would be enough and would only need an occasional staff. "So are we cooking lunch here or do you need a hand dragging that back up to the cave."

Rana giggles a bit as Maven joked, standing up with her sword, letting Maven feel its smooth, almost glazed glass surface. "It's not a trick. There's a type of mage that uses magic weaponry like this. They tend to be joked about having less...Finesse, but while these weapons are heavy to anyone who can't handle them, if you make a weapon out of your own Mana, it's half as light." she says, lifting it with one arm and changing so she was holding the blade and offered the handle to Maven. "As for the bear, if you'd like, I can carve it up in its cave while you wait outside. However, I'd rather not drag an entire bear back to that cave." she says with a chuckle. "I'm strong, but not that strong. Unless you have a spell to make me able to lift like 300 pounds." she teases.

If she held the blade, she'd find the handle was, while not quite fit for her hands, was smooth to look at, but had a strange firm 'grip' to it. "The secret to these kinds of weapons are that they need to be fed Mana. If I were to let go of it, it'll just shatter into Mana." she says with a grin. "It's also why I can wield it without breaking my arms due to its weight."

Maven continued to trace the length of the blade clearly interested as she listened to Rana explain more about it. It was the first time she had seen anything like this as the academy only offered training in traditional spell casting, certainly nothing like this. The handle felt odd in her own hands mostly guessing since it was sized more for her companion and even the small part she was holding felt heavy . " I don;t know it seems to take more finesse to use that then traditionally casting spells." Maven said with a smile trying to make up for calling it a trick.

"I might be able to do something, but it won't last long enough to get that far." Maven said taking her hand of the sword and clasp them together as a faint green glow shined out from them. She then placed both hands on Rana and the glow transferred to her body. "a simple invigoration spell. Should last long enough to speed up cleaning your kill." Maven said with a smile as she pulled out her fish and prepped it while Rana worked on hers.

Rana just nods, "It...Works similar to Transmutation type magic. You're essentially using Magic to turn your Mana into a weapon, but those tend to be spectral and airy looking. Some use actual transmutation with Mana and end up with these." she says, tapping her greatsword. "They don't always look like Glass, either. I could make it look like it's made of metal quite easily, even as I form it out of the ground so it looks like I'm literally pulling it from nowhere. Really freaks out opponents who never expect a Mage to know physical combat on top of spells." she says with a wide grin before nodding at her in thanks. "I'll make good use of it then." she says, taking the sword in both hands and tracing her finger to the tip and 'pushes' it, her eyes closed as she focused, until its blade was small and did similar with the handle until it was now a fierce Dagger. She grins and spins it in her hand before turning to the bear. It was almost a gory mess as she was carving the bear fast, practiced knife strikes and cutting of skin. Lots of the organs were tossed aside- the good stuff was the actual muscles, which she took a lot of care to take as big of chunks as she could, using her shawl as a 'tray' for them. She even carved off most of the skin of the bear and tossed that next to her shawl to use later.

It took at least an hour for her to take her dexterous dagger to the bear's innards, but by the end, she had a good pile of meat on her shawl, which she transferred onto bloody skin now, and left the rest of the organs that were less edible or delicious for the wild creatures.

Maven just listened as she explained more about her blade watching as she condensed it down to the size of a dagger. This whole trip was turning out better as she was getting a small side lesson on top of getting to her goal of bounding with a familiar. "Plus I think most non mages assume we're no good at close combat." Maven chimed in digging a small knife out of her satchel. It wasn't one you would use in a fight more of utility knife as she took her time cutting the fish up leaving most of the ones and skin on the forest floor. She gently skewered the filet with a stick and used her own magic to cook it as a cone of fire shot out her her palm. She downed her small meal rather quickly as she was more hungry then she originally thought.

.The rest of her time she spent searching for any useful herbs or plants she could use either as a snack or to mix in a potion once the got back to the academy. "Anything else you want to get done before we head? " Maven asked noticing that Rana had finished gutting and salvaging her own kill.

Rana just nods a bit, "Mhm. You looking for herbs? If so, I'd appreciate it if you find some cooking ones as well. I know this place has a bit of rosemary and stuff around. It's been a while since I last cooked an actual meal that wasn't meat seared with fire magic." as she carves a bit more. She was moving onto organizing the parts, discarding some for the wildlife to eat, leaving a bloody skeleton of a bear on the ground with small amounts of other viscera on it. She frowns a bit before figuring that would be a foul way to come out of the cave post food to see. She instead puts the leftovers towards the side of the cave where a lip of the cave blocked it from sight. She comes back, still bloodied from the fight, but more from carving the bear up.

She, along the way, grabbed a bunch of wood, regardless of sogginess, and carried them back, where she wraps up the meat in the bear's skin and wipes her shawl in the snow to clean it off.

"Sure." Maven chimed in stuffing the potion ingredients into a small pouch before she continued her search this time focusing on herbs and other spices she could find. She could easily spot rosemary in a few spots and gathered a couple sprigs of it and gathered it in her hand. Cooking wasn't exactly her strong suite and it showed as she pent a few minutes picking up various plants and cutting them with her knife. the ones she recognized she kept and the others she dropped. In the end she mostly had rosemary along with mint leaves.

"Didn't find much sorry, haven't had to do much cooking. Need me to carry anything back?" Maven asked showing her the small collection before she placed it in her own satchel. She stood by Rana letting her finish up what she needed as she was all done.

Rana just nods in thanks. "That's fine. Even just a bit of seasoning will help. I got this though." she says with a chuckle as she flings the bag of meat over her shoulder, her shawl on the other, and a bundle of wet wood under her other. As they head inside, they find the cave was well...about as decorated as you'd expect. There was only a bedding of dry leaves on the ground in this place, to which Rana nods as she starts getting the supplies ready, putting the bag down. "If you'd like to ask me a bit more about anything, feel free. It'll be a little while before the food's done." she says with a wide smile as she starts radiating massive amounts of heat, her body softly glowing as steam rises off of the wood as she's flash-drying them.

Maven followed Rana in quickly glancing around the surroundings of the new cave that sheltered them from the wind outside. This one being rather dull but it was a bit much to expect two caves filled with odd magical secrets. She stood near the wolf girl mostly for warmth as it was quite toasty as the wood was being dried. Maven did what she could to help as she brushed a small area clean and stacked the dried pieces up to form what would be their cooking fire. "I could kill a whole day asking you stuff. Like how old are you? Where did you learn magic and how to fight with a sword?" Maven asked giving her a smile holding back a little as she didn't want to dump a ton of questions on her at once. And those where the ones she was the most curious about. "Ooo and where did you come from or did you always live up here?" She added remembering another she was dying to now.

Rana nods a bit at the questions, leaning back slightly as she starts to put leaves in the center of the wood to use as tinder. "Hm...I don't know anymore how old I am. I don't remember how long I was under that Binding, but...Hum...Before that my age was...I believe around very late teens and early twenties." she answers pretty quickly, but seems puzzled by something.

Her ears picks up on the second set of questions and she grins proudly. "Easy one. Taillteann. Even whatever filthy magic the person who did those binds to me used wouldn't make me forget that. Of course, given your reaction to the sword...Well, it's a special magic for those more physically inclined as a Mage and lets us wield out Magic Prowess more fluidly in the heat of battle. I believe I learned the concept from some books and a Professor taught me the specifics and trained me a bit. Knights used to visit as well due to the magical creatures around the school and I learned a lot from them- and they tended to be surprised when I asked for tips. Incorporating magic with my other hand was something I learned over time." she replies as she starts creating more glass items- a small, nearly transparent grill with a handle which she places over the pit before lighting it. She kept a single part of her body, whether it be a hand or a foot holding the handle to feed the Glass Construct magic while she starts to put meat over the fire.

At the final question she stops and looks a bit saddened. "...Hard to say. Just like my Age, my memories are incredibly foggy right now about what happened the last...However long. I didn't always use to live here, I came here from my own volition is all I can remember. I'm sorry I can't be more specific- Being Feebleminded for so long is going to have some long lasting effects." she says with a sad smile but she shakes her head, "Anyway, mind if I reflect a few of those questions back to you? I'd like to know a bit more about who I'm going to be Contracted with. How Old are you? What Magics do you know? And where did you come from? I already know you learned at least somewhat from Taillteann. I recognized the Symbol, even in my Feeblemindedness." she asks with a more eager smile.

Maven just listened as Rana answered her questions to the best of her ability which the young mage was expecting some may not be answered fully. She felt bad that most of her life was wasted in that horrible bind and even now that she was free she wouldn't be rid of it's effects on her. "It must have been a while knights don't visit too often anymore and the Academy has a decent barrier on it now. Still that's awesome that you taught yourself most of it." Maven added bunching up some of the leaves as she took a seat on the floor.

"Of course you can ask me anything you want too." Maven said with a smile looking up at her thinking her own questions and which one she wanted to answer first. "I come from a small village about three days ride north from the Academy. It's nestled by a lake and has a small hill area behind it as a natural defense. I'm the only child of my parents, my father a mage like myself though more powerful. And my mother is a skilled botanist but lacks any magical skill." Maven explained giving her more details into her home life.

"As for me I'm seventeen a second year at the Taillteann Academy. As for my specialization good with alchemy as my mother trained me before I came here. Magic wise better at combat and elemental spells but do know a variety of other schools. I'm a fast learner when it comes to learning new spells and can understand theories a level above me. It's just my reserve that keeps me in the lower half of my class. I know how most spells work but doing them drains me too fast." Maven finished still softly smiling up at her. "oh and I'm not very good at physical fighting but maybe you could change that would love to learn even the basics of sword fighting."

Rana raises an eyebrow. "...So, you got the Skill from your father, but the Mana Capacity of your mother...That's rough, but something that can be changed. There are potions to do increase your 'Pool', but there are less...expensive ways. The issue is that Potions are faster and the other methods is a lot like exercising a muscle. The body creates Mana naturally, but stops once it reaches a certain point. If you were to get Mana from other places at a steady rate akin to having it continue to Regen, it'll 'stretch' it out. It's Delicate though in your cases- You don't want to Overflow too much." she answers but shakes her head,

"As for basics of Sword Fighting...Sure, I suppose it wouldn't hurt at all. However, for Elemental and Destruction type magic like that...It is a matter of having a steady Mana Pool..." she thinks a moment as she brazenly reaches her hand over the fire and flips the meat by hand. As it comes back, there's a light glow around it as she used magic to protect herself. The scent and sound of meat fills the room as the herbs were cooked up beside the bear meat, filling the cave with a delicious smell. The food must be getting close to done.

"I've used potions before the Academy gave me the materials to brew them and was the only way I managed to pass my finals last year. Without them I would have been a first year again. That's why I wanted to find a special Familiar to help me grow my own pool so I can apply the skill and knowledge I know." Maven answered scooting a bit closer to Rana mostly for the warmth of the fire but to be near to her. "Maybe then Some of the others will stop picking on me." She added as her lack of a mana pool had caused a few moments of being picked on by a few of her fellow mages.

"Thanks it'll help till I can stretch out my own pool and don't think any of the other students know so I'll be a first in my year.Though don't think I'll have the strength to weld a great sword." Maven said excited to learn something completely new for the first time in a while. As she sat there there waiting for Rana to finish cooking she kept think over what she was giving for the contract and just hoped she would accept it as it was really all she had. But all all she really wanted to give to her. "That'st starting to smell good."

Rana nods in understanding. "Mhm...I remember that while I had a huge mana pool, it took a lot more work to learn the more advanced spells..." she pauses for a moment before figuring, "If you'd rather stretch out your Mana Pool, while I can share my mana actively to essentially supercharge your recharge rate, it just works like giving you incredibly fast recharge and the ability to dip into my Mana like a battery." she explains slightly, just smiling at the light statement of being picked on. "Oh, trust me, you won't be picked on if I can help it. If nothing else, I love a bit of putting people in their place." she says with a soft chuckle.

"Hm...You wouldn't have the strength to wield a normal great sword. Elemental Construct weapons are special- Feed it a trickle, just enough to upkeep it? It's as weighty as a normal weapon. However, feed it a veritable flood...? It'll be an extension of your arm and with as much weight as a feather. However, knowing how to wield such weapons is complicated." she explains calmly, nodding softly in agreement about the smell. Licking her lips she speeds up, her hands practically coated in magic as she starts shifting the meat around to be less on the fire. With a crack of her neck, she creates 'legs' for the cooking platform before filling out the grill, seamlessly creating a small tray of sizzled and grilled meats. "Ahhh~ And here's a good opportunity to teach you what I was just talking about hands on." she grins, a glass-like knife appearing in her hand alongside a fork. She hands them to Maven. "Feed these a gentle stream of magic." she states simply as she creates some of her own.

I'd like to try and stretch it out a little so I'm not always relying on yours though both will help my problem. And we make a good pair then learning spells has always come natural to me and if it wasn't for my own reserve would be top of my class." Maven said smiling as this trip would significantly improve her school life and she would be able to continue to get to know Rana better. "I'm sure that will stop just from your looks alone. I think most of my classmates were looking to bond with pixies." Maven said giggling back a bit herself.

She couldn't argue her about her strength to weld a normal weapon. Maven was a mage and her physical skill showed as she was rather soft, with no muscle on her body. It was an area she often neglect as her mind was her biggest strength and had yet to even enter a physical fight with anyone. She listened closely as she explained more the young mage soaking up what information she could. She wasn't expecting a demonstration so soon but it help as she took the two glass constructs into her hand. She could feel a small pull on her mana pool as she held them. At first they seemed to have some weight but as she gave more into them she could feel them getting lighter in her hands. She twirled the knife between her fingers a bit clumsily mostly as she wasn't used to them not having a weight. She played around with the amount of mana she fed them trying to find the sweet spot where it was getting just enough but not draining too much from her. " I'm guessing the bigger the construct the more you have to feed it right?"

Rana smiles but shakes her head. "Nope. The bigger the construct the more mana it takes to create it, but feeding it is a set amount for everything. However, if I were to push more mana into it..." she proceeds and the knife in her own hand shimmers brightly. "It improves its efficiency." she says with a wide grin as she tilts it down and the meat practically parts for the blade as if it was on fire and cutting through butter. "But feeding it that much is hard to keep up, even for me. It's more the kind of thing you do and toggle on and off. So when I'm not cutting, I slow it to a trickle. When I am, I feed it a lot more. Sounds simple, but doing it mid battle isn't easy." she says, moving the knife around to demonstrate, showing the knife's glow dissipating as she puts a piece of meat into her mouth, then it glows once again and it happens again, the meat being parted smooth along the edge. Though, with how large her hands were, it was almost surprising how she was able to dexterously manipulate the fork and knife. Though...By the light flickers of irritation on her face, they weren't helping. After she eats the second piece, she looks towards Maven, soon saying, "Trust me, even without me giving you access to my mana pool, you coming in with a Fenrir at your side is going to cause a splash to say the least." she says offhandedly, giving Maven a cheeky grin.

"That makes sense," Maven replied nodding her head as she listened to Rana explain further about how her weapon worked in more detail. She practiced hat she said on her one smaller piece cutting it up once with no extra mana. the rest of her cuts she tried to time her feed into it to end hen she was done which was easier said then done. She couldn't imagine doing it under pressure without having trained a fair amount before hand. Once her portion was done she slowly ate the pieces of bear taking her time to enjoy the taste and Rana's cooking. "Not bad has an odd taste though."

"I'm counting on it, and I doubt there will be any others like you at the school especially among the new familiars. Or that any of the professors will be expecting it. A third year told me they watch where the more powerful creatures live to make sure the young mage doesn't get hurt or worse. Which has probably been increased since last year a few students were hurt and even killed." Maven said her own smile fading slightly as she could remember the day after when they announced what had happened

Rana chuckles a bit. "Hm...Yeah, but it's far better than that Flash-Broiled rabbit I had earlier. I love dry poultry, but dry meat is just..." she makes an exaggerated sigh. Her hands continue to, in their large forms, make it slightly difficult to use a knife with any finesse. "Hm...Just gotta hope there's no proper dinners in the near future for now." she says with a nervous chuckle as she forgoes the knife entirely, letting it dissipate into aether. Her hand picks up what was left of her meat and instead decides to take bites out of it that way like it was a big candy bar. She looks at Maven with interest and finally speaks, "Hm...? Keeping an eye on us, huh...?" she leans back and closes her eyes for a moment and there was a strange tingle coming from her. "...Nope. No teacher in the nearby area...Though they'd no doubt be using some sort of magic if they were..." she pauses then shrugs. "Eh...Whatever. With what was in that cave...I'm not sure they even know I exist for the most part." she says with a chuckle.

Though it did bring up a good question- There was a lot of Taillteann paraphernalia and research materials in that cave, so someone from the school knew about Rana. However, given she was still there and not used as an 'example' like you'd see in new magic presentations, why would they leave her there?

Maven giggled a bit watching her struggle with the smaller utensils before she finally gave up and just used her hands to eat it. "Ummmm, there are quite a few actually. And you'll probably have to have the school tailor make something fancy for you to wear." Maven said smiling a bit at the thought of her trying to use the smaller utensils and in the right order. "But don't worry I won't drag you to the unnecessary ones. I hate them too, just pointless small talk and listening to the higher ups brag about what they've done. And how we should be honored to be taught by them." Maven added quickly not wanting to stress her out over it.

"Most likely, I doubt they would be out in the open. I think they are there to step in if needed be and I'm sure they would have by now." Maven said tilting her head up to think. "Either that or someone does know and has just decided to keep quiet about it. I mean this area doesn't get much use beyond finding a familiar and the occasional class trip. Not to mention the barrier around it keeps those not bonded with a mage in." Maven said shaking the though from her head as she preferred to think her school was unaware of the horrors that happened to Rana.
