Beginner Friendly RPG?

Hi there.

Some friends of mine recently got me into D&D and I find it really fun, but we have not gotten very far and don't play often enough for me to feel super confident in my understanding of everything. I'm interested in getting involved in either D&D or something similar, but I would need to play something where the DM and other players will be beginner friendly.

Man that sucks. Personally, I wouldn't want this to start without you considering this is your request. If it's character-wise, I'm sure the others here can help you figure it out.

I'm just in transition with my medication right now, so my brain is all weird. I am able to hyperfocus on certain things and other things, my brain is mush. I have character ideas in mind though.

We can wait. Not to sound like an ass but if people have a problem with it they can note that rarely does one have difficulty finding players for ttrpgs on here and I already have one person waitlisted. Furthermore, I absolutely refuse to start a game which is missing the person who requested it. You take the time you need to get your stuff right and I will be here when you are good.

Ehh, not so much. Got a bit of a brain block. And from what I understand, the last thing needed was a rogue and that is had, yes?

Which means you can play whatever you want!

A barbarian
A bard
A cleric of whatever deity you can imagine.
A druid
A fighter
A monk
A paladin with extra PAL. :p
A ranger
A rogue
A sorcerer/sorceress
A warlock to whatever patron you can imagine
A wizard

Easiest thing will probably be to use my existing dude while my brain is a mess. I uploaded it here in the meantime:

Okay, so I had a few things I learned since posting that.

It occurred to me that you guys are using rolled-for stats as opposed to the basic 16, 15, 14, 12, 10, 8. So, I rolled for mine with my own dice and for once in my life, rolled pretty darn good. I was then informed that the rolls were done in the chat. I can do them again in there if it's required (and I do understand why there'd be reluctance, so I won't get upset if it is), but I'm a bit reluctant to give up the stats I rolled because I normally always roll like dogshit. So, I wanted to ask if it was alright to use the ones I rolled for with my dice.

Like I said, I understand if not. For reference:
1, 6, 3, 3, 4, 1
1, 6, 6, 4, 6, -
1, 2, 2, 6, 6, 2
3, 4, 6, 4, 1, 5
5, 4, 3, 1, 5, 2
1, 6, 5, 6, 6, -

We do not have a rouge but I am keeping Chris in mind in case we need another player, regardless you should play whatever you want. The reason I am keeping the party smaller than some on here is the more people you have the more dangerous the challenges that need to be faced for inexperienced players that can become a real problem quickly because they do not really know how best to use the rules to gain an advantage.

As far as your ability scores I am going to ask you to reroll them. It is not that I do not trust you but that you simply have too many dice there. I need you to try and do 4d6 and drop the lowest 1 it seems you did 6d6 and dropped 3. Please use the dice room the easiest code is #4D6H3 (# is included in the code)

Oh. I didn't know we were doing it that way. I did it the way it was in my player's manual.

Did it just now and it's painful. ;-; All of my stats went down except one from even the standard 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. I legitimately got 4 as one of my stats.

Ability scores are always what you make them, I am going to show you how I would build this character.

The standard array is 15,14,13,12,10,8 So really you raised your top scores and don't get discouraged by the lower bottom ones no character is good at everything and that 4 is going exactly where you would think on a barbarian.

For a barbarian, particularly with your background this is fairly thematic now start your base like this and remember you are human

Str 16-17
Dex 12-13
Con 16-17
Int 9-10
Wis 10-11
Cha 4-5

What you have here is an extremely strong and tough human who is fairly quick on his feet. He has average mental capacities but does not like social situations. This tends to lend itself to him being known to be absolutely brutal in an arena match because the concept of going easy on people simply flies right over his head.

Ehhh, Baldur is fairly charismatic though. It's pretty integral to the character, so I'd have to make a new character regardless. I was talking to Illven though and I think it may be better if I work on making a cleric being that we don't have one. I'm reading about them now. Gonna take me a bit to learn about them though and come up with ideas for a character I like. Might dump the 4 stat into strength in that case.

You will find every class has stats which they really do not need for example Tenshi has a game where we used the purchasing system to get our stats

This is my witch in that game. If you notice he has 2 scores that are both 7 those were intentionally left at the lowest possible purchase point 3 of the scores are exactly the same (14) but 2 of them are altered by racial modifiers (Dex and Con) of course the final stat is the witch's workhorse so that was an 18 later modified by racial and level up.

The point is that simply because your character does not have the highest scores in places where you would like him to be higher does not mean that the character it'self is going to be bad in fact your rolls work well for the concept. Furthermore, abilities can be altered and improved in gameplay (though that is somewhat difficult)

Don't dump into str dump into dex and use heavier armor for your cleric.

That's fair. I gotta figure out what to put that 4 into for a cleric though. I was guessing strength, but the manual is saying that strength is good for a cleric, so I don't know what the hell. Maybe charisma? I dunno if a cleric needs charisma.

Str is generally speaking a bad stat to dump too low the reason being is it affects how much weight you can carry as well as weapon damage and Clerics do tend to be front liners.

A cleric like this would probably be

Str 9-10
Dex4-5
Con 12-13
Int 10-11
Wis 16-17
Cha 16-17

Example Backstory:
This character was raised in the church after his village was ransacked by a necromancer. Some form of unknown undead was vanquished while feeding on them while the child survived he was permanently injured and has some trouble moving about as quickly as others. He used this attack as a focal point during his studies to ensure this never happened to another he now travels the world banishing evil where he finds it.
